That matching usually only works out for schools that hand out scholarships like candy based on some sliding scale. If you don’t have a scholarship to begin with at a school, it’s hard to negotiate. That’s made even harder by the fact there’s a waitlist full of kids, many of whom would be glad to go without any scholarship

There are always scholarships to apply for, and if it’s not already part of your plans, you can come up with more than 10k by becoming a house fellow/RA

You get free food, free housing, and like a 4k stipend. It’s a sweet deal at Wisconsin

Probably Sophomore year and each year after. It’s definitely hard work to be an RA, but they do make the benefits good to match the work needed

Third, that median salary is only because of a strong CS program and even then it’s a difference of about $3.5k/yr on average after 10 years. Outside of CS, the difference is non-existent or in favor of Wisco for most majors. Keep in mind, Wisconsin/the Midwest is much cheaper than DMV
