I would have much preferred the west coast in this show be a different kind of apocalyptic — IE the NCR becoming a failed state due to the myriad resource issues they’re shown to have in NV, places seceding from the nation and military crackdowns on unrest, large portions of their territory falling into effective anarchy, but still with a sense that they’re active and out there :p

The NCR is the first 'real' large scale society in the setting of Fallout (barring the Legion), so yeah, people tend to find that interesting. Their conflict was interesting because you have two vastly different nations with also very different ideas on how society should be rebuilt after an apocalypse.

The Enclave is kind of this 'from the shadows' organisation of which you only ever see and hear of its military arm, you never hear much of ''life in the Enclave''.

Ehhh, Enclave are barely a government group. They’re an almost purely military organization just like the Brotherhood whose whole purpose is blindly following the almost cult-like mentality of “destroy enemies of America” that their generations of isolation under fascist dictators instilled in them, without any actual attempts to rebuild, establish territory, etc. they don’t create anything, they just mindlessly destroy.

NCR is the opposite side of the coin as a group completely separate from the corrupt old world oligarchs and actually trying to do more than massacre every single living being that their glorious leader declares an affront to god. They’re a faction with actual complexity and nuance, and had a lot of potential to bring about interesting new avenues for storytelling in the series (like I said, Balkanize ‘em with some civil war, turn California into a massive warzone) ||that the show just kind of throws in the trash by nuking them and turning the survivors into a blood cult that gets wiped out by the Brotherhood :p||

True, but to be fair they did have avenues to tell this exact story with almost no changes without ||nuking the NCR government into oblivion|| — I can explain later but one of the biggest “wut” moments of the show for me was that they pretty blatantly retcon Shady Sands to be in or very near the ruins of Los Angeles when in every appearance prior it’s been up near the Sierra Nevada Mountains and Death Valley. ||Los Angeles is canonically one of their “states of the union” separate from the “state of Shady” that Shady Sands is located in, and whose capital city is New Adytum, which they could easily have used as the nuke target instead||

While the Brotherhood creates vastly superior soldiers, their numbers are a lot smaller than that of the NCR. Like at the Battle of Helios One. As Mr House put it - ideological purity and shiny power armor don't count for much when you're outnumbered 15:1.

To be fair to you re: the Brotherhood war, it was also pretty clearly a pyrrhic NCR victory — they lost tons of troops in suicide charges against deeply entrenched BOS bunkers and the war technically never ended — still lots of Brotherhood holdouts fighting with guerilla tactics

Sliding into off-topic but if I could make one semi-major mod suggestion, it would be "Brave New World" by dracomies. One of the biggest issues the game had from its short development other than bugs and crashes is that voice acting for non-major characters was super rushed and sometimes characters were given voice actors who didn't match their appearances, or even had appearances that didn't really match their writing.

Mod angles to fix that and brings in a lot of really talented amateur voice actors to redo the dialogue of certain characters with particularly bad cases of "we need you to record all of this in one sitting with almost no time or budget for retakes," and to add more variety/polish to some faces (a surprising amount of characters, especially random extras, all have the same face lol)

I think they are all wrongly assuming that the raiders she left behind in the vault are the new face of the NCR, rather than some expendable zealots or raiders for the job||

I believe ||the father and son scavenged the gear given how it didn’t fit them properly. As for those she used for the vault raid, likely promised some raiders/mercs the spoils of war per say for helping with her plan. I.E., a vault and supplies within, at the cost of helping her capture Hank.||

But even if they aren't really NCR, the NCR members we see at the observatory are growing crops and building a community, where as the raiders from the vault didn't seem to care about anything past their own amusement ||

For context Shady Sands in the games was, based on the world map, about 240 km north of LA in the middle of the desert far, far away from any pre-apocalypse ruins (its whole shtick was having been built "from scratch" using adobe/sandcrete and imported salvage materials they traded crops/cattle for). In the show it's within a day or two's walking distance of Hollywood Hills (major part of the LA metro area) and in flashbacks you can see ruined pre-apocalypse skyscrapers right outside its walls

New Vegas meanwhile is actually pretty 1:1 on the distance between places and their positions, aside from being shrunk down a bunch due to technical limitations. I had a map I threw together of all the locations based on pre-show lore that I posted in the screenshots channel but I guess they deleted it for not being a screenshot :P which is fair I guess

cuz like, Adytum was also an iconic FO1 location and was home to a lot of important and significant stuff for the NCR, even if it was only mentioned and never seen, and would still have had ||that same devastating effect on the nation that they wanted: it had a tuition-free university operated by the Followers of the Apocalypse (most unambiguously benevolent and charitable faction in the franchise), was the center of the NCR's arms manufacturing industry (so would have crippled their military), and was the headquarters of their federal reserve (which would have tanked their economy)||

ehhh I'd argue its a pretty major detail considering that it changes a lot of the context and backstory of Shady Sands and retroactively raises questions about whether the events of Fallout 1 played out at all like they do in the game (since that game's story relies on you starting out visiting Shady Sands in the north and slowly making your way south to LA for the ending) 🤷‍♂️

And like I've pointed out, this isn't just something you can write off with timeskips and "oh they just put the vfx skyscrapers in the background without thinking about it", at least one piece of actual spoken dialogue directly says Shady Sands is near-ish to Hollywood now :p

I'd stop approaching this as a veteran fallout fan, and someone that has to manage a show, actors, and produce something viable by deadlines to an audience that has never engaged with Fallout before.

Would fit with a lot of their new traditions, like giving kids they take in new, roman-sounding names and the heightening of their religious aspects to such a major degree||

Arthur was led to believe the cover story that she died in battle, because they knew he idolized her, and he finds out between the events of FO4 and FO5 and goes ballistic, kicks off a purge of anyone involved and inadvertently sparks a civil war between those loyal to him and those loyal to the Brotherhood's traditions, and that this would be, if not the focus of FO5's story, a major part of its backdrop||

Ehhh Arthur Maxson is a complicated and nuanced figure IMO. ||He's pretty clearly been indoctrinated to some extent by Brotherhood traditionalists since his appearance as a 10-year-old boy in the previous game, but still has that Lyons-inspired core of wanting to help wastelanders. He hates super mutants and seems racist against ghouls but otherwise seems to genuinely desire to protect innocent lives as Sarah did, even if his methods are colored by some less than great ideology.||

I want add some ideas of mine, when the Writers want to introduce or show at last the V.A.T.S. System in Future Episodes:

||If Lucy are allowed to find some one use only V.A.T.S. prototype (with some Fo4 Google Lens solution). Also because you know prototypes are well known for being reckless on the user or unstable because the energy power (because Lucy would then become to OP in battles or this technique would create to much of a headache for the Writers. Also CGI Budget)||

||So if Lucy use this V.A.T.S. with restrictions and her nerves become numb of usage||

||If Maximus is nearby he could use his Muscles or the Power Armor ones to piggyback her. You know, some sort of old children playground swing with it's ropes bind together around the Power armors neck or heavy Lifting Hook points (or like some Mount Everest Human Sherpa carriers solution) and with her sitting on the Swing plate. An Power Armor is a bit tricky to hold the Arms in position to carry her all this time. Perhaps some sort of Chest belt to avoid her fallen down. Important is that the Carrier has his Arms free for defense. I bet the Designers would find some solution now, if they plan to use this Idea.||

||If Lucy would be together with the Ghoul, he surly would build some sort of old Native American Indian Horse solution like they used to carry wounded Soldiers back in time. If they do not have an Horse then of course he could use some sort of wheel barrow, too (same function just with an Wheel). Perhaps he learned that on his Battlefield and perhaps they could do some feedback of this time. Perhaps with his Friend that gave this Card for invention to this Special Club . He looked like some Native Indian American for me||

Just been reading the reviews on Amazon out of curiosity, the primary 1* reason is advert breaks, so nothing to do with the show itself. Some folks saying too gory….I’ll admit, it does hit the point where it could almost be an 18 rated (or similar for whatever country you are in) show, but it falls just shy imo. And then some folks talking about lore, except most of them dont actually say whats been contradicted. A few do, and some of their points are agreeable, but to downplay the whole show as not worthy for that reason is a little, I dunno, petty. I more than get how much some people love the original games and NV, but its up to the games producers where they take something, and based on what I saw, even if some things may not line up perfectly, the show itself was a fantastic piece of TV, way better than a lot of TV release in recent years (if you are looking for the various genres this universe hits). I forgot about a show I saw more recently that was very good, Snowpiercer, the film i didnt get on with, but the TV show was brilliant. Before that, TV wise, it’s Lost and BSG….unless you lose sci-fi, then its West Wing, Bones, House and NCIS lol

I am a huge Star Wars fan, and I mean the original film, to me it’s better than Empire Strikes Back. I read Splinter of the Minds Eye early on, and picked up on Timothy Zahns novels when they released, and read all the other EU books after it. Then Disney buys it out, says ignore all that, new stuff incoming (although they borrow on quite a few things from prior). Their stuff is hit and miss, a lot of it isnt Star Wars to me, although I did like Rogue One, Solo and Obi-Wan. Mandalorian was ok first 2 series, Book of Boba and Mando series 3 I wasnt so fussed by. I wish they’d used Tim Zahns work and Kevin J Anderson to name the best two, plus a few others like Stackpole, their writing was soo good. Fallout TV show though is different, I think they’ve done a fantastic job of making me feel at home. When I saw the first Disney Star Wars move (I honestly can never remember its name now), in the cinema, having avoided spoilers for weeks, and went to see it on the first day, I was feeling meh bye the end of the first scene….such a sad day for me. So glad fallout didnt end like that for me.

I mean a similar thing happened with Roger Maxson in 76, beforehand we knew nothing of the man, we could only assume who he was based on how the Brotherhood operated as a whole. Unfortunately some people were miffed that Roger didn’t fall in line completely with what we saw as the standard Brotherhood, even tho I think the point was how people looked at him as this Legendary figure in terms of him being what every Brotherhood Member should strive to be even tho the reality is that he was different in some key ways in how he wanted the BOS to be and act.

I just don't get it. I'm a big Star Trek fan. I don't care for Discovery and I thought that the first two seasons of Picard were genuinely terrible in myriad ways. It would never even enter my mind to do anything other than calmly express my dissatisfaction and the reasons for it online and then move on. The biggest compliment I can give Fallout the show is that I've never checked the run time. That's a big problem with me in hour+ shows. Breaking Bad, Stranger Things, Game of Thrones, can't do it. But the pacing in Fallout is so good.

Fo2 has an encounter called guardian of forever. t Fo76 mentions it with pylon v13 with the doctor that hints he managed to time travel. My gut feeling is that moldaver didn’t age at all because she found a way to time travel. This would explain why she hasn’t aged a bit. ||

However, when you play operation anchorage, it’s a completely different scenario. You get flashes and you can die whilst playing it. Even stranger you get stripped off all your equipment to play the questline. So is it a full simulation at that point, or some kind of crazy time travel? The point is that the whole fallout might just be a time simulation. As the executive at vault Tec, the ghouls wife points out that the biggest wmd is time. Maybe this is what they were implying||
