after cornell emailed, I figured we'd hear from a bunch of other schools, too, but no other school contacted us about it

That doesn't mean committee hasn't started yet for them but they're just still going through all the apps

committee is a group of people where individual AOs pitch students from their assigned geographical region that they think are strong enough or that they want to admit

and then based on that pitch they make a decision

reading starts right after deadline and committee comes later

right now (at least for schools that have late march decision dates) are wrapping up reading and starting to go into committee
