#Computer Science schools Pref (SF or Pheonix)

Hey @hardy dock so let’s unpack this bit by bit.
Location: For your major, I’d look beyond these two cities.
GPA/Tests: You have a fantastic GPA, combined with a good test this could get you admits to high tier schools if you have good ECs.
I’d recommend testing but it might be too late for this cycle.
Curriculum: do you want it to be rigorous or more laid back? Are you looking for more research heavy programs or traditional class work?
Size: ASU is massive (student body).
I am sort of tied to these two cities for a lot of personal reasons so if it is at all possible it's extremely preferred. Or an online school so I can stay in either of those cities
Not entirely sure if my GPA will hold that strong for my Associates, I'm only in year 1
Oh, I totally didn't realize you were a transfer! I wouldn't worry about those tests.
Hmmm. I'm not entirely sure. I want whatever is most applicable to the job I will be doing after I graduate. So whatever gets me the most actual job experience
Oh apologies, I don't think I mentioned it anywhere that I am a transfer
Are you by chance going to a CC in California?
Ah, okay. CCs in California usually have an auto admit program for the UC and CSUs.
If you're committed to those cities, I'd look at:
UC Berk
CSU Sonoma
CSU San Francisco
U of SF
San Jose State University
Stanford
ASU
GCU (not sure about how strong this is in CS)
Online:
UMD GC
ASU (although you'd probably just go in person)
Thank you so much! This is extremely helpful. I'll look into these schools
@raven valley Should I use the common app to apply? Do I need to test at all?
I'm not sure if any of them require test scores, but as a transfer I wouldn't think it's 100% necessary? I transferred from a CC to ASU for my undergrad and submitted no test scores.
I'd look at their websites for transfer information. Most of these are on the UC or CSU portal, ASU/GCU are not.
Thanks, how about the common app?
Like, if I don't use the common app what is the format or template I should use? I'm struggling to figure out a good template
@raven valley Also, is there a smart affordable way if I get accepted to one of these schools to relocate there? (Reason why Phoenix is an option is because I have housing lined up) not in SF though
Most have a portal that has an application on it.
I wouldn’t bring anything when moving, the smart thing to do would be to leave most of your stuff behind if possible.
When I did an AZ to DC move I drove with only what could fit in my Jeep- only cost me gas.
Oh I meant just living costs
I'm fine with not taking much stuff
In SF that's near impossible, group house is what I'd look into.
Dorms via the schools are an option as well.
Do schools or financial aid or someone help with dorm payment?
Sorry for dumb questions
What do people normally do if they're on their own and have to move to their school?
Take large loans out ^
