#Cal Poly SLO (2022-2023)
1 messages Ā· Page 2 of 1
If I remember last year the first wave was acceptance, and the second wave were a mixtures of wl/a/d, and then the last wave was basically pulling people out of the wl pool
But they didnāt accept that many wl
And I donāt think it was by last name
any transfers for cs got their decision?
I think weāre this coming Friday or next week
anyone oos got yet?
So no one has gotten their decision for comp eng?
Anyone know where we can see our coa?
Has anyone gotten their decision for bme?
nope
What about aero?
not yet
i heard that they were doing it according to majors?
no im pretty sure if you havent gotten it yet it means your waitlisted/rejected
Why does cal poly not look at senior grades
oh interesting but i havent heard anyone get their decision for comp eng
how could they look at senior grades if they have to make a decision before 1st semester even ends?
I meant like first semester
Wdym first semester ever ends, your first sem hasnāt ended?
it ended a month ago but I'm pretty sure admissions offices can't process 50 thousand apps in a month(?)
and I think every school is different
has anyone gotten into bme so far?
My friend got in
thatās so cruel of slo, like man if i got rejected just tell me rn instead of doing it like this
lets boycot slo and not go next year guys š
im in
fr
slo needs to take some notes from sjsu and 1) release impaction indexes for majors 2) release admissions on time
Yes 100%
do you people pronounce it as 'cal poly slow' or 'cal poly es-el-o'
Slow
Literally no one calls it S L O š
cal poly sucks because they didnt tell me i got rejected yet and are teasing me by making me wait two weeks which is completely unfair
accepted into SLO(w) yesterday
Some people on the cal poly reddit said they didnt get accepted until the very end of the month so the speculation that everything after the first round being rejected or waitlisted is wrong
Yeah my email went to spam and was almost 3hrs late
my decision came out just before 5 on friday when i checked the portal
in california time^
I think my was at 4? Idk I checked 100% not expecting it to update so im not sure when it did
Does anyone know if financial aid comes when youāre accepted or later?
definitely not me š„²
Is slo admitting in order of major?
Itās most of the applicants though who havenāt received it yet
Itās not really wrong
No
does anyone know if people have gotten accepted for mechanical engineering yet?
Thats why i thought it was in order of major because i havent seen anyone get accept for mechanical engineering yet
Yeah my friends got in mech e on Friday
Thereās always a chance
Friends from my old school have
Iām Mech E but friends who are EE, Iāll ask them
Hey so iv been reading online that recently the EE program is really lacking, the profs arent that good, equipment very outdated, in general compared to the rest of the programs at SLO, EE is rlly bad so im kinda wondering is this still a thing or are they working on it
One friend says that theyāve been satisfied with the classes as of right now. Supposedly more opportunities are opening up. Another friend says classes are a bit tough but so far enjoys the professors
EE tends to be pretty tough major generally so that can likely lead to people having negative views on it
okay thank you so much
ppl online made it seem like cal poly slo had a really shitty ee program
š
hows the mech program tho
Mech is really good
So far I think itās been pretty good! Friends of mine at unis like UCSB are jealous since we start with labs / major pretty early on
thats cool
Iirc most unis do thermo/statics/dynamics their 4th/3rd year while we do it 1st/2nd
i love the hands on appraoch but im thinking ab doing graduate school not 100% on it tho so idk if cal poly slo is still good
I think undergrad tends to be equal among most unis after you do all 4 years
I think the huge perk with cal poly though is that you do it MUCH sooner
does that mean you gradaute sooner then other ucs?
So the huge benefit is for internships / doing more stuff where it takes longer to do that
ohh
Yeah so to get the āskillsā, a UC class would take 3 while cal poly 1 year
thats so cool
cal poly slo is one of my top choices
if i get accepted into ucsd id have a hard time chooisng between the two though
Oh yeah, I was thinking either UW, UCSD, or cal poly last year
Fun to make decisions lol
UW office told me to not go there as itās ass oos in terms of huge preference for instate
For slo/ucsd, it was more tough but I think I preferred the benefits of getting more involved in major classes over theoretical
SLO also imo is much easier to get into research if thatās something you are looking into
oh really
i thought slo didnt have as many research materials as ucsd does
Think of it like this, those funds go to UPPER grad students
Therefore, less funds for the undergrad
While with slo, itās ONLY /tends to go for undergrad
what ab when u became a junior in slo?
Iām a first year
Obviously there could be some cool labs at schools like ucsd, but those may be tons harder/preferred for upper years like junior year
Iām rn getting set to do independent research next quarter
wait so does that mean that slo wouldnt be great for a physics undergrad that wants to pursue physics grad school (and research done in undergrad is a must for grad school admission)
thats rlly cool tbh
reserach as an undergrad is epic
it prepares u for grad school and internships
No thereās tons of research opps here actually. Iām talking more of like the phd focused research
Itās called FROST research iirc
ah got it
Check here
Cal Poly alumnus William Frost and his wife, Linda,Ā gaveĀ a CSU-record $110 million to Cal Polyās College of Science and Mathematics. The gift is among the largestĀ ever given to public higher education in California.
i was worried for a sec lol
Itās more how people see others universities higher up for research
But irl, youāll likely not get those opps until wayyy later
damn thats rlly good
Idk tons with physics but hopefully that helps?
ya it helps, and i looked through slo's physics department website and i should have p good research opps
Have you checked here? https://physics.calpoly.edu/PhysicsDirectory
The Physics Department office is located in building 180, room 204. (map)
You can look through the professors and see their research interests
Which tends to be what they are doing / plan to do
ohh yeah ive done that w other schools but i should do that for slo too
and ik u just need to cold email a prof to potentially work in their lab/get involved in their research
or go to their office hours
Yup!
My mech e professor just offered students to do research, so thatās how I started the work Iām doing rn
damn nice!
if slo and all the other uc's end up rejecting me, ill probs go to ucr, which isnt bad bc on their physics department website undergrads get rlly good access to research since the amount of physics majors at ucr is typically smaller than at other uc's
@sick plaza you see this makes me scared to commit to slo
ur friends say its a good program this guy says ur better of with youtube videos and textbook
likeeeee
thats true about undergrad in general ngl
you can learn most stuff by yourself if youre rly dedicated
but slo is a good program dw
Lol Iām paying like 30k a year I want profs that will teach me since I pay
This is also Reddit
Take it with a grain of salt
Whatās wrong w Reddit
You are getting only ONE perspective
Many people could view the university VERY different
This is also based off of professor
Some students struggle with how itās taught while others thrive the way it is
Itās really up to you, PERSONALLY youāll get the same quality education everywhere
Itās really what you can do at the university
Thereāll be good and bad professors
Has anyone heard from CAED?
did you ever get SWE decision?
@wispy osprey poop
thanks
yes
Will Cal poly release decisions on a Monday or only Friday?
is it possible to switch majors and if so how hard is it
at slo
if someone has info please dm me
yo how do I login to the portal it keeps saying my credentials are wrong lmao
like I didnt get any cal poly slo portal email
Try using the (first initial)(middle initial)(6 letters of last name)@calpoly.edu
I got in thank you!
You should also check deleted emails or maybe email them
yeah
Super easy
Getting into CS is tough though
Usually only majors able to do that are general engineering and computer engineering (essentially EECS)
Business?
From what major?
Anyone know when the next decisions are coming out for slo?
Any cal poly applicants get in for Math/Applied math? If so, what's your CSU GPA?
I applied for mechanical engineering and iām considering switching into cs
would that be the case for me too
Im guessing this friday
mhm
yeah fr
Anyone apply for Arch?
I applied as a math major but havenāt heard back yet and I havenāt seen any math majors say they got in on Friday
What abt bme to ce or ee
BME should be a ton easier to CE or EE
Within engineering, transferring is WAY easier
Itās specifically getting into College of Engineering as non engineering + getting into CS
Do yk how soon one can switch majors within engineering and what the req are
Are u a student at slo rn?
if we still havent heard back is it safe to say its a wl/reject
Well see
š³ š³ fun fun
First quarter
Yes
You need to finish a quarter before you can transfer
Itās only been 3 days
Did anyone get in for bio?
I just wish they released the decisions all at once and itās more stressful not seeing anyone talk about getting in or not for my major
Yeah, tbh i doubt it. I feel like no ones heard back from CAED yet.
honestly yeah, like why torture us by dragging it out just for it to probs be wl/reject
And itās not like they have to read a ton of essays, just look at my grades and major + a few other things lol
yeah but everything ive heard says that if you didnt get in on friday its game over
Cal poly being cruel fr fr
Some say it comes in waves some saying its over
But i think its over gang
I was looking at the a2c mega thread for the CSUs for last year and quite a few people said they got into slo after the first wave but there were also a decent amount of waitlists and rejections
Iām not as worried as I could be cause I got into a school Iād probably pick over slo
Theres going to be significantly less admits in the second wave but still holding onto hope
Wish i could relate
Good luck with the rest of your colleges even if you donāt get into slo and donāt lose hope š«
Check dms plz ty
Yall know if any CE majors heard back yet
That's if you don't hear when waitlists start
any CS majors get in yet?
there was a guy in here who took 17(?) aps and hasnt gotten in yet
thatās convincing me that theyre not done yet
I'll lose all hope and nd myself if I don't transfer to SLO š
Or suck it up and go to Pomona
what major?
CS lmao
Bruh, the amount of CS transfers is making me actually sick, I ain't gonna get anywhere, my ass should have been a nurse like my mother asked
Yeah, but I didn't take Data Structures this sem and I'm fucked for all of the places I applied to
Kinda contemplating if I should take another year and try to transfer again while doing more reqs or just suck it up and go to CPP
I took 20 dual enrolled classes and have 70 college units, and 4.0 unweighted. Still no response from SLO. They fr flipping a coin for admission
Yeah I have very similar stats and still havenāt gotten anything from slo
Hey guys I asked my friend whoās lived in slo for ab a decade. They said that slo usually releases acceptances in multiple waves with usually the same amount of acceptances rather than only a select few "making the cut".
Did u apply to the UCs?
Lol
Tag is a great program if you go to CC in california lol
Guaranteed admission to great UCs like Davis, Irvine and Santa Barbra while saving money
yeah TAG was initially my plan
Anyone get in this week ?
prolly not until friday right?
Yeah from all Iāve heard next wave friday
Hope we get some acceptances !!
anyone get finaid today?
.
yep, I got it yesterday
yes got it today
People have been saying that but people ik from last year said there was a mixture including both acceptance and rejections last year
Might be majority wl? But that system seems stupid if everyone remaining after the second wave is assumed to be rejected
Ive heard so many different opinions at this point im just assuming itās completely random and u can get it on a random wednesday at 2:23 am
yeah I call BS on it being all rejections. I absolutely āloveā having absolutely no idea when my decisions are coming out
ripe
Some wait lists are out
Someone I know from school, I would ask her for proof but that's really weird. She could be lying but she got pissed when people said Irvine was out already so I don't think so
They came out today?
Why would they release mid Thursday
It happened like that last year
Waitlists released at a random time
Nah but we not getting waitlisted
āThe portal is currently downā on my end
They updating all our applications with acceptances
false cause thatād actually give us an indication that decisions are coming
and we know slo wouldnāt do that
can confirm itās coming out on the 22nd around 2:22 am pst
did anyone get a letter back yet that applied with biochem?
one of my friends did
Guys I have a question
damn i prolly got rejected then š
I know that Comp Sci major is closed to students who want to change major
I got accepted to Statistics at Obispo
but I want a job in Data Science
Either I minor in Data Science or Comp Sci
but I really want to double major with Comp Sci
is that possible?
i think your best bet is talking to an academic advisor over there
double majoring might work
nahh just wait till more decisions come out
rip
Dw I also applied biochem and nothing
Any chance of a wave today?
High chance
Do we know time
fingers crossed for today
Y'all anyone heard when the wave is coming out???
ITS 4:00 but nothings here š
Yeah same
Ye
getting nervy fr
Bro can they come out already
They fr tugging us
hopefully 7pm tn like last week? š
Does slo mail out a physical letter
Damn
The magic 8 ball they use for decisions is down at the moment
Did anyone get anything today yet?
I heard some might come out at 7 today but its basically a guessing game at rhis point
Did anyone get anything
no
Weow
Cucked again cal poly
man im starting to hate this school
even if i get in should I choose it over UCD for comp e?
Cal poly ranks higher but at this point its just prestige
hm
personally id go slo over davis
Fr
but thats a preference thing
go slo if ur slow
anybody got slo this week??
not out yet for me hope it doesnt mean another reject/wl
sb over slo fs
sb over both 100%
campus 10000% nicer
depends on major but for the most part sb
Slo is really giving us a tug
you got into all 3??
Would u say sb over slo for ce?
Yes but Iām in state
dang, congrats then!
haven't, got 4 rejections today and really need an instate school so i dont have to go to CC getting worried but it is what it is
CPP wouldnt even give me CS so i've given up atp
i j need to find a way to make my OOS choices affordable
Slo better send out acceptances before I have to step in
itās ok i got rejected on uci ucsd ucsc and ucla + waitlisted csulb and uc davis
CS just got destroyed this year
so freaking lucky
im glad i went for computer engineering
thatās my dream fr
they're done w acceptancs
Nah decisions are crazy ik a girl who got early scholarship Berkeley eecs and then didnāt get Irvine
rest will be WL & deny
i mean sure but you got SLO
According to what
according to the past 10 years
Didnāt everyone say thereās been a mixture with a few acceptances* in years prior?
Fair enough. I never like slo anyways ;-;
why does slo have to torture everyone like this
jsut send everything on the same day
ffs
server load
they don't have the capacity to handle the traffic nor the people to input decisions
every other school CHOOSES to invest in it, they didnt
lol
imo a good choice
a month of stress is worth having that money put to use soemwhere better
Engineering is still pretty impacted
imo, i would rather go to community college and transfer than slo bc itās so far
I applied as a ce major and only got into sjsu so far
Still not out?
Nope
ic
Iād trade my Irvine for slo
how do u know that slo is only sending out wl/ r?
im really hoping for good news from slo
me too i got rejected too all ucs but ucsc ://
lets trade irvine for a diff cal poly
plz
same but waitlist everywhere and reject irvine
very sad
Yes
Youāll get a sticker and some stuff
Donāt say Pomona
Or even worse Humboldt
lmao
Can they hurry up already gawdsmn
man i got waitlisted everywhere and rejected irvine as well
except for acept to david and SLO
slo is somewhat more holistic right? like if my weighted and capped is kinda low but i have a good weighted they would consider it right?
praying for berkeley or sb š
they're the least holistic of any uni
you dont have essays you dont have activities
its all raw stats
yea ik that ofc but i mean would they see your courses
obviously
and would they also consider uncapped
Any transfers hear from slo?
ugh when are they gonna send the next wave
Fr
BRO WHERE IS CAL POLY ATš
They cooking up the most fire rejection letter šāļøāļøš„š„š„
damn bru are they giving me the individual reasons why i got rejected too
They listing out bullet points
I'm a transfer so the wait is even worse for me
Are accepting your admission and putting down the deposit the same thing
Like do you have to do it at the same time
I dont believe so
San Luis Obispo
Its been a whole week since the first batch wth
they donāt even have essays to look at š
takin so long theyāre prob writing them for us atp
they listing out individual reasons for each student lmao
pros and cons
nah juist the cons
wonder if next wave is just gonna be waitlists and rejections
probably
unfortunate
š¦
2021 waitlist yield was about 10%
Why do they take so long
tfw transfer acceptances may happen with freshman waitlist
Pretty sure you can
Would have been better if acceptance letters were custom
The acceptance waves are over right?
was there a wave this weekend lmao
donāt think so
peak i aināt gettin in š¤£
idk
irrel school
let boycott it
for ppl who got in
dont go fr
fr
for those who got in
think how hard they made u work to find ur descision
they literally teasing u
just for that yall should reject their offer
ong
I almost withdrew my app trying to view my admission, for all u cs kids dw im rejecting slo so thatās one more slot š©
Bru i dont even care about slo anymore
Cal Poly business or ASU business?
ASU
its T20
unless you wanna stay in cali
then CPSLO prob better
I donāt need to stay in Cali, Iām definitely open to going to other places, Iām just having a hard time picking between the two
I hate arizona and I really don't want to go to cal poly, but ASU >>>>
ASU is probably your best bet lmfao
more resources too
On one hand cal poly is looked up to more, but just comparing business schools and opportunities I feel like ASU has better resources
both are very frat/party schools so if that's up your alley
Itās not š
me neither š
(it probably is insane that I dislike cal poly this much and started the megathread but yk)
shit happens
Hm why do you dislike it so much
If I get into UCSB tomorrow thatāll get me out of this hole picking between these two choices but I doubt itāll happen
Also I guess Iām biased towards cal poly cuz I just feel lucky I even got in
the energy I got when I toured was very "bro"-centric. I felt like a high school in my area that was known for sports and physical violence and nicotine addictions. However, if I get the Frost scholarship I pretty much have to go to Cal poly lmfao
that is awesome tho
like if you got it that's amazing!!
Yeah but now that means I have to pick š
It doesnāt help that ASU is so looked down upon for some reason
I'm a bit cynical so take my opinion with a grain of salt. I'm also unathletic and a math major
yeahhh you're also in a2c which is a shitfest of toxicity. I work with a guy who graduated from ASU and started his own theater company and is extremely successful, so it really doesn't matter where you go
its just what you make of it
Thatās true
Iām also kinda thinking about UCR, but I feel like cal poly and ASU outweighs it for business
Wdym?
Honestly just wait to see what comes in and then weigh it all
Cal poly is Soooo much better then UCR
More students + money = more connections, funding, research, opportunities, networking, yada yada yada
Yeah thatās what Iām thinking
More students = crowding = harder to graduate
that's also true
Funding is about the same lol
Oh yeah for sure, itās just that I donāt have many left
Research ops are prob better at cal poly
Since itās undergrad focuses so funding goes to undergrad, not PhD students
same here, but I've got like 3 colleges pending (one appeal and 2 decisions) that I'm waiting on
But Iām really just focused on their business schools
Up to you, but arguably cal poly is the better school
I feel the same way in general, I just donāt know for business specifically
Itās pretty good at cal poly
watch some virtual tours and discussions of cal poly
Yeah Iāll do that
A lot of people go to (I forgot the name likeTop 5 business companies?)
Whatever equivalent is to Faang
For that, visit both ASU/cal poly for which vibes you like more
Yeah I hear itās a good place to be recruited by the big Bay Area companies
I visited ASU already, cal poly is next
I would immediately cross out UCR with those two options imho
Yeah I agree
Any transfer decisions yet?
watch out for big bay area companies tho š they're laying off like thousands of people all the time (it's profitable to lay off people )
I feel like I got rejected since I havent gotten mine
Damn
I haven't gotten my decision and I'm first-year
Thatās everywhere
š¤
like amazon just laid off like 1000 people and microsoft did too
yeah I gathered but yk to be weary of that
i havenāt gotten mine either :(
I mean⦠if itās like that everywhere, shouldnāt even factor into it
Both schools are located in really nice areas though
Personally I chose cal poly over asu because of the heat š
Oh yeah itās hot as hell
Isla vista is hella far from Santa Barbara
I realized I couldnāt bear the heat and slo > asu for engineering
Donāt count on going to Santa Barbara often
The campus is nice though
I donāt think anyone has yet so dw
I live in the bay so SLO is 3 hours away and SB is about 4 hours away
Cal Poly???????????????
I've only heard the opposite
Fingers crossed for tomorrows UCSB decision
dead school without any social life
when is slo even coming out
Cal Poly has frat parties
Nah cal poly is a party school
3 UC denials + Poly denial + Pomona not even giving my major got me expecting more rejects
There was a big St Patricks Party that happened iirc
Just look it up, it clearly says party school
St. features
every school says party school
Fratties
Yeah, St. Fratties lmao
Dude I got denied from every uc except Riverside (didnāt apply to merced), so far I got waitlisted at every private school I applied, and I got rejected at SDSU today, so I feel like Iām super lucky to even get accepted to cal poly
If I don't get to SLO, I think I won't get into any UCs so the SLO decision is much more important than I thought
What about TAG?
š
Bro cal poly for cs is hard af
Yeah CS is hyper competitive here
š indeed
If u donāt get in for that dont let that discourage u
Cal Poly Pomona is a good school snorts copium
I got my admission withdrawn since I forgot to submit transcripts š
I sent mine because I was like "this is the only decent school who'll take my ass" so I made sure to do everything they say
wait yeah wtf
Hey maybe you might get into slo too
grats man
Thanks man
thats not a parchment rule
that's your HS/CC/Uni
they set the price or choose not to put one
Although I am worried about how employed perceive where you went to school
okay i need to rant about the Cali Pub system rq
what major
the only people who look down on u for a school are one of these 3 groups
Law: self-explanatory
Finance/Biz: If the school is ass for finance/biz which it isn't
other highschoolers: obviously
going back to this
who the fuck decided to turn the UC/CSU/CC system into isolated fucking campuses that don't coordinate and willingly admit well over 20% of OOS students into their enrollment
Thatās what happens when you connect schools over a brand and nothing else
everyone always pulls the card of "oh you didn't get into the good UCs/CPSLO? shit j go to UCR/UCM/other CSUs if u can't go OOS" no that's not how this works
CSUs are inherently inferior, they were designed as such and along with UCR and UCM have far far far less opportunities than other schools
But yeah thereās definitely some inequality with the campuses
they literally give worse experiences, yet we choose ways of admitting kids that outright pushes smart kids to either foot a huge bill OOS or go to a worse school
UCs/CSUs should work off of a unified admissions process with ranked choice and sub 10% OOS admits
everyone gets ONE UC/CSU
I only got reject or waitlisted at 4 of the ucs and i feel so negative about it
that's it
Fin aid has to be the same across all
results in everyone getting a campus
As an instate student with decent grades and ecās
instead of people getting spots at multiple as well as OOS taking spots they shouldn't(when we can't serve our state why should we serve OOS)
I saw someone w a 4.7 UC gpa get rejected at UCI UCSD and UCLA, and I did too w a 4.6
the system is completely broken
Nah I was in the same mindset cuz I feel like I worked so hard for nothing, but honestly youāll go where youāre supposed to be, donāt stress too much
I got waitlisted at davis was a 4.3 and 300ish hrs of community service and a unique internship
CSUs imo should outright ban OOS admission
As a transfer student, I think the UC system bumped up the Transfer quota tbh
wait did slo come out today
they have marginally but its done nothing to solve the issue
forcing people to go transfer isn't a solution
Theyāre ranked as national though right
its deferring teh sisue
nope
none of them are
CPSLO is literalyl ranked regionally
UCs are national obv
When is slo coming bruh
so they should be admitting OOS
I've been hearing like that they are making the Freshmen admit rate lower for shit like "prestige" while making student go to CCs
such scammers
but not 20%
Thatās what I was asking about
oh yeah
but OOS people don't pay taxes that subsidize the uni
at our tax rates we're entitled to having a reasonable chance at attending our flagship campuses
Its just crazy to think that ucsdās acceptance dropped around 10%
not being forced to attend OOS flagships which push kids in that state to do the same
California has been pushing the CCs which ngl is pretty good, but at the same time as I look through this Admission season, I'm like wow lmao
it creates a cycle that hurts everyone
Au sd
its terrible
CCs are a way of pushing the issue elsewhere
Tf they even doin over there
WHY R THEY SO ANNOYING
CC good, I haven't paid anything for my GEDs
they need to solve the issue at its source and thats First Year Admission
CCs are there as a backup plan not the first plan
Like shit man, I would fucking hate paying for fucking Art History or English 101
dude jfc stop acting like a baby
if you're doing it for cost alone sure
š
but its not a replacement for the 4 year uni
bro took it personally
bro ur the one screamin over a CSU
Dont shame csu :(
im not
lmao
its j funny asl to be screamin over any uni
i just wanna know is it that bad
they be playin bruh they havenāt said shit
This Admission season has been so freaking wack with all these damn UCs making their admit rate abysmal for clout š
they got 11 more days
thats what im saying
swap the system to A sub 10% oos enrollment, and B ranked choice unified admission
Then again, UC has a bit of a housing crisis among other controversies
one campus per person
I think another thing is their housing, they donāt want to get into the same situation as SC
instead of up to 9
But itās just dumb
its not a capacity issue, its a poor admission strategy issue
about 45k kids each year make up the top 9% of Cali HS grads
campuses each admit about 15k
so there should be enough room for ALL of them
well yea
yet nearly half don't get admitted anywhere
well i havent recieve anything from cal poly today so either I'm getting rejected or it is not coming today
its because you can apply to multiple campuses and get multiple acceptances
but like a lot of people get into merced riverside and ucsc
which shouldnt be the system
wtf whatās wrong w options
UCSC and Riverside I've seen 4.4UC waitlists
This actually brings me to a question, do similar amounts of people apply to a campus such as UCR or Merced compared to campuses such as UCI or UCSD?
you take spots from others?
šššš
Honestly if I couldve made my application campus specific i wouldve
yes
if everyone got admitted to only one UC campus
no shame in admitting it wtf
nearly everyone would have a spot
why would you take the chance
what if you donāt get in
plus waitlist exists for a reason
Anagh they would be talking to each ofher
im saying the UCs should switch to ranked choice unified admissiosn
you rank the campuses
then itās just scuffed
they give you one
So you would always have a safety because they would talk
like ucsd
what?
but like for all of em
Fhe fact they donāt communicate right now is an issue
yes, which makes more sense because if you're in state there's no reason to have 2 unis
ykwim
Itd be like tap so youd be guaranteed at least one school
pov the uk system
the UK system objectively works better than ours
Yeah but itāll never happen because UC is a business
No not literally
But as in thatās how the money is made
it's not
As a brand
they're state funded
they're not a brand nor should they be searching for outside sources of revenue
our shit tax rate exists for a reason
Thatās true
also to add on
Oos tuition is meant to be making up for those taxes but it doesnt when they offer financial aid to oos
if UCs want to fuck everyone over they should at least give reasons why people were given their reject/wl
because how the fuck am i supposed to appeal when you wont tell me whats wrong
UIUC told me outright what i did well and what i did bad
so ik exactly what to do
My opinion is that they should always prioritize spots and financial aid to people instate
you guys wont
there should be a hard cap on OOS/INTL admits entirely
20% is too big when so many in state kids are denied spots
Especially qualified instate kids getting denied
not even qualified
like severely overqualified
the stat denials im seeing aren't noraml
I dont wanna be one of those excuse people but I genuinely believe i shouldve gotten a spot at at least one of the ucs
what r ur stats/maj
ASU has the better business program on paper, but man is it hard to just pass up an opportunity like SLO
Animal sci, 4.33gpa, 300hrs community service at an animal rescue, competitive horseback riding, and 100hrs of a veterinary internship
ion see congrats anywhere
I took almost all of the upper level sciences at my school too
jesus christ this was a denial??????????????
what the fuck
Waitlist
if this was CS i could kinda believe it tho still would maek no sense
I had some more minor ecs too
Idk thats why i find it so frustrating
Davis doesnt have any place to write letter of continued interest either
My guess is my personal statements were bad but i had them reviewed by multiple people so š¤·
Im probably just going to end up going to slo and trying to transfer to davis or ill just lose my deposit if I make it off the waitlist
I heard people had luck physically mailing letters of interest but I dont know if its worth my time
my essays ik were bad but like the stats/ecs have to be enough after a certain point
like they have to understand that some people just can't write to such a degree, and when our majors have nothing to do w it it shouldnt be an issue
Yeah like i think i overestimated the importance of ecs
it seemed like this year they werent as important
I didnāt cure cancer but i had a lot of major centric ec
yeah, but htat makes no sense
essays really shouldnt have that big of an effect because of the amount of variables involved in them
you can gauge someones ability to participate in ECs through their background HS and courseload so yk how much of their free time they're utilizing
but you can't expect even the smartest most capable HS student to be an amazing writer, esp not narrative
Also the instructions said that the essays arent graded on writing ability like what else are you grading on
You could make any topic amazing with writing ability so its definitely not content
yeah
and content itself i hated
like please ask me why X school(doesnt work for UCs but they should've done some sort of Why UC) and why major
not PIQs
PIQs are BS essays that literally don't give you a picture of what a student can contribute in your school
it shouldn't matter how interesting my childhood was, because that's out of my control
its not my fault my dad wasn't an alcoholic or my parents didn't divorce so I can't write anything interesting for you guys
Its convenient that its all one application but i think my piq wouldāve been so much better if I could explain my interest in the specific campus and programs they have
Like davis has really unique animal sci programs and that wouldve been a great thing to talk about but you cant say anything campus specific with the way its set up rn
yeah i really don't like the system
either all campuses have one app and one admissions team, or they each have their own
a mix doesn't work
because if you want to see my fit you literally can't
each UC has different fits and i cant express any specific ones
my friend got into cal poly today š! iām still waiting for slo to get back to me but iām happy for him
what time?
idk the exact time it updated but he checked his portal 3 hours ago and saw the acceptance
was that the last of acceptances???
i hope not
when do you think they are going to start handing out rejections?
majority of my school hasn't heard back yet
so
idk
By April 1st for sure
how can i convince my parents about cpslos business admin program?
specifically accounting
Just go
are you in state
if so cost alone should be enough of a motivator
no other UC outside of Berkeley to my knowledge offers a comparable undergradf biz school if it all
other CSUs will be worse
so there's no downsides to getting the degree there though a place like IU Kelley would be better
As opposed to what?
Iām thinking about going there for the same program
Udub but undeclared
Itās just because theyāre more well known
Ah
Yeah I think thatās just a personal choice
Check out the campuses with your parents
SLO is the best cal state but if theyāre hesitant because of the fact itās a cal state, maybe do some research and show your parents what other people say about the school for business
Like how a lot of Bay Area companies hire from them
And their focus on ālearning by doingā
they dont offer undergrad biz
No
Im honestly deciding between SLO and ASU for business
And Iām waiting for a few more college decision
Slo? They gave me almost full ride
really? their need based didnāt even satisfy my efc
what the heck
they sent me a scholarship for i think $5k
and then rest in grants
maybe im dirt poor
They offered $900 to my friend lol she said it was insulting
but i dont want to go bruh bc i wanna go community and then transfer
r are they out yet
they had a big wave two weeks ago ig they rolling some out till end of march
please gimme my decisin already
transfers were up at 3 for portal
mine didn't update
it's been good you guys but i'm gonna [redacted] myself
gg we got rejected
when did you get your decision?
I didn't
But they send out in waves
U kind of already know u didn't get in if u haven't gotten anything
Ripppp for us
"
Thank you for applying to Cal Poly. We have received your application. No determination has been made at this time." It's ogre
nah they roll some acceptances out still
bro whats the point of try harding for 4 years in high school just to get rejected from everything
u cs?
Like they couldnāt even crop the gif right šššš
i got so many Uc wl
Barely any not even worth hoping for tbh
I haven't gotten anything yet for mine, is it possible that I may have gotten rejected?
my gpa not even the strength of my app and I got slo and somehow not mid-high tier uc
U don't know 100% until rejections come out
But don't count on it
are they still handing out acceptances right now?
tfw you have to wait until the 31st for rejection letters
or is it rejection time?
shit is CBT but worse fuck man
I don't think they've handed out WL yet
Iām honestly just praying for a WL now
wdym?
Iām just gonna go to cheaper slo
refreshes two more times
"Thank you for applying to Cal Poly. We have received your application. No determination has been made at this time"
I'm about to kms
thats literally what it says for me
It's over...
i have a 4.9 W still nothing lmfao(cs things ig)
i rather them just be up front. It's not like these 3 weeks give them any insight into yield
did u not get into good ucs with that?
also seems like its just as bad for computer engineering
I did which has made my demand for cal poly go down a bit
CE definitely is close to as hard as CS
I have been refreshing for 10 minutes straight, It's over...
engineering/stem kinda just built differetn
yep
i feel bad for anyone just going into hs now
4 years from now itll be even more of a bloodbath
engineering acceptance rates have like halved since 2018/19
Definitely, maybe the "cured cancer" EC will become a reality with how hard you have to work
I'm just waiting for one CS person to say they got in
Then its actually over
how do you guys feel about davis compared to cal poly. I got in there but ive heard so many people saying its bad
I have been refreshing my Portal, the SLO Transfer Thread in CC, and the megathread in the r/calpoly
kinda discouraging me
if you like the location it's totally a good option
i dont mind it
Definitely not your typical computer school location, but as far as education it's great in its own right
u seen any cs ppl?
EE started
My boy got in for EE
well my choices are davis, sjsu, and cpp
Since EE started that means STEM major started so...
tbh i don't know much about CE but i would lean davis if i was applying CS
but sjsu and cpp are also great you should definitely visit first
As a trasnfer, if SLO didn't take me I can just assume that none of the UCs will
nah slo cs is really hard
CAL POLY POMONA IS A GOOD SCHOOL FURIOUSLY INHALES COPIUM
did visit both, cpp meh but I liked sjsu
I could never go to Davis⦠but it depends on your priorities. If you only want to spend all your time studying, hey Davis is good for thatā¦but if you want to go around and explore your surrounding area moreā¦there really isnāt anything to explore
Dry ass area
I mean if you want to stay near the Bay Area then sure
