Help me choose 2 of the 3.

Schools: Lafayette College, Cooper Union, Syracuse University
Intended major: Electrical engineering
Similarities: Generally well-regarded in engineering and have opportunities for students. Nothing much beyond that

Lafayette College Pros:
Traditional college campus
Well-regarded engineering program
Good opportunities w/ connections to industry and academia
Liberal arts college so I would have more breadth of education
Small student size. More possibility to stand out.

Lafayette College Cons:
Small student size. Might get old seeing everyone.
Might not fully satisfy in terms of student clubs.
Kind of in a shady part of PA.

Cooper Union pros:
Excellent connections to academia and industry.
Amazing alumni network in NYC.
Very rigorous engineering curriculum.
Cool area of NYC.

#

Cooper Union cons:
Hard to get into for engineering.
No traditional campus.
Extremely small student body. About 850 people.
Probably wont have all the clubs I'd like.

Syracuse University pros:
Cool research going on
Bigger university with more opportunities
More vibrant social life

SU cons:
these are kinda shallow
SU seems to be losing prestige.
Not as well-known for engineering.

Tiebreaking considerations:
I really don't know that much about Lafayette or Cuse connections to industry and grad schools. If I had info that they were stronger it'd be easier to pick. I also don't have very much in terms of starting salaries for majors and what grad schools engineering students go to for SU and Lafayette College.

Addendum: I like the "traditional college" vibe. I wanna feel like I'm on a college. Can't really handle the cold too well. I don't care that somewhere is rural. I live in the middle of nowhere in the South.

Sounds like you’re leaning towards cooper Union and Lafayette college

if u want the traditional college experience syracuse def gives the most of that so i would keep that on ur list so that lets say u get into all 3 u have the option to have a trad experience

#

the choice between lafayette and cooper union basically comes down to how much u value nyc, whether ur list needs a reach or a target, and if u r comfortable with the student body of 850 (since u r in nyc u will be able to meet a bunch of ppl outside of ur college tho)

@night locust hmm i think it needs more reaches

#

i already have a safety since i got into uga

#

but isnt su rebounding from its prestige hit?

#

@lethal garnet what makes you say that

# jade carbon i already have a safety since i got into uga

i mean if u got into uga already which def has that school spirit vibe, will prob be cheaper than syracuse, and has better engineering, if ud choose it over syracuse then i wouldnt apply to syracuse and id just do lafayette and cooper union

like a laughingstock?

I mean it’s not great but tbh for majors like engineering and cs and sciency stuff like that, once u get past a certain ranking it doesn’t rly matter from what I’ve heard

“Excellent, amazing”

#

And then Lafayette has the traditional college experience, which you say you want

#

And your pro con list for Syracuse is, as you admit, shallow
