#REA Harvard Vs ED Hopkins

i don't know the difference
Jhu Ed has a much higher acceptance rate that isn’t inflated with legacies and all too
I would recommend researching because you may find one appeals to you more than the other
Yeah jhu doesnt care abt legacy right?
They don’t
^ I thought jhu was the 100% the school for me, I was so ready to Ed, and then I researched and realized the culture was not for me
My friend reallt wants me to do ed to hopkins since theyre one of if not the top bme and we both are gonna have a big transition going from alabama to up north
Do you want to Ed to Hopkins?
How would i do research on the culture
Yes but it makes me nervous because i think i like harvard more
Website, read the fiske guide, Reddit, niche, etc
and if i got accepted to harvard after being bound it would be super disappointing
I’d research more then
You would have to rescind your app if you got into Ed jhu
learn the difference before rea/ed
Im looking up "SCHOOL culture reddit" for all my top schools rn
i want one that's gonna academically challenge me alot but not make me absolutely miserable
Reddit is undoubtedly going to be biased so don’t take it word for word
You should also reach out to current students there
Jhu is pretty tough
yeah im just tryna get a general idea of pros and cons
It’s got a cutthroat culture regardless of what they say
obviously every school is gonna have negatives
Fs
If you’re going thinking about premed, jhu is great but be prepared for a tough environment
Yeah i wanna do phd/md program
with bme
Idk about harvard but jhu is not a really social school and when I toured, it was obvious that they either study or do ecs majority do the time
Thats a main reason im thinking abt jhu is that its basically known for medicine
Gl my dad has a lot of students that are in md/PhD programs
They’re really hard to get into
yeah
Can you handle the culture there?
What do you want to get an md phd in?
bme
Or biotech
either way
Ah ok
What do you plan to do with the degree?
In terms of medicine and research
i really dont know. i want to do research in genetics and do cell/gene engineering or whatever its called, i cant think of the name rn. im not very good socially so working in an actual hospital i wouldnt have good bedside manners, but i still want to improve humanity through medicine and science
So I was talking to an md/phd recently and what he highly recommends if you want to go that route is the combine what you do in both places
wdym
You won’t be able to spend enough time at the hospital, nor the lab, so it can really help to have your work be similar
Ah
So for example, he works in geriatrics and his research is focused around old age stuff (I don’t remember exactly)
Why do you want to do an md phd instead of just an md or just PhD?
I’m just curious it’s ok if you don’t know why
Really i just want to cover my bases, theres always a chance my plans will change. Its just something ive wanted to do for awhile
I was just wondering, all good. It sounds a lot like you’re more interested in the phd side, so I was just curious
But back to what you were asking, I would research both school’s cultures immensely before deciding
If you’re a strong applicant, Jhu Ed could help you a lot, but just research whether the school would also be a good fit for you
