#To ED II or not (NYU)

Hi, so.

School: NYU Steinhardt
Intended major: Global Public Heath + Applied Psychology

I’m trying to decide whether or not to ED II.

I’m a 4.6 GPA, 1390 SAT score (can do test optional), and extracurriculars range from involvement in the UN in the city to various internships in the area related to either psychology or global health.

I applied to Columbia ED i and got rejected. Now, I’m considering NYU, which has the best program for my intended major out of all the schools I’ve looked at. The problem is, I hear it’s extremely expensive, and my parents definitely don’t make enough to send me there (although they’re also not low income…)

My thinking is that if I get into NYU, maybe I can possibly check if the financial aid is good without forcing me to take out loans, as I intend on medical school. If it’s not, then I could(?) opt out of the ED due to financial reasons.

What do you think?

there's pretty much no chance you will get aid there, historically they have only offered support to extremely poor people (as in on benefits). And even for them NYU sometimes leaves them hanging after the first year by giving no/insufficient aid

I have no clue if this is true, but check if NYU’s medical school gives preference to NYU undergrads. If so, it might be worth the loans considering NYU’s med school is free!

given that they provided a person with income of <25k with a COA of 25k, I'm not confident they'll give much of anything to anyone

my classmate who EDed to NYU said he only has to pay like 6k/year iirc

so it seems like their fin aid isn’t that bad

maybe he got a scholarship? because I've heard of people who received merit which reduced the cost further

it looks like nyu is at best unpredictable and the npc isn't always reflective of aid recieved

and aid can vary each year, it isn't consistent

honestly it might be a good idea to ED somewhere else, maybe like an Ivy (not Cornell though) that gives predictable amounts and consistent aid year to year
