#UMD CS vs Purdue AI

IMO, UMD would be the safer pick
Tho, idk data mining llc
If they have amazing company partnerships, then go w/ it especially since purdue is hella good as well
Purdue 100%
ur paying an extra 13k for UMD when the campus itself is worst than Purdue
although, umd might get you an okay federal job
its close to gov jobs
he's doing an AI major. regular CS, yea purdue clears
when u can't get an ai job with a bachelors
but if you want to get a good campus experience i think purdue is defenitely better
like there's no job placement stats or anything
plus umd costs 13k more
thats nuts
but yea unfortunately purdue is in the middle of fucking nowhere
@west kiln do you have any other options?
wisconsin or university of minnesota twin cities are way better options
or something like ohio state
rutgers etc
bro no way u think ohio state > purdue
yea true true
purdue is in the middle of nowhere
i have rpi, drexel, and rutgers
goi9ng to a campuis with a big city around is an important thing for me
which is cheapest out of all of them?
rutgers since in state
dont wanna go to a university where the city around it is just the uni
Go rutgers bro
its in state + its better than umd
just go to rutgers
for cs?
how is rutgers better than umd for cs?
there's not a huge difference between the 3 so just go to rutgers
like we're not debating CMU vs rutgers here or anything lol
ah for CS i think umd is ranked a bit higher
and ur near nyc + philly market for rutgers
but the difference is very minimal
like its not worth the extra 30k youd be paying for umd
rutgers is ranked 38th for cs and umd is ranked 17th
rankings after T10 don't mean much
that i can see
as long as the school is ranked top 50 for CS, theyre pretty much the same
like purdue is ranked crazy high for CS
but i dont think theres a huge difference between purdue and rutgers
the bottom line is they all get a shit ton of money from the state and conduct research, the rankings are just comparing apples and apples
yea
after like UT - Austin, all schools are similar
and stay close to family
if you end up paying 60k for umd, you'd probably regret it since the university isnt better than rutgers
unfortunately for me, i have to go out of state so at this point im just looking for the best value
but rankings after T10 dont mean anything
deciding between unc and nc state for cs
pros and cons to both
unc's overall a better school, but more theory focused than nc state
and i'd have to apply again at unc to be put in cs major
@hard knot what uni's u looking at?
probs UNC is more recognized
deciding between UMN and ASU
fopr compsci
i could go to university of new mexico cause its a fuckton cheaper....i used to live there....but not many ppl know new mexico
a lotta ppl do but its whatever
interesting
normally i'd say no question umn
but asu is closer to silicon valley
idk
still prolly go umn
but yeah i considered ASU because i live in the east now and i do want to go somewhere hotter
but at the sanme time
i dont think weather is gonna be a dealbreaker
i have a friend who goes to umn who trying to transfer out. 1/2 the reason is because its cold asf
he's from cali tho so keep that in mind
as a general thing, I'd discourage doing a degree in AI if you have CS or stat as alternatives
it's too new and overspecializes you
yea thats why i discouraged it
its kinda like majoring in data science
like we don't know how employers view it
yeah remember a big thing aboyut college is the degree you get
obviously
so like
CS degree is probs better
wityh a CS degree you can do like anything you want
since its general
just go to rutgers, you'll have job opps from 2 metros, nyc and philly
yea but who tf wants to work for the govt
its safe
true true
i think its good job after ur 30
great wlb
doesnt pay the best in 20s tho
private is always better tho
for sure
u make a ton more mioney
and government jobs are so bottlenecked
just people are lazy af in gov jobs
private jobs are fast moving, innovative etc
yea i've seen horror stories of ppl in govt jobs working for 10 years and getting no interest after leaving
most*
cause everyone knows how lax they are
if your goal is to do a masters and research, purdue is more than fine for that--the final degree you get will matter most for job recruiting. delta of $52k is really nontrivial, you can pay for most of a masters with that
