Hey all! I went from having not enough schools to having far too many. My stats are 4.0 UW and 1590 SAT. I want to major in public health or something along those lines (not all schools offer it as an undergrad major). East Coast, California, urban preferred.

My list so far:
Stanford
Harvard
Yale
Princeton
JHU
Penn
Brown
Cornell
Duke
Vanderbilt
Barnard
Georgetown
UToronto
UMich
Pomona
George Washington
UMiami
UFlorida (state school)
UMaryland
Columbia
Caltech
NYU

I know most of these are reaches, but my safeties (GW and UToronto) are two I feel that I can get into due to my demonstrated interest & stats. I also like both of these schools and would be fine attending. So please don’t suggest any new schools, instead help me cut this list Thank you so much!

So you wanna do med in the future?

#

I would prolly cut caltech

#

i'm not sure if UToronto is a safety anymore, they keeping getting more and more applicants with a lower acceptance rate as a result

#

perhaps consider if you want west coast or east coast more and cut schools from the coast you least favor

#

cornell is not an urban atmosphere

#

hope that helps!

#

GW I’m also not sure is a safety

#

The only schools with below 80% that I would call a safety depend on ur school relationships

#

So check like naviance if you have it

yeah if you want an urban atmosphere, i would suggest cutting stanford, princeton, cornell, pomona, duke, yale etc. and caltech bc you wanna go to med school. if you were looking for an urban atmosphere, curious why you'd put those schools on your list? they also dont have much in common besides solid undergrad programs. @fringe current

#

i'd consider adding some other safeties too (like uroch!) just in case u toronto doesnt work out

lone wren
#

Uroch is ehhhh sort of urban

#

Also I don’t think you can count uroch as a safety unless your school feeds

full pumice
#

perhaps mcgill if you like utoronto?

lone wren
#

Uroch is as urban as Cornell basically lmao

#

Rochester is a kinda dead city

tbh if your preferences are that loose, just scroll through a ranking and remove the colleges ranked lower

#

i feel like you have way too many reaches

lone wren
#

At this point the t20s are all good

#

13 isn’t that much better than 20

#

You should judge by location, opportunity, etc.

wary loom
#

I don't mean 13 vs. 20 I mean like

#

T20 vs. 62

wary loom
#

Except east coast/california which is where 90% of good colleges are anyways

lone wren
#

Bruh

#

Your an NPC if you actually like the location of every college on that list

wary loom
#

It's not my list

lone wren
wary loom
#

If they have more specific preferences on location then I'd provide more but I'm not gonna narrow it down based on my own criteria if that's not what they want

lone wren
#

I’m not telling you to narrow it down

#

I’m just saying it’s a bad idea to narrow down by prestige

wary loom
#

Agreed

#

I think they should narrow down based on how good the public health program is

lone wren
#

I’m telling you it really doesn’t matter for a lot of those schools they’re all top programs

wary loom
#

Look, I'm tryna help, not argue :) - if they have more narrow criteria I'm happy to rule out more colleges. But pretty much all of those fit their criteria, so they should research them individually more and see which ones they like

lone wren
#

😭

Then apply to hose

lone wren
#

Saying to do it by ranking

wary loom
#

This isn't really something we can help with

wary loom
#

I agree that a lot of those are top programs

#

But some of them aren't

#

And if they have that big of a list, I would remove those

lone wren
#

Have you considered the 62 ranked one might be a target instead of a reach

#

You can’t just cut all targets out cause they have worse programs

wary loom
#

😭

#

If it matters that much then sorry I'll rescind my statement

#

You don't have to cut purely on rankings, it was just a suggestion. But my main recommendation is to research each college individually and see how you like it. All these colleges fit your criteria well, so unless you have further preferences that's my suggestion.

but some schools with like 25% plus I'd also put in target with a note
