techs are one thing, but bethesda's employees - here, on this discord - are failing to communicate. some of us spent a bunch of money in order to play the game, and it's not easy to contact a retailer for a refund in my country. this is genuinely about consumer rights and corporate communication.

for those of us who live outside the US, it's a continuation of a much larger problem. i can't even load the game, nor can i get a refund as someone in the US could. that's not how it works here. additionally, internet access is both metered and dated where i live. i had to buy internet access to download the game, and to download mods. that's money i'm not going to see again. and it's not acceptable.

for some reason, i can't. my assumption is that my console started auto-downloading the creation club content just as servers went down, and i have a corrupted download - but i can't even check that. microsoft support just attributes it to bethesda's maintenance, and suggests i come here to ask for feedback. if you look on twitter, every one of their messages redirects people here - to the discord - for updates. and there haven't been updates, at all.

It depends on the architecture of the distribution system. Skyrim mods are large and won't fit on a single host, and serving those mods will require several machines. It's unlikely this was a one machine upgrade.

This maintenance could, for example, have been an upgrade in the file format used to store mods on their backend. A bug here can be extremely difficult to recover from unless they already had backups in place.

My criticism is around the apparent failure to staff an oncall rotation for this service we were forced to pay for.

I don't think the mods here know much either, but the mods are the ones who are giving us updates, so there is communication happening between the devs and at least some of the mods. They're our best chance at getting any sort of information on what's happening. If it's just a one way communication, tell us that. If they can ask the devs on our behalf, please do and let us know that they're at least trying to do more than just waiting for updates.

I highly recommend the GOG version of Skyrim Anniversary Edition. You can download an offline installer separate from GOG's Galaxy client which stops unwanted updates from ruining your mods. No DRM either.

It’s definitely a challenge. But I don’t care how large the company is or if they check those little boxes on compliance audits saying “Yep! We got those backups ready to go.” Seen that play out multiple times where they realize “Uh oh… turns out our backups weren’t valid and we just assumed so…” Doing maintenance in a live environment is no joke but I don’t think I’ve seen the lack of communication in a situation like this ever be for a positive reason. It’s usually stall until they can form some plan for damage control.

At least the latest update gave us an idea of what is going on. They are not running just software update, but hardware as well. Bethesda's servers have been somewhat unpredictable, so there could be two options.

1. They were smart and started building the whole thing from scratch. Things just haven't gone as smoothly they expected with setup. That would be completely understandable. Even experienced team can encounter surprises.

2. Someone decided to run the old software to new hardware. Universe is resisting and pixies are now running rampage around their servers. In the end, small and horrible Diabolihuahua rises from the frozen lake and we all end up as infernal lapdogs. Humanity is doomed. Age of small dogs has begun.

Let's hope they chose wisely.

Well most of us are just worried about whats gonna change when it comes to Skyrim Console Special edition and thr creation club content... and if whatever they have planned will mess with Mods in general

I definitely wouldn’t complain if they said exactly what they’re fixing. They’ve said it’s maintenance on the Bethesda.net site, but last I knew it was a bit janky but worked. I just wanna know what needs fixing. But it’s not that important to me
