I believe you will be compared to all of the ED people. I don't think gap year affects who they compare you to because ideally every application is reviewed on the basis of it's merits, not necessarily how it compares to other people, but because they must view all applicants within the context of the greater applicant pool as a whole, they probably are "comparing" (more like deriving a benchmark from the average applicant) to the rest of the ED pool.

Need blind, yes. But, that doesn't mean that AOs are looking for signs of wealth (or lack thereof) when looking at your application. I know it is somewhat common for college AOs to look at activities, school profile, teacher letters and such to gain an idea of how wealthy you are
