The first time I went to Yale, I was a freshman in high school, attending the university’s annual tournament for certamen (Latin quiz bowl)- and every year I always return to compete, whether the event was on Zoom or in person. Every memory I associate with Yale is a happy one- whether it was triumphing with my team during a certamen round, touring Yale’s magnificent library, or finally being reunited with my friends from all over the country.
Through these experiences I have noticed the strength of Yale’s classics program. Although I wish to pursue a major in biology, I also strongly desire to continue studying the Greek and Roman civilizations and I sincerely believe that Yale is a perfect place to accomplish this endeavor.

Titrations are a series of experiments commonly taught in science classes and are very precise procedures that can cause nightmares for every chemistry student. Little did I know that these experiments would eventually carry a much more profound meaning for me.
During one of our lab nights after school, my group was struggling to yield that trademark pale pink color needed to achieve a successful titration. Sometimes, when we added too much of the base sodium hydroxide, the solution would turn hot pink- and other times, the solution remained clear, because we added insufficient amounts of the base. After three tiring hours, when all the other groups had already finished and left, we finally were able to complete the lab.
When I look back on that night, I don’t recall the shade of pink solution sitting in our Erlenmeyer flask. I only remember laughing with my lab partners and having a great time. I realized that in seeking perfection, I gained something much more valuable- meaningful connections with others. Titrations not only ignite my love for chemistry but also serve to remind me that taking time to cherish the journey is much more important than striving for flawless results.

so there are two types of interviews

alumni and senior interviews

before the pandemic, yale gave alumni interviews to everyone they could like at other colleges

but after, they became more selective

so now

applications are given a first read and split into 3 piles

1 Amazing (def need to have at yale) --> meaning no interview most likely
2 On the fence --> meaning we need an interview
3 Not great/Not good enough --> most likely no interview

^those are alumni interviews

for senior interviews

they have a strong correlation with likely letters

but its not always the case
