wlecome back
also if anyone wants the gt'27 discord lmk
😡
threads >>>>>>>
anyone got it?
i didnt lmao - hopefully it'll be fine tho
nono lmao im fine
i spoke to GT ppl
ooh
yess
they said straight Bs are fine np 💀
LOL thsys what i said
idk that doesn't feel right to me ykwim
Me
Are you an intl or domestic @trim sonnet
domestic OOS
Best club
what does foh stand for
fuck outta here
it's ~50k all inclusive
gt is one of the cheapest publics for oos
hence my fav
nah im oos
sauce?
I cant get fin aid and I'm intl, it's just 50k
yea im not like that
Oh tranfer, sorry
i got the transfer thing, so are community colleges considered to be accredited or does it have to be a 4 yr college?
It is
Considered
Tell me if you want the email, i asked the same thing
i literally emailed them like 2 hours ago lmao
i got semifinalist!!
@carmine gale stop looking through my pencil pouch that’s so rude
i hope u get captured by the lizzerland nation
sending my athia army after u
ur just mad u got rejected by lizzerland university
shut up jageor scum
this is why there’s a consequent boundary between u making friends
As I have read, shit
does anyone deferred here write a LOCI
they talk a lot about not needing anything else but havent explicitly said not to send one
on their IG they said you can
anyway
yea i think you should write one
mainly updates to ur ECs/awards + a bit of why us
😭 not looking forward to more writing, i thought the dsf thing was enough
does gtech have loci?
they have a deferred update form
where??
i dont see anything
i fucking deactivated my ig to focus on umich
fuck
@trim sonnet they said deferred students could submit LOCI?
they basically talked about updating them with "leadership and accomplishments"
ie ECs and awards
so basically yea LOCI
i remember that quote
were they referring to the DSF when they said that
idk if you'd email or like do smth through the portal tho sry
ohhh yea
ye
yea
yea
i wrote the dsf so does that mean a loci isnt required
they kinda talk about the same thing, like basically updates and all
GT doesnt even accept LOCI
they only accept the DSF
well thats good then, i really dont know what to write in a loci after ive already submitted a dsf
did u make ur dsf a bullet point list
or a paragraph
paragraph
i mean they dont tell what they expect so go for it
yea true
i think it wont matter that much unless theres actually some significant change in your activities or something and they just wanna compare you to the rd applicants
ive gotten quite a few robotics awards since novemember and some other stuff so who knows
i just wna get in mannnn
yea def talk abt that
i mean this doesn't need to be an essay (i think?)
just list them out while keeping it organized
something is better than nothing, also significant is subjective lol
I've survived one whole week on Subwayss and pizza's during my visit so I'd rate it it a 6/10
subway on campus?
thats lwk fire
Not on campus but like 2 mins from there
oh yea also
And luckily I managed to make that week on just that food lol
wait are you from the bay area?
it is, but its the way i convinced myself not to stress too much about what i write on the dsf 😭
Nah, I went there for isef
i was gonna ask about the general COL and like food compare but nvm if not
ok
sheeessh
isef damn
wait which year?
2022 just this year
The best part was the weather
Lol
ok i was a bit confused at first since you said "there"
and i said "bay area"
and there's no isef here 💀
i think my project wasn't unique enough
like it wasn't like an everyda product
but ppl have done smth similar in science fairs
so thats prob why
i made an engineering thing
that uses CS software
lol
did u do like a legit science project?
Ahh I see
My project was about plants but the research behind it was all CS so it didn't fall in either category and somehow I still managed to survive in plant sciences
LOL
ik someone that did hella good in CSEF
similar thing as you
science + cs but science category
It was a bit novel so yes but convincing plant scientists about something CS is tough 😭
LOL
Oo
wait so is GT ur top choice
or u finna go to like hypsm
isnt isef like 50% acceptance chance or smth for hypsm
idk
Nah nah man I have no chance there
But GT is like top 5
Idts lol. Atleast from what I've seen
Unless you're isef X2 or x3
stfu 🤣
bro did isef and said he has no chance for hypsm
💀
u def have a chance
idk how the rest of ur app is but yea
nah but fr tho
this shi makes such good why major content LMFAO - i mean the CS + science stuff
i exploited tf outta that project
and my other science fair ones
i bet u did smth similar too?
😎
Exactly lol. Anywhere you have to speak about interdisciplinary stuff, just speak about the project and it makes the essay easy
Yep
LMAOO REALLLL
i made a tiktok (just for jokes) about being yield protected everywhere and it semi blew up
💀
lwk wanna see but that'd prob dox u
yeahh
heard it was fucking terrible
this is fine
^^
would it be realistic to like
not buy a dining plan thing
im not super rich or anything lol
but like if atlanta food is not too pricey (obv not fine dining or smth lmao)
and the campus food sucks then
🤔
tbh i dont remember how much food was in atlanta
been a few months since i was there lmao
when i went on my tour the food was amazing. but i’ve heard mixed reviews but ur in literally downtown atl so it’s rlly not even that deep fr
they require first years to have dining plan
my current gt friends say the everyday plan (u only get two choices) is the best one for first years.. they go to the study + cafe mostly
apparently it’s really improved in the last couple of years but it’s by no means incredible
any international whos committed to georgia tech pls contact me
i wish
but GT hasnt committed to me yet
:((
oops sorry lol
forgot we can't post discord links
lotta ppl been DMing me asking to send them the gt'27 server link but a2c doesn't allow it rip
can you dm me?
there's a bunch of other links for specific clubs and classes on one of the channels.
should i thank the admissions office in my DSF or don’t even waste word count on that
i can also send a invite to the gt '27 server to anyone accepted, just shoot me a dm
or just get it from Adi 😂
probably not just focus on any upates you have
probably not because as someone else pointed out first years are required to have a dining plan and it would likely cost more to grab breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day outside
i lowk might just do bullet lists of resume updates and awards
while describing them
idk but that may work
I think that’s good
yep W on confirming w/ admissions office
sounds good
Also
@hidden swift
Check out @gtadmissions
On IG
They have a story thing where u can ask questions
@tidal tangle too ^
I DIDN'T
DID YOU???
STAMPS AND GOLD THING
UR A SEMIFINALIST???
ITS ON UR PORTAL BTW
came out a couple days ago
NO NO THIS IS BUSINESS SCHOOL SPECIFIC
TY TY 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
CONGRATS
TYYY SO EXCITED
just got a"Deferred Supplemental Form Reminder" email from GT, did any of u guys get it too?
No because I already did the dsf
Just do it
It doesn’t take long
true, waiting for results from a piano comp tho
if h haven’t done it
u get it
Hi
Do dean scholarships cover housing/food? I got selected to interview for one but I already have the Zell Miller Scholarship which covers all tuition costs.
I got this too..how many people get it? If you’re in-state you should already have Zell
yes
deans stacks on top of zell/hope
idk how many ppl got it tbh
Oh fuck
@carmine gale reveal
well best of luck sir but $10k/uear to tuiton housing would go fucking insane
yes
@stone cove reveal
im not a rat
yeah ok
no matter what everyoone says
yes but idk how many ppl got semifinalist
prob 200ish

GIRLS OUT THE ROOM GIRLS OUT THE ROOM
chomp chomp chomp
Me
i think they deffered a lot of students this year
This isn’t true, it’s a holistic review
idk if this counts but i applied for cs with a 1450 and tho they didnt accept me, they offered me the transfer pathway into it for next yr
so like
😹 CLOSE ENOUGH
BRUH, I have a 1500 and im instate and they deffered me
Bruh
But to be fair cs is the most competitive to get in
they deferred 21% of EAII applicants
🧢
how do yk this
@hidden swift
i only heard their EA II acceptance rate was 10%
that seems to be the case too
21% isn’t that kinda high
not really
The overall admit rate for Early Action 2, which included both international and out-of-state students, was 10%.
10% wtf
i did not know it was that low
did anyone get the acceptance packet that they said they would send
Not yet
Oh dang. Well I'm glad I at least got deffered
same
this somehow didnt ping me
but only 20% get in after deferral:(
20% is still a good number
being in that 20% is super iffy
Trust the process:))
too much faith in the process rn
yeah I just disabled this
nope
oh damn i didnt know abt this lol
deferral gang strong 💪
yeeee
its better than nothing
truee
20% is better than 10% so fundamentally your chances are better now than when you applied EA2. Moving in the right direction.
lmaoo
honestly yeah true
i didnt think of it like that yet
Sorry for the late message, but I got into Georgia Tech for Physics from Germany
W
Congratulations!
Congrats!
Congrats!!

Wow I’m glad to be in state
glückwunsch!!!
my friend is oos and got accepted cs w a 1390
no but i got this already
it’s not even a packet it’s literally your acceptance letter in this folio + stickers
delete this…it has your GTID
@vague belfry @craggy yoke
Hi
hi
the image^
whaaaaat
they didnt give me one 😦
did anyone else get that?
i was accepted ea1
oh sorry ab the gtid thing
gtid alone doesn’t do much without passwords etc.. no different than your name
your acceptance letter should come soon then
yea...what can one do with just a gtid?
Stay positive!
Yeah. CMU sends a bunch of stuff including a cloth banner, stickers, mug etc. Private v public school. 😉
It used to be your ssn years back I’m pretty sure lmao
oh alright, yea thats changed now
it doesnt matter lmao
u can search up anyone's GTID by their first and last name
idk, people were told not to post their ids here
or sumn like that
probably just to protect personal information like someone's name
ah
you're the person telling people how much tech sucks, right?
😹
how do the people on youtube make it look so fun?
because to be completely honest the average tech student does a better job managing their time than me
I just transferred from uga into here so the transition has been hard
this place isn't that bad in terms of academics
but the transition has been hard in terms of social life, scenery change, finding and trying to maintain a good schedule etc
i also just hate my life because I like being up late night and I have 8 AM's every morning for the first time in college
so it just doesn't work out, Im basically tryna find what works right for me
I don't tend to go out much because social situations are spooky so I can keep to myself and stay productive but the immense workload and difficulty scares me
yeah I feel that. academics are definitely tough
like I'm definitely not an amazing student and by no means a straight A student either
for me it was a like a "wow.." kinda change
it's all g, no one is a straight A student here
Im in state so I've had a few friends from high school go into tech starting freshman year
it's different man, like those straight 4.0 students are the people getting 3.5's - 3.7's now
so a lot of people learn to find peace in not getting A's here
and I'm still trying to learn that as well
that's reassuring
some people just don't find peace, those are the people who no life school and do get 4.0's
i think the hardest part for u is that u transferred in
i have a lot of friends at tech who have been there from the start and they love it so much..
yeah, definitely true
I appreciate that, I think it really comes down to maintaining balance. u don't gotta be a stoner like me or anything but I think what keeps people sane, like the people you see on youtube and everything, is that they care for things outside of school, especially when a lot of them didn't in high school because the majority of tech students were indeed like that in high school
like ultra achieving students who are very sound and uniform in grades, extracurriculars, etc
@compact crater have you found tech insanely difficult
and Im computer science
I’m a business major so should be less difficult but rly nervous I won’t be able to keep up
yeah it's definitely very difficult in STEM but again u get used to it
sameeee
and yeah I mean your business
so you're big chilling
like when I say big chilling you're big chilling these 4 years
like fr?
tbf u definitely made the right decision bc a cs degree from tech has way more weight than one from uga
don't take offense by that lmao
but u will get clowned by tech students for being business haha
MEEE LMFAO
calc 2 is tough ya
I don’t care lmao business majors fucking hire stem majors
I don't think yall have to take anything past calc 1 or 2
yeah eventually you will
you got me when I'm out of Tech, right?
yea but i have friends at tech who failed bc at my school but they said calc is so much easier in college w actual professors
so we’ll see
lmao we're gonna be making a bag over that salary when we come in
I literally just have to get a 4 on the bc exam in may to cut two calc classes out but I don’t know how I’m gonna manage to do it lol
bc then you have to take so high level econ classes that require hard ass math
I took calc ab in high school
REALLLL
my business major friend at tech just got an intern opportunity at google so 😭😭
not to my knowledge
I got a 5 on it, I thought it was pretty easy, I came into UGA with credit but I wanted to take it again cuz I had to take calc 2 at uga for transfer credit into tech and I thought calc 2 was pretty fucking hard
You got the dean semi finalist right? What date did you select
like easily my hardest class at UGA
feb 17
and definitely up to par in difficulty compared to classes here
Me too lol
omg see u then lol??
Yea I guess lmao
not the a2c meetup
💀
congrats that's a W
ty but it’s reallly difficult to get finalist 💔💔
only 10 selected out of who knows how many semis
yeah that doesn't sound fun
but yall made it this far, yall got this
what if both yall end up as 2 out of the 10 w it 😹
🤭🤭🤭 it’s possible
that does remind me of one of the things I loveeee about this mfin school: the possibilities
like when I say the sky is the limit, I definitely think it is, at least for career placement
the opportunities u will get here to get internships, co-ops, and/or entry level positions is just insane
partly because of the location right in a mfin tech hub and also cuz of how goated the school is
I was at uga and I was getting nothing, the second I transferred here I interviewed w cox automotive and PNC for internships, got offers for both
and I accepted PNC and I'm moving out to pittsburgh this summer to get the bag
Yea but UGA downtown is so fun lol
INSANITY. you’re making me SO EXCITED
real but ur literally in atlanta
The Atlanta bars suck
yeah I can't lie
Athens downtown >>>>>
so much fun
but ATL downtown is fun in a different way imo
ATL bars* like midtown
which bars do Georgia tech kids go to
athens is only an hr away tho like thats always a place to go
Veranda
VERANDA.
veranda got busted
lost dogs doesn’t car tho?
yea they do
real
don't waste time trying to bank on other people's fakes all the time if u plan on going out a lot
I have my own
idk if it’s any good though I’ve only used it in athens and they don’t stop anyone
athens bouncers r just happy to be there fr
Are veranda and lost dog the main GT bars
literally my sister 😭😭
there’s one more i forgot the name
Those are just filled with high school kids lol
yes.
like the one directly next to Veranda
do y’all go down to state at all for parties
or how r the parties at tech
is frat row dead 💔
I haven't gone to state for parties but btw the state area is low key ass
I wouldn't go down there especially at night unless you wanna get shot
parties at tech are soooo weird lmao
see but i’ve heard the opposite
those are, imo, obviously worse than UGA's
i heard there’s a massive coke prob
people be trippin fr
at tech?
what are frat parties like
I mean at tech
got too busy
UGA ones are fun
but at tech aren’t half the frats just dead lol
breh what
yeah all my roommates have done it multiple times, just one of them who's addicted
Im off campus
i’m seriously considering off campus
off campus is nice but on campus is also goated imo
but part of me wants the dorm experience just once
cuz u get to learn the campus really easily
yeah
I think the one dorm expereince is nice
experience*
glenn/towers 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
yeah
nah I mean they're lit still
they're the only lit people on campus
i’m instate so i can hopefully get them but idk bc i paid my deposit kinda later than everyone else
but yeah I mean I can't lie
compared to uga
frats here are dead
pledgeship is a joke
rushing is way more informal imo
like I rushed on a whim, came in w 1 hour left on the last day and I got a bid
Lol I submitted housing two weeks late cuz I waiting on Michigan
I’m gonna get stuck w a shitty form
yeah but am i here to have fun or here to make bank
Bruh what
wym
like how late
i submitted the day before ea2 came out
Oh yea I didn’t realize my roommate might get a better option then me
did you apply ea and get deferred or rd?
@compact crater what’s the frat that gets the most fucked
yeah i got deferred ea1
idk tho they accepted 2500ish and glenn/towers is only 500ish beds
so idk what the yield rate is but 💔💔💔💔
yea plus EA2 got in before I submitted housing
So I’m def fucked unless I want in-state roommate
yeah ive heard towers is kinda overrated anyway
bruh, those are the two I was banking on so I'm not miserable
towers is the dream i want to back onto the 85
towers looks more roomy that glenn tbh
okay no
their dorms are shit but the campus eats
do EAII people get housing options yet?
campus itself is kinda mid
huh
i disagree
but also lots of streets going straight through campus which i dont like
tech was the best campus i toured
I haven't accepted the offer yet so idk but do you get to choose housing right after you accept
the tour shows you like a tiny part of campus
oh no you pay the deposit and then you choose housing in like april or may i think
yea but paying depo puts u in line
bc they have to give you time to choose a roommate etc
ah, so even if I accept now, I won't get a good shot at glenn/towers
likely no but you can always get an instate roommate who has a better spot in line
oh, that makes sense
any instate tryna room?
i mean i don’t have a roomie yet but i’m also not 100% committed
i have a few friends who got in that i could hook you up with
dont think theyve committed yet though
instates are so lucky bc we have zell (free tuition 🤭🤭)
yeah zell goes hard
the one thing the state of ga does right
I need to find an in-state roommate
That submitted housing before me
Cause I had to wait to get deferred from Michigan lmao
you know theres a bill to get rid of zell and make it so hope is full tuition
putting "instate" on my roommate preference form
as long as i don’t pay tuition idrc 🤍
i havent checked my hope gpa in a while i hope i still qualify
maybe if there’s a hilel near Glenn/towers I can ask the rabbi to tell tech staff I need to be close for religious purposes

probably do but i got a bunch of bs last semester
but they were in like gtcalc and post-ap research so idk if they count
and ap gov
hmm
idk i’m not sure what the requirements even are anymore
it’s like 3.5 for hope or no?
yea something like that
ap gov probably does
And it’s 3.7 for zell
yeah but thats a lot of work
if its 3.7 i probably have it
most of my bs are in ap level classes so that would be a 4 anyway
Damn now I’m upset I submitted housing two weeks late
fucked up my chances of getting a nice dorm
think only non-ap b i got is honors spanish which isnt a core class i dont think
me as well
wonder if i can room with one of my friends whos a current freshman
i have to be like spot 300 in line to even have a chance and that’s just so unlikely
you can’t
you have to stay in a dorm that’s apart of the first year experience and only freshman can stay in them
u got this
There’s like 500 spots no?
for Glenn and towers
oh yaa and I guess most ppl in Line wont dorm with others high in line
just need to find a committed roommate I guess who signed up awhike ago
i wonder if i can email housing and find out my spot number
Do it
I wonder if summer kids get priority though 👀👀👀👀👀👀
I’m summer
I know we have different housing for summer but maybe they let us choose spots for regular first
i’ll report back 🧘
jan 25
i thought all aps were hope/zell rigor classes
are they
@compact crater hii! i saw u transferred in for CS, and i wanted to ask ur experience w/ it? like hahaha i got the transfer pathway for next yr when i applied for cs so i could likely transfer into cs in 2024, but do u think its worth it?
wsg my g, yeah so I just transferred in this semester from UGA, I spent 3 semesters at UGA already. I like georgia tech, it's a different vibe than UGA for sure but I feel like the transfer transition is definitely harder than high school transition, partly because 1. your high school academics are probably on par in difficulty with tech's difficulty in classes so you won't have as hard of a time vs transferring in from a college where the difficulty and workload change is significant, and 2. you're gonna be established at your college after your first semester most likely and you might have a feeling of not wanting to transfer because of the fact that you feel established, have a social circle, etc
I wanted to go to GT for comp sci since like 6th grade so when I got rejected after freshman year applications, I was still fixated on transferring to tech when I came to UGA, but being at UGA after my first semester really made me rethink applying to transfer
so with all of that said, I think it's worth it in the long run. I've already told some folks here in this thread already but like despite how hard it is academically, and even socially, the job opportunities will make you cream yourself
like the reality of it started hitting me when I was getting jack shit in terms of interviews and and offers at UGA, and since I've been at tech I've done a lot of interviews and have gotten a couple offers already
the most reassuring thing is almost everyone gets used to the academics and time management, because just about everyone here is very smart so it comes down to how much time and effort you're gonna put in
you'll be able to bull shit your way through college at a shit ton of colleges, but not at tech
not if ur a stem major who starts ur own business 👀
tech entrepreneurs💪
i need someone to shove me in a locker in 1 years time and tell me to apply for transfer because☠️☠️
i might fold
thats the thing tho, its ok if u dont want to lol
tech doesn't make u successful, you do. im not saying that ur gonna get more and better job opportunities in other colleges compared to tech but like 99% of corporate mfers didnt go to georgia tech
yeah APs are all hope rigor
ig some DE arent
i think its +0.5 for aps/de if you get a F-B grade for hope gpa
The more I find out about people who got accepted/deferred the more mad I get about this
Some girl in one of my classes got deferred with a 1200 and 3.5 GPA, being an African American female definitely improved her odds
Course rigor wasn’t great either, 3 total APs
why are you mad
Maybe she j had a really good essay
🤷
stay madd
lmfao what the fuck
bro is just racist
just because ur stats are high doesn't mean ur autoadmit
most of y'all can't write essays for shit bruh
You guys fucking lack critical thinking
“if I was blind deaf and had a broken spine I would’ve gotten in” no fucking shit
systemic racism doesn’t mean that they’re called slurs it means that it’s harder for others to get the same advantages
lots of ppl get internships and tutors and research through connections
so “if you were black” you wouldn’t have the exact same app strength even if you put in the same effort
And if you dont believe that then that’s your problem
You act like just changing race only affects the color of your skin, no it affects so much more
I’ll probably be muted/banned for this but I can’t even rationalize with a2c salty racists
Literally just cope
is that a racial diff or socioeconomic diff?
I would say both
Not purely one or the other
but to say race doesn’t matter is purely ignorant
agreed
that's why colleges also prob look into the opportunities you have tho
whatever your race if your poor and living in some trailer but they see you go the extra mile at school then even if your the race of the majority population you would have an equal or higher chance?
Colleges also take into account financial situations
And income
It’s not like they don’t consider poor not-poc
They have an entire additional info section for you to explain ur shit
yea true
so race prob does matter but not as much as people think
its just one cog in the machine
Anywyas my raging liberal rant is over if anyone tries to argue against me or respond ima just ignore
this needs to be understood by so many A2C members it’s unreal
ECs don’t always carry
I agree but also respectfully disagree
Essays incorporate what you’ve done in your ecs with who you are, your character, your personality, your passions and more
That’s why they’re very important
Especially for very competitive schools where high stats just becomes a checkbox
chill cuz 😹
finna get cancelled
not by me tho
very true. essays matter a shit ton, I stg I didn't realize this until I transferred in but it's easily one of the biggest factors in considering ur decision
Looking at the bloodshed of Purdue EA, people with incredible stats and ECs got deferred or even flat out rejected even though they considered Purdue as a “safety school”
reading a few essays, I realized just how wack some essays were
it was clear who spend a week or two and who spend an hour or two
ohhh fr?
yeah
I mean it's definitely a lil different for transfer cuz admissions weighs your qualification on just a few standards: your gpa, your essays, and your extracurriculars (on campus in terms of clubs or research, off campus perhaps in terms of internships / coops)
of which all of them matter but students don't necessarily participate in extracurriculars in college
not nearly as much as HS on average fs
Tbh what I find is that ppl lacking in stats and extras tend to work harder on their essays to make up for said lack
And that tends to show the colleges that you actually care about getting accepted there in particular, not any random prestigious college
And so they’re more likely to accept you
but yeah I mean regardless essays play a huge part, admissions isn't non-uniform when it comes to admitting freshman vs transfers
Fax
yeah I think that's true
I feel like when you have really strong extras and stats, you might not (or you might, it honestly just depends on the person) write lackluster, shallow essays
It honestly just depends on the person tho
imo if they see that you "fit" and they probably tell this through essays then you can get in no matter how "low" other people think your stats are
but stats themselves tells an ao that you are worth reading
idk
yeah it does. in retrospect I feel like college admissions was like a corporate job interview. your employer will already know your skills and qualifications by the time you interview because of your resume, just like college admissions officers will know how goated u are in terms of stats and extracurriculars when they read ur transcript and then go on to ur essays. the interview comes down to not necessarily expressing how goated u are, but a means of getting to know your interviewer and expressing why your good fit for the company, just like you gotta explain who you really are in your essays and explain why you fit in that college and not just any other one.
mb didnt mean to write an essay
yeah I feel thats a good analogy
is it better to submit loci now or wait
That acceptance packet was weak but at least we got stickers
when did you get it?
and what state r u in?
Today. In WI. It was just the letter and a sheet of stickers
i want GT stickers so bad 🤤
bruh the only stickers i got from colleges are from ASU wtf 😭
GA tech sent a cute buzz sticker and some other ones
Minnesota had goldy and other UMN stickers
IU just sent one single sticker of the IU logo
what about UW Madison
well thats where they went wrong, purdue was never safety to begin with
the engineering acceptance rate is low af
setting false expectations leads you to ultimately rage and say "yield protect"
what would you approximate purdue's acceptance rate for eng
and also for ga tech what do you think it is
i dont know but its def <20
just assume big tech unis to have below 10 or 20%
at the end of the day, acceptance rate isnt a good metric either
its literally a percentage
yeah im really just debating ga tech vs umich
wdym
and the opportunities
im touring both so we will see within the next month
what major are u going for
either ee or cs
how hard is it to switch to cs @ ga tech
and opportunities for placements is almost equal
yeah thats what i think so too
i think you get a no questions asked major switch before beginning first year
but many ppl regret and drop CS, if u really think you have it in you, then only go for it
otherwise i'd advise against it
really? is it that though
i would like to think of myself as someone whos got the ability to stick it through but im not sure
im not trying to discourage or scare you but i think u can understand what would happen if an anthropology major switched to CS
in your case, that shouldnt be an issue
im touring tech on the 17th so i think ill have a good idea of if i can see myself
not if u switch later
ah right
its one of those schools where national ranking doesnt apply as muhc
its a great eng school
do you attend?
oh no
ah just a very knowledgeable person
yeah exactly
i've been deferred
i may post on reddit to see if someone will give me a tour
go for it, i hink you'll love the campus
it has both city and calm life
subway on campus
im signed up for the official but im hoping a student would be able to show me the engineering specific things
and give me the inside scoop
check out the GT discord server
and talk to current seniors there
they could maybe arrange something for you
yep
thanks
if u would like I can see if I can on the 17th
I’m also in ECE and have a CS thread so if u have any questions regarding the ECE program lmk
yes that would be very appreciated. can i pm you?
sure
like ~10-15% for OOS
GaTech doesn't admit by major but EA 2 acc rate was around 9%
gtech or uiuc which one in your opinions in better for cs
uiuc imo
why does this matter
low acceptance rate does not mean better. and in general uiuc has better programs.
for example, harvard cs is probably harder to get into uiuc cs but its cs program is no where near uiuc's progam. but with that said, since harvard is prestigious af, harvard would be better since it would open more doors. but education wise uiuc is better.
Gtech and uiuc have comparable prestige imo
i think gtech prestige > uiuc prestige. but cs prestige is reversed
Also you have to live wherever the college is so that's way more important than prestige
what?
Like climate, location etc
is atlanta cold
No it has a great climate
Even better lol
I'm not sure
It's near Michigan so there's a bunch of snow
The great lakes do a lot
spring should be nice
fall is nice
just winter
so two good seasons and one bad one
Yeah
and cold > hot cuz u can always wear more
I would agree but my body is suited for a hot climate
Or a humid one
I need moisture
i mean uiuc is better ranked overall so i would argue it has better prestige
although im not someone who likes rankings
NOOO HUMID CLIMATES MAKE IT SEEM 10X HOTTER THAN IT IS
i imagine florida in the summer is a nightmare
Probably is but a lot of people like it
no.
hot >>>>
today was so chilly
😢
ily too. take my heart.
yess
warm is nice tho
wait what
im choosing GT CS over UIUC CS
💀
idk it seems like a better fit for me
location, STEM school, nerds, research, etc
same thing applies to awards
No
They are both relatively the same
Tech is more prestigious tho if u rlly think about it
ohhhh they look for coops and clubs when applyimg for transfer?
idk much abt the transfer process
yeah, clubs are good to have fs
cuz it shows that you're motivated to do something on campus
but what's even better is research / internships / co-ops
that's how u really show your dedication to your major
he has transfer pathway so if you meet the requirements (very basic like 3.3+ gpa, other stuff) you’re good
fr?🥹 like idk im worried like what if they dont let my ass in IF i decide to apply
They did a q&a on their Instagram where an AO confirmed it’s guaranteed
😲 ohhh fr? do u know if its saved somewhere i could read it?
nah unfortunately I didn't have a pathway. I applied through regular transfer.
if yall got rejected but got a pathway, dw yall are big chilling
if you're applying to transfer without a pathway and you're CS like 90% of the applicants in every transfer pool, it's still pretty darn competitive
you're gonna be needing a solid 3.8 minimum in college if ur transferring as CS
everything else is a bit easier, not easy still tho. like for other majors, try to be like 3.6 - 3.7+ for sure if u want a solid shot
but yeah majestic is right about the pathways, you're guaranteed to get in lol
though, ik people who transferred into tech but said "fuck my major, im changing it when I apply to transfer, c'est la vie". they had transfer pathways like conditional or first generation, but those pathways are given after u get rejected freshman year for the major you applied to
and then those people didnt fw their majors in their first college so they applied regular transfer so that they could change their major
it's a sacrifice and a risk
hmu i have lots of rizz (joke)
I had a boy at UGA who's a data science major, he applied freshman year into tech for IE and got rejected, got conditional for IE, but he wanted to change it to data science. he was feeling good about it cuz he had a 4.0 at UGA before he applied
and he got rejected
thats how ik gpa isn't the sole factor in transfer, even though there are few factors to weigh transfer admission
and even just in general for tech admissions
i applied for cs and they gave me pathways, so would i be alright if i applied cs again hahaha
I meant silkberries
Wait GT doesn’t have a Bachelor’s in Data Science
I’m a DS major but had to choose something else
It was on their story which is archived after 24 hours. But she explained it by talking, not by typing so I wouldn’t be able to SS it anyways
Mb I think it was comp media or something similar to cs / data science
just curious, but the logic was good until this. how does race automatically decrease the "strength" of an application? is this by systemic racism or what specifically is holding a black student back compared to a white, Asian, or Hispanic student?
its cause of whats holding black students back compared to other races mainly
a lot of black people don't have the same opportunities cause they live in poorer areas and shit
what is holding them back
dawg, forgive my stupidity, but wdym by systemic racism
oh damn
a lot of schools which are majority black or hispanic are usually failing and shit
because the neighborhoods are poorer and less developed because of segregation
and because of segregation and racism black people and other minorities are less likely to get accepted for good jobs
i mean there a lot of other factors that cause this
ya but im talking about the racism factor rn
because minorities don't get good jobs due to bias they don't make a lot of money
and schools are funded through property taxes
so living in poorer homes = worse school
and worse school = worse education = less likely to go to college
and it just goes down from there
@compact crater do you recommend SAE if I’m looking to rush, have some friends in it who like it
I understand the schooling issue, but I think there are many other factors that contribute to schools with large black/hispanic populations that have lot of students failing. one big factor would probably be imo is the very high rate of a lack of a father in the household. single parent household rate is very high in the inner cities
the reason for a lack of a father is because minorities are overpoliced
idk cuz I didnt rush SAE, I only rushed theta chi
and a lot of people are put in jail for a very long time over very minor crimes
but rush it and see if u fw it
