Well, it looks like decision day was quite the bloodbath
goodbye gtown thread it was nice while it lasted
To those of you who received unfavorable news, I want to remind you that this decision will seem inconsequential a year from now and I am absolutely positive that you will thrive elsewhere. To those of you who were accepted, congratulations, this is a huge accomplishment. I am so proud of you all. If any of you have any questions about Georgetown, do not hesitate to ask. Hoya Saxa and hang in there fellas
You’re a good kid, God has better plans for you
Thank you my friend
should i dm you questions
georgetown's got to have the most underwhelming acceptance letter of all time do they
i couldn't even figure out if i'd got in based on the shortness of the letter and the font
Sure!
Yeah I remember that I actually stopped reading my letter last year when I saw it said “thank you for applying”. Then I looked again and saw I got in
lol i feel you. honestly feel exhilerated to have been offered a place, they made life really difficult for me with EA with my interview being rescheduled like 3 times and having to do it during a natural disaster in my city and stuff
really glad it came off in the end
got it
REJECTED RAHHH

When do accepted students get their finaid packages?
ea students haven't gotten it back yet lol

Its dogshit
Legit just a singular sticker
And a holiday card that only ea admits mightve gotten since it was december
They also send the acceptance letter physically

😭
that would be pretty heart wrenching for me ngl
it will be but I have no choice
I’m actually so sad
like I don’t even think I was this sad over my ed
I think it’s bc now it’s settling in after today there are no more decisions
yea that makes sense. you're gonna get through this 💪
Yess tyy good luck!!
thank you :)
Tbh, Georgetown was like the only excuse to go live in D.C.
Well I have the gwu scholarship but it’s still more expensive than uva (instate)
I know I’m still coping because the georgetown dream, but it’s probably a blessing in disguise
Isn't that basically a bunch of elite schools ever though
Like for example, darmouth median family income being 200.4k
Did you guys get the missing finaid email?
I check and it said it was missing Fafsa and K-1
Fr that's my fear 😭😭 I want to network w important ppl but at what cost 😔☝️
isn't networking with rich people a good thing
Yeah but some schools/environments with a lot of rich kids breeds a pretty out-of-touch group
And it's always good to have economic diversity along with everything else 🫡
True true
Honestly the complete opposite. I’ve gotten to know some people that were super down to earth and chill and then I learned later that they were apparently super wealthy
A lot of people avoid talking about their family background and are not pretentious
what's the soonest anyone on the wl would hear back
probably early may
guys the finaid office just told me i dont qualify for aid
should i appeal and how would i do that??
what’s your family income?
and yeah they are greedy with aid, only ~37% of students get it so an appeal might be hard
200k, family of 6
and they didn’t give you anything? does your family have assets that are worth a lot of money or savings that they reported?
never mind, i just saw that you’re international. from their website: “Admitted students who have requested financial aid and are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents will be considered for a very limited number of need-based scholarships.”
nothing :( and I'm actually a US citizen, i just live abroad :(
if you’re a us citizen then you should definitely appeal! unless your family reported assets that would make them deem you ineligible for aid. unfortunately idk much about that process, but i think this is a good place to start: https://finaid.georgetown.edu/undergrad/aid-for-undergrads/changes-and-special_circ/
You may be eligible for additional financial aid if there has been a change in your financial circumstances that was not reported on your initial aid application. Such changes may affect the calculation of your expected contribution towards college costs. Typical examples of changes include significant reductions in reported income, unreimbursed...
also get in contact with your designated financial aid advisor (based on the first letter of your last name) and communicate directly with them. they’re actually very helpful and usually respond quickly in my (limited) experience
thank you so much!! where can I find my designated financial aid advisor?
you can also set up a virtual meeting, which may be helpful to explain your situation
also consider completing the net price calculator with the most accurate info possible so that you can get a better idea of what to expect from your appeal
Thank you sososo much
I'll try my best!
Wtf??? I was hoping Gtown might be able to match my Dartmouth or Williams aid 😭😭
Has anyone gotten a finaid offer from them yet(?)
they MIGHT give you a similar package but williams is known for being generous and dartmouth just got a huge donation that means families with an income below $125k have to pay like $5k at most. georgetown isn’t known for aid at all 😭
Omg that's so devastating 😭 but im def going to appeal for dartmouth bc I think I should be getting way more money based off that information
an appeal never hurts, but also remember they take into account things like whether you have siblings in college or whether your family has “typical” assets for its income range.
Yeah but I'm a twin and sometimes colleges forget to factor that into finaid, so it's always good to send a little reminder 😭😭🫡
Which of the 3 is ur favorite
I really don't know 😭 actually my top choices are WashU or Swarthmore rn bc I've visted them before. But Williams is flying me out and I'm trying to go to Gtown admitted students day so we'll see
I haven’t still and I was admitted ea :/
Okay atp they need to get their act together 💀
I was admitted ea and got mine yesterday
My net price calculator said 32k
They want me to pay 86k a year

Wait so u got no aid?
Also did they get ur fafsa? Cuz I’m pretty sure mine already processed but they haven’t gotten it yet?
Sorry it’s just that no one else has given me any response on this 🙏
They're joshing you with that number 💀💀
Has to be a sick joke 💀
Measly 6k
I dont know what to do atp
Ivyday then this
And now stanford 💀
you might not have all of your materials in. i was admitted ea but since i was missing stuff they didn’t give me an aid package until like 3 weeks ago.
I have everything but it says they r missing my fafsa
But my fafsa has been processed already
Did they use ur fafsa for it?
no they calculated mine without my fafsa. they just predicted my efc and used that in the aid package
but my fafsa is processed now too and their predicted efc was spot on, so i doubt my aid will change
actually i just checked, and they still haven’t received my fafsa. but that didn’t stop me from getting an aid package so maybe email them and ask what happened
Got ya, thanks!
Hey guys, would any of y'all be kind enough to put in some comments this school x vs y that I posted yesterday?
Would appreciate if any current students could respond to this as well. Thank you so much!
Does anyone know a Georgetown student that was accepted off of the waitlist?
Was not myself but would be happy to help in anyway possible
I was just gonna ask if you submitted a letter of continued interest lmao
Cuz idk what to do for that
hey is anyone who was accepted to the MSB be willing to share their essay for the schol related prompt
APPLICANTS TO THE MCDONOUGH SCHOOL OF BUSINESS: The McDonough School of Business is a national and global leader in providing graduates with essential ethical, analytical, financial and global perspectives. Please discuss your motivations for studying business at Georgetown.
a friend of mine is trying to transfer and he could use some advice
also he wants me to ask if you can minor across schools
I'm confused on what the ID/user is supposed to be to access Georgetown Financial Aid 😭😭
i’m pretty sure the ID is in your acceptance letter!
and then you have to make a Georgetown MyAccess account, which is actually kind of complicated
Yeah my access is tricky when getting started
Anyone tried appealing their financial aid? If we have to wait on the fafsa to send for them to reevaluate our aid and we gotta commit by May 1st how are we supposed to have the time to appeal our aid? I got in ea, I come from rural Mississippi (which I told them) and their finaid net price calculator told me that AT MOST I’d be expected to pay 15k…. Just got my finaid offer and I’m expected to pay 30k. My family doesn’t even own 30k… so pretty crushed rn. Anyone in the same situation?
Can i dm you?
Yes
dead chat
dead cat
Fr
dead hat
Yea i am
yeah i am but leaving early
anyone know what free stuff they give at GAAP weekend
haven't you committed to somwhere else?
Technically i have but my dad said i can decommit if i want and go here
ah that makes sense
hope you have a great time!
do any current students know if you can apply to bsbga early or do you have to wait until april of your freshmen year
kinda late, but if their finaid calc said you should pay at most 15k, email the finaid office, or if youre on campus talk w an advisor!!
not current but ive spoke to current and alum, afaik you have to wait until april of freshman year
Is it normal for the fin aid office to like not respond to your mails very quickly?
Had some questions and didn't receive replies despite sending a follow up one as well
been almost a week and a half since I sent the mails
not normal at all in my experience this year, they responded to me within 2 business days. you should try calling
also did you email your specific fin aid rep based on your last name? if not maybe that’s why it’s taking so long?
yes I did, which puzzles me even more
I live outside the US atm so that could be a bit complicated
did anyone also get the message about reconfirming their spot on the WL?
hello chat😭
Yes, I think everyone got it.
