#University of Michigan (2022-2023)
1 messages Ā· Page 30 of 1
but if u were talking prestige Duke prolly takes it
both r solid tho fs I would look at the financials the most of those were the two you are considering
yeah?
One big complaint about umich is
The math department super hard
specifically calc 2 for some odd reason
well i hate calc āØ
so people suggest taking it at a Cc and transferring the credit
im a stats person full and through
ah im not getting math credits, i took an ib sl course
what does that mean
no wait i have ap stats
i take full ib classes, and they have sl/hl
kinda like major/minoring
and unis dont rly take credits for sl, you have to score a certain amount for hl
I c
yea so like
I think for LSA cs u need calc 1 and 2 at least
Idk I havenāt really looked at the reqs yet
well i have to take those classes for sure
and probably ask for help in them lmao
idk what it is i just dont rly like calculus
theres stats requirements :>
Data science gang
I need a 5 on BC Calc to skip
I swear if I gotta take that again ima be so mad
actually this is a hell more detail
Computer Science Program ā LSA __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Fall 2012 ā Winter 2023 Guide Applies to students who enter the ...
yeah u need calc 1/calc 2
this may sound stupid but can i completely ignore calculus if i do psych
i found a psych worksheet and i dont see calc i just see statistics
i like calc but my teacher this yr sucks ass and im not learning anything
i like statistics
i also doubt i'd need it for a polisci minor LMAO
kekw a mood
ill decide more ig once they send the cs thing that they just cant have time to also decide on within like 3 months
which other college are you thinking
and thats why umich is better
so true
u h well im more worried about my financial aid offer
wait so is comp sci not out yet?
its essentially down to this and a safety
rd doesnt have it yet
im confused
theres a seperate selection for cs
hmm whats the safety school? has it offered you full financial aid?
i applied for cs rd but got waitlisted
u got waitlisted to umich?
ye ima just take calc 1 this upcoming year then calc 2 at a community college virtually over next summer and then transfer the cred
oh.. are you in-state? if yes, you have a chance
then u wont get a cs decision. they make a decision once u get admitted
this is genius
I heard calc at umich is ass
im gonna forget about this remind me to do this
I do not wanna take Lin alg
ye they said calc 2 at umcih is the hardest math class
They said calc 3 4 and Lin alg
Are the easiest
Isnāt Calc 2 just BC Calc
Like
i just havent heard great opinions about easier calc profs
Rigor wise
ĀÆ_(ć)_/ĀÆ
Damn
iirc i think calc is taught by like mostly grad students and itās really hard, i could be thinking of the wrong class but im unsure
Yea it is but umich math is rigorous af I heard
I can never do polar and series again tho
well we will cross that bridge eventually lmao
aye
chris have u signed up for a campus day yet?
Nah not yet kinda got a packed schedule
yeah im 99% sure the only obstacle would be LSA's core requirements needing a QR (quantitative reasoning) course, but statistics or anything psychometric-ish would satisfy
thank god
Quantitative reasoning course ?
is campus day like an admitted student visit event?
yeah
Pre sure even calc covers that
I was told by an alumni that stats 250 is hard as well
hella kids flunk it apparently
If yāall have a lot of AP credits my friend who went to umich told me they took so little of his credits
It looks like ap stats
isnt stats 250 ap stats?
exactly
Dual enrollment though theyāll take those
They barely take AP and the ones they do have to be like 4 or 5
Iām hoping they take my dual enrollment I have 60 hours š®āšØ
holy shir
oop
thats a lot man
I went to an early college lol so I earned my associates degree b4 graduating high school
did u get an rd response yet or still waiting?
Still waiting š
Thank uuuu šø
and they take ur credits
how tf u still waiting
if they dont then dont go
ugh me too itās either that or move to texas which I really donāt wanna do
thereās a whole bunch of people that havenāt heard back yet, if you look on the umich rd thread on a2c people are pissed
umich seems pretty flexible with their dual enrollment creds I think
Oh
Thatās odd
its like they just missed a few š
Itās really annoying because itās like
Imo
Youāre so right
Honors isnāt worth I donāt think
Whyās that
idk if it is or not but imma apply for it anyways
Idk I looked into it a little bit
one essay is 250 words, other is 1k š¤©
wtf
it seems like thereās not much of a benefit
do you guys already live in Michigan
And itās harder classes
going for harder classes at UMich is kinda wacko behavior ngl
In simple terms it just looks like extra work for no gain
im in state!
if u want weather info lmk kekw
The fact that umich only takes 5s is crazy
Iām also in state
For APs
ive lived in michigan since last may i heard this winter was really weird
What info lmao I feel like it changes by year
i mean its wack as always
Ye it was super weird
Very warm winter
dude i drove my car all the way here from texas when i moved and I hit a deer on new years eve and totaled it
like it fucking poured today and was like 12c now its freezing
but still plenty of snow
Yea mine too
Iām jus ready for summer weather
I hate the in beteeen
Like where we are rn
Someone said the snow was wack because normally itās a trickley snow with a few big snowfalls but this year it was like boom boom boom huge storm around thanksgiving and Christmas and once in February but virtually no snow otherwise
bro how? we had like 3 and it only snowed like an inch for 2 of em š
This year was weird it was super warm then there was a few big snowstorms and thatās it
might what area u from lmao
One of the snow days no snow even fell š
Ann Arbor is like the one city I havenāt been able to visit
Iām from gr
Yuhhh
Word
I like west Michigan a lot
havenāt been much
the one time they didnt it snowed so much š so many friends almost got into accidents
Iāve been to Rockford
Itās funny because Iāve been a huge tigers fan since I was like 5 and now I live in michigan lol i canāt wait to go to Detroit this summer to see a game
Iām not even like a diehard baseball person I just like the tigers
Omg I know right, they didn't call one day down here and it was horrific, couldn't see more than a tiny bit out of your windshield
they gave us the next day off after that as compensation š
are you guys doing Greek life?
not sure if Iāll have time for it
My PFP is at Rockford HS :p
i dont think id like sororities
Tff
Air bnbd a house out there on a lake for a few days
for a small trip
while back
also I feel like I have a pretty good chance of getting accepted next week because the residency office sent me this personal email saying theyāre going to try to consider me for in state tuition but they need like 5 documents sent in the next 20 days
oooo
so like why would they do all that just to reject meā¦
hopefully
aye hopefully u got it
I don't plan on any greek life, maybe I'll fall into it though
hit a tigers game
me neither
ye im srill figuring out roomate situation
Still gotta decide whether I want to randomize or room w/ someone I know
have yāall ever heard of umich preferred transfer?
I might room with my friend from school but idk yet
what ym
The only sad thing about going to UMich is if I went to MSU I was gonna room with bestie š
dude msu gave jackass aid
msu too expensive and their programs r no where near as good as umich
my partner got this personalized letter from umich for their decision saying like, hey we canāt offer you direct admission to stamps but if you go to anywhere else for a year and get a 3.2 gpa you can immediately transfer in as a sophomore with no strings attached
We looked everywhere online I couldnāt find a thing about it
not sure
then thats a guaranteed transfer
theyd attend a different school for one year, afterwards can go umich stamps
Thatās super cool
Think ima start writing my Ross cross campus transfer in the summer
tbh ive never been to michigan LOL
so I donāt gotta do it during the year
oo well, how do like changing weather?
i've always liked the cold
What state u from
cause that and humidity can jump a lot
u in for a rude awakening
I looove New Orleans omfg
i lost weight so now i have like no insulation for the cold
šš
lol
I was dead set on Tulane when I was like 15 after visiting New Orleans
it's ok i have so many warm clothes
Driving there from Texas is like worlds ugliest drive though
im moving to NE missouri regardless
it truly is
its okay just have 2 coats and a pair of snow boots and ur fine
bros boutta see Canada goose for the first time
we always travel to cold places so im set
1 million times
I don't even have a winter coat and I got through this winter with a bunch of hoodies, not recommended though
it gets super wet + cold here like the humidity makes it biting cold
real
also tulane is stupid
this is the biggest mood kekw, i wore my fall coat for most of winter
im such a tulane slanderer
only my other coat when it heavily snowed
I used to really really like it but like not anymore lol
This winter was warmer than usual tho tbh
The campus is nice
it was more spotty
So itās valid
like id get warm after like a week
I loved the French quarter I have such fond memories of nola
and then drop again
a girl ik was one of 3 that got off the waitlist last year and every time she posts she's wasted
they have parties from dawn till dusk
I know one dude at Tulane and yeah that sounds about right
ive seen one classroom on her posts and it was her complaining about writing bio notes verbatim from the whiteboard
Frat hazing is like no joke at michigan
that's all they do š
umich is very work hard play hard from what Iāve heard
yeah michigan def has that too but it's so massive you can ignore it
yes i'm very much about that but tulane is smaller and it's harder to avoid
because the ENTIRE CITY is like that
always an excuse to get wasted
well umich has like a shit ton of students so
itās easy to get away from a crowd
all this talk i want to get in sooooooo bad im going to PUKE should I really call later this week
I donāt want to be annoying but like the honors deadline is when again?
April 5
april 5th 11:59 est
For LSA
how am I supposed to apply if I donāt know if Iām in till Friday
so like
my entire life ive been in TINY schools, like 40 kids in a grade tops
and im so tired of not being able to find new friends
call tues latest
it's cool but i'm tiiired of it
yes definitely
i'm excited to find niches that are still robust yknow
It didnāt really seem to me like something I wanted to do just because it looked like more work for no reason on top of an already difficult major
who me or cj?
like my grade is around 100 people, id say its rather nice
you
i really want umich honors for this reason (also central housing) but i can find community elsewhere
housing is the main thing tbh
tbh idk if I want to do honors im just gonna leverage that info in my conversation with the admissions office to pressure them to release decisions lmfao
just say you rly wanna apply and theres no way u can wihtout a decision
just beg for release lmao
ye from what I have been told by like current students and alumni
u shouldnāt have any issue meeting people
anyways imma go sleep bc im trying to not fuck up my sleep too much before my may exams š
hope u get the results biscut
in 8th grade my senior buddy i was assigned ended up getting rejected by washu like i did
and she's now a senior at michigan in psych, loves it
thank youuuuu ill let yall know
for those who heard back on friday were yāall ea or rd?
I think for me it was demonstrated interest tbh. I put things in my essay that were super specific to the school
Lol how do you still not have a decision yet. Thatās crazy.
Regular decision. Even if people were EA their application got moved to the RD pool if they got āpostponedā. The fact you have not received it yet is abnormal for both regular decision and EA. My best guess would be that you are qualified for the school (or else they would reject you), and basically you are on a waitlist 2.0 for students they want more than just the regular waitlist. The reason I say this is because they are probably seeing in the next few days if any students will immediately commit to other schools which will open up spots, which go to students like you first. I think your chances are really good to get in tbh and i hope the best for you
Thatās one possibility, the other is that they are so swamped that they literally didnāt have time to get to your application until now, and they didnāt want to postpone decisions longer just because of a few hundred applicants so they just released the majority on Friday and the next ones will release as they finish
This is a good possibility also, considering the application due date is so late (February 1) compared to other schools, the fact that a huge number of EA applicants were āpostponedā and pushed into the RD pool, and the graduate strike which might also have impacts and delays in direct or indirect ways
I would be very upset though considering you only have a few weeks after April 1 to make the enrollment deposit
Literally everyone here is praying and wishing the best for you so you can get in hopefully
The honors program is only for LSA right ? There is no honors program for engineering?
Canāt wait bc of Dearborn and Detroit š¤¤š¤¤š¤¤š¤¤
Nope, but Iām from Nebraska so Iām used to the Midwest weather š¤ š¤
Basically feels like shit for 4 months of the year w snow and ice and then itās super hot in summer and boiling where you canāt go outside
What yall estimating for CS Advance Selection rate this year
Considering RD round was hella waitlists
I feel like acceptance rates will be so low this year
I hope they don't absolutely obliterate the acceptance rate for it
considering before this shit started anybody could do CS š
I suspect they are just trying to weed out students who aren't 100% interested in CS
Before you could say you were interested in philosophy or smth but if you met the cs requirements you could just declare cs š
ugh i really really hope so, i found another girl who is also in the same boat as me so itās really weird
even down to having the summer 2023 application opened up on our end like i was mentioning
this is so nice thank you
i hope i donāt come in here and disappoint all of you next week šø
I hope not
@astral halo have u gotten into the CS advanced selection?
Iām actually curious about when the cs advanced selection would come out Cauz it says the decision for me is postponed to early April
Does anyone know?
probably this Friday
Itāll come on Friday
I had emailed them
They said a week after RD
Same timeline as EA
Does anyone know if itās easy to switch majors at UMich
I believe its rather possible early on within the same like college right
depends on what you're trying to switch into
I think my loci was very good and specific. also, I literally showed up to an admitted students event as a guest, talked to my ao, idk if that helped?? but the gamble payed off
I have not, it came out a week after EA decisions for EA folks so its likely this Friday as others have shared.
Ohhh thanks guys!
Does anyone know the email for the undergrad admissions office? Their website is giving me an error code
You would have to find your AO's email specifically and/or call them at 734-764-7433
there is no single admissions email
in your application essays or in the LOCI?
how do we find AO's email for our region? is there a website for it?
Should be here: https://admissions.umich.edu/explore-visit/contact-us
We've tried to provide all relevant admissions information on this site, but if you canāt find what you are looking for ā especially on our Get HelpĀ ā you may contact us directly. Please direct questions about financial aid to the Office of Financial Aid at 734-763-6600.
perfect, thanks @astral halo
oooo you decided on umich? congrats!!!
yessss!! thank you š š
See I find the wolverine amusing
cuz I was a wolverine in middle school. Left in high school. Now Iāve returned
woooo hope I see you on campus (have not committed yet but am heavily leaning)
i havent officially committed either but the only thing that might make me go elsewhere is if i cant do CS there
hope to see you on campus though :)
hi do we have to submit loci thru their emails for waitlisted people
i dont think they're really taking loci for waitlists, as locis were offered for people to do applying ea/rd
Yāall
What does this mean!!!!
They cancelled my fall app and admitted me to this I have no idea what this is
Is it prestigious or is this bad I have no idea
Not sure
This happened to one of my friends as well
she applied EA
Okay so itās required
I like
Itās so weird that theyāre doing this because I have 60 college credit hours
And I have a job I need to stay at this summer too
af
I hope so
congratulations though!
same happened to me iāve been trying to figure it out š
Thank you!!
Dude I know
Like
I am a 20 year old adult with rent and a full time job like girl how can I possibly leave and go there for the summer
Thank you!!!!
AYY CONGRATS ON GETTING IN!!
i really have no idea what that scholars things is but hopefully the credit stuff works out well!
I hope so too thank you so much!!!!
my main thing is do u like have to do the summer thing?
itās crazy how bridge starts a couple days before summer classes start
bc it seems like they want u to do 6 credits that summer
@tranquil imp from what I can tell, youāre required to go this summer, but it will help you in the long run with graduating
I think itās meant to give ppl from certain backgrounds a jumpstarted path or something
yeahhhh
I sent them an email because like
Iām gonna try my best to wiggle my way out of it because I have rent and a full time job and I donāt want to be an almost 21 year old at this summer program LOL
and they havenāt even figured out my residency yet and I canāt come up with 18,000 dollars to pay for a two-credit summer program
I knowwww im so excited. If I canāt appeal the decision with them or figure out financial aid Iāll just finish my two years at UT and apply for grad school here but weāll see what happens
ic
Wish u luck this Friday! CS love
I neeedddd CSSS
Is there a umich groupchat yet
thereās a discord server
if anyone has the invite can you pm it to me
yeah sure
oh yeah please pm me asw
We should make one lowkey
Iād be downnnnn
like on what? instagram?
Instagram is cool if we get enough ppl yeah
Does anyone know if accepting your financial aid offer have any effects on scholarships currently in review like LSA 4 year scholarship?
Like I donāt want them to think that since Iām going here anyways, they donāt have to gimme the money (tell me Iām overthinking this one) š
If I go to wisco business over umich Econ is that a horrible choice
the only bad choice is where you will be unhappy
^
š
umich ross is better but if it umich econ idk
Yeah ik Ross is but I dunno if Iāll get in
But wisco business seems to have better job placement than Michigan Econ
is wisco cheaper?
Yeah it is
Does umich send an admissions packet / email???
I havnt gotten an email to create an account to view like fin aid and stuff
Or apply to honors
Alright
they should tho like no way they dont
Yeah every other school was within a day
yea
they send a letter saying "congrats!"
ross sends a flag though
I have no clue but you could wait on it until 4 year gets back to you
alright thanks. i will give them some time. in the meantime, i shall pay my enrollment deposit
hey how long did it take them to get back to u for the scholarship
i submitted like 3/27 or smth
(btw i havenāt actually committed anywhere yet)
i submitted on the 25th and haven't heard back
i assume after the deadline or around 4/15
š thanks
i submitted early feb
And got back on Ivy Day
Grats on Columbia
you might be waiting awhile tho cuz they took two whole months to get back to me
i think it will take less since they r done with decisions
true
Not to international students
I got in EA and didnāt get anything
the 4 year renewable app?
Aw what the hell is that šš
It looks like itās a conditional attendance program @tranquil imp for lower privileged students. Do you go to a particularly bad HS?
**U-M's Summer Bridge Program, a seven-week residential program for students who show the ability to excel in less-than-ideal conditions, but need a bit of guidance in order to make sure they succeed at the college level.
Each year the program admits about 230 to 250 students who fit that mold, and during the seven weeks students live on campus and take three courses that count toward their graduation requirements. They also get group and one-on-one mentoring so they can adjust to the rigors of university life.**
theyre a gap year student
not entirely sure how they determine this though
bc around
~8 students got into umich from my school
Hmm. I donāt understand how that would make someone needed for that program, if they completed all of HS
I thought it had more to Do with if you went to a bad school like an alternative school
Not if you took a gap year lol
Thatās really weird ngl
low income so
like
pre bad
but like
7 get in w/ out it and 1 gets in with it
and most of us have had the same grades and same classes
Yeah
so its a bit odd
I also go to a low income public school. But I donāt think anyone at my school would receive this. Itās weird how it works
ye weird if u ask me
seems unnecessary especially for a student who has graduated HS and has been working full-time
sounds like they should be able to handle the adjustment just fine
The part that sucks though is you have to pay for it and people who are lower income or in poorer learning environments are the type of people who literally cannot afford to take 2 months off and pay
Iām not international
Exactly. Especially if they graduated from a normal HS. I think there might be some kind of misunderstanding with @tranquil imp from their reading of the application.
Like the school misunderstood their education
Or their academic record
Umich is actually so annoying for releasing Ross decisions like 2 weeks before the deadline
Idk
ye its annoying but its not that bad considering u can still compare it to your other schools
Yeah but now Iām stressing for 2 more weeks
agree
ima commit to umich soon just waiting for financials
and CS advance selection
i got stuff mailed and iām from canada
Yeah if I donāt get into Ross ima prolly major in data science
intl but kinda close so thatās prob why
wym
Same
Apparently they are taught by the same professors
cause if u dont get CS u have something to fall back on in both schools
Yeah college of cse
I literally love every single aspect about UMich except the cost šš
The cost is the one thing holding me back. I really hope I get good financial aid / scholarships or something
Just you have lsa instead of COE career center
How do you get into data science in the coe
LSA vs CoE is not different
Do you need to transfer? Or is it impossible @
other than the other reqs you need
no
for example
in CoE u can choose whatever
lsa needs some humanitieis things
I was admitted to lsa tho
engineering needs physics and chem
if u want Data science you just get the pre reqs for it
and commit
but u gotta be in CoE
yes
ye and CS-LSA is 8 less creds
Which college is the most selective? Ross ?
yes
yep
Thatās actually lit af
personally lsa cs >>.
Did they release acceptance rate info yet for this year
ye CS-LSA is better
I calculated it tho and once ur admitted to Michigan Ross acceptance is like 30-35%
Data science COE sounds cooler tho
its like 25%
wait where did u get that
will prolly try for it
I just calculated it based of accepted numbers
So like 8600 kids apply
21% acceptance rrate
anyone know the stats for CS O_o
its not bad
Nah theyre not out yet
Yeah so like 10% harder ig
this is the first year
ooo ok
But yeah like 8500 kids apply and 800 get accepted
no
But only 20% of those kids get into Michigan
pre sure ross has a lower acceptance rate than that
So really 800/2000 kids
everyone who wants business applies ross... but if you're rejected from ross its impossible to transfer in later on
so the transfer applicants are less competitive
Yeah but Iād rather know now
are you trying to do business
if you dont get ross
I would hate to go to Mich and then get rejected to transfer
and you want to do business
then dont come to michigan'
you cant transfer into ross if you're rejected as a high schooler
ah
But like
that could work tbh
i mena
I mean id get a good mba
you can always apply to CS
umich is good af cs
top5 cs on CSRankings
So I like to code
eh
you have to apply for cs
How hard is it to transfer to CS
unknwon
doesnt matter if its bad for undergrad
Ehhh ik advanced selection
still shows its good
because its the first year for the new systejm
But I donāt think they would say no tbh
its not bad for undergrad by any means
yea this is the first year CS advance selection
Like if I really asked
i just dont think its t5
which is why i dont think itll be too selective this year since theyre trying it out
michigan is prob better though
mich engineering is really good
Itās 1 place better
fair
in general umich is just solid
Yeah ima need to send some emails
shouldnt have any issue getting good jobs and internships outta CS
as long as u are a good student and know ur shit
I just gotta cop a 5 on BC Calc
fs
Cause Calc 2 at Michigan is a FORCE
yea i heard calc 2 at umich is aids as fuckk
Every other school takes a 4
Oh shit no Lin alg?
i wanna say for CoE you need more
Or multi
i dont think so
Data science you need Lin alg
Computer Science Program ā LSA __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Fall 2012 ā Winter 2023 Guide Applies to students who enter the ...
math 115 is calc 1 math 116 is calc 2
math 215 is multivar
Oooo
I lowkey would so major in comp sci
Easier than data science tbh
Cause data science you need hella advanced math and stats
Plus Iām taking a computer architecture class rn
You think comp sci is harder than Econ tho
meh
cant say though im not in college
econ is hard
well
it gets very math heavy
i figure CS is harder
Rather than fucking doing economical math š
by a lil
The funny thing is that Ross is easier than Econ Iāve heard
lmao
idk ive heard mixed opinions
everyone says ross is easy but i havent actually met a ross person
who talks about the classes
Yeah but they canāt be that hard
And at least they are interesting
Some of the Econ courses just seem so boring
one of my parents works with a guy who graduated from ross and he said its pretty tough and very competitive
I guess something with the grading
That actually makes for such a shit environment
like a % of the class willget an A and some Bs and then some lower
Wisco doesnāt do that ik
Thatās actually the dumbest shit ever
or something like that
All BBA core classes grades are to be distributed as: ā¤40% A- or above; ā¤90% B or above; ā„10% B-or below.
In BBA elective classes grades are to be distributed as: ā¤60% A- or above; ā¤90% B or above; ā„10% B- or below.
I thought Michigan was like an 1000/10 school last year and now the more I learn the more Im finding negatives
Thatās not actually that bad tho
Being in the top 40%
90% of kids get above a B
So thatās lowkey grade inflation haha
ye which is why i think its so competitive
cause no one wants to be in that 10%
or even the other 50%
Yeah thatās crazy
yup
altho
be prepared ig if u do go to ross
idk how prevalent it is on campus
but the ross students are kinda like a meme
people consider them stuck up and like douchey so the students are called rossholes
lmfao
Yeah I figured
But like serves em right they fucking got into Ross š
I could not deal with that bullshit tho as an Econ kid
Like I could not be a second class citizen
ye
exactly why i didnt appl econ
ur basically like
Ross's little brother
i def couldnt do that
Yeah exactly
ye
i heard u dont miss much if ur not in ross freshman year anyways
only thing u miss out on is maybe the name for a freshman summer internship
but tbh its quite difficult to get freshman summer internships at big name places just because u have barely even been in school ur only getting gen reqs
ye
thats why im looking to
sounds like a good plan to me
and there is only two essays u just need to have the pre reqs for the transfer
and they dont seem to difficult its just like
1 econ class, calc 1, and a first year writing
ye
CS
rn Iām just waiting to make sure I even get CS
Iāll probably attend either way tho
Iāll only consider UMich if I get CS
fair enough
Iām also in state though so
cheaper tuition close to home etc
Damn
Run data science
I could also go to Purdue honors for finance + business analytics
But I lowkey like Mich and wisco better
ye Iāll prolly run data sci
if I get into Ross I may try to double major CS
If impossible Iāll prolly try Poli sci International studies or smth like that
maybe even Econ if itād look good
Duke UMich
Ye mich is good af esp since itās got solid programs but also a good ass social environment
Usc is 91+k/year
tbh usc looks nice af but Iām too broke to do allat
I donāt want to pay 400k
Got deferred also cs. Not sure if is continued to worth wait or move on.
For usc cs
fair
Just wait till Friday
usc is monumentally overpriced
Only a little left
Duke is fun af lmao
Ye idk how they fair in CS
Sorry whatās on Friday?
theyāve got some prestige though
Itās Duke youāll be chill
Adv sel to CS decisions
Friday is the predicted day for the cs selection
Lol itās not that easy
Same thing w Ross
I donāt think itās necessarily about the staff either
Duke just poached UMich engineeeing dean
I think they just want it to start to gain more prestige
So more professors more classes
prolly one reason yea but
If they make it selective
Itāll gain more prestige
Theyāll prolly end up making a CS school
Yeah they should
and doing a dual degree program between cs and business for Ross
Also the gym being rebuilt for 2 years is a force
Itād probbaly fair really well to be honest
Rn the gym is in a tent
So that pple donāt apple for biology and actually go into CS
š
All I know is club swim practices at a local pool in Ann Arbor now
Which is so dumb
There is like
Haha
Bro
Can I literally get one acceptance where everything works š
Bet
I just got UMich usc and duke
Swear
And not even CS at UMich
U might still get it
I donāt think theyāre gonna be too selective this year with the CS
And told them I have fam in area who are also wolverines
I love wisco Itās just giving up the prestige of Mich is hard
So ima try to see if I love Mich as much
Just because itās new
So high chance of me committing if you give me CS
And decide
Yeah but Iām banking off not getting in
same I need it frfr
My application was good but itās hard
And as a white oos male chances are slim
Cause they boast being super diverse
even if u donāt get in I think umich is a solid pick if u want a fun experience and have ur eyes on another one of their programs
Itās just hard giving up business
When I have everything I want at wisco yk
Like should I go to Michigan just for the prestige?
Fs where u trying to go with business
I mean at wisco their job placement is better than Mich econ it seems
does wisco place IB MBB ?
Like Investment banking club there places super well
Iād say
Yeah
Why take an LSA Econ student if u can take a Ross kid
Exactly
I mean id make a good ass pitch
But my app will just get tossed without the Ross name
If u think wisco would get u the career you want I think itās more worth it than the prestige
but if u get Ross
Go Ross fs
Oh for sure
Iām just trying to make a decision assuming I donāt get into Ross
Cause I donāt wanna get my hopes up yk
Yeah itās just unfortunate you can get into the school and not study what you want
And you canāt really join any business clubs
U could potentially@minor in business at Ross
Yeah but ur competing against kids who are already at Michigan
So everyoneās super smart
Then Iāll just tweak em throughout the year cause Iām not sure how busy Iāll be
Ye
Aye u got Duke tho
plenty of opportunities there
Yeah not sure how good CS is tho like the actual academics and career opportunities
Trying to figure that out
But everything else is great
I assume itās good
although itās probably not amazing for like CS itself
The Duke name will probably carry it enough for jobs and stuff
At least Iād assume
Iām Canadian and got mine like two weeks after
Anyways with this CS advance selection discussion going on, I think DS is closest to CS if you donāt get in
Itās 2 stats courses you need to take and one ML and one database EECS course
compared to CE where you need to take 7 CE classes
They will probably gatekeep these majors too next year bro š¤£
ive gone over it, will only attend for CS
pple say there sa lot of overlap with CS and CE but I'm going to say thats very less true for umich
since they have cs in both lsa and eng
they can have a much more eng CE
lol yeah once people attend for DS instead of CS
im guessing CS was getting too crowded
so they started gatekeeping
now the excess will go into DS
and if that gets too crowded then rip
I'm expecting the acceptance rate to be really high, like 70-80%
Cause if they could do 100% last year it doesn't make a whole lot of sense for the incoming amount of CS majors to be cut in half or anything
It does if they had huge overenrolment
Itās possible they have too many CS majors for many years now
And they want to substantially lower the intake this time
To make up for it
Anyway no point speculating
Just 5 days to wait
scholarship committee is diff from the admissions committee tho
uhh... š
š
i guess there is a lot of students in LSA applying for it
I mean itās a pretty sweet scholarship
facts
yeah i think so
Single-handedly took Mich from being the most expensive acceptance to least expensive, for me at least
i can't get the full amount or else i will be paid to go
but any amount helps a lot
are there variants of how much you can get? I thought if you got it at all OOS you would get 25k and if you got it at all instate youād get 15k
oh
ahaha I guess I really did get lucky or do well⦠cuz I really needed that 25k
wait so mich RD hasnāt come out yet, yes?
it came out
