can this also be used for UW bothell?
brothell?
i got UW honors!!
how do you know if it’s out?
you get an email, it rolls from mar 15 to apr 15
🙌🙌
hows UW's Electrical & Computer Engineering program?
is it possible to transfer from Electrical & Computer Engineering to Computer Science in Paul Allen school?
Transferring to CS is nearly impossible, the vast majority earn entry through direct admission.
Both programs are competitors with other top institutions like Johns Hopkins, CalTech, and MIT
hmm is john hopkins considered in same league for CS/CE?
i hear it's tough but is it still possible though?
For research their programs our outstanding
what are the job prospects from Electrical & Computer Engineering at UW vs CS at UW?
Possible, but generally minimal chances. It is a rigorous and very long process
I’m not majoring in either of those so I’m not the most sure. I’d suggest you check out their website.
But we have headquarters for Microsoft, Google, and Boeing in WA state so you’re sure to find something
yeah UW location is super for tech companies
Aren't Microsoft and Google software companies though? Why'd they hire ECE graduates? I'm thinking ECE focus would be hardware
has anyone gotten their uw materials in the mail yet?
nope
I have
ive only gotten this allen school card thingy
havent gotten the paper acceptance letter
yes they sent letter in mail
no you didnt
i havent gotten one either
Anyone get an email abt the honors program yet?
Still waiting
i got into UW poli sci and i love the school but i’m not sure it’s the best for my major
i was also thinking of doubling up like data analytics or econ and poli sci something like that
Have yall received your fin aid?
my portal shows that they're processing finaid right now and will come out with it "soon"
where’s your portal? is it where you got your acceptance?
si
the financial aid section is a pain in the dick to get to tho
Anyone has UW admit students server? Plz dm me thx
where do i go from after going to the portal?
Just click rhe link that says “financial aid status”
Thats how i get to it, i cant be bothered to figure out how to navigate there
random q but whats pre social sciences?
Basically taking prerequisites before becoming an official major like sociology or psych
ohhhh okayy thanks!
uw really gave me the worst finaid possible
literally gave me a pell grant and called it a mfing day
I got pretty damn good fin aid but i would still be in like 35k of debt if i went here :(
any one here finished writing their appeal for uw yet ?
hows UW Electrical & Computer Engineering program? how does this major compare with their CS major?
meeee
is UW's Electrical & Computer Engineering more prestigious than the CS major?
I got so much aid from UW that I’m shooketh… did others get very generous financial aid packages?
Yes
Interesting. I’m like shocked seeing how lots of kids just get loans, others like me only gotta pay a few thousand a year
Who’s instate here?
can i call them and see why i didnt get into cs or is that weird? like idk i heard ppl can call and ask abt it
They wont tell you
Too many factors/half of it is just chance
Especially if youre out of state
yea I did somehow
is there a channel for admitted students?
Abt to commit
I got like zero money lmbo but i think its cuz they know i get other benefits (veteran associated)
Yeah people who get veterans benefits don’t usually get much rip
Ya its np tho it makes sense and im thankfully going w good benefits
you are instate right?
Yep
shoot im gonna be screwed for oos 💀
how much aid did they give you? they gave me some but i am ooo so not enough to cover tuition
i got no aid and I really needed it
i also got no aid
Lol yea
Welp wish me luck everyone! I just spent two days staying up trying to polish my appeal letter
wait can u appeal for presciences?
You can appeal waitlists/rejections.
If you send in a very good appeal letter, then it's basically an auto-accept. You just have to sound like you will 100% commit.
ohhh okay so i wouldnt be able to?
No because you were already accepted. You will just have to take the prerequisites. You can contact your advisor to see how you can knock out as many of those as you can early on and put in the most competitive app to the school later on
ohhh okay i seeee
You cant appeal to waitlists anymore but you can with rejections
Its an auto accept? Is there a way u can go further because I did talk ab how uw is meant for me and will always meant for me
I just wana get accepted bro ;-;
I mean, that's according to someone who works for undergrad diversity services who's helped people appeal and get accepted. I don't know what "secret sauce" there is to an appeal letter, but the UW likes to accept those who do appeal because it can bump up their yield rate once they accept that student.
Alr thanks for the heads up, I really hope i get in then even if i dont get in for my major
also can i get the name for the guy you know who works for uds
How is the student life in UW?
I recommend following @uofwa on Instagram. Every day for the next couple days, they're doing "a life in the day of a college student" with current UW undergrads at the Seattle campus. It's pretty neat, they cover a lot of topics.
Anyone know where i can find my financial aid package?
anyone know what the best halls and dorms are?
North campus brings college vibes, west brings city vibes.
North is next to Greek row and business classes and the quad. West is near the Ave (food! Shopping centers!), Seattle transportation, that sort of thing
All of the newer North halls are good. Elm, Lander, and Maple are the best on west because of close-by amenities. But if you want a Learning Living Community, they have an honors, engineering, arts, and business ones.
I thought appeals sent before April 10th will get read and notified on May 1st?
Anyone know if this is true or not because the last time i checked on the uw website it said before april 10th the person will get notified by May 1st
can any current students talk about the major system is like? is it easy to switch or do you have to reapply and aren't guaranteed to get in? also how easy is it to get classes for your major or just like classes in general too
🥳 now just to complete a billion different prerequesites lol
Yeah UW sucks
got in for pre sciences-- is it worth the commit?
What do u want to major in
To declare a major in capacity-constrained classes, the application process is like applying to college a second time -- it's intense, anxiety-inducing, and very long. You might just go to another school.
something computer science related
i see, thank you! i did get into another uni with direct admission the major i wanted so i think i rather not go through uni applications 2.0
Yeah there no way you’ll get CS unfortunately, just go to a different school
If you got a cs direct admission
Yeah anything having to do with CS/Computer Engineering, if you didn't get FDA, you might as well go to another school.
Anyone here who got waitlisted for CS but were given pre sciences?
do you know how many ppl are on the waitlist?
I think it’s p selective to get on it
But no clue in terms of how many
I only know one other person from my school who's on the waitlist
If you're waitlisted for CS, it's highly unlikely you'll get off the waitlist. If you want to study CS, you might as well go somewhere else.
its the first year theyre doing cs waitlist how do u know
yeah hoping to hear a decision soon but they said it could take til june 30 😐
UW is on par with Stanford and CMU, and they are the most competitive school at UW. Their waitlist as a university is huge, which means few students get accepted off of it, less alone with direct admission into CS.
This waitlist isn’t the traditional one tho
yeah weve been admitted to the UW
It’s a separate type for students who already got admission into udub
just there is a separate waitlist for CS applicants and only some of those who have been admitted make it
I see. Well, if you get off the waitlist then congratulations. Otherwise, you should've already made a commitment to another school.
yeah thanks - committed to UW atm
Since they don't have any historical information about waitlists, then there's no way that anyone could know your chances. I'm still assuming they're just as slim, considering that the school is still very well known.
If you didn’t get CS direct y’all aren’t getting in
That's what I was thinking lol ^^
It sucks but it’s true
Their admission process is cruel honestly. You can get accepted "pre-sciences" aka go to the college while having it be 100% impossible to go into the major you want.
yeah its dumb as shit im sorry to say
It's like Harvard accepting you, but you can't study your major, you can study under-water basket weaving there tho lol
but well see
Same with engineering you don’t even get a major you have to compete and rank what disciple engineering you want and then they pick one for you
worst case ill try to transfer to a diff school after two years
Imagine spending 60k and u don’t get ur prefers major
Yeah but the waitlist allows students to be in for direct admission if there’s space available
It's really, really cruel. I know there's also a lot of people that want to study business, but Foster is getting increasingly competitive too. It's no longer 30-50% admission lol, it's becoming more like 20%
@glass hare u already commit uw?
And that's STANDARD admission
I commited to uwb
ah nice
Bro their ar for cs is 3 percent and they prob accepted more than their class size
LOL exactly, and about 10% of all admitted students get FDA status.
cs waitlisted for seattle tho?
It's terrible
I mean honestly might as well go to UW Bothell for CS, they still have decent programs
(or so I hear)
They opened a lot more space for cs this year. That’s what they said at the admitted student day this year
(it's for the "seattle cs rejects")
That’s like a extra 5 people
😂
And the number of people that applied skyrocketed too :D
Evens out to be the same competitiveness, if not worse.
Where did u commit?
main campus
I swear it’s harder to get uw cs than mit
I mean since I'm an INFO major I get to take a number of CS classes at the Allen school anyways soo ...
¯_(ツ)_/¯
Or Stanford
well see
It seriously is lol
uw cs in state is like 25ish
Oos is less than 3
(as of 2021)
I was considering going for the major at Seattle since I did all the pre reqs through running start but it’s also a waste of time for me
i wouldn't be surprised if in state has gone down to more like 20%
It's going to keep going down lol
yeah i never did running start but i heard it helps
It's also sad cause I know a grand total of one student from my school who got CS freshman direct, everyone else (a couple dozen) got rejected CS lo
Not really. None of my running start friends got in DA but 17 regular high school students got in at my school
are u in state?
oof
Yeah I live about 20 minutes north lol. i went to campus again today too 💀
I just hope they overadmit and let a lot of the ppl from the waitlist in 😂
yeah like 10+ from my school got in but ik at least 3 of em are going somewhere else instead
They won’t for cs lol
They did last year I believe
They accepted 11% of 62k applications this year
thats bad for this year bru
Yeah
And they hope they get about 8k freshman commitments this year
I hope you get in man, but the odds are stacked against you for cs
3 ppl aren’t accepting their spot? That’s actually crazy
yeah two usc one brown
Ik one person from my school but that’s it
I’m from jersey lmao no one got in
yeah
OOS is rough
But I think legally they have to admit instate
Yeah their a public uni
That’s actually crazy
Was this confirmed at admitted students day or something?
I mean that's a skewed number but it's definitely bad
Yes lol 😂
did u go to the info mock lecture thing at asd? @umbral scaffold
Also, I know a few business numbers:
- of all business applications, 300 got freshman direct admit (crazy)
- 1/5 accepted LOL
- didn't get total apps number so don't ask
yes
i came like 5 mins late tho 😂
lowk kinda boring
What other schools did u get into
it was so boring
of course it was lunch hour
whatd u think of it
very very boring though
yeah i was thinking of info
Purdue cybersecurity and uw bothell cs
as backup
made me question if i should be an INFO major 😂
But I'm still very happy with my selection.
yeah what does the curriculum look like?
I'll definitely be trying to double degree though.
Purdue the move
You just need an insane number of major credits to fulfill their requirements.
Eh I’m not very interested in the main focus of cybersecurity
I don’t want to risk going OOS for something I’ll potentially won’t like
Thankfully though if you were to schedule yourself smart, then you could take upperdivision classes as soon as your third/fourth quarter at UW
(for INFO)
i was thinking of data science specialization under info
Especially when I already have the running start credits
Sameeeee
i heard info is p manageable to get in to after
And I want to double degree with Business (major in supply chain mgmt)
I was looking at udub subreddit and it seems that info acceptance rate dropped to 30%
Yeah I heard that their 200s are pretty easy lol
can u get into foster that easy?
For this cycle ^
Except you just have to take a LOT of coding classes. thankfully i already took ap csa java here but i don't want to do python or R :\
No
hb minor?
Uw bothell prob the move then
U have to take an exam for foster right?
They demand a lot LOL -- you need 60 credits, you need to do a bunch of tests, you need to finish 8 classes which is like a year and a half of stuff
oh bru
Yeah a lot of ppl from there land great internships
yeah that's a lot more manageable
yeah ill prob hit that cuz business isnt that deep like cs or data science 😭
for standard admission, yes. and you have to do calculus and an english course as prerequisites, chs and ap credit/dual don't count lol
Is there a ds major at uw
no
I feel like for software engineering roles, ur skills matter so much more than the institution itself especially with leetcode
only specializations under some majors
they only have it as a "concentration"/specialization
Under CS, INFO, Statistics
u dont even need a degree to get a software eng job nowadays lmfao
obv it helps
but still
Yeah there’s boot camps and stuff
exactlyyyy and honestly you could become one with an INFO major, you don't need to do CS ahahahaha
Yeah fs
william
what is the curriculum like tho
cuz if its anything like that mock lecture
@fathom rose where did u commit to?
oh yeah that mock lecture was so awful
Rutgers
we're probably going to have him as a professor first year anyways.
bro spent like a half hour just showing random pictures
Oh nice
Did u get direct into cs?
except that mock lecture was more of just the "informational" piece of INFO. most of the classes i hear are much more collaborative and you're graded mostly on projects, not on quizzes/tests
Nah they admit by school but it’s pretty easy to get in
that's just so that you understand how information works. but it was just delivered sooo boringlyyyy
i thought info was a mix of cs and business but from that it seems likes its a lot more softer stuff
i wanted to leave the class 😭
which i hate
well they create a HUGE differentiator with business.
huh
The data science route for info is pretty cool from what I’ve heard
remember INFO is the intersection of "people, tech" NOT "business"
info systems at cmu looks so fucking interesting
so you gotta minor in business if you want a business feel
im praying that i clear that wl 🙏
i was rejected ed from their school :D
😂
Does cmu give a lot of aid?
no LOL
CMU is the worst private school to go in terms of aid
Oh shit u got into cmu?
no
Like, the worst.
Nyu
but ik chances are like 0
Oh them too
Purdue was 45k for me
Northeasten
CMU is so expensive.
Yeah the massachussetts and new york colleges are bad
I actually got 20k off neu
and nobody should go to northeastern lol
isnt there a northeastern campus in seattle
IMO I think paying more than 35k for a degree like cs is not worth it
ok
They got like 50 satellite campuses lmao
yes LOL
Yeah if it’s top 10, but after that it’s not much of a difference
yeah i just heard a lot of ppl applied to northeastern bc its no essay 💀
Yeah probably
Heard their AR was like 6 this year
Is waitlist common at CMU?
I know like 10 people who got in lol
Have u checked A2c Reddit if a lot of ppl got waitlisted
bro fuck their IS major is so sexy tho 😩
That school is a fucking feeder
i have
it hasnt been that active
even this discord cmu one
it just seems to be rolling out hella slow rn
i think everyone is confused
Info at uw is scary too because of the max two applications
which is why i applied there and not to business school, cause business accepts unlimited apps ✨
also info provides you a good technical framework/foundation for other majors like business
it's also really good for if you want to go into the medical field.
What r u majoring in
Yeah fs
I got FDA to INFO
And I hope to apply for a double degree with business in my sophomore year
I would’ve considered transferring to uw Seattle cs from community college but you have to wait till the spring
And I already have my credits or
Yeah it's honestly perfect. Plus I got over 50 AP and other credits so that extra time will be used to pursue the double degree 🥳
And don't gotta pay more than $10k/year either so hallelujah
I mean it's honestly a good plan still, I think that they especially like students from Cascadia college for some reason lol
But they hate UW bothell kids????!!
But by the time it’s spring, I could already have done 1/2 of my cs degree at uwb and apply for internships
Might as well just stay at uwb
Yeah
So i really wanna go to uws but im enrolled at uwt ik theres cross campus enrollment but ik its only available for the classes that arnt capacity constrained
How likely am i to do the cross campus enrollment for engineering classes? I really want to go to the campus in seattle since its closer to my grandparents and I can take care of them easier
Virtually impossible, sorry to be a realist. Engineering is already at capacity and UW discourages students taking cross campus enrollment because they want you to stay at the satellite.
Engineering is some of the hardest to get admitted to anyways so if you were already admitted to Tacoma they’d expect you to take engineering classes there.
Yea thats what I realized ngl but what do you think about me taking my prerequisites at seattle, is that even possible?
Also what if i just finished first year at tacoma and apply as a transfer to the seattle campus, is that even possible
I mean, the best you could do is try a summer quarter and do prerequisites that way. But during the school year, the likelihood is basically minimal.
I’m not sure for UW Tacoma but I’m pretty sure the policy is the same for there as for Bothell — they discourage students from “campus hopping” and the transfer rate is especially difficult if not impossible.
yo omfg there's a uw chat??
anyone who's interested in philosophy? i just want someone to have a debate w
It’s always been here
