SMF exists and the bus there is free for UC Davis students and stops at UC Davis

You can either take a short hopper flight from SMF to SFO or Amtrak from Davis station to Richmond and ride the red bart line from start to finish to SFO

Some people also ride share but that gets pricey

Tbh tho you may not have to SFO it, SMF has decent domestic reach so there are plenty of other open layover points if you need to fly intl
