#Duke vs Rice

But in terms of culture, it seems like Rice is your favorite. If you don’t like the idea of frats, sports, or party culture, than you’ll feel uncomfortable and frankly even a bit isolated at Duke.
I think Rice has everything you are looking for in both culture in academics, and i think it’s the best choice for you
Also, I’m sure your mom can appreciate you going to one of the best research schools in the planet, I wouldn’t worry too much about prestige between these two
I definitely see myself at Rice more, but that could also be because I know so much more about Rice, as I was accepted much earlier. And while Rice feels more "right", a school like Duke is still hard to turn down at the end of the day. If I turn down Duke and don't fit in at Rice, that's a decision I'll regret for the rest of my life. Idk I guess I'll have two more days to think about it. Anyway, thanks so much for the reply!
Tough decision! I’d research Duke more and then decide!
I agree with you that Rice might be slightly more regionalized than Duke, but not by a ton like shrub said
In terms of prestige this is the way I’d think about it
Future employers will know how cracked Rice is while the layperson won’t
If wowing lay people in the future by name dropping your Alma Mater is even slightly important to you (you know those I went to Harvard types) then Duke is the move
Unless you’re into that- which btw it’s perfectly okay to be into that, people shouldn’t judge you if you are- then Duke isn’t necessarily more prestigious than rice
Still research Duke though because you might decide that you like Duke better!
I won't lie that's definitely a perk of choosing Duke, but if it were just that, then it wouldn't be enough for me to choose it over Rice. What do you think about graduate placements for Rice, especially since Duke seems to have more variety when it comes to research?
Graduate placements in terms of grad schools is gonna be about level if you do equally well at both, which I’m sure you will. If one school was way more prestigious than the other, it would have better grad placements, but that isn’t the case here
Duke’s grad placement in terms of the job market might be marginally better because, as you pointed out, it is more national and less regional, but rice is also nationally known too, so again just slightly better
Research should also be about level because both have huge endowment per capitas even though Duke might have a bigger endowment
Ok, thank you!
Endowment isn’t a huge thing anyway, most schools just hoard their endowments
Very true too!
did u get off rice's waitlist?
