This isn’t for choosing between which school to attend but rather to find out if I should even waste my time applying to Yale
Schools: Bowdoin VS Yale (Regular Decision @ Both/Early Decision 2 @ Bowdoin)
Intended major: CS @ Bowdoin and CS + either Econ/Math @ Yale
Similarities: Both are need-blind for international students. Both are ranked high.
My application:
An international student who needs aid
3.99 UW GPA (Stated as 3.99/4 W GPA in the Coalition App)
Test-optional
ECs (8, and that's the limit) are not bad, but I would give a 7/10 for them.
Awards: 2 school-based, one regional-based, and one international-based (silver medalist in a language competition held online among thousands of students)
Counselor Recommendation is a 9/10
Teacher recommendations (2; one from English and one from Math teacher) are 7/10
(tell me if there is else that I didn't write here)
Bowdoin College
Bowdoin Pros:
Small student body
LAC professors focus more on student development (that's my perspective)
Need-blind
Has Early Decision 2, which means there is a higher acceptance rate.
Cool name (jk)
(tell me if there is else that I didn't think of)
Bowdoin Cons:
6.6% of international student acceptances last year (can't tell if that's actually bad)
(tell me if there is else that I didn't think of)
Yale University
Yale Pros:
Has CS+Econ and CS+Math (I prefer them over just CS)
(tell me if there is else that I didn't think of)
Yale Cons:
4.4% of RD acceptance rate
Research-focused (I don't like research)
(tell me if there is else that I didn't think of)
Tiebreaking considerations:
How many undergraduate international applicants were there last year or any year for both colleges? And how many of them got accepted? If I knew these 2, I would've already selected which one to apply.
(tell me if there is else that I didn't think of)
Addendum:
Small college sizes and populations are preferred. Need-blind is also preferred because I already got 4 rejections from 4 need-aware colleges.
