U might wanna look into UCSD Math-CS
I'll look into that
is Umass cs good or bad, I'm honeslty confused some ppl say its a safety some ppl say its a t25 or t20 for cs like is it well known for cs?
One place below Purdue/UMD. Pretty solid option
^^
rough tiers are:
cmu, mit, berk, stanford
uiuc, gt, umich, cornell
purdue, wisconsin, umd
umass amherst, virginia tech
for some comparison
Put in UT Austin and UW seattle in tier 2 too
Ucsd is a very good data science school though
In terms of comparing Amherst CS to UCSD Data Science, UCSD is better, that's what I would say
I thought UIUC was tier 1 ngl
Imo it should be
I'm looking to major in cs tho thats another prob
Ik ucsd is amazing for data science but want to transfer to cs
how far off is umass from purdue, wisconsin, and umd and is umass or vt better for cs cuz i do have vt as another back up option
Fo reference- according the US News (one of the more accurate sources) UMASS Amherst Computer Science is ranked 24th. UCSD is ranked 12th. So ranking wise- UCSD is known to have a rigorous and well known computer science/engineering program.
Of course, rankings are not everything. Given this, I am sure you will be able to succeed at either school, so I would definitely thing about location/campus culture as it is very different across these two schools. Also, I know you mentioned liking the Boston scene so I just wanted to let you know UMass Amherst is a 2hr car ride, and I have heard from several students the campus can be 'isolating' without a car.
I hope that helps!
OP just meant that it is ranked like one point below mit/Stanny etc
Oh yeah
UW is tier 1 bro
yeah switching to cs is impossible at sd
but even as a data science major youd still get a lot of other opportunities that are related to cs (supercomputer center, research opportunities, hdsi itself, etc)
