A good "Why X?" essay is the kind of essay that if you removed all identifying information (name, city, mascots, etc) from the essay, you would still be able to tell what school it is. It is the kind of essay that deals with a schools on such an intimate and personal level that the AOs are done reading it and think to themselves "This person knows what they're talking about." Copying and pasting "Why X?" essays is basically the same as shooting your in foot. Schools know that it isn't personal. They know it isn't written with a deep knowledge of their school and what makes them unique.

Each school looks for different qualities in their students, so using your essays to show those unique qualities is what your goal should be with each essay.

For less selective universities, this is less important, but esp. for T20s I'd advise doing something like specifically figuring out what their ideology is towards college and working around that for the application
