@river trout I was on my phone so I couldn't type much lol. Anyways, DSCS at Purdue is just gonna be a couple of classes that relate to applied data in CS-- AI, data vision, and algorithms. You won't do the full CS core so you won't learn C programming or systems meaning that CS electives other than the ones I mentioned in the last sentence are off-limits

It is definitely not a back door into a CS degree, but there are some good options

• we have a 2 billion dollar fab being built nearby
• MediaTek is opening a small office right next to campus
• our uni president is a computer engineering networking god (royal swedish academy of engineering international fellow)

both are really good schools so honestly personal preference, but Purdue has by far the best computer architecture course I've ever taken (miles above UIUC, we cover double the content and are on par with MIT)

you'll have to search up the electives names yourself, though

keep in mind we only have 2 embedded courses which are very weak - computer engineering learns up to data structures for programming (C, Advanced C, Data Structures, Python for Data Science) though there are numerous electives including networking, cyber security, OS, compilers, etc.

we also have one of the best makerspaces IMO if you're into that type of thing - an entire building dedicated to it

Overall I like it. There are a lot of good classes and opportunities in the CS department. That being said, there’s nothing particularly unique abt Purdue really sets it apart imo

Curriculum gets a 9, uniqueness gets a 7, location gets a 2 (all out of 10)

It’s cold asf in Indiana and West Laf is a boring town

Campus is p nice but unless you live here in the summer you don’t really get to enjoy it since you won’t be going outside other than to get to class as fast as possible
