Fallout 4 Steam launch on my new Win11 PC causes mouse to be stuck in small box in center of screen, forcing hard reboot. Have 5,800+ hours on FO4 on Win10 & Win7 rigs, so am assuming this failure-to-properly-launch bug is either a Win11 or RTX4070ti issue. Just got Skrim AE up and running just fine with a Wabbajack modlist--but can't even properly launch FO4. Verified files and tried running in windowed/borderless, low geaphics setting--get same result. Any help or advice most appreciated.

OK, found solution. Waited until 'press any key to continue' prompt. Pressed a key, waited until game fully loaded (creating .ini, etc.). Now fresh game starts go right to main menu. So far so good with Win11....

The problem might pop up again when Steam updates. There is another one that also shows up regularly is when you go to launch the game the Steam client sticks itself in front of the loading screen, when that happens just wait until the Main Menu loads up before trying to make the client overlay go away otherwise it'll black screen.

Copy the saves folder within to desktop (or somewhere else you can find it) then delete the entire fallout 4 folder. Uninstall the game completely. Reinstall the game. That should fix it.

Just done testing again weapons fully upgraded pipe rifle on auto is like 3x more powerfull than minigun fully upgraded

minigun is horrendously weak

The benefits to the Mingun are fire rate (Base of 272 not upgraded vs the 150 at max upgrades for Pipe Rifle) and ammo capacity (Base of 500 vs the max of 48 at max upgrades for Pipe Rifle.) So sure, base damage to an enemy is 8 per hit with the Minigun, but you're throwing more lead downrange and faster, thus you have more of a chance of crippling limbs and staggering.

There's generally different use cases. Minigun is useful for large amounts of weak enemies or hitting strong enemies rapidly to kill or weaken them.\

You'll spend more time even with the quicker reload animations for the pipe rifle reloading than you would for each cycle with the minigun

Cause anyone having more than 20 armor and minigun deals 2 damage per shot

so real DPS is far less than shown

Ammo is more rare and its same price so you spend more ammo on heavier weapon which needs to warm up before shooting dealing less damage nice horrible balance by Bugthesda

Even worse fully upped very first 10mm handgun can easilly kill anything compared to minigun which deals 11 per bullet which by the level 37 is literally again 2 damage per shot whoever balanced this from Bethesda team should be fired

And on top that weapon doesnt need to warmup before shooting it can kill even most badass enemies on map

All in all heavy weapons are big crap you can pass the game evne permadeath it but it will be a chore thanks to whoever balanced whole heavy weapon tree had as much knowledge as Homer Simpson about nuclear plant

Heavy weapons were never--in any fallout game--really meant as an early or even fully-game option. Their weight alone makes that counter intuitive. They were meant as heavy-hit (or fast-hitting) stagger-inducing powerhouses for the few battles in which you need them. Hence why things like the Fat Man and Missile Launcher are considered Heavy weapons. FO4 just decided to give you the most underpowered of all of them early on

when i buy enough ap ammo i go straight for the unique one

adding drugs on top of all and AP or self crafted ammo you can get to 1000 dps

ammo is so light

m8 l start another permadeath for FNV and i use light armor build since light touch gives flat 5% crit chance

1000 bullets is round like 2 lbs plus you have perk which cuts all ammo weight in half

In Fo4 minigun is impractical since Homer simpson balanced it in FNV its very practical

Avenger weights 18 lbs and lets say you carry 4000 ammo thats like more 60 lbs without perk

its quite easy to have it all and if ammo is AP ammo it ignores 25 DT and normal ammo ignores i think 10 or 15 DT

so its armor piercing from the get go

ammo boxes are easy since you can get like 40k caps gambling and you will never ever spend it

So its hardcore viable you just need to start like 7 strength

concetrated fire will make minigun more precise without affecting its fire rate and light touch will give you 5% crit chance

add high strength later or buffout on top and add one more drug to reduce cone i can sneak attack with minigun deathclaws in light armor criting them

while they are bare naked thanks to AP ammo even thou i will deal like 16to 19 damage per shot deathclaws have 500 to 750 hp

i will rip them apart easilly

Ammo weights 0,017 per bullet with perk it weights 0.008 per bullet

1000 bullets weights 8 lbs 5000 weights 40 lbs 10 000 80 lbs

you buy surplus ammo which breaks gun easier but deals 1.15x damage and you have it done

and miniguns shoots after half spin circle

@c... So somehow minigun in fo4 is 50% heavier with heavier ammo dealing less damage in game where enemies on average can have even 2x as much health with like 200 armor so its more efficient barefisting enemies than shooting them with minigun

I never understood who thinks about any modern gun needing spinup animation especially when i saw it in starfield its too stupid

5mm rifle and minigun have like 10% damage difference in FNV since they use SAME AMMO

However research about barell and ammo damage is out of mind for guys in Bethy team to look at its possible heretical knowledge

Vrexia streamer can go barefist permadeath FO4 and thats easier than going with minigun i mean unaremd with no weapons in hand 😄 shows how balancing is awfull he can no hit full game with just 10mm non legendary gun @queen canopy

However there aut weapons are a bit less crap than in Fo4

Everyone has their own opinion about various Fallout 4 weapons. My advice? Play around with them. Don't follow the storyline, just play around, explore, learn the Commonwealth, the story will be there when you get back.

i check what you say, it turns out the problem was windows defender, for some reazon it starts to block the folder of fallout, so i found the history of the app and check for matchs with my try to save, so adjust the configuration and solve the problem, thanks a lot

There's no reason to play either before the other, they're totally different games. Some of the mechanics of the games will feel familiar but that's only because they are made by the same company.
My advice for FO4 is enjoy it for what it is, don't go in with huge expectations of this or that and you won't be disappointed. Every game has its flaws, every story has its flaws.
A lot of downers say it should be this or it should be that or compare it with x, but it is what it is and I for one absolutely love fo4 😁

Unfortunately no. Purchases from the Creation Club are not cross platform and are only available on the platform you originally purchased them on.

The quest Mechanical Menace to start the Automotron DLC should pop up some time after hitting level 15 and have access to a settlement. If you meet these requirements open the quest log in your pipboy to see if it is there and you should also have a new radio station added called Caravan Distress Frequency. Listen to the distress call to get started.

If you have the required level to trigger the quest and the caravan distress frequency is not showing up on your pipboy radio you could try wandering over to the cross roads just northeast of Wattz Consumer Electronics where you should encounter Ada and the caravan being attacked. Go help out and when done talk to Ada to start the DLC and her quest line.
It always triggers for me as soon as I get close to where you first encounter her.

So you can basically in conclusion jump in and know how 90% of the game will play in terms of physics and guns and such

One of my biggest problems with starfield is that it kinda lacks the Soul that the fallout games provide with the crazy fantasy post apocalypse stuff and the gore where you just literally rip off limbs and such. It’s actually one of my biggest sadnesses that we don’t have gore in starfield. Even all the creatures in fallout can have their limbs and bodies exploded. so naturally I assumed you could in starfield..

The characters in fallout games are memorable whereas I am on ng+10 in starfield and can’t actually remember anyone’s name.

If you’re looking for an immersive and scary experience, fallout is much more content packed since it takes place in only a few cells versus the thousands of possible generated cells of starfield and its empty planets.

Since you already played fo3 you know that. But fallout4 is a bit more tame than 3. It’s just better tech and ghouls are a bit more human.

Almost exactly what I was hoping to hear. I didn't do a ton of exploring in Starfield, but on like NG+6 or 7, and while I have loved it, felt something was missing. I don't think it's empty, but after the 4-5 main quests, little else to do for me personally.

To me I believe they’ll do more like what they did with fallout 76. They consistently add content over time. There’s been like 17 new expansions for 76. But fallout 4 was a complete experience world to roam from day 1 with not much added besides DLC

A lot of people never gave 76 a chance, but I like it a lot more than 4. They’re basically the SAME game, but 76 just has 10x the content now. And it isn’t empty planet content.

In 2023 not much. But once you beat 4? You’re kinda just done with the game. 76 is like fallout 4 but with more content, more mechanics, more monsters, more areas. You can go through a long quest which is repeatable and expensive to drop a nuke in a place of your choosing on the map. This fundamentally changes gameplay in that area.

you can try and nuke other player bases but they’ll just move their base lol 😂

I wouldn’t chock it down to that. But the purpose of 76 in the end is to be replayable infinitely

and I’m level 550 or so and I still haven’t unlocked everything I want to. Whereas fallout 4 you can play it for 20 hours and then never play it again.
They’re both great games. But start with 4 because you’ll eventually get bored since it doesn’t have as MUCH replay value since it lacks all the mechanics and live world content

If you are worry about the multiplayer part of 76, don’t. You don’t even need to interact with others. You can if you want to? And some players may come and give you some water or something basic to help out 🙂

Yes, you get more outta the game, everything is more important, things you can ignore on lower difficulty are important...
Need settlements for food, water,meds.
Junk is more important, so you will go explore places you may have never been for resources.
Faction rewards are important not only for protection but for getting around the map.
Robots are your best companion, you can build one that carries 600+ pounds.
Supply lines are important for dropping your junk off and having an npc kill things on its route making it safer for you.
To name a few.

Or you can choose to live in diamond city and buy everything you'll need to survive

I’m playing on survival and if your not prepared to die every 40 minutes and then get set back the 40 minutes you just played because you forgot to sleep in a bed, don’t.

It is extremely frustrating although there is a sense of relief and pride when you finish a mission and then sleep in a bed knowing you just completed something that a stray bullet from a raiders pip pistol can’t mess up

Also you’ll find out that a pip pistol is your worst enemy. They are the most common spread weapon and are held by like every single enemy that can use weapons. Stealth is very important and I had to learn that the hard way

Yeah, first thing to do after you help out the Minutemen is to go and complete the Sanctuary mission

Pipe weapons are the best in the game imo, especially for survival...
They use the most common ammo types that you will find on enemies and loot containers, cheap at vendors...
The pipe revolver is especially good because you can have 3 of them with different ammo types and scopes, rifled versions with silencers and the right perks can make them deadly in and out of stealth.

Just finished a game I started couple years ago yesterday, platinum on Playstation with that save. My current game is using this save to get all the Far Harbor trophies.

Playing in third person, why does the game seem to break if I try to enter power armor from the front? (I didn't realize this was a concern until it broke the second or third time; and it was happening before I got any mods at all)

It goes into a cinematic first person view and just kinda shuffles left and right of the front of the armor. And I can only seem to fix by loading most recent save.

It was 3 to 4 times the size of most games on the original PS. It was 3 discs or about 2.4 gigs in size while the average game back then was only 600mb-800mb. Their splitting the remake into 3 parts/games as it'll be a little over 300 gigs when they finish it.

Gets to certain point in the game then it tells you to switch to disc 2 and you would then continue with that disc until it tells to switch to the 3rd disc.

The old consoles didn't have a drive/storage to install games so they just ran from a disc.

FF 8 was bigger it had 4 discs. There were a few other games with 3 or 4 discs but not many.

well 8 damage 11 upgrade does nothing unless its explosive one simply calculation for armor damage goes if armor is more than damage you deal half so everything above 11 armor or lategame above 40 armor and you deal 4 damage above 100 you deal 2 damage per shot.Why well because DPS on paper doesnt mean crap when they dont calculate armor and none of them did.On top of that 5mm spawns lvl 20 24+ when 9 damage gun nut 3 is totally useless and waste of caps.Furthermore they added explosive submachine gun which just ruins whole game Spray n Pray but minigun with same expensive ammo does nothing literally you can test it

so rifle dealing 100 damage against 500 hp target with 100 armor takes 10 shots of 45 caliber while minigun takes 250 shots of 5mm while being heavier making you walk slower and needing to spin-up (doesnt work that way IRL) to make it even more useless

I usually just run a revolver or that one pistol you get from the Railroad (forgot the name) when I play.

I also main a revolver in 76 so ig I use a lot of pistols in Fallout

Well i dont mind pistols hell even heavy weapons in Fo76 are somewhat decent however bethesda is big enemy against heavy weapons in SP they were Okish in FO3 they were good in FNV(but thats obsidian) Fo4 they suck Starfield they suck any automatic has nerfed damage instead of accuracy since thats balance(by balance means almost none using them)

I've always thought the pistols are relatively balanced and ammo for them isn't really hard to find, so that's why I usually go for pistols

when starting 10mm pistol fully upgraded kills legendary deathlclaw 4x faster than fully upgraded minigun you know none gave a damn

2, are there hostiles nearby.
3, are you over encumbered
4, do you have any mods active that might block fast travel.
5, could you fast travel in an earlier save, you may have to revert back to that save.

If none of these apply, you are probably going to need to reinstall.

With those specs and a RTX 4070 you shouldn't have performance issues. You're way over powered for an old game, maybe that's the reason. Support should be able to advise.

If you subscribe to Fallout 1st, you can use a private adventure world (it shares with the public one if you want to move from one to the other), allows you to treat FO76 like a FO single player game for the most part.

You can also play the normal public world and just ignore other players. Anything campaign related tends to be instanced. So people cant ruin that stuff for you generally.

There are two very easy to get Legendary weapons.. an explosive rounds Tommy gun, you can buy from a trader (Cricket) that is often found outside Vault 81.. and a two-shot combat rifle you can buy inside Vault 81

Both excellent for automatic use and they use different ammo to one another, so you can swap around

(if you swap to .308 for the combat rifle)

Something new is being added for paid mods under the Starfield so my guess is they will do Fallout 4 update then sign off on all older games and focus on Fallout 76 and Starfield only, leaving the modders to support the older games

They accepted they made an error in judgement but said they were looking at other ways for paid mods to be in games in future if people so wished. Was a big thing on Reddit i recall

What’s the resolution? Unchecking Windowed for me puts it at my res. But I used to have an ultra wide monitor and it wouldn’t find that. Also, unsure if you use NVIDIA or AMD, but Geforce Experience can sometimes trick games into being your resolution by optimizing them. @gleaming pollen

Starfield or Fallout 4? I vastly prefer Fallout 4 personally, and wish Starfield was a Fallout game. Starfield feels like FO4 in many regards, minus the awesome universe with all the iconic FO stuff I adore.

"Silents xp scaling" (with "zero xp" mod to stop xp once you reach the level you want)

Also a good one to use with these two:
"Poster boy-a complete perk mod"
Then you won't have to worry about starting special.

Afaik, Furious and Wounding is best with Rapid fire weapons, or shotguns.

I want to play fallout 4 survival so bad but the whole ''you can only save when sleeping'' thing is screwing with me because the game constantly crashes even with bugfixes. It even crashes on Series X.

I do not use any mods on Xbox, I solely play vanilla lmao

There's ways to solve this with minor mods, or by resting a lot.

I recently finished a Survival game in F4 on my Series X, unmodded.. it was tough going at the start, but resting when you can solves this. Resting at less than favorable places does lead to certain types of afflictions, but once you get your basic stuff setup then you'll have ways to deal with this quite easily.. this is what I did, and i made sure to fully close and restart the game every once in a while to keep it from crashing.

There's minor mods that adds portable sleeping bags, or that adds a holotape that lets you adjust just about every setting in the game, even giving you quicksave item you can trigger from the D-pad menu.. this will of course disable achievements, and i don't know how to remedy this on console.

Finishing all the content that interested me in Survival let me finally put away Fallout 4 for good.. at least until the next update comes, that promises some content and better gfx.

I went with the Brotherhood for 2 reasons.. Because they're awesome, and for the vertibird smoke grenades. Having vertibirds available for transport all the time made Survival a lot more fun, it was a slog before that.

It's really not an issue, there are mattresses and sleeping bags everywhere... Suddenly things you ignored in lower difficulties are more important, you will notice these beds more often and remember where they are... You get more outta the game playing survival.
