ucsc is way too close to home for me
penn state
i see
yeah i like neu
but i just have this
overwhelming guilt for making my parents pay
penn state is cracked
i also got into upitt but meh
as long as your parents have enough for retirement h should be okay
upitt for bio is underrated asl
at the end of the day that money still going to ur inheritance
It'll be the same price if you do coops
kinda like if you take it now vs taking it later on in life
i know
im doing engineering
i cant tell if theyre joking or not when they say they have to dip into their retirement fund
and my brother's only 5 years younger whats their plan for him
yeah hope so idk if i can do 2 coops in four years though
if your parents work cs js pray they dont get laid off
my dads been in the same company for like
as long as they move away from the bay in retirement theyre gonna be fine
14 years
should be solid then
my mom has some skillset thing thats very in dmeand
but also like
am i screwing over my little brother
how old are they though
hope so
my brother can just go to riverside or something <3
its a miracle i got into neu in the first place
3.38 gpa anyone?
When is uc davis decision release?
3.38 into neu is wild
lmfao thatโs crazy
but congrats
Approx a week
alr
i love him and all but you try reading his essays
it's so bad i never know where to begin
and granted im sure the pandemic was part of that
but holy shit its so bad
only applied to ucd and ucla
i had to explain interior angles to him and i think i lose cells
feel the same way w my sis lol
every sentence is fragments
i have war flashbacks to trying to edit his essays
mentally im still on that one day where i got rejected 5 times in one day lmfaoo
that makes sense then
My mentality Fr Fr
last year's are pinned
i did a chanceme post once
let me show you the comment
Wait did Riverside come out today also?
its on your uc app
a while ago
"this is meant in a funny/nice way, r u a lazy fuck??"
nah cuz thats a valid question
This is very fucked up
i have adhd
ik kids in my school who chill with a 3.0 who do insanely well in exams but cant do other stuff
me on standardized tests
i am not a high gpa kid
honestly wanna get checked for adhd but im a good test taker that cant write well
as we just established
get checked for dysgraphia
while you're at it
Yes
as in
I think coops are mandatory for everyone
struggles with writing
one is but idk abt two
How old is he
its not that bad but compared to my peers my writing is so shit
just 13
uhhhhh
only got as cuz i was carries in groupworks
i get it ive never gotten higher than a b im so bad at essays
u can prob undo it
Then he has time
i worry about the fundamentals
thats a lie i didnt do honors english this year bc we dont have it and i got a 99
oh
and in my 2.8/3.0 freshman year english was the only class i had an a in
so i guess i can only do well if i dont try
im 2 for 2 (1.5/2???) for uc acceptances rn with a chance of being rescinded
Why 1.5
My freshmen Gpa Fr Fr
uc super beach's chancellor thing
and got accepted to uc summer camp
I don't think that's 0.5
that's a proper acceptance iirc
true ig
How does ucsc give decision
bruh every time i ask my counselor my chances at anything i always get the opposite
so ive stopped
you still dont have one fish?
Nope
portal
did they js look at gpa or smthing
i was setting up my ucr portal
and i finished and it was just there
def not just gpa lol
idek why i waited till the day of to set it up
honestly wild
surely not right
tbf i made my ucsb portal yesterday
nah mine was pretty horrible
wait no i made ucr yestersay
in what regard?
unweighted
if you don't mind me asking, what was it
3.73
are you fucking with me
thats not that bad at all whatsoever
im rocking a 3.65 lmao
I had a 3.6 uw in high school and still got into CSULJ
albeit I had some kek SAT and ACT scores ๐
im probably finished at the rest of the UCs without any miracles cause the rest i did are tough
irvine, davis, sd, la, and berkeley
Who knows tbh
I defo didn't expect to be WL'd at Berkeley when I applied
I also didn't expect to get into SD but waitlisted at SB and Irvine(thought they would be surefire acceptances)
eventually the SB and Irvine waitlists translated to acceptances but yeah you never know @agile wedge
you could straight up be rejected from the good UC's and get into Berk
i mean yeah the UC system can be a bit interesting at times
the nerves would kill me considering Berkeley releasing very late on the 28th
they r keeping u at the edge of ur seat
id have to go an entire week thinking i was screwed if that occurred
tbh I don't get the prestige Berk gets
master of suspense
i mean it is the flagship UC with plenty of research
research is everywhere ngl.
their cs program tho
but that stuff isnt undergrad related
they got good undergrad stuff probably
i just havent looked into it too much
All the UC's do
Tbh I feel like I have better opportunities here at SD than at Berk
how is the social scene at UCSD though
SD's quarter system allowed me to take classes in CENG and also business
wait bro r u a ucsd student
would be tough to do in a school like Berk
yeah
on ivy day ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ might possibly be the most depressing day of my life
actually pretty good
he goes to csu la jolla
omgg I love ucsd
shhh
thats good then
ucsd is probably one of my favorite ucs anyway
cause pre-med
yeah exactly
i figure if i went to ucsd for pre-med id have a very good time
but very hard to get in
and i doubt id get it
damn lol
@agile wedge don't sell yourself short man
who knows
Hell even I thought I wouldn't get in to UCSD cause my GPA apparently was in the middle 50% of acceptances
that is true
im cooked
but it is the hope that kills you
fr bellingham stop selling urself short
all i have to do is look at my other reaches
u gotta expect the unexpected
we will see
as of now am grateful for riverside at least
u will see acceptances
oo congrats
i like every class in this schedule but the order absolutely pisses me off
thanks!
actually i lied i like half of them
Riverside is great. One of my friends turned down SD for Riverside cause Riverside Med gives preference to UCR alumni
no ur gonna be cooking in ur dorm of ur dream university
I would've gone to UCR if I didn't get into SD tbh
they gave me B.S./M.S, Honors college, and Chancellors scholarship
actually I'd be torn between UCR/UCD/UCI/UCSB
yeah for the pathway to their med school
very very good option
its honestly my top option rn
i only have 3 acceptances tho: temple, ucr, and cal poly pomona
UCR and CPP are ok
does berk give preference to Berkeley bs majors for the haas program
idk lol, I heard Haas is competitive
or like Berkeley undergrads
Luckily Rady allows for literally anyone to take their business classes
oh great I wanna do an MBA there ๐ญ
it's not locked in
you have a long ways to go before MBA
and I mean a long ways( coming from a prospective MBA here lmao)
Probably UCSD or anywhere for that matter
iirc i did ucsd john muir as my top spot and revelle as my lowest
cause i hate math

I'm finishing up undergrad next quarter and finishing up my M.S. next year
oh do they prefer ucsd undergrads over other students
damnn
got into the B.S./M.S. program for my major
nice nice
no
does ucsd have the 4+1 thing
or at least I don't think so
thatโs cool wtf
yeah for certain majors
which ones
I'm in one rn
I know Engineering does
oo ucsd is now one of my elite choices
yeah it's pretty elite ngl
loll I love the campus
Betcha Berkeley doesn't have that 4+1 program
screw Berkeley
They rejected me 4 years ago and I'm still salty
wtf
sleepin on ucsd
ucsd is up there fr fr
ill give u an opinion on this after march 28
I have nvr slept on ucsd
I swear idk how UCSD got ultra competitive over the span of 4 years lol
ucsd the goat unless they reject me
if they reject me its a diff story
When I applied, the acceptance rate was around 33%
goat regardless jk
WHAT
itโs like all the ucs
WHEN DID IT
isnโt it lower than 20?
HUH
calm down im not a cop
I WAS STILL OPERATING UNDER THE BASIS IT WAS LIKE 33%
ull be fine
who told you i was black wtf
That was like 4 years ago lol
yoo im just reciting a TikTok audio ๐
UCLA's acceptance rate rn is like 8% now
I remember when UChicago was at 8% acceptance rate
i just fell to my knees man
the dream is over
I just saw a man fall to his knees outside Walmart
Insane
Meanwhile Berk
Tfw Irvine is at 25.7% and UCSB is at 27.9%
I think what makes UCSD/UCLA/Berky so hard to get in is the fact that so many applicants apply now
yeah but like my uc app was NOT good
When I applied, UCSD had 105k applications total
i should have fuckin done it
i almost did it
but i didnt
now im missing out on ucsb or ucsc
UCSD had like 130k applications this year I think
its either riverside or one of the other ones takes a shot on me
Ngl I kinda underestimated how well I'd do with the UCs
I got UCSB Regents, UCR Chancellors, and UCSC so far
daaaamn
I dunno why I was so neurotic that I spent like $421000412020 to apply to all of the UCs
๐ญ
you did far better than I did lol
I never got UCSB regents
tbh idk how they even calculate that
capped weighted gpa or unweighted?
I'd take capped weighted with a grain of salt, unweighted may be a problem
weighted gpa (non UC) i currently have a 3.96 but it counts all 4 years (i severely fucked up freshman year with 6 Bs in 1 semester and my school barely offers APs)
yeah capped weighted is so wack my gpa dropped just cuz i took 6 extra courses even tho i got all As
well, if it makes you feel better , I went to a brand new school when I was in high school
we barely had any classes freshman year
in fact our first ever AP class was AP Human Geo and that was in 10th grade lol
ah at least ucโs donโt factor 9th grade in gpa calc
yeah
my unweighted is probably like a 3.7 or so i guess for 10th and 11th
yeah they don't. I massively f'ed up my freshman year when I was in HS so
yeah
it's all good man
i mean yeah
freshman year was my best year ๐ญ
i guess then im mainly worried about the writing
my best was in sophomore year lol
sameee
senior year 1st semester and sophomore 2nd semester were 2 of my best years
Mine were sophomore year and junior year 2nd sem
particularly sophomore 2nd i only had Bs in visual art and algebra
ah so you locked in when needed
very good
ah yeah I had one B in AP Hug one semester and one B in Honors English in Sophomore year
rest were all A's
in Junior year I had 3 B's and 3A's 1st sem and 4A's 2B's in 2nd Sem
from sophomore - junior years I had 3 Cs, all in math, plus 3 Bs
other than that all As
CSE might me the major that crushes a lot of applicants' dreams
tbh I also had a good SAT/ACT to pad any low grades
did u do loci
so I could pull the "I had a hard teacher" card
Were the UCs test opt already or nah by then
I forgor
Did one for Berkeley but not for SB or I
oh so u just let it happen damn
bro i feel cooked ngl
i dont have that but i have big extenuating circumstances and participation in a UC EAOP program
hopefully they assume this w calc bc for me cuz i got a B both sems but a 5 on the exam
Nah I was part of the last class that had mandatory SAT/ACT submissions
so I was forced to submit one or the other or both
I had a 1500 SAT and 35 ACT so I just submitted both
I got mine 2 weeks after the first wave and it was an acceptance
you are fine
pranav always giving me reassurance
tbh after I got into SD I felt that it didn't matter if I got into Irvine/SB or not so I didn't send a LOCI to them
ucsd is my dream (dont tell LA, they dont gotta know)
screw UCLA
their campus sucks anyway
they don't got beach
well....... lol
fax
if ucsd doesnโt gimme 6th college imma be so sad
ive had to live on it, its not bad
I'm a Sixer lol
but it aint particularly stellar either
i luv ucsd u dont understand
i put 6th as 6th on my preference list
and ucla
I'm just trying to make anxious high schoolers feel better ok???
yoo howโd you like it
my bad
or one
tbf the hill at ucla does fuckin suck
Best experience ever. Still miss it
in terms of steepness
does the school u chose like sixth or seventh impact decisions
very annoying ass shit
and the fact they put 3 people to a small non airconditioned room
yeah we don't have triples in Sixth college
it's either singles or doubles
so is it like first accepted into ucsd then the specific college?
ah
sounds like the sensible way to go
i put revelle as dead last and if i end up there i wouldnt even be mad cause id be at ucsd
colleges are mostly your dorms + how you want to structure your writing/GE sequence
Revelle's writing and GE sequence suck if you're a STEM major
do they ever actually give you a college thatโs below your top 3 ranking
you probably made a good choice putting Revelle dead last
it happens but it's rare
like really rare
which i am
i tried to do a bit of research into each college
and revelle did NOT look like fun in terms of the work
i put john muir, thurgood, and roosevelt as my top 3
you may be housed in a different college than what you got into but UCSD will try their hardest to affiliate you into one of your top three choices
oh bet
Muir is good, Marshall is kinda teetering on the edge, Roosevelt might be bad
wait ppl have started living in eight college right
yeah in like 1 building
8th college looks like a jail ngl
oh ๐๐๐
not as bad as Muir but it's pretty bad
I had a class there and the colors were awful ( made an already boring class even more depressing)
GE's are chill though
so it's cool
aesthetically not pleasing buildings though
howโs seventh
Seventh actually looks nice ngl and has easy GE's
I like it
i forget which one i did
did financial aid come with acceptance for ucs
uz idk if they are gunna this year
is it rlly far from campus?
it's kinda far from the center of campus(Geisel/Price Center/Center Hall) but you're really close to the gym so...
does 6th have good dorms
best dorms
nice
ah
i put 7th fifth
tbh shuttle buses run every 5-10 minutes so if you don't want to walk, just take the bus
i put seventh second or third
@rustic agate did you live on campus all 4 years or move out
No they kick you out after 2 years
2 years is guaranteed
you could try waitlisting for housing after sophomore year but it's not guaranteed
if you do get housing though, you could stay
lively as in?
like stuff to do
ah yeah there's stuff to do in University City
La Jolla city is actually south of campus and kinda far to reach without a car
Chemical Engineering
I already got in
W
I'm staying at UCSD for another year cause I got into the B.S./M.S. program for my major
I managed to calculate my 10th + 11th grade years combined
culmulative I managed a 3.98w and a 3.67 uw
but most of the dragging down was 10th grade 1st semester
otherwise it was a 3.71uw
2 4.14Ws during 11th grade
basically 10th grade 1st semester was shit but then i came in strong
we'll see how the UCs like it but i tried ig
@agile wedge you've done all that you've done
the rest is out of your hands
this is the cold hard truth
We'll just have to see how March plays out
In the mean time, I'm wishing you good luck and rooting for you no matter what happens
yeah
ay thanks man
hopefully i will attend csu la jolla
we will see though
Sending good sungod vibes your way
if you do get in, we should plan a meetup at some point
that would be nice
im coming in right as you're going out lol
Nah I have another year
oh yeah masters my bad
you'll see me
tbf ucsd would be ideal
im from LA and my parents desperately want me in driving distance
so itd be cool
ooh which part?
I'm from the LA area too
wont get too specific but id say closer to LAX
so like west la
I see. I'm from the OC area(Irvine/Lake Forest area)
cool cool
im from oc no way
well i am in oc
csu la jolla meet up in fall?
yes sir
I'm down
Fun fact: I've met Benz in real life
no way what
Haven't met @outer gyro yet though
Benz the mod
idk the most famous people I've met irl are some Telugu film stars
looking at my 10th and 11th grade years i feel rather hopeful cause i did well in the weighted gpa part
i see i see
closest ive got to fame is the real madrid team training at UCLA
i saw the actual bellingham 15 feet from me
bro waved
oh yeah we got some famous sports teams practicing on the RIMAC field
what teams did yall have
never got to see them in person though
over last summer united came to san diego but idk if they practiced at UCSD or not
man do i love manchester united
oh yeah Man United came down
NO WAY
i devoted a piece of one of my uc piqs to manchester lmao
cause i was talking about travelling and stuff
Actually the most famous sports players I've met are cricket stars
so like Sachin, Jayawardene, Shane Warne...
thats pretty cool
RIP Shane Warne ๐ข
My favorite guy on the Australian cricket team
Cricket's just not the same without him
you will regularly be able to find both benz and myself at pines
i've met benz a few times there
this is my worry cuz i got into berk
tbh i wouldn't mind i love Berk but 25% ar for uc's will hurt
whati is UCSD acceptance rate for CS

What about for electrical engineering?
tbh i have no clue. i mean its a capped major
For Santa Cruz, are the rest of the decisions rolling or is it on a specified date?
do ucsd uci ucla ucd usually post on their socials a few days before about the confirmed decision date
SD/LA no
UCI not sure
I think davis at least hints at it
SD/LA is such a shit show
Like I see why they donโt bc server traffic but at the same time donโt release three UCs in an hour if thatโs a worry
When do we think SD and LA decisions are coming out this yr? Cuz some ppl were saying cuz 3/1 was a Friday it might be pushed back to the 22nd and not 15th๐ญ
Anyone applied to UCSD CS?
so true, warnie was a gem๐ข
same question
can we expect decisions to come in about 2 weeks, if we're forecasting it based on last year's decisions?
I mean UCSD, UCLA and UCD?
ucsb decision came out?
is out
no it isnt
Is not?
I saw someone in celebration area posted their college list saying ucsb is accepted
Hmm
they released a couple early acceptances bc of scholarships but the majority of decisions arenโt out iirc
Only regents/chancellors
genuine question, why are uc decisions so random
like a lot of other universities, decisions can be moderately predicted
however, everyone i talk to say that uc admissions are a lottary
aside for ivy's and very selective unis ofc
this is great news
because uc's are also very selective and ivy level ish
you can't predict any <t40 uni tbh
is that even organic for students?
like have been really pondering about this, it's only going to get worse in the future
should be able to gauge to some extent your capacity but it seems that's far from that case with US colleges
tbh if it were easy to get into these colleges that defeats the point of being a selective uni
There genuinely should be advice at schools on how students should apply to more than the average number of schools
getting into a t40< uni is fairly easy and straightforward just get good grades do something outside of school and be authentic
this isn't about whether it's easy to get in or not, was referencing your point about it being a lottery
it's not exactly a lottery
Obviously safeties are nice but the targets/semi reaches should be more varied since it also has an element of luck
hard to predict yeah but a lottery implies complete randomness
Uc irvine anyone?
i agree that it's not 'completely random', you definitely to have some prerequisite elements of an app to even be able to be considered a part of that random sample
legit this server is just Reddit people speaking but in a more chill tone ๐ญ like we give advice in the same format as Reddit but less formal
just feel it's not very healthy in the long run to have an extremely random system. there's not anything you or i can do about it tbh because it's competition and sheer amount of apps that is driving this majorly, I doubt if the UCs received as many apps as they did it would be such an 'ambigious' process
funny how I'm nearly the same on reddit and dc lol
but yea i use more full sentences on reddit so you've got me there
This is why the UK system makes sense
But I must admit since I didnโt have a teacher teaching me as levels it was hard to prepare for the MAT
it took me like 10x more effort
that's the whole beauty of holistic admissions
so it could affect students who are in economically disadvantaged backgrounds
tbh anyone who puts in the effort will get in somewhere good
but itโs more predictable
yeah but ^
you can't predict us decisions yes but that's why you apply safeties/targets/reaches
You can easily predict t40< hnis
check pins for last year, around that time
Yeah
yep
personally i don't see much beauty in it but it's a game I'm forced to play rn
I prefer the UK's system, but I don't think it would be too far off from what the US's is if it had the same population and received similar amounts of international apps
if you set a strict rubric on what applicants are judged on and what you need to do to get in, everybody will do that and obviously those with better resources/money will have an advantage
Like if you say get a 1550+ sat and you're in, you're restricting a lot of people
Currently tho since a lot of pressure is happening on uk Unis especially for majors like CS admission tests seem to be put in place for 2025
People with straight A stars get rejected from Durham
Holistic gives you a chance to showcase what you've done without being compared to someone with completely different circumstances from yours
yea am starting to see this. Competition is getting intensely tough
at the same time, a lot of this has to do with tons of schools inflating predicts as well
people don't talk about it enough
not tru
most likely sure
I mean thatโs the case usually with all the systems we can come up with
depends on your definition of "good"
agreed
Us applicant numbers tho are much higher
and the gpa system Iโm gonna be honest with u sucks
cuz some schools inflate their student grades
actually not some
A lot
you saying more US apps to the UK? Wouldn;t be surprised by it
seems a very common issue
hundreds of thousands of students have such high GPAs
makes it really difficult on top colleges
mine has grade deflation avg chem jr year was fucking 55 ๐
ahh that sucks lol. My school actually did that quite a bit for normal tests but when it came to mocks (I do CIE A-Levels) they knew that they can't lowball us as it makes us unable to gauge how we'll do in the real exams and affect our apps
they screwed us for normal tests lol but they were generous for predicted
No more apps to us Unis than apps to uk Unis
because they want their students to get offers lol
The us is much more famous or appealing globally
yea mine were also quite generous for predicteds, it was quite infuriating for me to see people who were barely scratching As somehow get A*s in all of their subjects
there is a decent difference in the scores for most subjects so it's interesting how tons of schools are just making it worse for students in the long run
they're actually not doing us much of a favor in the long run
ahh ok. makes sense
Actually seen nyu data and they equate a levels more generously
A B in A level is an A minus in the American system
even cie has the same equivalency
lol do not apply for CS
But discrete maths?
Yeah
This kid had 4 A stars
i'm not sure how they arrived to that conclusion but it could be because A-Levels don't have an equivalent in a US curriculum unless you're doing IBs
and great awards
Itโs on the CIE site
yea i know that and it doesn't quite seem right
Not rlly
There's too much variation among our high schools to say for sure
The best comparison you'll get is with AP exams
a levels are much harder than the AP tests
Or more harsh on boundaries
i applied PPE, which is only marginally easier as one doesn't need to take further maths like for Econ to stand a chance in the top UK unis
Cuz of income disparities
Nicee I think PPE is also one of the most difficult
Nah ppl from certain areas are generally just dumber
there isn't any comparison in terms of content, rigour and general difficulty
I grew up in a high-income/dumb area
it's up there, can tell by the general requirements as well. of course it's not as high as engineering courses but among humanities subjects it's on the higher side
and even if they say the reqs are A*AA, more often than not you'll need 3-4 A stars like other courses to feel slightly assured of your spot
in top unis that is
kinda is in the difficulty aspect but content wise we arenโt following a strict college course equivalent like AP exams do and the fact that people can remove their AP scores is crazy
well it's not because certain APs are comparable to IGs whereas some have A-Level content
and yea i agree about the removing AP score part. It's a far greater blow to remove your A-Level grade
Yeah like stats
plus, the fact that A-Level Mathematics is a completely integrated math course rather than being broken down into Calculus, Trig etc.
makes it slightly different
For me it is broken down
Well for all uk students it is
We have modules
Or papers
yea i get that, so does CIE
But yeah u gotta do well on all of them
To get the overall mark
Not one for Calc
etc
my school offers International AS and A levels and when I called the UCs ab reporting them they said its non honors ๐ญ
I do further too so I take ๐ญ crazy amounts
yeaa lol
Probably doing mech 3 or stats 3 ๐
people who do further in my school forgo one A-Level like CS or Chem
cuz the workload gets really intense
I think when u step into further maths no AP courses can equate to it
But unfortunately no uni understands that
And course credit isnโt given
definitely. I wrote my A-Level Math paper last week and would say it was incredibly advanced compared to previous years
Pure 3
US Unis won't really understand that
And boundaries always seem to be getting higher ๐
just because it's 'normal math' doesn't mean it's normie stuff
๐ I bet u they donโt look at the course content at all
yes, altho could also be a symptom of having lower thresholds during COVID
they rejected a guy from Oxbridge with a BSc cuz apparently it doesnโt equate to one in America
So he must take a masters in the uk to do a masters in the us
๐
ridiculous
Nah
or do like an MPhil
look at older papers
They got more greedy cuz thereโs no ofqual regulation
for outside boards
at least in our case, Math papers have been getting harder during the last 3-4 years
There slightly is but not as strict as there is in the uk
the only thing is that thresholds were really high in previous years
Yeah I do cs cie too which has the same feeling
like 235/250 was the A* mark during Feb March 2019's season
which is quite flabbergasting
๐
yeah same with me
They so much higher rn
If u do a silly mistake
U canโt even get the a star
lol yea
very little margin for error
they've also been changing the formats of a few subjects off late
econ and CS come to mind
so adapting to that is another thing
And the marking is so strict I understand but ๐ I got like a question and didnโt get a mark for a quadratic solving step even tho I did the ac b method and solved it cuz it was ok and were talking about further maths here and the question didnโt specify anything
They need u to read that spec so specifically like ur a lawyer
subtle changes cost 10 marks in cs ๐
they introduced some random shit last year that no one noticed on the spec lmao
the other thing is that for econ at least, they don't publically release the spec answers
thankfully some of that LLT knowledge came to help ๐ญ
๐
they're only available to teachers so unless they do a little bit of under-the-rug business (which they all should do), students won't know how to structure their answers
legit tryna milk money out of international students
Yeah itโs legit a business
Istg
like a lot of money especially Cambridge for some reason they make a fee for anything
honestly imagine top unis listed a minimum gpa and ib/ap requirement, which if you fulfill, you get in
for more compeititive majors there can be tests
cambridge makes a ton of money from these sorts of exams. Consider how they also set the IELTS exams
Cambridge breathing fee 2025
that's another massive revenue stream
that would be really useful, even if it's obviously not a perfect system
That would be good but also suck since some people in more affected areas donโt even have AP/IB unfortunately
would allow applications to contract slightly which is needed in this climate
We have a semi decent solution
can try to convert them as much as possible
yeah, but then that is why in the uk you have "contextual admissions" aswell, where the school may consider your circumstances
Yeah but itโs not as generous as the us
which is understandable
also contextual offers are only made to UK students right?
i'm not very familiar with them so I may be wrong
im lucky i didnt need to worry about that but yea
Yeah and imagine conditionals that ruins a lot of peoples chances to continue since they need to achieve the grades strictly
My friend did
program?
CS
I'm happy the london unis are finally rolling some offers now
but I must admit there werenโt a lot of acceptances on Reddit
i did edinburgh math and i even heard from them to apply for scholarship but no offer
keeps me really excited for my UC apps now, felt it was gonna be a dry spell until the end of march lol
All the Unis send the scholarship emails anyway
whato are the conditions
only edinburgh did for me
Donโt know but itโs on their site probably
Warwick and UCL did for me and Bristol which I got one from
i got into manchester in 10 days but no scholarship mail until way after
uh huh nice
Same I think Manchester auto admits offers
as long as ur grades are above
honestly man, so annoying
when did you end up getting yours from UCL? Got mine from Warwick but i'm not really considering it
applied in november
YES
oxbridge deadline๐ญ
I got into Oxford so I donโt care about Warwickโs rlly annoying team ๐ genuinely rejecting half of the student population even with their 5 a stars
they havenโt responded lmao
they think of themselves as oxbridge/imperial type unis ๐ญ
but they sent a scholarship email
oh that's wonderful news. unfortunately tripped in the finish line for oxbridge but am waiting to see if LSE comes out fine
ay yo congos nice
omg congrats
I messed up the interview
i messed up my mat
Idk how I got in but the context was good Ig and suppercurriculars? Mat score was decent
i think that's relative because my mate who got in also said the same thing but it clearly was enough for him in the end
i didnt get even get an interview from oxford OR imperial which is just disappointing af
what is ur education system
just waiting for dat imperial rejection now
And what were ur grades
imperial interviews can be a lot more decisive. if you get one, you're quite likely to get in
is my understanding, i didn't apply but yea
india(isc) and 98% predicted and 10th grade 98% too
Yeah itโs more on the test
THATS CRAZY ๐
wth Oxford is so stupid
i already got rejected from imperial, 1 week after giving my aero/eee mat exam ๐ญ๐
yeah but its lowkey disappointing for not getting interview
the thing is my course is jmc AND IT DOESNT EVEN NEED MAT
tbf i think they hold Indian students to a much higher standard
i genuinely dont know what i screwed up
like they just hate me so they can suck it atp
because you have soo many students who score 95%+ and the quality of the courses are not held equivalently
but yes
did you apply to gtech for math @tidal gale
it's really unfair
ye rejected
yeah guess so but no interview with 98 is abysmal
lot has to do with the entrance test right
damn, i thought getting in for math would be atleast more doable
works that way for my course with the TSA
my imperial test went very well
oh? then i can't quite work out why you've not got an interview. again im not really familiar with how it works there
same its just bad luck maybe
uk is done for me at this point
mhm yea i guess. maybe something relating to the Personal Statement?
i did get in for warwick maths, but that isnt too selective is it
not really worth digging deep into it though
i've heard it's pretty prestigious but idrk
my counsellor was cool with mine so idrk and dont wanna atp
they do nitpick quite a bit with that for LSE
yeah ranking wise its high but its very theory centered whereas i want more towards the applied side of it
very often their reason (even if it's automated at that point) is PS for rejecting
UK disappointed me smh
uh huh
wait do any of the UCs have decision letters or is it all email
everyone other than ucsc, ucr, ucm is on the applicant portals and not an email
okay okay
Wait I was instate and never received a residency email
Is it fine or no
I heard ucsd and ucsc sent out emails abt residency
But I made sure on my app I wrote residency at california
.
Anybody not get ucsc yet?
Me
i didn't get ucsc decision either
me too
it's random I think
or maybe for those of us who aren't U.S. Citizens
I got one back when I applied and all it asked for was a scan of my green card
Ah alr
mf fanon?
piqs aren't meant to be flowery essays
they are questions to which you should provide an adequate answer
so like if you just went straight in and answered with limited nuance that would have been ideal?
this is unknown
Wretched of the earth type shit bruh
31.83% for fall 2023
7623 acceptances out of 23951 oos applicants
personally neu but depends on whether u can afford neu if ur oos
or just afford in general
for either
Hereโs the thing. Really depends. A lot can factor in, especially financial aid and stuff like that. But disregarding that Iโd say NEU. neu has the best co op program
And tbh their program to me sounds far better
yeah its like i feel like im "supposed" to want to go to a uc
Whatโs the reason behind that
If financial aid is an issue, Iโd say ucs tbh
And if u are on the pre med track, idk but UCR is still good
ive been in the bay area my whole life
and the ucs are cheaper than private state schools but so many people i know go to ucs and i feel like it'll feel very similar to where i've lived my whole life
ucr is good for the pre-med track
boston would be pretty different
im doing chemical engineering
not premed
and financial isnt really an issue, ym parents are paying either way, but if i get into a good uc i'll feel bad for picking northeastern over like. davis if i miraculously get in
neu prolly has better opportunities
id say look into NEU's overcrowding but it seems to be the better school
for it to be better than neu
the ucs also seem pretty overcrowded
and im going to nuin first sem anyway
but what uc woud be worth picking over neu
my cc says my only chances are at riverside and santa cruz (didnt apply merced)
anything else is extreme reach
i mean it depends where you're applying from and with what
and i have seen CCs be wrong before
2nd most competitive school arguably in bay
my schools average admitted from merced is higher than my uc gpa
holy fucking shit
what in da fuck
I heard ucb has a really really good chemeng program
did anything come out or what
i am NOT getting into ucb with a 3.85 lmfaooo
what about the ECs
no like sd davis sb la or irvine
grades are a factor but the ECs could help
none of those?
ok not amazing
damn
i mean miracles happen i guess man
and if you got NEU thats quite a W
do you have any extenuating circumstances that affected your grades?
^
that
my grades aint amazing but extenuating circumstances give me a shot
maybe will do the same for you
yeah gpa without context is practically useless
im pretty cool with my gpa in the context i notified the UCs about
maybe i have like a shot at davis
yeah
but it was after freshman year
also i dont get to take aps in sophmore or freshman year
also in 11th my only bs were in weighted classes
so upward trend
does your school offer aps in soph or fresh year?
ucโs love upward trend
oh then itโs fine cuz they see your course offerings
yeah
ah i see
but you had extenuating circumstances to explain your grades tho right
those explanations help
with a 4.33 weights and 3.8 uw, what ucs does that fit into the student profile
4.07 UC GPA though
is it just UCR ?
depends on the school you go to
hmm its slightly above avg , but its public
Check ur schools naviance or data
we dont have one
Itโs honestly the only way to tell
check your schools uc admit data online
itโs available for p much all public ca high schools
ya damn im cooked
everything else was 4.33-4.2 UC GPA
how do you see this
i had to calculate it on my own
cause i was shocked i was top 9%
paly, gunn, etc?
sorta
damn
lynbrook is mid
I beg to differ
yall bay area students got it hard
if i was up there youd catch me kissing my chances at even riverside goodbye
fr I didnโt chooose the Bay Area
it chose me๐
It is mid in that its students are of comparable quality with other Bay Area schools
bay area students are rich as hell
The school may be good but like they're american hs, albany hs, irvington hs tier
Not msj or mountain view tier
looking over at the bay area students im just like "damn that looks like a yikes"
palo alto
lynbrook and cupertino are up there together
