Ok, since I couldn’t find the previous thread, and I got into a few more schools, I’d like to hear yall’s opinions. (I got in all for CS).

Edit: Almost forgot to also mention that I’m aiming for FAANG or HFT.

UIUC Pros: In-state tuition + scholarship, most likely $20k tuition

Yale Pros: Likely letter, most likely $40k tuition

Harvey Mudd Pros: Claremont consortium, $10k/yr merit scholarship, most likely $50k tuition

CMU Pros: Haven’t received financial aid package yet, most likely $40k tuition

I would say don't consider hmc. it has poor aid (assuming you're not full pay)

#

Yale is not "good" for CS, but it has a boatload of prestige and would be great for anything finance/management related

#

UIUC and CMU are both leaders in CS, and has a very reputable presence in the tech field. If you wanted to become a quant or need a network for a startup, I think this is a great option.

#

Prestige wise, CMU has the highest reputation

Prestige matters though

#

I would go to Yale

New haven

#

If I had to rank it’d be: Yale, CMU, uiuc, and then Harvey mudd

#

They’re all good though

#

Since you’re doing cs I don’t think a 20k difference in tuition matters. You’ll make that back in no time

Why would you recommend Yale CS over CMU CS? I saw the reddit post the other day and I remember everyone saying they’d pick CMU, so I’d like a different perspective

in some cases, ivy prestige matters.

Would it matter for going into HFT? I was under the impression that firms just care more about whether your school is hard to get into

#

probably a holdover from the older days of "Harvard Man"

#

so if you want to work for them, yes

#

if you want to become a quant, they will look at apps from all cs-powerful schools

I guess I’d like to see a list of what schools are in that category

cmu and uiuc are cs powerhouses

If you only care about how much cs you'll learn, go to CMU (or UIUC). These schools' vibes are prolly quite different, so I'd go with whichever's school would make you happiest.

I think I might've already said this to you before in a different thread but I haven't heard great things about Yale CS

#

you should choose either cmu or uiuc imo
