firstly because it's need blind for international applicants

and um i just fw lacs so i applied to all the generous ones

sorry I don't really have any solid reasons 😭

i simply prefer small schools and amherst's one of the best small schools in the US (and it also happened to be need blind so applying to amherst was a no-brainer)

there's the open curriculum and the 5 college consortium too

and it's not in the middle of bumfuck nowhere, unlike williams!

There are some moments esp during class, early morn, evening etc where it does feel a lil empty and lonely — I think most people are in the buildings at those times

Other times it feels lively with students walking around, people sitting around in the quad, people playing frisbee

I like how there’s a balance

Also apparently the alumni network is a mafia of some sorts

U get to see their phone, home address, education history etc

Which is p funny to me for no reason at all

yeah there's kinda two big impressions i got

1.) alumni network is SUPER tight and they will literally just give you opportunities. well in general that's true. one student literally told us "opportunities just fall into your lap you don't even need to work for them if you don't want to"

2.) Amherst has a TON of money and they'll just spend it on you. guaranteed fridges and microwaves in every dorm room. some guy told me he got a summer internship, but amherst thought they weren't paying him enough, so they just gave him $5k. they not only have a lot of resources, but they're willing to spend it on you b/c no grad students (and i talked to someone from my HS who attends using that anecdote, he said that stuff like that is super common and normal there)
