Schools: University of Washington and UCSB
Major: poli sci/ pre-law.
Similarities: I have a UDub scholarship so cost is relatively the same, diverse culture and social scene, pretty campuses

UW
-l got accepted into the honors program. (Special housing, research opportunities, plus there’s only 223 admitted incoming honors spots so I’ll prob stand out?!)

  • I want to go law school, smaller classes+ honors would look better and boost my letters of rec I’m assuming?!! I know people said the honors program has too many reqs/they don’t like the interdisciplinary courses but that’s not really a huge takeaway for me.
  • near a large city unlike UCSB
    -study abroad+ research

UCSB
-I’m from California, so it would be more convenient. (I got a scholarship for UW tho, so cost is relatively the same)
-social life/ party school
-it’s ranked higher on usnews (!! I know this is total bullshit but my parents keep on guilt tripping me about this)
-a lot of my friends are going there so I’ll already have people I know going in
-it’s in California so beach+ good weather. I’ve lived in California my entire life so I’m pretty hesitant abt Washington weather and UW being OOS.

Honestly if you're more career oriented, UW would look better on a CV, especially cause of the honours. Since it's relatively the same cost as well, the only reason you'd stay in cali for UCSB is for the convenience

UCSB also imo has prettier campus/ people teehee , I'd visit both and see
But UW might be a better choice here yeah

I think ug doesn't matter that much for law might be wrong tho

#

And UCSB I'm sure has great DC programs in the summer

#

Again I am biased tho

i'm unbiased (not considering either school) but i do think that uw carries more name weight. since the cost would be the same my money would be on uw. if you are able to visit uw (since you're oos) i would definitely go to their admitted students day and i think that may help you consider what school you can see yourself attending. hope this helps!
