Purdue CS / UW-Madison / U-Iowa CS

Going to major in computer science with a track in machine learning and a minor in Finance. I might also take advantage of either schools advanced masters program. Huge thing to me is coming out with the lowest debt possible. I also am huge on athletics

Purdue Pros: Top 25 cs program that is very reputable Beautiful Campus Was my dream school for 8 years very hands on program that will help me with research

Cons: cost is a lot. not affordable at 40,000 a year nothing to do outside of campus dorms kinda suck athletics are fine

UW-Madison Pros: I love love love this campus and student life. Good CS program that is top 20 according to some sources Good research but not amazing great athletics

Cons: It costs the most out of the 3 at 56,000 a year

U-Iowa pros: cheapest at 7,000 a year because of their financial aid love the campus and student life decent finance program is a minor the easiest advanced masters program out of the 3 I think i would have a great dorm amazing athletics

Cons: Not nearly as ranked or intensive worried i won’t get the research or internships i want

I would definitely remove Iowa from consideration as the other two options simply outweigh it, unless you have an issue with fees or something
Purdue cs is definitely great but you've got to keep in mind their housing situation as well as the fact that you've to get a certain grade after the first year as well as take specific classes which are pretty hard I've heard, to get into CS, else you're gonna have to take computer engineering.
UW-Madison is also amazing but since your main EC is athletics, and it isn't that great for it as well as the fact that it costs the most, I'd personally go purdue.
IMO the only reason to choose UW-Madison would be the area / friends going there / campus (doubt this cause purdue campus is amazing as well)

#

U Iowa imo

#

40k and 7k is over 120k over 4 years

#

even though purdue is really good

#

its hard to justify that

#

Yeah that’s why I stated I’d remove it unless he had some financial issues

Purdue elected a new president who is a heavyweight in the academic community so he's gonna introduce a lot of new industry connections and opportunities (though he's a compe guy)

#

downside is there's a lot of lingering damage from Mitch Daniels including a strained budget and the housing situation

#

the weather is also shit.

purdue imo

#

ya but 40k vs 7k

#

is it really 120k better

gray swift

#

but depends on your family income

cloud sky
#

I wouldn't exceed 25k a year total for any university unless it's HYPSMC level

#

or if you're Premed, Brown for the S/No Grade system

yeah

opal gale
#

just not like DeVry, Capella, etc

wheat monolith
#

as long as you're accreddited

opal gale
#

the only way it could make some form of difference is HPSMC

wheat monolith
#

there are 371 ABET accreddited CS programs in the US

#

so it's not hard at all

Bro tried to sneak in the C

#

Unless C means caltech in which case yea I agree C > Y

#

But if C means columbia

opal gale
#

columbia/yale aren't really known for cs and probably won't make a practical difference

ornate harness
#

Just people usually say HYPSM and HYPSMC is a acronym that Columbia students tried to push while it was number 2 on USNWR

opal gale
#

columbia is one of those ivies with no specialty

#

it's weird how it's prestigious but also not particularly known for anything

#

also they tried to fudge a lot of the stats, and we don't even know their admission rates because they are one of the few who hide that data

ornate harness
#

Yea columbia is kinda fake tbh

#

Thats their unique specialty
