and how my focus changed

I don't think I really answered that well but I essentially flat out explained what I wrote

Similarly to MIT, Harvard cannot guarantee an interview and if you do not get an interview your application isn't going to be adversely affected. It is probably just where you live there isn't an interview or there are more students than the amount of interviewers can handle

I do believe that the interview data comes from the supreme court cases regarding race/other factors in their decisions (aff action). The data indicates that unhooked (poor; minority; etc.) applicants weren't offered an interview despite being in a location with plethora of Harvard interviewers. Of those applicants, only 2% were deferred or accepted. Whereas over 21% of applicants who did not receive an interview because of availability of interviewer were admitted/deferred.

If a harvard interviewer lived, say, 30 minutes from you. You'd 100% get an interview no matter how many applicants, because it is easier for them to get to you and do it.

And you are probably on some list for hopefully an interviewr if they have enough time, but you mayn ot get one

coke scholar semifinalist is what you can put at the time of admissions and i dont think it impacts the decision that much because 90k plus apply and they pick 2k semi-finalist within a week. clearly they arent reading 90k apps but rather they just use an algorithm with service hours

so if u wanna get coke semi fill out all the activities and put 400+ service hours

its still good to have obv because once u get semi they actually read ur app and u can get a big scholarship

but im sure AOs know about the algorithm

both, it was someone who used to live an hour away from me but now lives in New York and its zoom

It means interviews are done by alumni volunteers. If there is a volunteer available in your area then you’ll get one unless there’s so many applicants in your area that they don’t get to you in a timely manner. If you live in the middle of nowhere, which is @rancid mural , like I explained early to him you’ll likely not get one until later when the alumni volunteers have done their normal assigned ones.
