#International student applying w financial aid's uni list!
188 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
but i'm pretty sure it'll end up being A^(star) A^(star) AA
nope
talked to my school about it
they said they'd mention that i was sick and that i'm giving the exam all together in may/june
so hopefully it serves as something to the unis
but from what i've heard
i mean it's not lying lol
i'm giving CS in may/june accelerated
i.e giving all 4 papers together
^ but they're still gonna send the C on my transcript
like that won't change
they'll j say that i'm giving it again
as well
yep
yeps
they look at best 3 out of 4
ABB
which isn't bad imo
thing is
i wanna
retire my parents as quick as i can
cause stuffs tight
so i don't want to spend a year waiting for nothing and j doing internships
like i wanna get my undergrad degree and start working
there's only 5 which are need blind in the world lol
yeah
which is where i'm applying
yep
been issued a statement from my counsellor which certifies the common app waiver
most of em don't have supplements
only the top ones do
also if you have any suggestions
on like where i can apply for aid
and stuff
go ahead like
i'm very open to the list rn
also like i get that i look like an idiot for applying to stanford etc with a 1400
but honestly most of these are hail maries
cmuq?
they're p generous w fin aid
at least the qatar campus is
if i get a 1500 i'll send the score
i think it was j test anxiety cause i'd been getting 1540s on all my practice tests
giving it again in like 6 days
what's a low COA
be honest
do you think i got a chance in somewhere like NYU
that's the dream
i mean like i value an outside perspective on my profile
I don't think CMU in Qatar have an Electrical E. major!
they have comp sci
was gonna apply into that
for cmuq
and then try and transfer into cmu
in the us
but you said you need aid
the issue is j to get into cmu
then after that transferring from a campus toa nother isn't an issue
and transferring students can't get aid
Ahh, yeah got it!
make sense now
if you need aid I wouldn't apply there
I'm pretty sure they are one of those that give no aid at all
I think it would be best to get that up if you apply for engineering at cmu/stanford
yeps
giving sat again in october
which college you in rn
if you don't mind me asking
I am transfer
my stats were not good enough as freshman to get into ucla/berkeley unfortunately
dang
the highest I got into was ucsd (alt major), usc (too expensive)
what were your stats for usc
i'm early-ing usc
so i can be considered for their scholarships
3.8UW and 780M/760EBRW highest take
but I applied for cs so the competition is more
right right
usc isn't too hard to get into, a lot of dumb people have gotten in that I know of
like 1400 SAT ish?
i'm hoping my SAT goes to a 1500 in october
that I'm not sure
I don't know their particular stats
but my guess is you can have lower stats except for engineering
for engineering it matters because if you don't master the subjects then you would have trouble later on
but isnt it that
you don't declare a major
until your second year
so you don't apply to individual majors you apply to the school as a whole
No, maybe that is for like Harvard or something
if you look at the common app for many places you will declare immediately
this is how it works at some
is this the newest one
2021-2022
you are, but you have to remember not everyone is applying to engineering
latest one they posted
eng skews higher
is there a way i can like get individual major stats
yeah i am
you probably will get a higher score next time
hopefully man
but maybe usc doesn't even care much about the tests
some say "considered" not "important"
"very important"
yep
so I guess they care a lot
here's harvard's cds
they are extremely holistic
it seems
I think they are lying though
have to be lol
they just value everything equally
Alum legacy have a 33%+ chance at getting in. Plus there is the Z list
almost all privates except some of the STEM ones do
but legacy at usc too
can you guys recommend me unis which i could get into
w my sats
stats
bit risky if u really need aid, tho ig u can always back out of an ED for aid reasons
heard john hopkins ee dept isn't great
ed is binding
that's why i'm EAing
it has the easiest ED:prestige ration though
it's only binding if you accept the offer after being admitted
U have to accept the offer
i thought if they admit you it's binding
NYTimes did an article on the common misconception
I thought that too until I read that article
yea if u dont accept it within 72 hours or something then you forfeit the agreement but that looks bad to colleges
you get to see your aid though
if it looks bad just toss the offer
You technically and legally can do that
right
But if you do no other college will respect you
I don't think they can see nor enforce that though
you don't actually agree till you deposit
Colleges can communicate with each other
You and your counselor sign before submitting the application
yes but you didn't do anything wrong, even morally
The post said that if you break an early decision agreement, you can’t apply to a different school.
This could not be more wrong.
You can apply anywhere you want once you break an early decision agreement. You’re supposed to withdraw applications elsewhere and not send out others only if you accept an early decision offer.

I didnt say it prevents you from applying if you choose to reject the ED offer
i'll talk to my guidance counsellor about this
Theres just a high chance that it'll look bad to that college and other colleges
Maybe not random safeties and such but colleges like them
What id do if you wanna ED, see the finaid and if its bad then call the college asap and try to discuss that and see if they can help
If not, back out and say its too expensive
and run the fin aid calculator
i'm int so i can't
Before even that though, call them and ask how to estimate your aid because you're int
yeah
Just call a couple colleges and see how they do finaid with internationals
this was columbia'
