the email he received from a uchicago AO on 30th april said "we're making a recommendation to the dean of admissions for a select group of applicants to be admitted, would you still be interested?"
and he replied yes and received the acceptance the next day

honestly speaking i feel like that was a wave of acceptances they must've sent

Given how high Chicago’s yield is + how many they admitted before May 1st, I don’t think there will be anything significant in terms of future waitlist movement.

Not at all, I’ve heard of people getting off of Uchicago waitlist during the summer

But remember, the longer it is, the less likely you’ll get off lol

That's a bit odd, make sure you sent it to the right address, the right AO, and if you did and it's been over a week then maybe forward it to the general admissions email

Darn, I probably should have checked no then. I was fine taking another year if it meant UChicago could be my safety and I could apply to my top choice school(s) again, but otherwise, it’s definitely not worth it for me. Would checking yes decrease my likelihood of getting in for ‘27?

I don’t think it’s considered a gap year anymore if you enroll elsewhere. It would be called something like transfer pathway if it allowed that is my guess.

id assume there would be an admissions officer in chicago that is assigned to your country/local internationals

From what I know, AOs will be basing it based off where you're completing high school in, so if you're living abroad in Thailand, the likely AO you would contact is Domenic Lamberti (They cover Central & Southeast Asia) The AO for Taiwan is Michelle Trimpe.
I think if you shoot an email to either one of them, I'd guess that they can help you out with any questions you may have.
