Interests: CS, medicine, Artificial intelligence, astronomy (more of a hobby tho)
I’m interested in healthcare tech or something that combines technology and medicine.
Also the developing role that robots and Ai will play into these fields.
If I were to do med school I’d want to be a radiologist but I’m unsure if I want to commit to med school right now

Major: CS (also interested in medicine, considering trying premed track although CS + premed would be very hellish)
Minor: neuroscience (maybe)

Weather: I’m from Chicago so cold weather is a non-issue

Note: I also have Gatech CS (49k)
Emory CS ($83k without loans, would probably do a neuro sciencemajor, CS minor), Rice Neuroscience, BU BME (but I would have to pay at least 75k for these schools)

UIUC pros:

- Instate & half the cost of UMich (35k vs 70k); parents can comfortably afford both but still cheaper

  • 5k presidential scholarship
    - stronger and very well known/respected CS department
  • heard the cs environment is not super competitive
    - visited and already know many people, would join the black engineers group
    - Introduced to internship and networking opportunities
    - Very large campus, plenty of things to do and people to meet
    - Many people I know will attend there

Cons:
- MANY people I know will attend there
- Closer to home (I prefer to be at least a plane ride away)
- Would be difficult to pursue other interests like medicine if I'm not completely set on studying CS; Heard its not as easy to switch/transition to studying something else
- don’t like the area Surrounded by farmland, so social events are restricted to things on campus
- Not sure if I really like the campus but I don't have others to really compare to so

UMich pros:
- Overall better school
- Very large campus, plenty of things to do and people to meet

  • much farther from home which is good
    - In LSA but more flexible so it Probably would be easier to switch out to a different field if I decide my focus isn't as heavily oriented around CS as I thought
    - generally feel I'd enjoy myself and fit there more
    - everyone I ask says to pick umich (Ik not the best reason but still)

Cons:

  • Haven't visited (will do so tomorrow)**
    - CS program is less restricitve many more students and might harder to make connections(?), heard it can be competitive bc of that
Overall I’m Unsure if I can justify paying $35k more for UMich for all its pros and generally liking the school more
Note: I'll have a better idea of these two choices in a few days

i havent heard a lot of great things about gatech in terms of social life (although it is in atlanta so thats good) whenever I ask people or see posts online the best ppl say is "ur experience is as good as u make it" or whatever

#

and its not like im unsatisfied with uiuc I just feel that I could get more at umich overall but I dont want to regret my decision
