Preface:
Comp eng / physics major looking to research/intern and also looking for a career in quantum (hardware but opportunities can be less relevant)

Boston university pros:

  • location. BOSTON!!
  • ive heard both programs are good
  • facilities are numerous and good
  • accepts like 96 credits worth of ap/ib out of the 128 needed to graduate ( i know i'll have to take more anyway, but still)
    BU cons:
  • cost lmao (it must be illegal to have a 86000 full cost)
  • ive heard bad things abotu housing
#

UCI pros:

  • cheaper. much, much cheaper
  • also good programs, particularly cs but i dont know much about physics there
    UCI cons:
  • dont like campus very much
  • california weather is ALWAYS SO WARM

University of utah pros:

  • cheapest, with scholarship the sticker price is 20000
    U of u cons:
  • i need to get out of utah for various reasons
  • not as good as others from what ive heard

Umass amherst:

  • well rounded cs and physics programs
  • cheaper than bu lol
  • decent campus, also sort of close to boston (closer than uci lmao)
    umass amherst cons:
  • cant find anything about research/career opportunities
#

UIUC

  • probably the best ce and physics programs
  • decent career/research for undergrads from what i could find
  • cheaper than bu
    uiuc cons:
  • large state school, basically, i like smaller feeling schools (i know the others arent necessarily small by population but they definitely feel smaller imo)
  • um i was waitlisted

mostly I'm actually looking for more information, I swear I can't find anything specific online so I don't know if these colleges simply don't have what I'm looking for or if I'm just not looknig hard enough.

if you know of anything specific to me that might be offered at one of these colleges pls let me know

i wouldnt pay 86k for boston

#

BU*

#

uiuc isnt in the picture since its wl

#

choose between uci and umass, who has the higher ranked program

spiral dirge
#

it seems like research is relatively easy to find at umass amherst from what I’ve read, the same goes for uci it’s just all about cold emailing professors and finding a topic of interest

#

uci is more highly ranked than umass amherst in ce so I’d also take that into account, but if you want the bostonish location I’d say go umass amherst

#

u definitely can’t go wrong w either school so if they’re similarly priced I’d prob go umass amherst for location, uci for program
