I kind of look at it like this… Every application I did was far from the same. What you write for one isn’t the same for the others. So just because you get rejected from BC has nothing to do with what Rice chooses to do. A lot of the college decision videos the person gets rejected from every ivy but gets into Duke and Stanford. It’s really luck of the draw. And TRUST ME I’m the type of person that likes to control every detail of how my life goes, so this experience was anxiety inducing the whole way through

In finance we call it stern syndrome (as in nyu stern) aka thinking you’re at an Ivy because of your business school ranking without reflecting on the fact that most t20s don’t have an undergrad business school. At ross or stern, you’re competing with a group of ~700 kids for maybe 30 places.

Kind of the same principle but probably fewer majors at rice for cs as compared to gt in which you'll be competing with more cs kids + I bet the quality remains somewhat the same. Not trying to say one is better than the other but just some fresh perspective : D

I don't think the portal is too important. I sent applicants update to some schools but none reflected in my portal.
I think if you sent an optional material it won't reflect in your portal but will be added to your file and reviewed.
