(Muslim international student here)
SO FAR I got accepted into Trinity college (the one in Hartford, Connecticut) and NYU Abu Dhabi. I applied as an engineering major, I am really into computer engineering, wearable technology and robotics. My dream would be to work in these fields in the US or Canada
Also, I got a great 95% scholarship for trinity and a good scholarship for NYUAD but that is still slightly over my budget (still have to pay 13000$ even though my parents said they could handle it)
They’re both liberal arts colleges with a very open curriculum which I like
Pros for trinity:
- In the US
- Hartford is a great place for wearable technology according to what I’ve heard, I could potentially get a good internship
- very good scholarship
- Halal food in dining hall
- robust study abroad programs
Cons for trinity:
- Hartford isn’t rlly safe, which is scary as a girl that will live alone in a new country
- Not as a good of a reputation as NYU
- heard some bad things about the students being snobby and pretentious, not sure if it’s true since everyone I’ve met so far seems kind and nice
Pros for NYUAD:
- Muslim country (which my parents prefer) where I would feel safer
- Great housing and halal food available everywhere
- great study abroad options
Cons:
- The UAE isn’t rlly a study destination, I’d prefer Northern Europe or America for the technological advancements
- my parents have to pay while they also support my sister who’s in already in college
- not much internship opportunities
This isn’t rlly everything but it’s what came to mind rn
