ODST Armor is a small mod, can't have that as a master in xEdit.
Starfield plugins are so scuffed, swear esl and esp used to be able to be masters

It is technically a master file, it's just small, medium and large/full masters now instead of esp, .ESL and .ESM
It's just Xedit can only edit full masters

Correct Xedit is the only way to edit an esm
Esp were always parent files and not flagged as master files
There's a header flag that sets it as a masterfile it won't be marked as one or have the conditions as one until that is set

You could ask the mod author to make a replacer
You could do it in the CK, just not in xEdit. It just needs ODST as a master (you can have small masters in the CK, no problem) and then override the vanilla outfit(s) with the armor from the mod.

Is there a way to clear all edits for a particular cell in CK?
Xedit is the primary tool for cleaning those yea, sadly I'm not home to give a detailed rundown on that
Or could I create a large master, edit it, then save it back down as a medium?
I tried xEdit at first, but it wouldn't save since it's a medium master.
It's actually pretty crazy all you have to do to cause the ck to mark and entire area as edited is by placing any item there it will turn mark the entire loaded cell as overridden
This will change your formID
So it will mess up anything used prior

You might have accidentally edited something that was used by said cells and it edited them by extension, that's just my hypothesis

If your esp goes from 800kb to 15k kb that's a good sign you've overridden a cell
Generally it's safe to edit interior cells tho this applies to map stuff more than interior stuff
In the window where you select the files to load, select your plugin and hit the details tab. A new window with all edited/added forms open, find the rail and hit CTRL + DEL to set the record as ignored - then reload your plugin in CK and save it.
You can use CTRL + F to search for a FormID which you can pick up in xEdit.

if it's not released you can change as much as you like, will not impact anything.

This is normal, especially the aaMarkers cell getting flagged without ever opening it - something is in that cell triggering it.

Assume you've made dirty edits with every mod
With this being my first, I am sure it's pretty dirty. But for sure will try and clean it up.
You'll be able to tell easy by the file size of your esm/esp
You can use the same procedure as mentioned earlier for removing ITMs as well
If your esm/esp file size is massive, it absolutely shouldn't be unless you've done a whole load of map edits

The way I’ve done it is to go into the reference edit and click the “initially disabled” check box. That way the object won’t show, but you’re not deleting anything

There's only been one for the Trader AFAIK - Starborn Trader - Persistent Location
In my own experience, it doesn't work consistently. If I'm remembering right, it worked once, but the Trader didn't stay there.

Yeah, I'm talking about objects in a world space like a bench, or guardrail. The only reference I was able to find was about FO4 and Skyrim and some said to disable them, not delete them. Deleting didn't work anyway. I have been able to delete some objects though, like trash, decals, etc.. but there is one bench, and one guardrail I need to remove.

A cave on Dazra, turns out, after clearing out all the zealots for a side mission, you get a free house inside that literally NO ONE tells you about.

It was called Jandar’s Rest before clearing it out, you get the quest from some lady that thinks she’s onna get assassinated

Has anyone run into an issue where havok refuses to work in the creation kit? I have tried deleting everything and reinstalling both starfield and the creation kit but havok refuses to work I am just trying a simple test of dropping a beowulf in new atlantis and it just alls through everything I am starting to feel like I am insane

I remember coming across this myself, it was one of several reasons why I abandoned my Jarek's Rest overhaul. There's a known "unknown 9" flag bug that can cause this, but it doesn't seem to be the problem here unfortunately. I eventually gave up trying to solve it as Jarek's Rest has other issues too, like navmeshing that will eventually cause most of the NPCs there to clump in a few spots and stop moving.
The vendors there are supposed to be named too (or rather they're not supposed to be just called "citizen") but it's done in their quest aliases and Bethesda forgot to link two of them to the correct messages.
The trespassing bug is also intermittent. You can sleep there in the day, not at night 🤷

The "nuclear option" would be to just give the PlayerFaction ownership of the cell, I know that works. Doesn't seem like it should be required though, even setting the cell as public and clearing existing ownership on it doesn't work, but giving it to the PlayerFaction does.
That would be SetCellOwnership 0100C763 0001C21C in the console, exit and re-enter if you're already inside after doing that.

It's not actually pilotable because I couldn't figure a way out to block a ship from landing on a planet, but you can dock with it and call it to your current space location!

Time flies when you are juggling between CK, Nifskope, Blender and whatever else.
Mostly CK, 3DSMax and Substance Painter for me
(And my skills are so basic, cannot imagine how time consuming it must be if you do some real stuff in these tools)
Using 3dsmax and the official conversion tool for the nifs makes it a lot faster.
I am really happy to finally see an outfit mod that uses original assets. We have seen so many reuses of vanilla stuff, at some point it feels like you've seen it all.
Of course there are some ports as well, but much like with weapons, I am a sucker for original content.
Wanted to have something that drew inspiration from some iconic armours but still felt unique and fit into Starfield
My favorite port is still the porter armor from Death Stranding, that fits so well into Starfield for some weird reasons.
Oh and of course the Titanfall stuff
But apart from that, I dont feel most of the ports.
I have to keep my game mostly vanilla for testing and ensuring that what I show is what users will experience so I haven't checked out many other mods in a while

A bit of both, so to speak.
There will be industrial areas like the engine room and maintenance corridors.
Then there will be sections similar to the Vigilance for control stations and the command center.
But there will also be more high end sections for various living compartments such as kitchen, quarters, recreation. Tho not sure it'll be quite a fancy as the Siren of the Star.
Oh I was thinking more of the outside appearence
but that's also very good to know
Outside may be a mix of station parts combined with Deimos, I'm trying to fit everything into the ship instead of a separate location to add lots of windows looking into space

Hey folks! I'm brand new to modding - be gentle. I'm setting up my files for learning the CK. I'm trying to edit a material and ran into a few issues. Realized I needed to put the material files from contentresources.zip into my Starfield/data/ folder structure to get it to read the material and allow me to edit. Now I'm seeing its not reading the textures. Should I just dump everything from contentresources.zip into the working data directory? Or is there some other magic I should be doing to get CK to read from an alternative folder structure that won't clobber Starfield when I go to play/test?
Feel free to point me at a video or docs, I've been reading posts and watching videos, but I'm not clear.
Heyo, so is the issue that the material editor is showing a black cube when you try to open it? Also, how did you extract your files?
Did you put the material files into Data or Data/Materials
Sorry I'm sleepy - I'm confusing what I extracted from contentresources.zip and the extracts from the ba2 archives. The material was showing a red black blue cube. I just now copied over all the Materials and Textures folders I extracted from the ba2 archives into the Data/ structure. Now it appears to be working and I was able to edit the materials and see the textures on the materials.
I was able to make edits, save a new esp, export an esm, and load it, and test it. I see my re-textured decoration in the game now. Yay!
Is it safe to have all the loose files in the working directory (Data/...) when running the game? Is it going to get slow or crashy?
Mainly I want to understand best practice for where to keep the loose files I am editing/playing with and then any supporting files.

Eventually got it all the correct folder structures under Data/, so matching what you see in the ba2 archives.
It’s a lot of work, but it’s worth it, and if you are ever stuck other modders are super nice and helpful, so never feel bad for asking for some help. I personally keep everything in a separate folder, until I go to make the material file and nif, but that’s cause my workflow is messy and I can keep my folders in the ck organized haha

Hmm, I actually don’t know, there probably is. But I tend to just make a folder in the ck for my mod and then I copy everything I need over when I have finalized it. Sorry I don’t have a better answer haha, I’m kinda new myself.
You can set a different path for the source scripts, but I don't remember there being an .ini for the material files. But there may be one for that too. But other stuff, like generated textures or meshes and compiled scripts most likely would still end up in the main directory.

oof sometimes the Chronomark bug is really getting out of hand for me.
Its a bug that happens because of the different aspect ratio of the menus and the game. Doesnt seem to happen to everyone though

I’m reaching out because I’ve run into an issue involving the Stroud Premium Edition mod and the M-Class Unlocked v2 mod.
Whenever I install the M-Class reactor from the SPE mod, I’m unable to pilot my ship—even though I have Piloting at level 4. Is there something I might’ve missed or overlooked ?
Any help would be appreciated !

Me too, believe me. But there are some situations that, at least for me, are just too much. For example, the concept of retrieving UC firmwares from ships is amazing — but for some reason, Kaos decided to put critters inside those ships. And not the small ones like shiproaches, maggots, or cataxi. He added medium-sized flying critters instead. So here you are, inside a ship with narrow corridors, trying to fight flying aliens whose wings clip through the walls.
The same odd situations apply to missions where you need to retrieve scans from caves. Every now and then, you’ll encounter gigantic aliens that simply don’t fit inside the cave — the same happens in missions where you have to deal with infestations. Don’t get me wrong, it’s an amazing concept, but most of the time you’ll see large critters getting stuck and glitching around inside the structures. There’s also a strange behavior in which most space missions tend to place your ship way too close to planets, which ends up exaggerating the low-resolution textures.

Yes, sometimes it’s those beasts, and other times it’s giant Gliders.
I do like how it sends us different places. For some reason on this save, though, some of the ships never appear, so I just cancel the mission. Outside of that, I love the mod.
Does Ronin have similar features: i.e. ship battles, faction quests (such as the UC/FC)?
Ronin has much less quantity than DUO but it is much more optimised and no junk features like Keno described from DUO

As mentionned in the mod description, you need another mod to be able to use the M class modules. Unfortunately, the mod I recommand is not available on Creation.
If you want to enjoy the SPE modules with M class stats, simply use your usual M class modules (not SPE) and use the decorative versions of my modules (available in the 1x1 no flip modules list)
Additionaly, if you don't have any other M class mod, then simply use the C class modules, they already have better stats than the best vanilla modules

Not really, no. Latest update also added the First and Syndicate as target factions and the mission to defend civilians from xenos to the mission boards. I'm pretty sure that's just the random encounter mission you can come across when visiting random civilian POIs

Is there any particular mod that you utilize to show that? Sorry, my character wears a lot of long sleeve outfits being UC Navy and all.
There are Smart or manual modes - in Smart Equip mode, it would likely not be worn with those long-sleeved outfits. In manual mode you can equip it with anything, but it may not show through outfits.
The new custom notifications can be set to always show regardless of outfit, however, as they are played in first person. So no worries there.

I'm building a mod around skill badges. In the games assets I found there are skill badges for "Detoxification" which looks like it was cut content, or at least I can't see it in vanilla

I took a look at it in xEdit, and it seems the core functions modify a handful of civilian NPCs characteristics.
I noticed the Leveled NPC section adds The First and Syndicate NPCs for possible boss opponents.
I did like the addition of more civilian outposts visible from space, and the possibility that there are hostages to rescue in a POI.
I also liked that there were gameplay settings that toggled the Desolation setting.
However, I question whether changes like this are worth 500 credits.
I plan to keep testing this Creation to see how it influences gameplay."

Does anyone know how I can generate distant LOD for a worldspace? I edited an existing worldspace (Dr001world).
Found a lod generation guide online that uses cmd command -MockWorldSpaceLOD. Tried following it but it generates LOD for every object present. Not only for the ones in the LOD marked layer.

You're doing nothing wrong, LOD generation is just being stubborn. Unfortunately I don't know a fix for when it decides to give it to all objects. Sometimes setting all other layers to no LOD (the x) does it, but not always

Are cosmetic ship habs a vanilla feature or do I have a mod that adds these categories? And if they are vanilla, is there a mod to hide them?
No complaints — it’s actually kind of fun to visit some POIs and find regular NPCs there. On the other hand, it’s really nice to go to Science or Industrial Outposts (locations that normally have friendly NPCs in vanilla) and discover that, with this mod, you might encounter Pirates, Spacers, and other enemies instead. Every place now is fair game to find enemies. From Pipeline Terminus to Storage Depots.

Has anyone figured out a fix for Zone's Cryomancers mod regarding Thrax? He seems unresponsive in my game regarding talking to him. Cant Recruit him and I am assuming he is supposed to be spawned inside his cage at the farm and not outside of it. So needless to say, cant recruit him at all.

I’m pairing this with tonight’s Starfield session.
Anyone inclined to make a mod that fixes the Nova Cockpit animations clipping after you edit a ship? There was one on Nexus, but it was quarantined long ago. I would, but don't have a PC capable of running CK anymore. 🙁
Looks like it was just removing the right-hand animation marker so that it forces the more agile left-hand one to avoid clipping into the side of the cockpit (which is the default animation used by all prebuilt ships before you edit them in any way)

Anyone else played tiny reasons to explore space? I've noticed everything is made using one sided geometry. Like if you go behind a wall, it's see through on the other side, it's like you're able to escape the cell and look at it from the outside
It has triggers to prevent that. Of course I'm sure there will be places where I missed that because there's randomization and I can't account for every case

Very nice! Is there a way to snap things together? It's hard to get micro/fine movement with mouse and keyboard. Plus there can be axis fighting when objects overlap.

You'll be able to go there whenever, it's basically just a location that can be travelled to by scanning the planet.
Didn't want to over complicate it since I know a fair few people will be mainly in it for the gear and a bit of combat but there will also be enough lore and stuff to look deeper into for people who want to have more of a story experience.

You should be able to just update and not re-install. You might need to leave the cell, and come back for the changes to show up.
Chronomark+! It will add visible Chronomarks to the player and Constellation and have immersive notifications for various events.

What if you constantly wear a spacesuit, particularly a mod added one, would you get benefits or so?
Important notifications will still trigger, but in the release version only the Constellation and Mark 1 suits will have any specific Chronomark functionality.

The issue I ran into is that they can either be wall-mounted or functional. I need to circle back to peak performance this week for an update at any rate and I will include something workable for showers at that point in time. They just may need to be standalone for the time being (i.e. you have to place them on the ground).

Not with player animations, but I have sound and fx for the water spray that I can trigger on an activator.
oh what FX you're using? I've only got them with sound + a spell getting cast on the player for an XP bonus
I'll check, I believe it was a gas FX. This is for cleanliness in Peak Performance - I can make a scripted integration for that so other showers can reference it. I'll DM you once I have it all set up (been months since I looked at it and had to scrap it for release because of the wall-mounted packin issue)

Uh, no, I'm just referring to the internal name in the CK editor of a specific special effect the game can use. Nothing to do with actual objects in the game as you would play it.

There is literally nothing underwater, not even underwater camera effects
You can still drown though IIRC (with that underwater mod/setting) and with no UI warning because that wasn't implemented for Starfield.

There is a small mod about fish / yelly fisch in new atlantis "aquarium". seeing only a few meters before meeting fish, would make under water mysterious and interessting. even if just some fish and maybe crashed ships / loot can be found.

Unpopular opinion, but I liked NV over FO3. There was something about it. I think it was the atmosphere and the vibe behind it. It was definitely a dark FO game. Moreso than FO4

I think a lot of fans don't realize that bethesda is renowned in the industry for not doing crunch and having reasonable working hours, its why they keep staff for so long. A large portion of the staff from oblivion are still there today. So with that putting out new content takes a good bit longer than other companies

I will. I’ve been looking for a mod that has a portable bed.
That way I don’t have to keep running to my ship or sleep in stranger’s beds.
Exactly, Being able to sleep in front of the vendor instead of making bed runs saves so much time. I think nearly everything in the mod focuses on saving time.
In my case, I would often run around hunting some monsters that provide excellent xp and forget about the time or realize how far away I got from the ship and was often over encumbered and stuck in the darkness. The portable bed /sleeping bag makes that issue resolved just sleep and once again you can see.
The Bright Side serves as a glowstick. I would often find myself lost in the CryoLab where it's all frozen over. It was probably one of the worst built science labs for navigating. Drop it and it'll stay in place with an arrow marked on the glowstick in the direction you was looking when you dropped it. It floats at shoulder height too so it's easy to see the direction you was going, and easy to see from a lower level like stairs or caves.
The Bright Side lasts for 2 hours then destroys itself to save computer resources. They are 1 time use but are very cheap and lightweight to reflect that.

Then theres the Gunpick. It requires security level 1, and unlocks the novice skeleton key. You need the equivalent rank of security as the containers to use the skeleton key. ie advanced key requires security rank 2 and so on. The key's are found in "ammo" as they are essentially bullets to unlock containers.
I was surprised that on average it takes someone over a minute to unlock a master lock. do that 60x and you've saved an hour of your life and increased your play time.
I hate the Cryo Lab dungeon. Lol

I am using this mod (skills of the scoundrel) that lets you open doors with explosives. I felt like it would look so dope if I placed a payload on the door and the boom, door unlocked.
But that did not work at all 😭
I thought Skills of the Scoundrel only works on containers? I haven't gotten it to work on any doors, including lockers, fridges, and mannequin cases
Check the gameplay settings. Some of the features only work on containers, these are marked as such in the settings. Opening a lock with explosives and iirc also melee does work for all locks.

In CK I'm trying to remove an item from the players inventory, with (Game.GetPlayer().RemoveItem(HeistBombItem, 1) but even though i added a MiscObj const property, the compiler says that the item is undefined

There were a few mods that did that for Skyrim, it's logistically pretty simple to do with vanilla Papyrus (with the caveat that after talking to them once, it updates. So it's not like other game dialogue systems where character names in UI are revealed when they tell you their names.)

I am I want to make some simple POI mods next and maybe a simple quest mod.
Eventually would like to experiment with more survival mechanics or add mods to support existing survival mods.
An idea high on my list is to add some more crashed ship/ship debris POIs to find.

Has anyone encountered this glitch before? Heavily modded but none of the mods I downloaded are supposed to touch this suit. And I just disabled all of my mods and started a fresh character and the problem was still there. Been trying to find a fix for this for days. Verified files. Rebuilt shaders. Nothing helps and its annoying.
And this is literally the only suit that I've found so far that has this issue.
I'd really REALLY like to avoid the nuclear option (which is deleting my entire Starfield folder, all mods, and uninstalling the game so that I can then re-add everything one-by-one). So any help would be very much appreciated.
That's not a model problem, he's wearing two suits... Without looking at your load order in xEdit, I couldn't tell you what gives Barrett his suit, so I couldn't tell you why it's doing that...
If there's something that makes the Actors wear their spacesuits and their civilian clothes (like the non-naked power armor mod for FO4), that might be doing it, but you said you disabled everything... so... shrug... got me stumped...
Might want to check out your actual Starfield\Data\models folder, see if there's anything pointed at Barrett's suit/clothes
Verifying just checks the file integrity of main game files, it ignores loose files and mods...
Well its not just Barret. Its me too. The first image is my player character.
And thats the constellation suit that Sarah gives you in the main quest. So is the suit thats the problem. So I would go into the Data folder and just search for that suit's ID or something?
I've never broken open the Starfield files, but I know Bethesda. If the Data\Meshes folder has a folder for the suit, you could try deleting it, but like I said, I don't think that's a model problem. It looks like the game is rendering the suit and your clothes at the same time.
I did just go back in on my current character and try to equip the spacesuit with my clothing unequipped and same result :/ This is a weird one for sure. But off to the Data folder it is then!

Yeah so I'm guessing there was on mesh for that there and one mesh somewhere else and maybe it was trying to load both at the same time?
Sounds like it. Loose files always override files in archives, but the override is problematic sometimes.
Well hello, is LOOT good for sorting starfield mods in general ?

It's good to put them in the correct order for what needs to load after X mod because of dependencies, but that's about it. The Masterlist has almost no mods, so besides sorting correctly for dependencies it doesn't do much for SF.
but it helps to have that in the correct order already
Then again I've spend over 2.2k hours in the same universe and with over 100 mods so I should probbo just go to NG+11

@hushed umbra Looks like an issue with the suits morphs, they are files that tell the game how clothes stretch or move to fit various body shapes.
Check if you have anything in meshes/morphs

With the way Bethesda apparently doesn't care about a creations quality, we will have weeks like this. Some bad stuff, some uninteresting stuff. But I am sure some people will like the creations that have been released this drop. Can't always be something for everyone.
Shovelware can occasionally make money, so I can see what's happening. I do think, however, that a AAA company shouldn't be doing this

Really crash sites that fit the ship(s) you shot down, but I don't think that'll be easy to do at all with how the PCM system works

Ah yeah especially not by a junior modder like me 😄 In my dreams I'd like to also see larger crashed ship POIs where the inside is effectively a dungeon. Maybe you have to use your cutter to cut through old stuck doors, creatures have infested them, and or other looters are already there.
I think for now I will run through some POI tutorials and videos, and then try to make a single very simple crashed ship POI that is a little different from all the others I've seen.

Yes. Like a cryo tube. Or a ship carrying prisoners that crashed and there’s one survivor that could either be a corrections officer or a prisoner. If it’s the latter, you can either snitch on them to the UC or FC, or let them go.

I definitely saw that in a mod on creations can't remember which one. I do know that Grafs Habs has some habs where the mission boards are wall mounted terminals.

And yes, helmets and suits are sort of controlled separately. Of course the suit must be worn for the helmet to be shown but otherwise it's separated.

I like to keep my suit on 24/7 but like to toggle my helmet off in friendly locations like cities and my ship but put it on when in conflict zones

Well the landing pad is used to put the ship back, otherwise it remains in the edit location and you're stranded

yeah, but then depending on the position of the kiosk itself the ship may be placed inside structures and stuff, there's no real way one could prevent that from happening. Not to mention uneven terrain issues

the key issue really comes down to get a suitable landing marker somewhere

Kind of a bummer the outpost logic isn't as deep as fo4's was. Just wire the terminal to the same network as the pad and boom!

Didn't dawn on me yesterday, but pads have their own kw. We could probably just fill an alias in loaded area with whatever pad and use that in the decor-ship builder terminal's link. Just a thought
Or even fill with external to a base quests filled pad... or even just the base quest's alias itself.
Yeah but you end up with the same kinda issue - the ship ends up at the pad the builder is linked too, potential out of reach for the player

Does anyone here maybe have the fix for missing Earth POIs? I know Watchtower bugged out and deleted all the Earth POIs and someone made a quick fix in CK that sometimes worked - but it has since been removed from their forum
For watchtower that issue should be fixed for a while now
Very interesting, I am currently playing through the main campaign again with only like 2/3 or 1/2 of my mods enabled, and it feels like a lot of subtle issues I usually have are just not present.
Like for example it feels like the combat music triggers much more reliable. I wonder what mod could affect that negatively.

There's a mod I use that slightly overhauls the health bar and watch UIs
Health bar changes colour as you lose health and when you go scanner mode it gives you data on your inventory weight and stuff about the planet
It sucks so hard that xEdit for Starfield still hasn't full support for all features.
In FO4 I am basically like "what are conflicts?" because for relevant stuff I just run the complex sorter and it merges possible stuff.
