The schools: University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and the University of California, Los Angeles.
Intended major: Computer Science at the College of Engineering in both.
Similarities: excellent CS programs
UIUC:
Pros:
- Might be better in CS than at UCLA
- Internships might be easier to get here
- CS research facilities are said to be better than UCLA's
- only two physics requirements and more electives (Not sure)
Cons:
- Overall, not as prestigious as UCLA
- Dorms
UCLA:
Pros:
- Overall, more prestigious than UIUC
- Their campus is nice (doesn’t really matter that much)
- Their CS program is very good.
- They have the best dining halls in the country, and they are the #1 public school.
Cons: - The cost of living in LA is stressful.
- I don’t think I can live alone because it’s very costly, but I don’t mind having roommates as long as I have my own bathroom.
- Not as known in CS as UIUC
- Hot weather (also doesn’t matter that much, I can live)
- They say that UCLA’s CS students are weird (I have no idea what that means)
- The quarter system might hinder internship opportunities. (Not sure)
- 3 physics requirements and not as many elective courses (Not sure)
Notes: - I am a scholarship student, so tuition is not a problem at either school.
- I get a monthly stipend which increases if I choose to go to UCLA, but it’s still not that much.
- I lived on UIUC’s campus for a while, but I have never visited California.
- I know a lot of people at both universities.
- I plan on taking a master's degree (not necessarily at UCLA or UIUC)
