Hey all, I got into really good schools and Irvine is my top (But I’m OOS so tuition is $70k). I also got into Chapman with a $144,000 scholarship (OOS) which is $33k a year. I plan to be pre-med and go to medical school after undergrad.

However, I’m a pre-med and will be majoring in Chemistry for both. Chapman is not so well-known for the sciences and mostly just for business and film. So, finding opportunities for research may not always be readily available. So, I’m unsure of what to do. I’m so stuck on Chapman because of the scholarship I received, and I am set on going OOS. I have already declined my state school. I heard Chapman has some racism and overall Orange County is highly conservative.

Irvine on the other hand is well-known for its sciences and has opportunities available for research compared to Chapman (which is a necessity to me). However, tuition is $70k per year since I am OOS. I would have to of course, take in a PLUS Loan to pay for school. The environment there seems really relaxed and chill, but I’m conflicted on where I want to go.

I’m conflicted and want to go to Irvine, but money is the thing so Chapman is a better option, but considering the opportunities, I’m stumped on the fact that Irvine may be much more worth investing my education in.

^ To add on, my annual income is $80,000 right now and my Dad will be retiring soon.

I think 37k is too much money to give up to go to Irvine

70k is ridiculous

#

chapman is much better at 33k.

#

even though chapman is more white-dominant and less diverse

For diversity, UCI is predominately Asian as the area is majority Asian American. UCI students get to enjoy a plethora of boba places which is awesome.

For Orange County's conservativeness, the area was already conservative to began with, and the Asian immigrants/refugees (and sometimes the children of immigrants too, but some are more liberal then their parents) reinforce it as they hail from countries affected by Communism (Korea, Vietnam, etc.).

#

UCI is a liberal compared to the area as a whole, and in general pretty moderate.

H Mart is another luxury UCI students enjoy, it's an amazing Asian market, although I'm sure there's other ma and pa Asian grocery stores that are better.
