but to be brutally honest obviously being rejected there isnt a positive indicator, especially if you're in state. CMU is the more competitive school. again though UCs nowadays are brutal and the whole system is like playing a slot machine so you cant be sure

Also, different institutions value different things. Most obviously UC's are test blind while CMU isn't. So if you had a strong test score, for example, that favors you (although obviously this can work the other way around too.)
