Which one is better for career, money, growth, and opportunity? Data science at UCSD or software engineering at UCI? I'm super grateful and kinda surprised I got accepted! π I want to know which one would be more ideal? I got into UCSD's muir college which would mean i would have almost no GE's left to complete due to AP/Dual enrollment and its pretty highly ranked. But I'm afraid that data science is too dissimilar to computer science since data science doesn't have required cs courses and is a bit different. Also, I'm trying get off the waitlist at ucla for cs

ds is quite similar, but at ucsd you will take specialized DS courses
this means instead of doing Java you do Python
you cannot go wrong with either choice
at uci you can switch majors extremely easily if you wish
one big con of that is you can't transfer in credit for it from another school for the most part (due to no equivalency)
you just need to meet the course reqs and min gpa and thats all
choose the school thats a better fit for you and financially a better option
at ucsd you're locked out of cs essentially if you entered last year and forward
also dont get your hopes up for ucla cs waitlist as it's really hard to get off the waitlist
^^^
you will be a data science major at ucsd
or math+cs. surprisingly it's not capped
and you should not worry about career prospects in regards to the data science major, as long as you get good experience and projects, which is something the major cant give u
Are you a UCSD student? What do you think about mathcs? Iβm deciding between that and regents CS at Davis
not a ucsd student but i've heard its mostly math
i know @harsh bramble is UCSD
might wanna ask him
omg really?
people were scaring me saying that its hard to change majors and stuff beause i got in for my second choice major and i changed my mind about that path π
for uci that's not true
omg so i have a change of changing my major?
mathcs is a decent major. it is fairly short, but also, it is known to be quite challenging
i don't see it
but yes, I think uci/ucd/ucla allow switches to cs
i dont wanna go into cs π¦
ucsb/ucsc/uc berkeley/ucsd for sure don't allow
which major?
oh bio should be fairly easy to switch into
it's extremely high demand majors that have issues
wait isnt bio extremely high demand tho
or am i trippin
(i want to change from earth science system into bio)
well it's not listed as severely impacted at many schools such that it's closed off
I know that it's still open to TAG, so it can't be to the point of cs
my brother currently goes to uci he got in for comp engineering and he just asked a counselor and he just took the cs courses and declared cs
ucsd locks you out of cs if you dont get in it
no matter what
i think its started like this past yr
so i should be fine with the change of majors and stuff?
omgiomgodjksald does this mean i get to commit to uci π
sry lemme go to ur thread i dont wanna flood him LMFAO
you shouldn't need to worry if your major isn't ultra impacted lol
