#Help me decide my CS school...

Schools: Cornell vs Brown vs UWash (Seattle) vs Georgia Tech vs UIUC (Grainger)

Major: Computer-Science (at all)

Similarities:

  • all top ranked overall
  • all ranked very highly for CS
  • all have great outcomes for students as far as job placements are concerned

Cornell
Pros:

  • top 5 CS program
  • prestige!!
  • snow :O

Cons:

  • pressure cooker
  • depression?
  • suicides

Brown
Pros:

  • happy students!
  • flexible curriculum
  • lots of course choices

Cons:

  • not as highly ranked in CS

UWash
Pros:

  • in-state tuition
  • close to home
  • great CS program with good MSFT / etc. placement
  • beautiful campus
  • cherry blossoms!!

Cons:

  • weedout classes
  • grade deflation
  • too close to home
  • all my friends are going there (want a fresh start)

GTech
Pros:

  • threads system
  • highly ranked for CS
  • lovely upperclassmen
  • great location

Cons:

  • pressure cooker
  • not sure what else to put here..

UIUC
Pros:

  • highly ranked for CS
  • lots of investment into AI / ML
  • kind of socially diverse and not as dead

Cons:

  • in the middle of a cornfield!!
  • grind

As you can see I do not know very much about these schools at all. please help me.

harvey mudd is INCREDIBLY good for placement but yeah it's tiny and might not for everyone @weak karma

cornell if money doesnt matter, uiuc if it does

Cornell if cost doesn’t matter for the Ivy tag + T5 CS. UDub if cost is an issue because you’re in state and still T10 CS.

but most likely it's either all (they can pay everything) or nothing ( I have to pay everything)
