#All UCs 🐻🐮🐴🐱🐶🔱🤠🐌 (2023-2024)
1 messages · Page 59 of 1
Oo thats where ur going? Congrats
ay thanks!
yeah i got into berkeley/la but wl neu and reject bu💀
that shit hurt man
but whatever i like CA more than MA anyway
CA is so slay
Did UCs offer admission to people who got waitlisted yet
yea the first wave is usuallly exactly 1 week after
so may 22nd????
congrats to them!!
no way
Wait the WL is already moving…?
they release WL before 5/15?
yeah and it’s legit too
i was with him when he got the email
he already declined his offer though since he’s going to berkeley
Wowow congrats
Man i dont think sd and berk wl moving that quick tho
ikr
Well Merced sent me stuff and considering my only other options are UTD or getting off of Rochester waitlist
I’ll probably go to either Merced or Riverside
I think I’ll try to transfer from there to Berkeley or UCLA
Or maybe somewhere else like WashU or smth
Do u guys think Davis transfer to another uc like uci, ucla, uc berk is worth the try
fr merced is the best uc
Bro hasn’t spent a day as a college student and already wants out 💀
That’s an awful way to approach college
no im just wondering cuz the major i applied for is so new im worried
Maybe experience it first
do u know anything abt how easy it is to switch to ee tho
So that was your Reddit account huh
Cannot believe ur picnic day post bruh
sorry if it was offensive
I wouldn’t say it was offensive, more shows you didn’t really do your research
But I’m reading the comments again
sorry
With this new info about you being hesitant on data sci
You should really go to the l&s info booth
I can’t guarantee they’ll help you
But worth a shot
alright alright
Btw you didn’t hear this from me
But if you don’t have Doxie derby tickets sometimes they’ll let people in later in the derby as ticketed people leave
It’s not unknown but I’m not supposed to say it
oh cool ty for the info. ya i might check it out. also i might revisit back in may i was wondering if then will they give tours for dorms?
Check the schedule, ik I did my admit tour in May but I was a transfer admit
I think they were still doing freshman then
But idk fs
alright ty and sorry abt that
Lol it’s fine
Maybe you’ll bump into me
I’m there from 5am-7pm
Orange staff shirt
oh ill be there till 3 pm and taking a flight back up at 5 or 6
you have a point
I think I’m mostly photographing ticketed events + the parade + doing an info booth during that time
But there will only be 3 orange shirts with cameras I believe
alr cool ya hope to see u there lol but i heard there is a lot of people
My director might change my schedule
Yes over 70,000 lmfao
Get into the orphan kitten line early if you want that
omg thats a lot
That line can be hours long
ah ic
well i think im arriving at 9 am sacramento so driivng down maybe an hour if traffic isnt too bad
There’s a chemistry show at 10am and orphan kitten start at 10:30. Idk how long chemistry show is but it’s quite popular so if it’s a half hour or longer you’ll get a short line at that time
It will be lmfao
Even Amtrak knows
Traffic is awful even without picnic day from sac to davis
Also parking
It’s free just hard to find
ooh damn i hope we dont spend an hour trying to park 😭 . also do u know who runs the davis class of 2028 acc cuz whoever is is hella devious
I do not
Is it official
it isnt says not affiliated
davis.2028 one
wait they got rid of the stories
It’s at the very least a year over year passed down account
Posts as old as 2020 tag the account
when u gotta pay to post ur acceptance on a committed 2028 insta page
for what school thats crazy
wait r all wl decisions released after may 15?
uci wailist apparently came out today and i think its official not phony like last time cuz emails were sent
usc 😭
ohh
I see
alr praying 🙏
thats crazy not only that 90k pricetag but paying to make a post is wild
Lmfao don’t
its not worth it
I see they’re shilled out
yea I won’t lol
no they had like this guy named derek or something that went to parties it was crazy and it was up on their 2028 class acc
Either way this account is probably passed between either hs seniors or college freshmen each year
The MoodStream app is founded by someone with no association with the UC system
So they probably gave them a dogshit commission
And they took it bc little money is better than no money to them even if it sacrifices dignity
ah ic damn
The most association they have is the app is funded by Berkeley Skydeck
But the creator that’s listed in the reviews is some dude who seems to have gone to Cornell?
Or IIT
Cannot find a UC person of their name
oh. i mean davis has two ig accounts. idk how but one of them followed me before i followed them
They tend to spam follow
But chances go up if you’ve liked related posts, imply you’re the same year, or live in the area
ah ic. i tend to not like anything on insta. gotta keep myself clean
Ik this bc one company that was making big money offered A2C $1/referral with no base commission
I cannot imagine what they were offering the ig ambassadors that were signing up via their google form
💀 💀 💀 wtaf were those posts
tbh man uc davis is a good school to begin with
very very solid
you can try if you want but you dont know if its for you till you experience it as chloe said
tbh my 2nd excited decision opening was prob davis lol
wait if uci released some of their waitlist did UCSD do that too or are they independent
No
If they did it’s over
This early for waitlist acceptance tho😭
cooked bro
We’re already fucked for unrelated reasons https://www.reddit.com/r/UCDavis/s/SvOtHBGxM4
steamed fish out here
We’re supposed to let them join even though they never signed up
Provided they’re not violent
But I don’t see this going well
NOOOO
COOKED
I flagged it to my director but there’s a chance dept already knew
Did it just in case
i gotta worry abt my prom situation rn
i aint japanese but ty
at least u can go bro
I’m scheduled to photograph opening ceremonies from 9:30-10
So I specifically might be cooked
But that also means their join time isn’t aligned with the actual parade
Unless they plan on going out before it
i was unfamiliar with your game
buddy ik u can go
felpix dont ever diss me
i dont fit in at all with the other people in them
You'll find a solution
the what
SAME WITH BERKELEY but there are two accounts and the one with more followers doesn't need payment????
awwwww
I wonder why
🤔🧐
DOes berkeley decision come out for transfers today?
I think about doing it but I always back out
looks like riverside messaged me
Nothing it means they gave you a financial aid offer when you're waitlisted 🔥
I got one from a school where I was rejected
😔
UCSB sent it to all on the waitlist idk why
lol I got it too
I’m putting it here too but I’m filming trivia from 11:45-12:30pm for the official picnic day account so if any of you are gonna be there then maybe I can put you in it
Idk where we’re gonna be tho lmfao
But I’m aiming for Hutchison field so I can watch the frisbee dogs at the same time
i forgot that the middle class scholarship existed 💀
"not great"?
i dont got enough to pay 9k
thats more than a 5th of my household income
then how u paying for berkeley?
berkeley wants only 3.5k
easier to cover
what's that
only for instate?
yo too good
ah
i dont even qualify for the middle class scholarship mannnnnnnnnn
baller
are we starting a new daily prayer LMAOOOO
Nah this is a one off
Saving my prayers for Berkeley
bruh it’s only for uc or csu students?
why😭
also how do I see my coa for ucsc
do I gotta commit first?
It can also be a community college but in all of them you have to become a teacher
what about private university
Nope
State wants to pay itself
wait what
Middle class scholarship is only for teaching degrees?
Should I pay money to get posted on a class of 2028 account so I can find roommate
for berkeley there was a paid one and a free one and both of them get decent traction
so search for a free one for your school
there's bound to be one
but if there isn't and the payment is like very small then yeah sure
i don't think it's worth it tho but yeah
and like if you pay for it you get added to a gc but I'm already in a gc so
My friend did one for Berkeley but it took him 2 weeks to get posted idk might be too long I’m just tryna find roommate ngl
oh yeah everyone says 2 weeks
im reaching out to people who've already posted instead of posting myself
and I've found a good number of people willing to room
so try that maybe?
Hmm maybe I should do that then but I’m not even set yet in between two schools 💀
lol fair
No group chats for my schools 😪
Yeah you have to be seeking your teaching credentials
do what i did
promise berkeley your fucking balls
^
gotta stick to your promise
jokes on you i already gave it to them
they have a slot you can put em in next to sproul hall
💀
i got one and i'm not going for a teaching degree
oh for cc nvm
Wow Davis is phenomenal. I got to talk one of the stats professors and got his contact info. And found out I can prob double major in EE as well
But the campus is so big so I gotta walk a lot. Still yet to have seen Carly
did anyone get moved from uc waitlist
yea I told you
I was at Hutchison field for a bit earlier
Now I’m eating lunch at our hq
I also went to the quad this morning for a while
Oh I think I visited or went passed it
would it be reasonable to go to UCM or UCR, try really hard for like a 3.7 GPA, and transfer to Berkeley
if u really want to go to berkeley go to cc
its way easier to transfer from a cc than another UC
with cc u have guaranteed transfer to UCSB if u get a 3.5
Idc which but ideally Berkeley
as long as u arent CS
Im International Affairs/Studies/Relations
different schools call it different things i think
what about if youre going direct from UCM or UCR to one of those 4
idk about merced and riverside specifically but they heavily favor CC transfers over UC transfers
Okay
Since its likely for me that Ill be going to merced
and ideally id like to transfer somewhere with more opportunities since i hope to go to grad school
i may just transfer outside of the UC system tho
What major are you
international affairs
or international relations/international studies
ive heard it called all three
depends on the major but even then it's unlikely
cc def better route
coming from someone at ucm transferring rn, cc is 100% the better route
save money, colleges prioritize cc transfer over 4 year institution transfer, cc's HELP you transfer and the universities will give you nothing.
Where are you transferring to now
damn wtf
Damm
Dam I’m so sorry
Is there any colleges left to come
shit bruh
what is the stat line
sb la uw and nyu
Ooh glgl ull get in dw
@long jay
Antony cupping his ears and nobody celebrating with rasmus after the pen had me pissed off
at least maguire had the class to shake hands w/ coventry
why would anyonne celebrate with rasmus
its shameless
you bottled a 3-0 lead against championship cov
i mean its up there w/ liverpool celebrating a 2-2 draw against west brom but those are our fans
the least you do as players is to applaud them or something
disgraceful performance absolutely but still
shi me personally i score that 5th penalty and i take off my shirt
0 shame
but im not a player whos lived in the limelight
that locker room must be something for sure
imagine what theyre thinking after walking back in after the game
you didnt lose but at what cost
job?
ten hag is getting sacked end of season 1000%
imagine he wins the FA cup
no way
big brain pep move to make sure we keep ten hag
city will pump you 4-0
the amount of times ive predicted a pumping that never happened is insane
i thought wed lose every game we played against liverpool
not go undefeated
same w/ city at home last year
perfomance wise you were cooked
the 1 goal you scored was a scrappy pen
conceding in under 20 seconds is insane
yeah that was rather awful
tho tbh id take an FA cup and 6th/5th this year
sack ten hag afterward
as of now we're doing a good job of replacing the backroom staff
recruiting dan ashworth, wilcox, and berrada
fa cup 0.001% chance 99.999% faith
if we start amad rw and garna lw we might have a small shot
if rashford plays just give city the cup
give my idol Marcus PRashfood 1000 meals given away and 0 goals or he retires
real
what team do you support
i didnt ask
shits rough for you too
but hey we both have our teams bottle
man city are just too good to the point where a mere 2 point gap feels insurmountable
yeah its frustratin at this point
merely 2 points but you know damn well theyre gonna win every game by 2-3 goals
^
if i were an arsenal fan id be depressed even tho im a united fan whos in a worse spot anyway
in the ucl you get knocked out to arguably the worst bayern side in more than a decade
they still have experiene
we havent been in the cl for 7 years this is a completely new squad
yeah i mean ofc its to be expected
but damn imagine if you had gotten past liverpool in the fa cup
that happens and you wouldve beaten us
then coventry
fa cup final
in the ucl what if youd been more clinical and held back bayern at the emirates
and in the league imagine if you had just beaten tottenham and not drawn
youd be 1st, ucl semi final, fa cup final
yeah you guys owned the fa cup alr
the prem though
you havent lifted one in my lifetime
last arsenal prem title was 2003-04 i was born 2006
samr
as a united fan tho
i dont know who id prefer out of liverpool, city, and arsenal
to win
i dont want liverpool to win cause i want klopps goodbye to be absolutely disasterous
and end the same way as ten hags first season: europa qf elim, efl cup w, 3rd
i dont want arsenal to lose cause them winning one before united winning another would give me depression
its a loss/loss/loss situation for united
yeah
if city win pep will do something even fergie was never able to do
i think that id just want city to have it honestly
dont get me wrong i dislike city but theyre not the same type of rival as arsenal or liverpool
w/ arsenal and liverpool it was so deep in hatred
pizza slices were thrown by united players
the rivalry was so deep
real hatred there
w/ city its just hey we're in the same city but they werent really amazing when we were also amazing
as we fell off they got good w/ 115 charges
city are just new money
exactly
so city winning prem but utd winning fa cup is best case for us
otherwise everything else that could go right did
besides our shit league position
Is anyone in here a current UCM student and know what the UCM discord is? my friend is looking
theres a few
Do you know rhe links?
all the links i found online were dead
yea dmed u
Ty ty
can i have it too
dmed
Have merit scholarships been released yet for ucsd?
I think so
Would UC Merced or UC Riverside be better for pre med and international affairs
Based purely on rankings UC Merced is 60 on USNWR while UCR is 76
But UCR is ranked higher for poli sci which is what the IA major falls under
UCR has a very good pre-med program from my understanding, though UCMerced is expanding its stuff very fast and from the presentations I saw, it looked good, though I'm not doing pre-med tbh.
I'm doing polisci also at UCMerced, I talked to some professors, I liked them and liked what was offered overall
is berk or sd better for premed? asking for a friend cuz he has literally no idea what to commit to (majoring in molec/cell bio)
Both are insanely rigorous and competitive so ask him to look into the courses and see what interests him + talk to current premed students at both unis
berk (i’m biased)
but my friend who’s doing premed is going to berk and planning to do stuff at UCSF after cause it’s right there
Berk isn't for everyone
Sd is a lot more chiller and Berk is very very competitive (toxic for some folk) so all depends on what environment he’d do better in
UCSD isn’t really competitive for premed (like it’s good but students aren’t competing the way they are at berk) according to my remed friends there
Like after? How is he getting to ucsf
UCSD arguably best Premed UC
3 hospitals on campus plenty of research opportunities
I’m planning on going to ucsf during my gap year but I can’t imagine the commute from UC Berkeley to ucsf
For some people yeah
I think it depends on your personality/where you’d do better
yes i'm gonna agree if i get off the waitlist fr
yeah Berkeley but like it's cutthroat up there ucsd is chiller
I like UCLA's vibe though i like the social aprt of it
Also if I get off the waitlist for UCLA i'd already have a roommate
But at UCSD idk anyone
Fuck Berkeley for rejecting me
Lol
Again depends on the person
true
I would not thrive in ucsd’s atmosphere
Berkeley has that UCSF program no?
Wdym
Nothing like early assurance
This bro
this would be really good
It’s a masters
You have to apply to do Berkeley masters and then ucsf md
yeah but still it's a good opportunity especially to get into ucsf md
Ruby where are you going now
Would it be easier to get into Berkeley masters if you went to Berkeley for bachelors
?
I think they take sixteen students
Prob ucla
W
oh shit 💀
Not this program no
Yeah fr we’ll see though I’m on wls
what r u between
Nothing rn
and they have yet to catch him and he targets freshman specifically
wtf
Ok let’s not lie 💀
No
nooooo
jk ucla is a great school
You will love
Everyone I know who goes/is going is in love with it
"finals don't end" though which is somethign I have heard a lot abt the quarter system
I'm a little worried abt that
Yeah
But like
Taking OChem/Chem 1 2 and 3 over 10 weeks is gonna be........
They’re more like unit tests tbh
They’re different from the semester chems
how so
They have like chem one a and chem one b
Separate quarters
At least at some ucs
oh really
i do know at ucsd they made ochem for bio majors a little easier
or something like that
also i hate how an A- is a 3.7
that's not very fun
Oh nice
my friends at Berk say yes for law school
dk about med
does this apply for engineer or cs majors
ucr
they accept like 30% of their premed students into their med school
Yeah thats a pretty good number
can you ask for more financial aid at ucla?
Yes
im in same predicament
gonna be real with you
SD pre-med probably better than Berkeley pre-med if you're specifically doing MCB
when i was there every time i heard about berkeley mcb pre-med from a current student, it was followed by a sigh
and not a good sigh
like a "damn that shit is fucking hell" sigh
any stories of happy berkeley mcb pre-meds are few and far between from what ive learned when i was on campus speaking to current undergrads
i will say that the main reason ive chosen berkeley over SD is because im in the rausser college of natural resources
very small, lots of advising, chill atmosphere, not competitive
you should tell him to look into pre-med at rausser cnr/molecular environmental biology (what im committed for)
if he wants to attempt to switch into that, then best of luck fr
u can ask but it won't work
public schools usually don't care about those kinds of requests
gonna add on
having a T5 med school like RIGHT THERE
is a very awesome plus
and ucsf + berkeley collaborate
so what hollow is sayin makes a lot of sense
Appreciate all the help brother
np
if he wants, you can put him in contact w/ me
👍
this is the correct answer. Ask current premed students there how grade deflation/inflation is, how they are getting clinical exp, and ease of getting letters of recc.
Across the Bay Bridge isn't exactly what I would call "right there". How are students getting to UCSF Medical Center? What are the options for clinical exp at Cal other than UCSF?
has anyone got accepted to UCI waitlist?
someone did
damn
several
i literally can't decide if i should commit to UCI or not. ubc deadline is may 1, but uci may 15 sooo uggg
The medical center is 32 minutes away by car
I drive longer than that to school on a daily basis so that’s why I said “right there”
But not all students have cars
So yeah you’re right
My initial statement was short-sighted
I will add that there are places around Berkeley (in a 30 minute radius by walking/bus) but not officially under the purview/control of Berkeley that have volunteering opportunities
Someone at my school did for bioengineering
If i get off waitlist and accept, can I decide not to go later? Idc if the deposit is non-refundable
do you mean
accept your waitlist school
and then reject it?
yea
cause u only have like 2 days to accept the offer
so I was wondering if I can accept and deposit first, and think about it and if I don't feel like going there after can I just withdraw my app?
why would you opt into a waitlist that you're not certain abt
for UCI
cause I wasn't sure where to go
Bc you want the option
And are these places private clinics? If there are hospitals, how large is it, and how many/how receptive are they to undergrad shadowing? How easily are current students getting clinical exp without resorting to measures like EMT certification? These are all questions that potential students should be asking current students.
thanks for the insight 🙏
My dad wants me to consider uc berkeley (if i get off the wl which he is manifesting everyday) over ucla and I was concerned about clinical opportunities as I have heard the berkeley clinics are extremely difficult to get into
that is a valid concern. For you, between UCLA and Cal, I would weigh GPA and clinical exp most highly, as both campuses will offer cutting edge research and both have a large student population (making it harder to get letters at either)
I would ask current students how hard it is to shadow at Reagan, given the large premed population.
thank you for the input!
i've talked to them and they said it's not too difficult to get clinical experience but not to try for it through premed clubs bc the clubs are notoriously hard to get into
Gatekeeping clubs sounds ridiculous to me, but it wouldn't be the worst behavior I've seen from premeds
Sounds like UCLA is probably the choice for you, then!
just saying ucsd has three hospitals on campus!
it's a lot easier to get clinical exposure there
just saying purdue has absolutely nothing 🔥
Agreed, I don’t know why the culture is like that. Are you a premed right now?
Likely but there’s some other factors involved so I’ll have to see :(
UCSD is like
Not my vibe
I would not be motivated there
W
i WILL find my people
i did like the campus on triton day tho it wa sactually really nice
and i keep seeing tiktoks from students abt why you should commit to ucsd
they are pretty convincing
That’s good!!
Visiting colleges is really helpful
I was also still partly eh until I visited ucla
yeah they should be asking current students such questions
thing is
ucla was nice i didn't explore too much i was mostly on north campus i saw powell and royce and drove around a lil
i'm not a current student, i'm prefrosh
I walked around a bit on Bruin day but I didn’t do a formal tour either
Yeah I was just hoping for east coast
I lowkey really liked usc too
real i didn't get into any of my common app schools other than LMU ASU and U of A 💀
I am finishing up med school, so I used to be premed I suppose
I got into safeties and targets but like one reach and 7 wls 💀
ikr common app was a bloodbath for us 😔
got waitlist at northeastern, colgate, and umiami. withdrew from all of them because i would never go
i only got into like 2
Dang congrats! How was the premed journey for you?
of 20
where did u go undergrad and where do u go now
shit was hard
only got 1 common app school
temple university
berkeley from downtown
I am definitely not telling you guys where I am now, med school classes are like 90-150 a year
ok
They’re that small?
I was planning on showing up thanks for ruining my plans
No wonder it’s so hard to get in
ima be like kay chung but at med school just wait 🤞
What
some schools admit more, but graduating classes usually range around 100
academic weapon getting no sleep and on the verge of being insane
That’s insane even public schools?
have u never seen kay chung's tiktoks she's actually nuts
No I haven’t
cant wait for my med school dreams to be cooked by the end of 1st semester freshman year
she's a student at ucla dental
Doesn’t sound good
She like goes days without sleep and records her all nighters studying for tests with like double the safe dosage of caffeine
She will drink a redbull and pour a 5 hour energy in it
pull up to her midterm and body it
She’s going to have health issues
@hasty mulch if you dont mind sharing
did you take a gap year or some amount of time between undergrad and med school?
100% unnecessary
well yeah she said that she just can't study for weeks before test it doesn't work for her
she's better studying intensely the night prior
research says the opposite
anyways, you guys can queue up questions for me if you tag me, I answer when I have time. Gotta go
other than this
did you participate in any research labs?
was pre-med and is med school as incredibly hard as it's made out to be?
how did you find the med school application process?
and take care
if this is the route of premed after watching her video, i knew for a damn fact i dont want to do premed cuz 8 hrs studying to get a B. imma be real i would kms i genuiely would contemplate everything
also didnt she fail or soemthing so she needs to retake it or no
large publics probably range into the 200-250 sizes
this is not the route of the premed. for that matter, there is a term for this called "medfluencers" that are honestly not looked well upon by either me or any of my colleagues. I have never heard of a medfluencer being held in a positive light "within the industry" as it were
median age at top schools is almost always around 24. This means most people have either 1 year (apply during gap) or 2 years (gap year, then apply) before matriculation into medical school
anecdotally, "going straight through" as we call it is exceedingly rare. I've only met 1-2 people who've done it.
Even for people who were capable of going straight through, it isn't advisable. Once you start medical school, work never really stops. Taking a gap not only betters your chances on your application, it also helps your interviewing skills and allows you to grow a little outside of an undergrad environment. For what it's worth, I can almost always tell if students on interview have taken a gap or not, just based on how they act.
Anecdotally, again- I have only met one student who has been mature despite going straight through.
yeah that makes sense
more experiences outside of school because youre not burdened by classes and tests
doing research is required for a competitive application to medical school. You should always take into account the ease of getting good research at the undergrad you decide to go to.
More like interaction with people that are outside your generation
so part of it* is a maturity issue?
a large portion of it, in my opinion
premed can be hard depending on the school. In my opinion, grade deflation is where people get hit the hardest. It is discouraging to get C's in needlessly hard intro pre req classes, and students often feel that their premed journey is over because of how valuable GPA is to the med school app.
Thank you!
tbh i didnt really think there was a big maturity issue amongst pre-meds
but when i really think about it, i guess i can see how that might happen
However, GPA, just like MCAT, is a checkbox- once you cross a threshold number, the rest of the application is more important. I had C's in intro chem and orgo, but there's a bit of survivorship bias in that anecdote
you need look no further than the often incestuous nature of premed or pre professional clubs at many universities- all headed by the same clique, many times
If you’re not fully sure you’re going oremed, can you have Ecs/research in another field (for example veterinary science) and would this hurt your chances?
true true
pre-med frats kinda scare me, frats overall tbh
bro iw as considering joining a premed frat
I'd love to drink booze with like minded individuals with the same career aspirations that sounds like the dream
frat hazing and stuff seems stupid to me
if you guys are gonna force me to piss on a statue to be friends with you in your little club
maybe i dont wanna be friends with you, you dont sound like very nice people
but maybe theres more to it im just blatantly ignoring
the best type of research for medical school is basic science research, which is in contrast to clinical studies. So I would recommend going for basic science research in any field. Some of my colleagues specialized in organic/physical chem in undergrad.
probably the exact type of people I'm talking about.
okay but genuinely a pre med frat should be a group of individuals with the same career aspirations that support each other, no?
i do understand clubs are elite and hard to get into especially at huge schools but like getting into one isn't necessarily a bad thing, no?
that's probably how it is in theory, but it rarely shows in practice
not much i don't think
I've had many students on interviews who won't shut up about their frat/sorority
So really school name doesn’t matter to become a doctor
as if that is all they would talk about
i remember going to a panel of a bunch of children's hospital surgeons who were telling us the name of your school does not matter whatsoever
They have had Harvard med school doctors who acted like morons and Carribean Med School doctors who are one of th ebest doctors they've ever seen
The name doesn't matter
Those were exact examples they gave too
you are correct! everyone graduates a doctor. Most medicine practiced is outpatient internal medicine, so that means you won't really have any issues matching out of medical school.
is it a bad thing to not currently know what field within medicine i want to pursue?
basically my thinking is that i haven't had any experience with any specific field, so id prefer to have experiences and see what suits me from that
vs immediately having something in mind before entering undergrad
However, if you are one of the rare people who would like to practice in a highly competitive field such as derm, plastics, etc- then yes, school name is incredibly important.
ive always wondered if it true that cs majors have gone into premed route instead
So how do grades work in med school? are there grades or is it just pass/no pass
There are already ivory towers in medicine. The traditional T5 schools have match lists that are 100% prestigious matches which is impossible without nepotism. Now that board exams are moving towards P/F, many speculate that name will matter even more.
Ah ok, what about clinical experience wise? Would it be fine to have vet hours ?
this depends on the school. There are a few that have pseudo pass/fail, and other with true pass/fail. Stanford and Yale are the only ones that I know about that are completely pass/pass later
you would need actual clinical hours where you are shadowing a medical doctor with patients.
What are med school cycles? what does it mean when someone says "i got into med school after 3 cycles" or something among those lines
Oh ok, suppose you had fewer though and had like an equal amount of vet and physician hours? Would this be a disadvantage? I’m trying to figure out if I need to figure out my path rn or if I can spend a year or two in college
i'm already getting clinical exposure as a prefrosh 🔥 children's hospital internship clutch
cycles are application years. The same reason why some people are in the same grade in school but are born in different years- the school year starts fall.
when are waitlists closed?
damn so it's that hard to get into medschool
Summa
you should get as much hours for both as soon as you can, not for your application, but to figure out what you want to do.
i heard someone get off the waitlist a few days before the first day
will med schools care about activities in hs? like i already have 400 volunteer hours at a hospital as a shift manager for my shift, will they even care?
maybe but unlikely
i mean i'm obv gonna continue volunteering in undergrad but to just say i've been consistently hospital volunteering since 10th grade hs
I’m just worried I’ll be disadvantaged vs someone who realized immediately they wanted to do med or wanted to do vet
And I got a super selective summer internship with a huge children's hospital in my area
what EMTs can do in the hospital is limited, much less a premed university student, and even less a high school student. Even if you have responsibilities, it isn't very believable.
ohhhhhhh what abt being an EMT during college
Is it hard to become one considewring all the certifications and whatnot
most students, including me, and most likely everyone in this chat, had/have no idea what they actually want to do. The important thing is to acquire more experience and see what it's like doing med or vet work, and as you move up the dunning kruger curve, you'll figure out if you enjoy it or not
I was CS for the first 1.5 years of undergrad, so I guess?
That’s valid, I’m definitely planning on getting experience in both fields but seeing all these premeds not even in college is very stressful 😭 like I’m not trying to compare myself but how are they already getting a jump start??
where did u attend for undergrad? and what was the reason for the change?
I didn't even have 5 APs in high school, you'll be fine. The only real jump start you can get is an EMT cert before you get to university.
how reasonable is that
Thank you! Is this something I should really be looking into getting?
I’m not really interested in emergency medicine
You can take a class at cc
ugh i def can't get certified this summer
My internship requires 32 hours a week of work and I have another job with that
Yeah I don’t think I’ll have the time either :(

Mine is forty 😭
where r u interning/what r u doing
it's nice to have, but I wouldn't really ruin my summer for it. Many students who enter medical school don't have an EMT or CNA cert
Thank you! What are your thoughts on getting medical assistant certified?
during the time between undergrad and applying to med school is it a good idea to try to become an EMT and hold that as a job
Is it doable to get certified in like 7 weeks
I changed because I figured out what I wanted to do. I was good at CS, but I couldn't envision myself coding all day at FAANG. I loved my clinical hours, so I switched. It's really as simple as that- you try new things and if you like it, you like it.
So you do a program, take a test, and then apply for certification?

Can you even be an emt in college ?
many colleges have a campus EMT service with a medical director that you can then leverage for ED/ER hours
Thank you so so much! This is all very helpful information
Ohh that makes sense then
besides, major does not really matter anyways. So just do what you are interested in and keep getting clinical hours so you can decide if medicine is even the right path for you.
yea my cousin at berkeley had to do her med school prereqs at ucla over the summer cuz she couldn't get anything at berkeley
That’s absolutely insane
it was fine for her tho cuz she's from the la area
she cold emailed a bunch of ucla faculty and one was down to work with her
How do you find an emt certification program?
Like how do you know if it’s legit
Oh that’s good
I have no idea, I did it through my undergrad
Would you recommend doing this instead? A lot of programs look very expensive
i'm sure a cc would be much more affordable
ugh i gotta get re-cpr certified this summer
I’d have to wait until next summer
honestly, you would be better off shadowing a PCP or a specialized Internal med clinic (neuro, cards) first. Ask them questions about why they asked the questions they did to the patient, and why they chose the therapeutic they did
Because there’s two classes at cc
how do you get in the position to shadow doctors
well, the good thing about doing it through my undergrad was that I just paid tuition like normal since it counted as a class
internships
literally cold email as many of them as possible
they're hard to get but if you land one they almost all will have some sort of shadowing opportunity involved
ah i see
I have no idea what these internships are and I have never met anyone in them
Hmm ok I was planning on shadowing already this summer (hopefully interventional radiology) but I will be sure to do that
how do you even get their emails tho
you just goin on hospital websites?
prob ya
lookin up doctors and emailin em like that
I’ll try to do this as well
go to your local hospital website, email them from your .edu email.
Yeah I googled my hospital high school programs and they have internships and whatever
Although the best way to do it is through networking through a MD or MD/PhD PI, or otherwise connected professor
i know a dvm/phd prof
i plan to volunteer in their lab if possible eventually
but that's the extent of my connections
got nothing when it comes to MDs
then you can ask them if they know anybody in human medicine that you can be introduced to, but your milage will vary
LinkedIn goes crazy
Do you have it?
nah but im considering just making one atp
Reaching out via LinkedIn never hurts
You should
theyre a really close mentor i just havent gotten around to asking
Idk it’s helped me a lot
im sure theyd say yes tho
W
they wrote a rec letter on my behalf to berkeley
was very nice of them
but yeah ill get to making a linked in
Did you get augmented review?
yeah
Bro you were def getting into Berkeley
at the time i was like this aint happening
XD
Getting augmented review when you’re not in college of engineering is basically them telling you you’re getting in
weird choice, but cool machines. Even consultant residents and clerks don't go into the IR operation room, we just watch from the viewing theatre.
not like augmented
i dont think
they just asked for LoRs
didnt specifically say augmented
like very sure its random with a few criteria as qualifiers
I have had 6 nj tubes placed in me and have been unconscious for all of them so I’d like to see the process some time! It seems very interesting and that makes sense
Yeah sorry augmented is ucla
all good
But yeah if you get this and you’re not in eng you’re basically in
i mean it raises ur acceptance chance quite a lot
cause you get an extra piece of ur app that most other applicants didnt get to submit
i wouldnt say that its a basically in tho
It’s a very very very high percentage
I forgot exactly
My friend and I did a lot of research when he got it
jeez, I assume as a small child? sorry you had to go through that. You will likely see a lot of stroke stent placement or GI ulcer ablation
No last month sadly 😭 I have been nj tube free for 2 weeks though which is nice! Thank you, I appreciate it. I don’t know what those are, but they sound very interesting
22% of submitters in 2023 were accepted
but 58% of submitters in 2022 were accepted
i hope ur doin well as of now
Dang
Sadly not but we’ll get there 💪 hopefully before college
i wish you the best, you're strong and will get through it ❤️
yeah berkeley asks ~15% of applicants to submit letters of recommendation
thank you!! ❤️
nah
np you got this fr
they just do it to better judge applicants idk
interrogation time
like in november/december
/january
nvm lmao
i got mine the day after submitting my berkeley application
i thought they just started asking wled apps
wut?
is it randomized or did they like ur app so much that they read it instantly
just says a select group
of applicants
not random
according to the uc regents report
"The Augmented Review (AR) process at UC Berkeley follows Regents Policy 2110 with no more
than 15% of freshman applicants reviewed under the policy. Within this process, select applicants
are invited to submit up to two letters of recommendation to be considered during the reading
process. Students invited to submit a letter of recommendation may come from the following
populations: first-generation college students, students qualifying for an application fee waiver,
and students participating in early academic outreach programs."
the part i bolded is what probably got me the LoR request
i did one of those programs with one of the UCs and put it on my application
i was the only person at my school to do it
and from what i do know, the only person to get the LoR request from berkeley
very interesting
yes
berkeley?
wait nvm its uc wide
ig berkeley cares a lot abt demonstrated interest in the way that if ur involved with the UCs or UC Berkeley, they like u a ton
prob the main reason im wled and not rejectedd is cuz one of my essays was abt how im involved in uc berkeley research
getting the LoR nod is like getting set up for a slam dunk if im honest
its usually tossed around as one of if not the most holistic UCs
getting to give Berkeley LoRs can put you apart from most of the applicants without them
i got proof for this lmao, but it may doxx me
tyty :D
aw ty ty :)
i don't think its out yet
dam
ur first reaction is to share it to us lmao
do we mean that much to u 🥹
but in all srsness, stay safe
its an alert for ucsd so i decided to share since i don't go there
but i got the alert cuz
ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
oh
bomb threat 💣
Accepted to UC Merced and UC Riverside 😄
Congrats!
What major are you?
Oh wait I remember
international affairs
Yeah
congrats!
What’s the projected percentages of getting off UCLA waitlist this year
no one knows
its possible to guess
the yield rate flunctutates too much to determine an actual number of how many students are approximated to get off
i don’t think so
they usually waitlist a lot of people anyway
i don’t think the ucs changed much because of the fafsa tbh
other than the SIR date
we cant assume that
no offense but this is my theory: because ucs are instate and some students still dont have their fafsa or financail stuff for other colleges, they may commit to the ucs due to financial reasons just a thought
ikr
well heck
i mean the thing is if theyd rather go to those other colleges wouldnt they uncommit from the UCs eventually
to go to those colleges when the fin aid for them go through
bro the two unis i want to get off the waitlist are both public
should've just went there and live there
which ones?
join me in my daily berkeley prayer
yea i'm the econ
oh yeaaa
i want cmu and ucsd so bad right now
like im down bad
brooo waitlists are sooo annying
like stop giving me hope ughhh
fr
no way
akjnwkjadnkjwn
tell me what place im in like come on
i mean id be happy, but like still
for what
bro yeaaa
yeahhh either reject me or accept me dont keep me waiting
idk someone said this in this server
i keep giving myself hope
i shouldn't
pro tip: to not give urself hope, just withdraw from the waitlist 👍
/j
yeag, i donated the 500 dollars
yeah purdues is kinda high
yeah for uc berkeley lol
Lmao
T5 ai program 💪
(Only 5 schools have an ai program, and Purdue is probably 5th lol)
wait @gentle wyvern i thought u were going davis, did u change ur mind
Ok I think I'm going to commit to UC Riverside
Mainly because it'll have more opportunities for international affairs
And also it's easier to get to and has more stuff in the city itself
I just with their dorms were better
wish
congrats!
i mean they're innovative for having an AI program so
congratss
yea, thats basically why i chose it :D
Purdue is awesome
tyty :D
Ur da #1 UCSD lover I’ve ever seen
Hopefully they hand you a spot
@gentle wyvern ik a lot of people at my school who are turning down ucsd
if it makes u feel any better
hope to see u there big bro
I’m gonna turn it down too broski
Best of luck!
And most people ik who got in are turning it down as well
Let’s go boss
does anyone know when berk and la appeal decisions came last year?
