Georgia Tech CS
Pros:
-T10 CS Program
-Many opportunities for internships/co-ops
-Cheap (22k/year)
-BS/MS Program

Cons:
-Not as prestigious as CMU
-Issues with CS class registration and sizes due to being a larger public school
-Food/dorms not amazing

Carnegie Mellon SCS
Pros:
-Best CS Program in the Nation (#1)
-More research/internship opportunities, world-renowned research
-Goes deeper in its classes
-More prestigious (may be better for careers in quant finance)
-Nice campus
-BS/MS Program
Cons:
-Very Expensive (83k/year) - main concern (assume no loans, but will stretch finances)
-More stressful
I know for CS, many people don't go for a masters/grad, so would CMU be better if I didn't go to grad school? Some also say to go to GT for undergrad then CMU for grad, but if I don't make it back into CMU, would GT BS/MS be better than CMU CS BS? Also if I used AP credit I could graduate from CMU in 3 years to save money but is it worth it?

I'm a current gt student,
If I got into carnegie mellon I probably would've gone there.

I will say GT is good enough to where you can realistically do anything you like whether that's quant, research, etc and it basically just comes down to you

That's because a few factors

  1. a lot of gt people stay in the georgia area which has lower cost of living and salaries than New England
  2. carnegie being a private school means it's students will tend to be more competitive/better
  3. Switching to carnegie scs is hard, but anyone at GT even business majors can switch to CS with no problems meaning carnege cs only has people who came in knowing they want cs while gt cs has a lot of people who get in and switch

It's not like somebody going to CMU is going to make more than if they went to GT, chances are they'll work at some big tech company regardless

# buoyant dagger Objectively speaking, yes. GT ain't as prestigious as CMU. But is it really 240k...

One thing someone mentioned though was that based on college scorecard: https://collegescorecard.ed.gov/school/?139755-Georgia-Institute-of-Technology-Main-Campus and https://collegescorecard.ed.gov/school/?211440-Carnegie-Mellon-University GT has median salary of 110k but CMU has median of 201k under "Fields of Study". Is that really just based off of the cost of living and related factors or do you see people making that much out of gt as well?

you apply on the same websites, do the same remote interview, get the same $200k offer for a job in mountain view showing ads to children. or $400k offer for quant if that's your jam.

probably different jobs that students go for. a GT grad and a CMU grad are going to get about the same salary for a google software developer job in mountain view, for example ($150k~$200k). lockheed martin in atlanta doesn't pay very well, probably close to the $110k. the kids getting $300k~$400k offers are going to citadel or hrt in chicago or new york.
again, you apply online so nothing is stopping you from applying to NY or SF or Seattle or anywhere else you might want to go.

and i'm using base salary+signing bonus for these numbers
