#Duke CS vs UMich CS
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
unless ur considering duke for the prestige
which i dont think is worth it for CS
bro maybe im biased bc i did a summer program there, but Duke all the way. You won't be disappointed. In fact, it'll exceed your expectations.
uh yes mich is stronger but like they’re both top programs
so the difference is not huge
besides duke is a private with more resources
and with duke’s name brand i’d say duke
keep in mind this is from the perspective of someone who’s admitted to and loves umich
but honestly duke and don’t look back
you won’t regret it
and yes i assumed so
considering it’s 75 vs 90k
ðŸ˜
Duke for small private school environment + name brand
Just a point to consider but you can definitely do some double majors from the umich engineering school (other engineering, business).
Name brand isn’t the best within CS
Can’t double in math or eco or something tho
hm my take is that there really isn't much difference in cs quality between most colleges (in terms of classes)
and looking at the duke cs classes, the theory classes honestly seem about the same as umich
other things like systems or whatever seem fine as well
and also one of the most important themes I've seen with duke are the very flexible prerequisites for almost all classes, including grad classes
umich math is even more flexible, but their cs requirements seem quite rigid (probably because there's so many people there)
so ig the only thing is job recruiting prospects, which I don't really know too much about
but I've heard decent things about quant at duke :blobpat
Yeah I’ve stopped thinking about that
I’m just doing due diligence about this now
Quant is strong
But I’m looking if there’s other stuff too, if I don’t like it
Nah this is rubbish. Ik someone who transferred 2nd year from a T20 with meh CS to a top CS public and he said that the quality of professors, the focus on CS rather than "interdisciplinary", and the facilities are unmatched
and ik atleast 4-5 who'll say the same
sure if you're looking for straight job perspective and only career focused and nothing else
but a lot of times people look for more than that.
your view on education is very much instrumental
which is fine but not everyone hold that kind of view
