Im going to be a senior and i’m starting to look into where i should apply..
My mom went to villanova and dad went to smu so i have legacy for both of them

Im hoping to find more targets/reachs.. preferably on the east coast or midwest

Location/Region: im from california. I want to end up on the east coast so im hoping to find more schools over there.. i also like midwest as i have a ton of family in chicago.

Major: finance

GPA/Test Scores: i have a 4.2 w, 3.6 uw gpa.. 31 act.. im not that great of a student

Size: i dont have much of a preferance with size

Costs: my parents are planning to help me pay for college so im not too worried about the cost

Im currently looking at: uw madison, ucsb, uc davis, cu boulder, lehigh, smu, and villanova

Midwest: UMich

I think umich and bu are a bit unrealistic for me

acoustic dirge
#

yeah, UMich might be more of a reach

bro you are a good student

#

Don’t be fooled by all of the 4.0’s on here 3.6 is amazing too 😊

#

They’re reaches but not so unrealistic that it isn’t worth applying

#

The process can be a random shit show. All it takes is a couple people in good moods.

Idk im not too sure yet

#

also look into UNC Chapel Hill and Boston College for reaches, they also have great finance programs and have about the same acceptance rate as UMich

#

UT Austin might also be worth a look if you are okay with staying farther from the east coast

smoky mason
#

I feel like these are all reaches for me tbh

#

Any good targets?

#

Or safeties

Ohio State! Case Western for reach, University of Minnesota, Indiana University (very competitive for business fields but it's because it's good for business fields), Purdue, UIUC, Loyola Chicago, University of Pittsburgh.

George Washington University, American University, Penn State, Marquette, Stevens Institue of Technology, and Drexel.

Finance isnt too common of an undergrad major so you'll have to fact check if these schools have it as a major/minor/subspecialization in Business

personally I would def toss in some apps to some super reaches as well

#

Since thats just how I roll

#

im talking PENN

#

Harvard

#

Northwestern and UChicago near Chicago

#

Bunch of other ivies

#

u never know

smoky mason
#

Lol my stats are nowhere near these schools 😭

cunning sorrel
#

I mean 3.6 aint that bad

acoustic dirge
# cunning sorrel personally I would def toss in some apps to some super reaches as well

like there is a difference between reaches & unlikely. like idk how good ur ECs r or how compeitive ur school is but if u don't feel like u can get in & don't want to reach then don't. Like u have to spend time curating those essays & pay for each application, and if it's somewhere where u feel like the chance is so small effort isn't worth it, then don't. Also, u don't want to overmatch, and go to a school that's overly competitive and end up struggling when u could be doing well & be happier at a less "prestigious" school

cunning sorrel
#

Just do the math real quick

#

Let's say writing the supplements takes 6 hours and costs 80 bucks and you have a 1% shot

#

Would you pay $8000 and 600 hours to go to penn or Harvard or whatever

#

Adjust the numbers as you see fit

cunning sorrel
#

But that's just how I am

#

Maybe to you it isn't worth it which is perfectly reasonable

acoustic dirge
#

honestly for me essays take way longer 😭 and I won't apply to school just for prestige bc a lot of those Ivy+s aren't great fit for me. It just depends on person & their priorities

cunning sorrel
#

You're right, but finance is an industry that definitely does care about prestige and he did ask for reaches so if I were him I'd shoot my shot hardcore

#

Sure if he has a particular disliking for say Cornell, then don't apply

#

But honestly I think most high achieving students would be happy at most ivy+ schools

cunning sorrel
#

And yeah as far as the essays go

cunning sorrel
#

Plug in your own number for the supps

#

Maybe it actually would cost 1500 hours, not 600, or something

#

I think not applying to any ivy+ is fine but I'd def consider it still

acoustic dirge
#

yeah, maybe apply to few of ur favorites. def consider it & whehter u apply or not depends on ur priorities

smoky mason
#

I mean my ecs are alright but my school is very competetive and there are way more kids in my classes who still couldnt get into ivys yet have better stats than me

#

I really dont think anyone is getting into an ivy with a 3.6 uw and 4.2 w while my school offers like 20 aps and i only took 6 by senior year 😭😭

#

And only like a 31 on the act

#

Its just not gonna happen to be realistic

acoustic dirge
#

yeah then don't worry about it, ivys are definitely not the only path

cunning sorrel
#

Just out of curiosity

#

How is your weighted 0.6 higher than your UW with only 6 aps

#

I took 5 and mine is like 4.25 with a 4.0 UW
