It's kinda my plan. I have a list for a big overhaul project. Most of it is going to be lore/quests and adding assets (weapons, vehicles, gadget's, etc). I always keep an eye out for free mods to add to the project. Going to be a whole new game when I'm done 🤙

I'm trying to make a modded outfit where I use a vanilla model to replace a different outfit using custom textures. Right now it seems I'm getting close to getting it working, but the game just renders what I changed completely glossy black. In the creation kit and nifskope I see the correct custom colors and everything, so I think something is going wrong in the game engine itself? I copied the original .nif from the original outfit, copied the .mat from the outfit that will be replaced and changed the paths to my custom textures. In the .nif I changed the path of the .mat to my custom one and saved the .nif. Then in the creation kit I pointed the ArmorAddon of the upperbody part to my custom .nif in the biped model option and pointed the .morph to the original one of the original outfit. Is there anyone able and willing to assist me here?

you need to be running the mod from your esm, with the textures/materials/etc packed into their respective archives
(this gets painful during testing, but otherwise your edits won't show up)

I believe that means the game found your materials, but can't find the textures, so they're likely in the wrong place. Same happened to me a while back, I ended up with this accidental shiny black latex catsuit 
If you're testing, while loose materials will get picked up in the game directory, textures won't. They need to go in your Documents\My Games\Starfield\Data.
I mean if you released that shiny black catsuit you'd get thousands of plays, I can think of at least two streamers who'd be using it by the weekend.

lmao i feel dumb, I was putting my textures etc. in the game install folder because I thought I remembered that was how it worked. Put everything in the my games folder and it works. Now onto the manual labour of changing all those paths again... Thanks for the quick help @slim sun and @timid temple !

The closest hab is gonna be the 2x1 armory with both weapons and spacesuit bench. Industrial benches are in the engineering and reactor habs. I do have plans for a workshop hab with all three but it’s lowest on the priority list atm

I'm not sure what would be the point. If you care about the AF status, then you wouldn't be using a patch, which isn't AF.
Plus my All in One isn't AF either, and cannot be AF. It has a dependency, and any paid mod (even AF ones) cannot have dependencies.
And Matilija has committed that the free and AF will always be in parity.

I have never installed mods before
Nexus mods and using Vortex keeps it simple
Please be more specific than the pacific because it makes recommendations so much easier when we have at least some idea of what you want.

Improves is the key problem cause it could mean anything and people’s definition of improve can be controversial.
More enemy variety is better, check out bedlam as a base to start with.
If you’re willing to pay forgotten frontiers 1 & 2 are the gold standard in adding full POI dungeons.

Yeah there's 2 techniques. POI Variations to get the vanilla ones not repeating or use forgotten frontiers and other mods to dilute the pool

Make sure to do due diligence looking at any payed creations, channels like starfield essentials have great reviews.
There's some poor quality content, but also some excellent quest content (e.g. milkartist & AlmightySE)

Creations is more popular, there's a ton of great free stuff uploaded on both. See the free version of real fuel (do recommend all of s1derons gameplay mods) on both nexus and creations.
Oh there are excellent mods in Both Nexus and Creations. I like everything that Inquisitor has made. He has a few Quest mods that gain you gear, very useful. Also modification for use on your weapons at the workbench.
One mod I use of Inquisitor adds a watch with Starborn powers at the end of the Ryujin quest line.

Starfield punching above its weight if you willing to pay about a coffee for the content.
Don't use vortex, it uses loot to sort which is an incredibly problematic broken way to do (nexus has hired a mo2 dev to make their new manager so even they are abandoning it), use mo2
So the Ryujin missionboard missions are pretty weak, but they could at least have more diversity. I have a Ryujin mission upgrade I would like to release this week. It will give you the option of more missions overall, and due to how I am changing the location selection it will select mission locations that you previously saw very rarely. I will also release one patch with it that will add three of the mini missions (hack, sabotage, plant evidence) to Falkland's offices. Possibly can do patches for other vanilla locations or locations added in other mods (open to suggestions). It'll be pretty easy to add in other locations to missions.
I need a tester or two on PC who is near or already past the Ryujin main quest so they can test the missionboard.

I would've made an overmap model "GO" for all of the outfits by now, but sadly applying them would require overwriting all of the vanilla outfits and that's just sad.

I really wish there was a better way. Simply prevent any map markers from being explored. That's it. But this is the only way I can get it to work seamlessly to the current existing markers that we have in the game.
Honestly, I would prefer a mod that replaces the go model with a render of the menu character preview in the workbenches.
The current preview is completely useless as you dont see any changes to outfits (like skins)

@gloomy jolt Factions and Encounters doesn't add more frequent encounters it just adds different enemies to a lot of vanilla POIs. It's really cool though and I put up patches that patch them into more POIs from mods.
I'm using the compact Ryujin assault rifle. It's pretty cool.
No icon for quick select bar though
ProfX has an AmmoHUD patch for it that adds that, and if you're not into the other things AmmoHUD does, there's a version that's weapon icons only. That's the version I use, patches for the other versions work with it.

Usually keep to HyperX weapons I think but that Ryujin one is niice and doesn't have crazy weapon sway
The RCAR is so popular on the DSHQ server that the patching team didn't even get a chance to patch this one, Wykkyd did it himself.
I like the bullpup design which really fits for stealth or ship boarding where you don't want a big long weapon
Exactly it fit perfect for a stealthy agent playthrough once you add a suppressor.

I have noticed a mods that locks up another mod and not sure if anyone can fix it properly
The mod that breaks a part of a quest is the cheat terminal that breaks the watchtower quest that you do towards the end
you should report that to Kinggath Creations on their Discord, their support team may be able to help you with this.

No clue since I do not understand the tech stuff but all I know is when you get to the part where you talk torin out of being left behind and if you have the cheat terminal mod he does the sparkly part then goes in the middle and it doesn't send him into the void space
But if you save at the start of the room and disable the mod it works

On PC you can use a console command to remove the perk, next version adds a new chem that removes it too.

If you mean on Creations - then yes. The interface is not what I would call exceptionally user friendly without a mod author being very purposeful in the description space.
Which is its own enemy when users don't like to read desne description fields.
I’ve seen it more times where the modder was gracious enough to detail which mods were required with their mods and which ones were incompatible with their mods.

You can set mods as required on the website, but that field does not show up in the in-game menu, only on the website version. So if a mod is missing and not mentioned in the description itself, perhaps check the website and see if it's listed there at the very bottom of the description page.

Im not sure if that complicates or changes how you may do it versus how I should do it.
oooh you're going the other way around. I'm not sure what the best way to get a suit out of the game files, but it might also depend on what you're trying to do with it.
All I can really say is that my tutorial works best when you use the same things I did and are trying to get things into the game instead of out

That is a visual bug of the creation page. When you update a mod it is indeed fully updated and stays fully updated. However, the mods version number seems to be baked into your save file. Which means the creation store seems to think that you have the mod version installed that you had when you hit the new game button for that save.

Not many other games can be modded to the extend of a Bethesda game. Modding comes with issues, that's nothing new. They will fix it eventually I am sure.
And even if not, its just a visual bug, so no big deal.

Doesn't work with the PC Gamepass version.
Engine Fixes has presented some conflicts when creating mods for Vanilla+ experience for both PC/Consoles but it adds some great fixes for PC players. It would be nice for more of these desired fixes to roll out in the base game 🙏
Basically there are currently three versions of the game, and Engine Fixes works with the least popular of the three.
And next year we're getting two more...
So Engine Fixes is awesome and great and LK is doing a huge service to the community, but most people can't benefit from it, and mods can't assume it will be present.

I tried one but it isn't working
It requires script extender, and SFSE is not supported on the game pass version. There's way to get it to work, but it's not really straight forward
And adding instability to your game would somewhat defeat the purpose. 😄
Certain mission boards, like Crimson Fleet and Va'ruun, require changes to the conditions for how those quests can start for the boards to properly refresh. But the others should work with any of the mods that add them.
Are there any mods that offer SHORTS?
I believe it’s a bug with the Creations menu where it will show some mods as permanently needing updating despite you already having updated them.
I had this issue for a while on Xbox and was able to fix it be clearing out my reserved space and doing a power cycle.
Not sure which platform you’re playing on but you might be able to do something similar and see if that helps at all.
Not specifically just for that, but my Lambent Street Rat Ship Services mod has both a buildable mission board, and one pre-installed in the cargo hab, that gives access to all faction radiant quests (except the Crimson Fleets currently) from your ship or any outpost

Iirc, medium masters are the evil ones that should be avoided if possible, but cannot be changed in xedit either. Light masters are basically the esls of Starfield, but can also not be changed with xedit at this point.

I know that if you want to change something in the CK, you should use some tools to convert your full master esm to an esp. But I dont think this is necessary for editing stuff in xedit.

You can but only if they aren't dependent on a light or medium master file like most of the official BGS update files. Found this out the hard way when trying to edit a patch esp for my mod. The dependent mod for the patch is a light master and also uses some of the BGS updates as dependent master files, which are also light or medium masters, so cleaning in xEdit is useless. Cleaning my own base mods esp in xEdit, which has no other dependencies other than Starfield.esm, works like a charm
until the latest version...

The annoying part is they refuse to even work on fixing it, they claim its a bethesda issue (it isn't, if it works for first party tools then its on third party tools to keep up not the other way around). They just don't care because its starfield so they are pushing blame on bethesda
Yeah I just clarified what the issue is and its literally just that switching between full, medium, and small breaks mods that have them as masters. So the fact that the thing that you're not supposed to do breaks mods is the reason they refuse to update xedit. So yeah its petty nonsense
Highly doubtful of a 2.0 update. I think something is coming, but I would be very surprised on a 2.0 update in the vein of CDPR’s overhaul of CP2077

I think you need to go over and read Jonathan's response as he's quoted the technical explanation behind why xedit doesn't currently play nice with small and medium master files.
I did and its paper thin. Just not handling the increased masterlists is a joke of an excuse. Hell half of the excuse is just that well switching from one to the other breaks mods (something that is actively advised against and is incredibly easy to avoid). The other half is an unquantifiable "it'd take a lot of work to redo the code" which I highly doubt as again its just a new masterlist
Not to mention they are also actively advising people to not use medium and small masters despite the fact that by their own admission their us nothing wrong with them. They only have issues if you change from one to the other
Actually it would take a great deal of work to make xedit fully compatible with the new system. I've spent many a day discussing it with the guy who's doing a lot of the dev work on that front.
There's also the issue of subrecords with Reflection data in them that cannot be edited at all due to how those structures work.
That said, I don't agree with some people on that server telling people not to use small or medium masters. They work fine in the game.
In fact the container expansion mod I did is a small master and nobody has ever said it's not working because of that.

I do not blame anyone for not putting the work into Starfield. Bethesda has to make Starfield into something people want to play and mod first.
I still enjoy it and like to make mods for it, but switching back and forth between SF and FO4 is painful, because it shows how much lacking SF is on the modding side.

I miss the days when we don't have to worry about medium files and other esm files when we use esp often for modding. Now people fear using esps would break the game in Starfield. The plugin limit in Starfield and the forced use of esms to play the game is tedious.
And yes, Arthmoor's right. Wish xEdit would be able to allow us to edit the esms without errors or whatnot. I stopped playing Starfield, not because I despise it (because I really want to play it again) only because the crashes I get in the game when I fast travel to major cities and I do not want to go to the Unity, but apparently the save bloats and plugin limit is preventing me to play the game unless I start a new game or delete mods. But deleting mods while loading my current save now breaks the game severely more than previous Bethesda game, leaving me the only option to delete mods and start a new game.
You do realize that the plugin limit in starfield is higher than any other Bethesda game right? True right now there is a record limit but that's not quite the same thing. And the switch from esp's to esm's has nothing to do with that. In fact the switch to esm's is almost exclusively a good thing with the only downside so far is that xedit doesn't work with the new esm formats. And removing mods in any Bethesda game has never been safe and is not more dangerous in starfield, the level of breakage and the speed at which it breaks is down to the size of the mods, the scope of the mods, what you are currently doing in game, and so on
the main issues are bethesda making the light and medium masters' internal form IDs inconsistent, and suddenly having introduced several kinds of data structures in their plugins
It should also be noted that if xedit gets their way and bethesda does change the system it would break every non full master mod made to date, which includes paid creations. So their solution to avoid doing the work is to break thousands of mods

As far as I know Bethesda is well aware of what would need to be done to fix the situation.

I love Va‘ruun’Kai! The only reason I haven’t done anything with it currently is because I’ve been working on general all purpose building mods and dont want to add a DLC dependency to those outside of add on packs, and large paid mods which can’t use Shattered Space as a dependency
I think I’ve seen some people saying there’s a lack of access to things like scripts currently for Shatter Space, so it’s possible others haven’t because they didn’t have access to some of the parts they needed for their mods.
I have a few Va’ruun mods on my “to do list” but as folks might have already figured out, my to do list is looooong and my projects all seem to take an age to complete

if its level 20 system, they should be level 20 to 25 something like that.
There's dynamic universe but that's your level instead of the system level after you are higher than the system
Yeah Ive seen a couple of level scaling mods but that is not what I am after
All it would take to be fixed on the mod author side is to update the plugin by loading the .esp and reconverting it to whichever type of master they want once such an update is done. So it's not a doom and gloom end of the world thing.

There's one sleepwear in the game, skinning it would be a quick way to make a bunch of them. There's a couple of suits that could be reskinned to look like more expensive jammies, even more if you take FDR's suit and whack out the tie and shirt in nifskope.

Iirc that is a bug that occurs when you start a new game with a mod that skips the intro. Can be fixed by saving/reloading the save
I did try that, didn't work tho. unless I needed to head all the way to desktop. i ended up making sure my plugin order was saved in MO2 first but I followed what I saw some mention for other audio issues and while in creations disabled all plugins, exited game > loaded game. re-enabled everything. then hopped back out to make sure I had MO2 put everything back in the order I had. then loaded game/save and problem solved.

why does creation club like to let me update a mod and when i leave the game it reverts to the last version
Creation club has a programming issue. It will place say 8 mods in updates constantly. Programmers have sent info to Bethesda on fixing the issue. But fixes have not been done. The fix would not be a needed update. They can fix it directly in Creations.
Well i ask because one mod the version does not match the one I am playing my save has the up to date version it is 1.0.4 but it keeps putting it back to 1.0.3
If the Mod author does not change the version info in the update - it will show what is in that update. It may say Version 1.0 when it is 3.2.1 .

Ooh interesting. being the weaponsmith/blacksmith miner in most games when the option presents itself, that Argos stuff spoke to me lol. I'm about done finishing up a revamped load order for a new start and hopefully the few weird issues I had with my followers getting hung up pathing up the some of the steps to get inside will have gone away(likely attributed to some conflict in my messy load order)
Still, will definitely be on the lookout for more of your work. Your Argos stuff gives me good tools to rehome Lyn and Heller when I don't have room on the ship

I really dig the miner themed aesthetic too, and still got some more things I want to add to the Argos mod on a future update
What I like about the Argos mod is it's a believable place that can be on just about any planet you wanna use them on. I'm currently using them to build my base of operations for my Pirate playthrough. Abandoned Argos installation now unexpected pirate HQ.

I think it what I had happening was not able to get them to path up any of the stairs that formed and couldn't path up to and into the airlocks, I just figured it was my load order and something was messing with things.
Not sure if someone could help me. but if I've got some form id's via console from clicking on an item in game. how was it I could read that to determine the mod the item/object was attached to? I've got some wonky stuff just falling out of the sky I'm trying to pinpoint what mod I added today/yesterday is causing it lol.
I'm currently doing the usual, disable a few mods > load game > check process, but i figured if i could remmeber how to tell what mod an object is from based off the console information that would speed things up

I want to play it so much, but for the second time now it starts all good for the first couple of hours with the mod only to then fall apart pretty quickly. Adding more and more issues to my game to the point where I don't want to continue with it.
That is so very frustrating because apart from some design decisions I really don't like the overall mod is fun and engaging.

Kinda. The novelty wore off after the first 5 times I played it.
We do but not a power sword and the knife I'm referencing is the one you see on Vigilance armour so it looks like you're carrying the same blade
I feel that, the gameplay loop is not fun enough for me to bother with the design decisions I dont like, the limitations holding the mod back and the issues and bugs that slowly tear my game apart lol.
There are 2 reasons it’s even still in my load order, I paid for it and that I spent a LOT of time pimping out my room on stardock.

It is widely believed that the recent change to add ultra low graphics settings was to make it run better on the Switch 2 when they release it. Of course many things are "widely believed" so take that with a small Siberian salt mine.
I guess we’ll see, seeing as how Todd had the audacity to re release ANOTHER version of Skyrim, I wouldn’t put it past him and BGS to find a way for Starfield to be on the switch 2.
I have legitimately considered the question while modding, like "there are two ways I could do this... hmm, if we don't get external assets on Switch 2 or PlayStation, way #1 wouldn't be available, so I'll do way #2 instead"

I think both times I've ever considered trying to use one of the built-in default scripts for something simple, it has ended up doing something I didn't want it to. For those who restrict themselves to them, you have my (and I guess Sony's) respect, but that's not for me.

But seriously, the book selection in Starfield is abysmal.
One thing I love about Skyrim is the ability to collect books and display them on bookshelves.
There are some cool mods to make it easier to display books, and some that add more books. Also WykkydGaming, the DarkStar author, is a dark fantasy fiction author and has the preludes of some of his books in DarkStar as new books.

My current character likes to pick up knick knacks while she’s out and about and display them in her home base.

The only minor issue I have with that one is that there are quite a lot of slates in the game with type "none" which all end up showing the book UI then. But it is nice work, very pretty.

Its been a known issue for a very long time. Programmers sent the fix to Bethesda to implement on the Creations servers. But as you can see it is still happening. I have about 7 to 9 that popup every login saying needs updating but they do not need to be updated. I just check on them every 2 weeks to see if there really is an update. <shrug> . The needed fix is on the Creations server and not needed via an Update.

load doors in itself cannot be used inside packins
stuff linking to each other inside a packin is fine
as long as its not linking outside it

@sharp lynx Sorry to ping you out of the blue, but I had a question with your Galactic Harvest Mod. While I was doing some testing on a soon to be new save.
I also took a look at the " Noel's Greenhouse " creation patch that allows us to use some of the Galactic Harvest features in the Lodge, It adds a work table in the basement to access some of the growing features but it has a few display screens that seem to be oddly positioned/clipping thru. I had reached out to Sweatpea the mod author of the patch to inquire about it. They mentioned the asset's weren't theirs but from your creation so they couldn't really fix the creation patch on their end. it seems to specifically be the compact botany lab table. Is this something that would be an easy fix?
Weirdly enough. I just re-enabled skk fast start so I could check on something on a separate new save(I've since started my actual save up proper w/Forgotten Frontiers 2 disabled)
On the test save that creation is still disabled, but I just got a bundle of random clutter including a ladder and some other stuff drop from the sky. Now I have no idea where that batch came from

Hi all, does anyone know if the locations from the mod “Tiny Reasons to Explore…Too!” spawn in biomes without life? I’m using the mod Desolation and trying to avoid out-of-place/manmade locations spawning on planets without life. Tagging @surreal storm in case they are on 🙂

Not sure about the spawns on planets without life, but iirc thats only one of the things desolation does.

I checked the change logs for Tiny Reasons to Explore and Tiny Reasons to Scavenge and it looks like both of those mods were updated to prevent certain locations from spawning on planets without life because they would break immersion, so it would be awesome if Tiny Reasons…Too! got the same treatment.
Yep, it's getting a toggle called Desolation Mode that will allow you to disable this soon. But at this current moment there is a seperate location pool for planets without life even without this toggle

Starfield currently has a couple of limits that are kind of easy to exceed. Not saying that this applies to you. But there is apparently a big issues with the game running out of IDs if you are using too many large mods.
Which means its mostly about the records in a mod.
That is something Bethesda has to fix

Tbh, LOs for Starfield are not that complicated. Imo most guides out there are kind of useless. Sorting all mods of the same kind in groups together does not serve any purpose but your convenience.
The main purpose of sorting your LO is "solving" conflicts. Mods that do not cause any conflicts should be load order neutral.
Some exceptions to this rule, but there is no real explanation to this. Might be that we don't know enough about Starfields mod structures yet, but some mods behave weirdly if they are not loaded before or after specific others and nobody really knows why.
It also serves the convenience of the people you're showing your load order to, which is often the difference between "I looked at your LO and found this problem" vs "I didn't look at your LO because it's an unorganized mess and I have a day job and several hobbies."
And of course there is stuff like masters need to be loaded before the mod they are a master of but that is nothing you can really influence, the game will just forcefully do it.

If you dont want to look at a LO just because its not sorted in categories you should maybe not offer to look at a LO at all. A LO can be perfectly well sorted even if it doesnt follow any of those LO guides.
But thats just my opinion. Sure it looks nice and is convenient, I do it myself partially, but there is really no need to.

Is any modder working on bosses for this game or is there a plan to add a mod that adds bosses to this game? Just curious.

When I say bosses, I mean like bosses in either human or alien form. I would appreciate a large alien boss that is an Eldritch Horror. Just wild, insane bosses/creatures the character can stumble across. Maybe I’m “not playing the game right” or whatever, but I haven’t stumbled on to any noteworthy bosses. I got them all the time in Skyrim.

Ah yeah most SF bosses aren't anything like that, they're just stronger enemies that have epic/legendary gear spawn as loot. And a big health bar.

There's also ExoWarlock's "Starborn Among Us", which turns a lot of enemies into tougher variants, including POI minibosses. Puts them on par with faction questline bosses.

you'll get more from quests and bounties I think. Especially the Freestar questline's side bounty system, that gives you a guaranteed boss every four bounties.
Shoot, that questline is blocked off for me in this game save. I suppose it makes sense theoretically in my playthrough, since I’m UC loyal. So points for the game’s bugs to work in my favor. Lol
You can use Waylayer (Creation). It allows you to configure, through gameplay settings, Terrormorph ambushes during planetary traversal.
I'll have terrormorph nests as one of the new locations for Explore Space, but that's delayed by a few weeks due to my artist being sick right now

Sure. I'll add this as a stop gap and then once I (very likely) have to remake the station spawning for the next Starfield update I'll look into giving options of location pool customization
