#All UCs 🐻🐮🐴🐱🐶🔱🤠🐌 (2023-2024)
1 messages · Page 2 of 1
If you're not in Cali then you have to do it all by hand
Have fun
Describes the admission requirements for out-of-state applicants.
Keep in mind that UCs don't use school level honors for weighted points
*Unless specifically approved by the UCs, but that's only for California residents
Only AP and IB courses are weighted for the purposes of the UC GPA for OOS kids; those are the only courses you should mark as honors on your self-reported transcript
Here's the A-G reference list for AP classes for y'all to figure out what types of classes go in which section.
Find a specific institution's A-G course list. View associated schools within a school district or network. List of online schools with A-G course lists. To search for A-G courses by title or type, use the A-G Course Search.
submitted early bc i dont want to ever look at that portal again 🙏
lol instate but i also did that
does anyone know the average time UC takes to send you applicant portal info
we'll find out lol
no fr their application ui is ugly af
i just got my ucsd portal today but nothing else yet (applied to ucb, ucla, uci as well)
this early? damn
Yea i only got UCSD too. UCI sent my confirmatjon that they received my app but no portal yet
ucsb sent out portals in jan. other ucs were in mid-late november
Oh i see
dont have any senior classes or dont have any grades
💀
i think for senior year you can leave the grades blank
if the latter is what you mean
It lets you say in progress
No you set them as in progress for the first term and planned for the second term
E.g
(this is actually from the CSUs but they essentially have the same grade reporting setup at the UCs)
Tfw the CSUs have a whole ass 50 page application guide with FAQs and the UCs as far as I can tell have nothing
Actually wait no I just found their guide; it's super ugly and less helpful tho
Freshman Application Guide:
The Transfer Guide looks way better than the Freshman Guide, damn
i believe theyll update select info
i cant remember what tho
like would i be able to update an award? It seems like maybe not
i just wanna kinda submit now and get it done with
but i might just wait till the results for the award come out
What up besties now that ea is done this is gonna become a lot more active
omgg
ahdhfjska I have piq drafts but they r so aggressively mid
still 29 days left ?!
same lmao
are ucs local time deadline or pst 😭
I think PST
PST
UC OR BUST!!!
UC OR BUSTTTT
Havent started piqs 🤩
same
wonderful that’s 15 more hours 🤩🤩
HAHA WAIT THAT'S LIKE 12 HOURS GONE FOR ME
U just doxxed urself
it's weighted, depending on your school
if your class rank is high enough and your're in a california public high school you should get it
but i wouldn't worry because it just means ucm autoadmit
If you didn’t get it but you’re rank 1 at your public California high school, would you say that’s a bad sign? 😭
it might mean that your high school doesn't participate in elc
schools have to periodically submit gpa distributions for it to work out
i wouldn't worry about it
the uc's are all about evaluating applicants in the context of their schools and communities
They do
People from my school got it
Ok ty
i'm pretty sure i qualified but received no letter about it
elc is basically a synonym for gpa
so while they say they consider it they really kinda don't
Ah ok that’s relieving to hear it still worked out
I was getting scared when I kept hearing people from my school get it
Me asf
wait they're supposed to email you a letter for ELC? it was in my UC app portal on one of the pages
Oh
like who is the letter from? like is it just UC in general or is it a specific UC campus sending it
it'll come from the uc system
Yeah they send it in a nondescript letter straight from the UC system
Basically just a plain piece of paper saying hey you have good grades!!! Go apply to UC!!!
No specific mention of ELC but you can connect the dots
I see this on my application portal
is this the same as teh letter?
How to see that
should be equivalent
kk
for independent research, do i put that under extracurriculars or educational prep programs?
i saw an example from college essay guy that put it under educational program but i didnt do the research under any programs
ec then
i put mine under ec
ec
educational prep program is something else usually
UC essays are driving me insane
are u guys just recycling ur commonapp essay/supps for your piqs
i just took a small portion of my commonapp essay bc it answered one of the piq prompts well
That’s fine Vince
Is it cuz UCs want straight forward
the format they expect is a little bit different
yes in general they want concrete and straightforward evidence rather than creative writing fluff
are you saying the rule of "showing not telling" does not apply to uc piqs?
Ucla ao’s reading 110k apps be like 👀
i actually wrote my piqs first so i recycled my piqs for supps-
also guys is it fine to make one of my piqs funny/quirky/lighthearted
Yo life would actually be so much easier if every college in the nation took the UCApp
Just get your point across succinctly and authentically tbh
You can do that in any style but just don't waste words or make your writing impenetrable
omg me too, they are so reusable for like why major
I’m reusing my common app but I’m going to cut down a lot
It would look really weird if I didn’t write an essay on what my common app was about so I’m just using it bc I really like it
Everything else I wrote from scratch though
yes, but it's not absolute
you're definitely showing but at the same time you want to tell- you want to reflect on why you included that specific topic in your application
if you just say you did research in a lab and produced cool results: nice, but i already saw that in your activities list
if you say that doing research in the lab kindled your interest in something and it's what you want to explore during your time at uc, that's stronger than just showing
i see
you ban become a reader for ucla
$3 an app
I wanna apply to UCs OOS but ik it's pointless bc I need need-based and maybe merit based aid
Don’t then
I won’t
😭
honestly this is so sad
some carbonated water, water, and bananas?
I hope that person gets the resources they need
sad that they resorted to theft :(
Agreed 😦 Berkeley and Oakland have major issues
for awards/honors, should I use full sentences or incomplete sentences?
incomplete
nooo not the bubbly soda 😭
can I make my piqs humorous
i don’t see why not
No bcuz i read they want them to be straightforward?
true
I’m sure they look for concision
but if you can find a way to incorporate humour into it, that should work
maybe not for every essay though but still
no like can i make one entire piq humorous and quirky and lighthearted
Yes just make sure you actually answer the question
You can do whatever
i wouldn't really go out of my way to be funny but if the story you're telling just happens to be a little funny then don't worry
just don't throw in jokes everywhere
UC Davis be like https://youtu.be/lXKDu6cdXLI?si=DBeallcOFnGsGYik&t=72
http://www.newhot5.com. The New Hot 5, American-based jazz band plays for a herd of cows in Autrans, France. The unedited footage is now uploaded on our channel in two parts. If you want to hear more, check out our other videos of concerts for humans.
The two songs in this video are both in the public domain:
- "When the Saints Go Marching In"...
Wait what does that mean
Like they want you to get straight to the point?
Also for the UCs do I need to be “specific” or just my personal life
I mean, are those mutually exclusive?
You can be specific and talk about your personal life at the same time (which is what you wanna do)
They're Personal Insight Questions after all
Just get to the point yeah
You can write in any style you want tbh but legitimately what you just wanna do is write something that answers the question and does so in a meaningful, succinct way
no I meant like
school specific
No? 💀
Your app gets sent to all of the UCs you apply to
Imagine being UC Berkeley and hearing about how you love the cows so much in UC Merced and UC Davis
LMAO
alright thank you
would you mind taking a quick look at one of my UC essays and tell me if they work?
i can look
trying to figure out which ucs are the horse cat and dog
in the channel name
if anybody needs help looking at essays + questions about apps/ecs for the uc's dm me :) i got into ucla/berkeley/ucsb wl to ucsd/uci
Ohh
Yeah I thought they voted to change or something
🤯
Nope
The student body voted for the cow but alumni and chancellor shot it down
But ASUCD (student government) changed theirs to cow
uc davis lore dropped
Dang
our unofficial mascot is the raccoon
they eat garbage, run from people, and are awake at night, much like ucsd students
LOLL
Dude I literally just saw my first raccoon like last week
gotta love when your piqs are exactly (double) the word count
I wrote IP cuz it says in the sheet where you fill the courses that any grades you don't have can be put as IP
dmed!
hello everyone
im filling out the portal right now for college courses
do yall know what we should put for units if it was like a non-credit precollege program
or do we even need to include those??
asdkaghlsdkfjka
it doesnt let me lol
okok will do tyty
You can check if it’s UC approved
if it wasn't a real college class you might wanna put it under ec's
they have a section for like educational programs
Do most UCs give in state preference
All do
oh okok so I wouldn’t need to put it in colleges attended ?
my counsellor told me to 💀💀
Don't worry
you always should write more than the limit on your first draft
then shave and cut unnecessary words/phrases/sentences
and try to rewrite other sentences in a concise manner
yeahhhh
If I plan on a business degree (economics is fine if there are no business programs) what UCs should I apply to besides Berkeley and LA
I like networking so which ever school has REALLY STRONG community would be chill
UCSD Econ is a pretty good program
we don't have a pure Business Admin major so the closest would be Business Econ( though you can minor in Business and Finance via Rady...)
for reporting high school level courses taken in middle school on the UC app what do we do if we forgot our grades
do we have to report them
Yeah
Call up your middle school
guys
if i reported my F requirement as G
accidentally
how screwed would I be
theoretically
so basically
on the portal
it says im missing an F reqiurement
but my educational history
clearly shows the course
but as a G
i emailed the admissions ppl
but they were basically like
regurgitating the FAQ info
which says to contact them to fix wrong info 💀
is cs in ucb's new school a BA or BS
also any thoughts on the new computing society thingy school?
UCI also offers business admin
And ucsd has an intl business major, which imo is more comparable to business admin, rather than econ
oh yeah that too
Any tips for ranking the ucsd colleges?
lol i ranked revelle lowest cuz the core seemed annoying
but it deos depend on what ur looking for ig
A tool for comparing the Colleges at UC San Diego
Eighth isn’t on here tho
Thanks
Apparently, UC Berkeley has a whole bunch of application tips on their website (and they also have a blog), so I'm leaving this here for y'all as some extra resources as the deadline comes closer and closer
Selection is based on holistic review for first-year applicants, and comprehensive review for Transfers, of all information—both academic and personal—presented in the application. UC Berkeley pioneered the holistic
Very
are any uc schools comsidered better for out of state merit aid than others
no
all of them suck
the only merit aid available to out of state students that i can think of is the regents scholarship, which at $5000 is kind of a drop in the bucket
I’m guessing even less for intl students?
regents is still available to internationals i think
i don't know that they prioritize in state applicants for the scholarship either: but at 2% of admits, you can't count on getting it
The amount depends on the school
Y’all are $20k total
how much is it at ucd 💀
We’re $7.5k/y renewable
bro
It is a $7,500 scholarship, which may be accompanied by a stipend for those with demonstrated financial need. These scholarships are renewable as long as the student maintains a 3.25 grade point average and remains in good academic standing.
Berkeley is:
The Regents' and Chancellor's Scholarship includes a monetary award that is renewable annually for up to a maximum of eight semesters for incoming freshmen and a maximum of four semesters for incoming transfer students. Scholars without financial need receive a $2,500 honorary award per year. Scholars with financial need are awarded a scholarship up to their full need as assessed by the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office.
Plus $1k funding for research
The financial need part tho
Idk what they count
But them meeting need is good
yeah it's super clutch
but it's also really restrictive as you can't accept any external scholarships
True
priority enrollment is probably the best part tbh
being able to make any schedule reality
is there a list of merit scholarships for the UCs instate? or are those not high either/UC is need based solely
it probably depends on the particular uc
only stuff like regents and chancellor's are systemwide
O i see
is it true that oos has a higher acceptance rate than cali residents?
Yes but that’s not because they prefer oos more than california residents
Confounding variables
cuz they pay more
rady?
Rady School of Management
Took me 5 minutes to disprove this lmao
2022:
64.3% acceptance rate for CA residents
48.2% for domestic nonresident
54.9% for internationals
Whoops! CollegeVine is trolling then
I read the article they were talking about an increase in proportion to itself over time not comparison
Fuck the college vine
can u switch from eecs at coe to cs at l&s at berkeley
and also can someone explain how their MET program admission works
from what i read its basically ur primary major is MET and they fix your alternate major to the engineering major ur doing at college of engineering
but number go up give me happy :((
real
Even then recent laws are going to null that
The University of California admitted a record number of California resident first-year students for this fall, extending admission offers to 88,285 of them, a 3.5% increase over last year.
The increases come after this year’s state budget included a 5% increase in UC’s base funding, which Gov. Gavin Newsom and state lawmakers awarded UC with the expectation that the system of nine undergraduate campuses would enroll more California residents.
There’s also:
Under the law, Assembly Bill 1291, the UC system is expected to launch a new Associate Degree for Transfer pilot program at UCLA in the 2026–27 academic year. The program will offer priority admission to students at certain community colleges who complete an associate degree for transfer, or an A.D.T., which guarantees admission to the California State University system, in select majors. The legislation also requires that transfer students who meet UC admissions criteria but don’t get into UCLA will be guaranteed admission to at least one other campus in the system.
The program will be open to students who earn A.D.T.s in at least eight majors and will expand to 12 majors by the 2028–29 academic year, with four of those majors in STEM fields. At that time, four additional UC campuses will be expected to join the program.
Lmao UCSC has a section of their selection process page just for CS 💀
uc nerds
ucsc has a really beautiful campus bcos of nature i’ve heard
i might just apply for kicks
It is
It really is
but i don’t wanna to go to cali
I've been to the Santa Cruz area quite a few times before and it is 😩
so idk
DAMN
So UCSC is nestled in the forests and mountains right next to the town of Santa Cruz - an amazing beach town
Too bad UCSC has a housing crisis so bad that some students unironically have to camp in the forests next to campus
💀
💀💀💀💀💀💀
the campus sounds beautiful
Welcome to UCSC, my final walking video of the UC campus walking tours. This campus is huuuuuge! I could be filming here for weeks and still not get everything =/
We start at the Oakes College, move to Porter College, then Kresge College, Cowell College, Merril College, College Nine, and a ton of other places. The campus is covered in nature, es...
is UC davis considered suburban or rural
idk if i’ll apply to more cali schools tho i don’t wanna study in cali
Rural lmao
lmao
UC Davis has cow plushies for a reason
they literally have farmlands in the campus
then once again I don't like anything that is less than suburban unless it is in NY, CT and MA, sometimes NJ
is UCLA considered in the city
portal astrology 🤨 ?
It’s in Westwood or something
nah
like I have been to LA before but only LAX and a movie theatre in hollywood or smth
yea its close to hollywood

Ucla is really nice though
Westwood is really cool ngl
uclame
so how convenient/inconvenient is it if I wanna go to the city for fun
nearby
ucla should be in compton
gud
You're basically in the only urbanized part of LA lmao
wdym
LA is a lame city man
I thought it is not even in the city
overrated overpriced
Naw that section of LA along the hills going from Santa Monica to Hollywood is the only span of area in LA that actually has buildings taller than one floor
i actually got waitlisted at ucla but turned it down for my ucsd with scholarship
my delulu is that i could've gotten off
😭😭😭
you could have
are u in state
oo
For reference this is an image I took of the area around Westwood, taken from the Getty Museum
All the kids who got offers from UCLA got better offers from the UK like Imperial college or Cambridge
so we had nobody going there for years
imperial college ain’t better than ucla chief
but u can’t really compare the two either
they think it was, so that's what they did
at the same time UK 🤮🤮
but to be fair I'd have a better shot at imperial college than UCLA
lmao the getty
ucla oos or intl is much harder than icl imo
Ngl that's USC
yes Im intl
then the rich people wouldn’t go there 💀
I wish I live in CA but that's just a dream
pain
Im Chinese
don't watch too many day in the life tiktoks
kids like me take 11 AP classes and get into UCSB or smth
naw thats California State Dominguez Hills
every year
wus the problem with ucsb
great school
prestigious too
No, I just wanna a better shot at Berkeley, Stanford or smth
dropped in ranking
real
We had 14 UCSB offers last year, 0 UCLA, 0 Berkeley, 0 UCSD
but we ontop
thats what happenin
some mfs be like: When the UC doesn't end in an LA or B 🤢 🤢 🤢 🤢 🤢
my dad hates cali
People with 4 APs, 1400 sats going to the same place as people with 11 aps and 1530 sats
UC Merced jumping to T60 😍
future gaucho
and sc dropping to 80smth
that hurts man
most people in this server
I really like UCSC but honestly the situation over there is bad enough that I'm not sure if I wanna even apply
When the UC doesn't end in an LA or B 🤢 🤢 🤢 🤢 🤢🤮🤮🤮
personally dont waste ur $
fortunately they've got a very solid physics program battling with ivies so I guess it will be a W
santa cruz is a summer camp
but like is the creative studies college worth a try if I am intl
is it even possible lmao
me and benz on our way to shittalk the other uc's (they don't compare to beautiful csu la jolla)
ong
la jolla lowk isn’t a real city
the nimbys keep trying to make it one
How much harder is CCS physics compared to the normal college of arts and sciences physics in UCSB
NIMBYs on their way to exacerbate all the damn problems in the state be like
nimbys be like "infrastructure and housing are terrible in this country" my brother in christ you caused the terrible infrastructure and housing
i hope ucsd becomes a metropolitan city state with skyscrapers casting shadows on all of their $6 million houses
Not gonna lie I want to go into Urban Planning just 'cause of this shit
I live in LA bro it doesn't get worse than this
i mean ucsd does have that major
shameless plug but we have an urban planning major
lmao
UCSD advertising squad fr
🖖
What
UC app?
I mean u should be typing it in a google doc first
I hope ur not writing directly in the app…
I mean it’s like 150 characters or something right v
Its really short
But u should aim to hit the count
Cuz it’s like 2 sentences
Just don’t overthink it
I thought it was 350
any baddies at uc
stays at the top
start with https://compare.ucsd.edu
also is it harder to get into let’s say certain majors if you apply closer to the Nov 30 deadline?
like as slots fill up
How the uc apps going people
decent
I’m speedrunning so not great
Wait Jayjay are you transferring from nu?
I am also going 31 schools to be fair
including the UCs of course
all of them 💀
currently 10/31
yes she is
wait why
iirc homesick was the main reason
PIQs got me stumped a little
how????
Noooo
Family problems. Nothing to do with NU, it’s a great school
oh alright, hope you get into to a UC!
I’m only applying to ucla haha I’m moving back home
Only for UCs I mean
hoping for a successful transfer 😌😌
5 for UCAS(the bri'sh system), 17 for Common app, 9 for UCs
17 commonapp 💀
do UC's care about personality?
like would it be better to write an essay that shows my personality or write an essay about an ec
according to cds
berkeley puts character/personal qualities as important
so having that come thru ur essays is definitely good
i would try to showcase personality
the activity section shows what you’ve done, the essays show how you think
I’m losing my mind over this application portal. wtf is a “college prep elective” if I took Health or Keyboarding or Accounting what does that fall into? There’s no straight up elective section…or what about psychology or sociology? Do I put that as social science college prep elective? Somebody please explain this to me
Courses specifically approved in the G subject area include those such as political science, economics, geography, humanities, psychology, sociology, anthropology, journalism, speech or debate, computer science, computer programming and others or be interdisciplinary in nature, drawing knowledge from two or more fields.
Psych and Sociology go in
Health and keyboarding no
Keep in mind your G requirement can be filled by taking a class in A-F subjects more than the required years
One year of college-preparatory coursework required, chosen from: courses approved specifically in the elective (G) subject area, or courses approved in the A-F subject areas beyond those used to satisfy the requirements of the A-F subjects.
Physics BA(SED)
The Physics major is designed to give the student a broad and thorough understanding of the fundamentals of physics. Therefore, the emphasis is on this general understanding rather than on specialized skills, although some specialized courses are among the options open to the student. Those considering a physics major are urged to consult a departmental adviser early, in order to discuss the content of the major and also the opportunities after graduation. Recent graduates have entered graduate work in a number of scientific fields, and others have gone on to jobs in academic, industrial, and government laboratories.
This is the course description
Huh, Berkeley doesn't offer a B.S Physics degree
UCLA has both a BS and BA though
Physics BA:
The Physics BA major is intended to provide students with a strong background in physics, yet allow students flexibility to study other fields as well. It should be of particular interest to students who want to double major or who want to teach science. Students who intend to continue work toward the PhD in Physics are advised to pursue the Physics BS.
Physics BS:
The Physics BS major should be pursued if students intend to continue toward the PhD in Physics.
TL;DR BA has a focus on a liberal arts education and interdisciplinary studies while BS is for if you really wanna go to grad school
To be fair obviously I wanna go to grad school but I also like Berkeley
so what are they going with this
so where do I put them? or do I not put them into my uc app
You don't need to put them, but if you do want to, put them in your Activities list
The UC App's activities section specifically lets you input non A-G Courses
huh interesting i didn't know that
should I stick all my electives into one? or how
okay I gotchu thank you so much
but in the colleges attended section I did do an Argument and Reasoning class, what is that consdiered?
¯_(ツ)_/¯
Gosh first gen and rural town with counselors that have no idea how to apply to half the schools I want to go to...UGUOISOIU. Anyway thanks I'll try to figure some of this stuff out
That sounds like an other
English could be a stretch depending on how they define it
Chloe do you know if it’s like a dealbreaker to do most of your ucla major prep spring before transfer
Idk
How large exactly is ucsd
ppl literally complaining their classes are too far from each other
so how far exactly is Muir or 6th from the phys building
around 30 min walk from one end to the other according to google maps
u can prob check specifically for these
I'm just starting this application anyone has any guides?
I need help on the activities section
Damn bro
Good luck
Physics building is in Muir
Which is also very close to 6th
wdym
Nothing
skull
me when I spend an hour ranking the colleges when im def not getting in
How much do you all think very very good ecs/awards help with uc transfer?
my UC gpa sucks cause I can’t take APs in 10th
I mean they’ll take the context of your hs into account
Your school doesn't offer them for 10th or you couldn't for other reasons
Explain that to the UCs on your app
Which UCs r u aiming for? That might be out of reach for ucla/berkeley but I’d still think you’re in play for the rest
They're very understanding of those kinds of things IF YOU TELL THEM
It's about the average GPA of UC Riverside
3.85 doesn't knock you out of the running, especially if you have other extenuating circumstances that can explain some of your grades
Plus there's the other sections of the app
I’ve had 2 friends get into UCSD and 3 into UCI with sub-4.0 UC gpas. It’s tough but def possible with strong essays and ecs
For sure
One of those people who got into ucsd and UCI had a sub-3.7 UC Gpa. Obviously that’s just one person but don’t lose hope!
Reminds me of the trend that UC Irvine just seems to hate my school
We have a higher admit rate for Berkeley than Irvine
I have no idea why

Tfw holistic admissions is in fact holistic
Oh ya she def deserved it, glad they were holistic
It’s much less holistic for transfers which sucks for me
Really though @nova bridge just focus on making the rest of your app as strong as it can be, and explain your circumstances; in essence, be your own advocate
The UCs have no LORs or interviews, so your app is much more in your control than say like on the common app
You really, really need to be your own advocate
The difference between holistic and non-holistic is always pretty funny for UCs and the CSUs
Rejected SDSU CS but accepted Berkeley EECS.jpg
It’s very bad for me
I’m applying as a freshman from an oos private without grade inflation to be a junior in one of the most competitive non-stem majors
Ouch
Ya 🤪
We manifestin' that UCLA acceptance tho
Ty!! Where r u hoping for? Wishing you the best as well
baddies
If I get accepted it’ll be because they take mercy on me after seeing my ecs/awards
We gon' be self-advocates fr 😳
Gotta emphasize that in your app
UCLA honestly
I keep debating if I should include hs awards. I’m including both college and hs ecs + college awards … but I kinda wanna put a couple hs, especially being val. I think I will lowkey
Slay
UCLA ust vibes so much better than Berkeley + Food + Housing is guaranteed + Still amazing academics
I know so many people there and they love it for the most part
I’m only applying to ucla, usc and my local csu
And maybe Pomona/CMC if I feel like I can handle the commute
Local CSU really do be carryin' tho
Ya but I’m pretty confident I’ll be a usc accept
It’s a specialized program
That I am very accomplished in
The claremont colleges are so cute but ngl the area around them is 🗿
Facts
I live in one of the valleys of LA it really does suck 😭
Not to mention I’m currently at the best program in the country for it
Same!!
100F+ summers and just generally goofy area
Wait can I dm I think we’re from a similar area
Northwestern, no? In journalism? Yeah I've read an entire article about one of QB's matched kids and the journalism program
Yup!
Sounds super cool
Sure but I might be late to reply
No worries
i applied to all but Merced, la was just a fuck it we ball thing and Berkeley is close by
I would love to go to San Diego or Davis or Irvine
Gl!!
I mentioned it
Only had like 13/20 activities though
My piqs were really good im happy abt 5hose
That’s plenty if they’re good
Don’t need to fill it I don’t think
My perpetual inner battle is the ec section
Cause I shouldn’t put too many hs
But I’ve been in college for 4 months
Slay
anyone has a guide on completing the UC app
What kind of guide
does the first major you list on UC application lower your chances for your second major if you don't get the first one
Lol I'm gonna have like 8 total 💀
Throughout all of HS I actively rebuffed my mom when she nagged me to participate in more clubs and whatnot
Quality > Quantity fr
Every campus has their own policy
ooh thanks where can i find more info on that?
Dig around on their websites cause nobody has gotten the idea to actually bring that info together 😭
Here's UCLA's statement:
Declaring a Major
You can declare a major, or apply as undeclared, on your UC application form. For freshmen applying to a major in the College, your choice of major will neither help nor hurt your prospects for admission. In fact, a large number of freshman applicants apply as undeclared. The UC application allows you to choose an alternate major, but we only guarantee the review of first-choice majors.
This is a general pdf by the UCs tho
Like how to write the activities essays an stuff
i mean just explain what you did within each activity
it can be brief
quick q: do I put these classes on my UC academic history? Health Education/Crafts/Drama/Ethics/Home Economics
are they in the report card
if no then no
just get a copy if you don't have one, then fill accordingly
but yeah I don't even know how the transcript works
like they force us to fill out our 10~12th grade classes in 9, 11, 12 for some reason because of the way the report card is made
I hate the UC system so much
I finished writing an ec
and it just quit
now I have to rewrite it all over again
wish it would save like the Common app does
why not write it externally and just copy paste?
yes
Sixth
I’m pretty sure you put it
You do put it
Do you have 8th grade geometry?
Three years of college-preparatory mathematics that include the topics covered in elementary and advanced algebra and two- and three-dimensional geometry. A geometry course or an integrated math course with a sufficient amount of geometry content must be completed. Approved integrated math courses may be used to fulfill part or all of this requirement, as may math courses taken in the seventh and eighth grades if the high school accepts them as equivalent to its own courses; also acceptable are courses that address the previously mentioned content areas and include or integrate probability, statistics or trigonometry. Courses intended for 11th and/or 12th grade levels may satisfy the required third year or recommended fourth year of the subject requirement if approved as an advanced math course.
NOTE: All students must complete a geometry course or integrated math with geometry content. One transferable college course will not satisfy the full three-year math requirement.
The UCs also look at the "Number of, content of and performance in academic courses beyond the minimum A-G requirements."
I.e they look at the years you take beyond the minimum - and 7th and 8th grade math courses count for that (especially important for the CSUs iirc)
TL;DR just put them on
is the cs degree (not eecs) at ucb an arts degree?
Yes
Not Sure Which Program is Right for You?
There is no difference in the computer science course content between the EECS and CS Majors-- the difference is what other subjects you'd like to study.
If you prefer greater flexibility in your coursework, or have an interest double-majoring, then the CS Major might be a good choice. There is greater opportunity to explore other departments, such as economics, statistics, business, and music.
If you have an interest in electrical engineering, or have and interest in double-majoring in another engineering major, the EECS Major may be better suited for you.

For the activities description can I put the leadership role in the same slot as the the name of the activity?

UC Apps due date is <t:1701417540:F> in your local time
11 days, 14 hours and 6 minutes until the due date
thats what im doing yea
if I took a decent amount of electives in Highschool and I required to report them in my activities and awards section? or am I allowed to leave them out
No you don't have to
But why leave them out?
Depending on what you took and what you learned from them they could be pretty beneficial to your app
I have a decent amount of extracurriculars so I feel like they might be better than "Health class" haha
if im not an intl student should i submit my sat reading/writing score in the 'english language proficiency' section? is there any harm in doing so?
If you’ve completed all your secondary school/high school in a country where English is not the language of instruction, you can demonstrate proficiency by taking one of these exams no later than December of your final year of high school/secondary school and earning the required scores:
- Score 24 or higher on the ACT English Language Arts (ELA)
- Score 31 or higher on Writing and Language in the SAT
- Score 3, 4 or 5 on the AP examination in English Language and Composition, or English Literature and Composition
- Score 6 or 7 on an IB Standard Level examination in English (Language A only)
- Score 5, 6 or 7 on an IB Higher Level examination in English (Language A only)
- Score 6.5 or higher on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)* examination:
- Internet-based test (iBT) or iBT Home Edition or iBT Paper Edition: Minimum score of 80 or better
- Duolingo English Test (DET): Minimum score of 115
Please note: UC does not accept MyBest TOEFL; only the highest composite score from a single sitting is allowed. Also, the digital SAT Reading and Writing section score has not been approved to meet English language proficiency.
Are you sure? Because it says leadership below
where
i checked my courses and i only have like A-E courses. is that fine or do i need all A-G?
You need to have an art course to apply
I believe that’s f
I don’t remember what g is
what if it wasn't offered at my school?
Oh g is just any other elective like psych, geography, etc
Your school has no visual or performing arts classes?
its not on my transcript
and actually to think about it
Wdym
we have arts classes only till 10th grade
but it was cancelled for us due to covid
so in high school i took no arts classes at all
You need to contact your counselor and ask then bc the art is non negotiable
My cousin from canada wanted to apply and she couldn’t bc of it
You just need to be enrolled in 1 that’s equivalent to a year
we literally werent given the opportunity to
ok i got the G requirement down now to figure out about the F
You should talk to your counselor
Reach out to ucs admissions
They’re pretty helpful
This might be something you just need to add in additional info
alright thank you
also there are a bunch of electives on my report card that aren't on my transcript. since ucs dont take transcripts, should i add all those to my grades?
That goes in the activities section
Non A-G courses go there
alongside awards, etc.
The UC Activities section is a catch-all for all that stuff
Sometimes even the most creative, focused and intellectually passionate students aren't able to fulfill our admission requirements. Even these students have a chance to attend UC.
Some students are home-schooled and don't have transcripts. Others have life circumstances that have prevented them living up to their promise. The list is endless. If you believe you have the ability and potential to succeed at UC, you could be considered for admission by exception.
Each UC campus can offer admission to a few students who do not meet all of the A-G course requirements or minimum GPA requirements. You may use the personal insight questions or additional comments section of the admission application to explain your unique story.
Describes the process for gaining admission to the UC system if the applicant does not fulfill the admission requirements.
so stuff like physical ed and shit goes there?
Not PE but everything else yes
alright thank you
where does PE go lol
ohhh
Also found this Reddit post
is this true? found this post from 5 years ago lol
Just email UC admissions
I’ve emailed them before and they’re really helpful
You can also call
yeah im first gonna hunt down my 9/10 report cards to see if i have art/dance courses on them. if not ill email
for extracurricular activities
For anyone that has applied/applying did you put the leadership role in the title or description?
YALL WHAT IF I DIDNT LIST A-G COURSES IN MY APP!!! I have an AP Art History class but put it as a G instead of an F am I an auto reject 😪😪😪
help pls
I’m putting them in the title for ecs
Idk what you’re asking. Did you not list AP art history, or did you list it incorrectly?
can you send a screenshot of where it gives the extra box for position? do you mean the "what did you do" box?
There isn’t an extra box. It’s the what did you do
You know how you need like the A-F courses that you categorize with your grades? I have Art History but I put it in the wrong category so now I have no Visual Arts credit which is required to get into the schools
Is this correct
oh that
can you share an example of what you did?
Co President @ MUN sounds better
should i put co president of Model Un?
ok ty
ok ty
Just realized I only have 4 things that are ec category on uc app lol
Most are awards/work experience/volunteer
that seems completely normal
I’m a transfer so I have 5 years of stuff, so yes
But don’t let that make you think you need to get even close to 20
I might be wrong, but are you supposed to put your hs stats if you're a transfer?
I’m only putting a few things from hs. You don’t put hs stats, but you’re allowed to put hs ecs. They just want you to focus on college
I see
I’m only putting newspaper editor in chief, valedictorian, nhs prez and two awards from hs. Everything else is college
Well by college, summer after 12th onward
I got a lot of awards summer after 12th so let’s hope they’re fine with that lol
Did you apply to ucs after hs or no
I am applying to the UCs as a transfer. I did not apply in hs due to ED’ing to northwestern medill
sheeesh
kinda wish I applied after hs even tho I wouldn’t have gone because holy crap I hate this app and I wish I knew what I was doing
how much do UCSB look at the college of creative studies
like how hard is it
I am planning on doing the CCS Physics as 1st major and college of letters and sciences physics as 2nd major
is this like unlikely or something
idk how spectacular the average ccs applicant is
I HATE THE CCS APPLICATION
IT DOESN'T LET ME REMOVE DUPLICATES OF THE SAME FILE AND IT DOESN'T LET ME GO BACK TO INCORRECTLY-ENTERED AP GRADES
and it doesn't even let me withdraw it
I mean it does
but it does nothing
wow
I'm screwed!
can I do anything about this pleaseeeeeee?
bro nobody responded all night long?
They probably don’t know
I’d email their creative studies department
okay
now I am trying to find the email to the ucsb ccs department admissions
because apparently it is a bug that could be fixed
(but in all seriousness, this is more like a loss of features, they didn't even have a "remove files" or "review information" button installed
is this right
I guess I found it at the bottom of the website but it sounds too meta to be the actual one
Probably
How much does order of ECs matter?
Order doesn’t make a huge difference
Don’t overthink it
i wonder if they even read all 20 activities
just put the most significant one at the top
Is it a red flag if I have no activities freshman year but went crazy 10-12? covid really sucked
No
Me with no school activities from 9-10 because of COVID and Extenuating circumstances fr
Hobbies really do be carryin' that EC list tho
Has anyone already sent in their app to UCs?
I haven’t even done my PIQs 😭
I should’ve said I learned communication skills and how to give and receive feedback through playing valorant 💀💀
i completed mine a while ago
I did mine like a week ago
do the AOs read every single activity
UCs submitted!!!!
For those that have submitted, did you hear back from any?
That they were received? And if you received portal info?
i got my UCB and UCSD portals 2 days after i submitted & my UCI portal 2.5 weeks after i submitted
still havent gotten my UCLA portal
i submitted end of october btw
uc raverside amirite

god i hate myself
for uc scholarships, there's this checkbox:
Member of high school character-building youth group, especially Boys Club of America
would FIRST Robotics count, or is it just boys/girls club-esque things? tysm
wouldn't this be like eagle scout or something
idk
It’s so true tho
The only thing we have to do.
Is raving
Iirc you select your campuses first and then select your major by campus
gotchu ty! the portal looks different than when i looked before, did they change it? i can't find a campus selection thing, maybe i'm on the wrong site
i love the uc app logging me out after 1 minute of inactivity bye bye progress 🥳
I'm still waiting to hear back on UCLA for portal.
yeah idt UCLA has sent out their portal yet
Write on a Google doc
this is due 1/5 right?
^ can anyone pls send the app portal link for UC? I’m scared I’m in the wrong place to start, no option to pick campuses
https://apply.universityofcalifornia.edu/my-application/login then go to your acc and go to campuses & majors section
My UC Application
ty🫶🫶
dude...
I only knew I was transferring as of a week ago
Its not that deep the piqs are easy to write
Ya I’ll be fine (I hope)
Although I reckon it’s be more competitive for transfers because they are evaluated differently ? Not sure
UCs are significantly easier for transfers than first years, if you transfer from a California cc
Also, unfortunately, much less holistic for transfers
And there's guaranteed transfer programs too 😳
I can’t do one tho cause of the time frame
California CC systems to UC pipeline fr
Yuss
Lol
I was ELC
Didn’t apply to UCs tho
ED moment
Indeed
Me to the UCs when QB match day comes around fr
Wait no the UC deadline is a day before match day
😭
Istg if I pay $500 in UC and CSU application fees and then get into a binding QB partner the day after I'm gonna lose it
My friend Ed’d to washu and didn’t withdraw UCs for fun just to see how he did 💀
💀
fee waivers brah
I didn’t apply then withdraw, I just didn’t apply 💀
They limit the waivers to four campuses 😔
I'm paranoid enough to apply to more campuses than the 4
Did you live in California?
I applied to 7 UCs (minus river and merced) but tbh no point in applying to more than 4 cals bro you defo getting into at least one
What major
Which was more of a problem first time around than it is now, since now proximity matters more than anything
Journalism (no UCI literary journalism doesn’t count)
English has nothing to do with journalism but ima major in poli sci (closest major to journalism)
Ya I mean I’m a working professional journalist
So I’m not too worried
It’s more just that no bachelors degree will limit me significantly
Which ones?
Ya the cal states are a numbers game
Just have the right a-g classes and gpa and you’re in
Rejected SJSU CS but accepted Berkeley EECS be like
lol
Berkeley, LA, Davis, and Irvine are the four that offer my major, but two of those are hard af to get into, I'm ambivalent about Davis, and Irvine hates my school for whatever reason 😭
Ah okay
If Irvine was commutable I’d apply
I’d get in but no way am I driving 2 hours each way
Those four aren't bad but like, man applying to just those four would be basically be spinning a roulette wheel 😭
Ah ya
Yeah one of the kids who got into UC Irvine from my school went into our English class to give a lil' presentation
And she said that she couldn't be bothered to commute that far lmao
She moved to Irvine instead
We're basically on the opposite side of the L.A metro area from Irvine 💀
UCLA is very commutable from here if not for a bit of suffering on the 101
But yeah
It's UCLA 💀
If they are holistic enough then I’ll get in
Transfer is a whole different ball game
They basically exclusively look at gpa and what major prep classes you’ve taken
Which will destroy me
Not gpa, the classes
I swear every life sciences applicant has done research like it seems to be the norm today but the idea of a highschooler doing undergrad/grad level research and publication is nuts
seems nuts imo
Tbf they could just be doing rudimentary work around the lab and spicing up the description on their app
My definition of research is submitting a freedom of information act request, getting a passive aggressive response, and looking through hundreds of pages of public records… ahh the good life
I know someone in my school who did just that 💀
Also got that position through nepo
Not like academic research tho
I’ll never do academic research
Ngl the growing popularity of research as THE college EC is kinda devaluing the value of research
What do you even do
Me? Gaslight, gatekeep, girlboss
😭 i meant for research but you go girl !!
I know lol
Usually do basic stuff around the lab (e.g spreadsheet stuff or whatever)
Some kids legitimately do some amazing research
But with the influx of kids doing research the field's just gotten muddy
is research just science 😭 sorry idk anything about it
Propublica omg
Dream pub
That one company that makes you pay 2k to do research
I love propublica their reporters r super friendly and smart
my endless finishing touches have been completed 🥳
what now

Hey be nice
Me who's trying for UCI
Me who's only applying to exactly those 4
why
QB please deliver me from this madness
yeah qb day being one day after uc apps is brutal
If you withdraw your application you won't get the fees back right
So many applicants + PIQs are weird + I have goofy ECs that I don't know will appeal to UC AOs + they're the most important apps fot me since I'm instate
What goofy ecs lol
Also worst case just go to merced ez
Nope
All my ecs are just hobbies man
also you're probs getting into mit so

nothing wrong about that
Applying sideways fr
There's just so many important dates coming up it's aaaaaa
UCs are my most important app + QB anxiety

just over a week and this madness will be over
We gettin' that chill december
We prayin'
ohhhh okay makes sense... good luck 💪
Ty, you too!
does the order you list your extracurricular activities matter for UC App?
is it true that the UC piqs should be as direct as possible compared to other typical supps?
They’re like you’re talking in an interview
So yeah kinda
also if I'm correct the UCs don't ask or letters of rec? Only if they email you later?
wait so no fun intros...
Not really no
wait so If I am asked for an augmented review that is a good sign?
It means you’re in consideration but not receiving it doesn’t mean you’re not in consideration
Plenty of people get in without it
And some people get it and don’t get in
i gotchu
how about this
Same as common app
