Houdini is certain planet stuff as far as I'm aware, terrain itself is a whole other thing again
What we can't do currently is paint a procgen mask over the terrain in CK
Is that for assets likes rocks, plants, etc? Or the ground as a whole like a depth map?
yup procgen is for procedural generation, like rocks etc and navmesh for those areas! So right, now we need to fill all the empty spaces left in an overlay ourselves as opposed to the game doing it like it does for vanilla locations.
That's pretty neat. I noticed in your screenshot of the wall that was built on one cell. Can you cycle between different cells like a list? Or can you just keep generating news one until you find one you like?
What you see in the screenshot are about 10 cells
So when you create an overlay, you get to decide how big it is. Like 6 by 6 cells for example.

How to retexture a dataslate
Open ck and navigate to "book" use the filter for "dataslate".
Copy one of them, delete the stuff you don't need, and give it your ID.
Navigate to the "Layered Material Swap" search for the dataslate_Screen_01_To_Dataslate_Black_Swap, then make a copy of that.
Use the material editor to copy the .mat file the Layere...

lol, it looked like you were still caught on something there by the corridor, strange!
A reason your crew can do that while in space is if they aren't able to find enough furniture with the CrewFurniture_Generic (or other CrewFurniture) keyword to use. They're supposed to sandbox if that happens and just pick something else, but as you can see they often don't, at least not right away. The larger your crew, the more obvious this will be.
If you place a few Crew Terminals from my outpost furniture addon on your bridge, they should use those while in space instead of blocking your walkway. You can set the number of added crew slots to none if you don't want more capacity, they'll still work as crew furniture.

Right now I’m on my pc. Xbox is at home. Unfortunately I’m not able to play the game due to some glitch where my game freezes up. Gotta delete all my mods and reinstall them plus delete some files and do the integrity check again. The last small update screwed my game up.
PC is Steam version. Problem is happening on both PCSteam and Xbox.
Hey there! You would just want to disable anything from Starvival related to the economy and load TSE after Starvival. Everything else should be fine.

StarUI is also an interface only mod, so it can be added or removed at any time with zero impact.

Starvival also does a lot of ship systems ( fuel, maintenance, crew morale and pay), those are also incorporated in Sapce Economy right?:)
I would disable its crew wages, yep. The others are up to you - I don't use Starvival so I am unsure how much maintenance overlaps. The fueling feature from TSE will work with any fuel mod.

First I’ve heard of it. It is always possible that The Dreamlands is causing it, but there are no systems in place that should be messing with companion inventories.
Besides, THESE ARTISTS know I appreciates the absolute HEAT they put out.
Considering its a pretty big issue that hasnt been reported, I am going to say it probably is not The Dreamlands causing it. However, if the issue persists, certaintly let me know.

Hey guys I am running into an issue one of you might know the answer too, I am trying to add more faces to the spacers and to keep file size down I am using already in game faces, my issue is that when I add a character with brown or black skin their face doesn’t keep the skin tone only their arms and hands so if I add vlad for example, he has a white face instead of his proper skin tone.
If narrowed the issue down to the duplication of the character, any duplicate character does not keep the proper skin tone

Anyone have experience with disabling proc-gen in the outskirts of a custom world space you’ve created (the red area if you press B in the render window). In the picture I’ve created a small base but I want the rocks on the mountainside to go away. Anyone know how to successfully do this?

I figured as much, sometimes the proc-gen does some pretty awesome stuff. I wasn’t expecting it to put me in a cove of a mountain but I really like the spot but those boulders kind of screw it up a bit in terms of immersion. I may shoot for another proc-gen spot that’s similar but not as dramatic. Thanks for the insight.

Yeah it goes really well! Still need to make sure that it makes sense to have a settlement there, so need to add a water source to the place and a farm or two outside.
I mean, think about it like this, megaton exists in FO3, there’s no REASON it should exist, but somehow IT DOES, you’re already thinking 20 steps ahead with having a water source and a REASON to live out there

That's not the problem, the larger issue is that Akila (planet) has large water bodies elsewhere. The fact Coe decided this ashta infested desert was the place is bonkers.

Paradiso is more it's a relatively peaceful planet that's outside of the UC and FC
Yeah but nothing in Akila looks like it would be used to collect water in any way
Savannas are also extremely ideal for growing food in and building on, especially considering the Ashta being a problem. You have big opened fields where you can easily see them vs the other biomes on Akila that are either coniferous forests or frozen plains. Especially considering placing your flag in a frigid location that can see bad winters isn't ideal for farming because one bad winter means no food which was a common problem throughout history, especially during colonialism where people would set up settlements in places that would see bad winters and promptly starve to death because of crops dying before they can be harvested
I will once again point out moisture collectors don't have to be big imposing things and can be small. As well as well water.
It's actually more common to be drinking well water as opposed to above ground water

i am working on a series of starfield-inspired 3d models (primarily for 3d printing) and i'd love to see how they would look in some of the game interiors. is it possible to extract [at least] ship modules' interiors with materials and lighting? so i can import them in blender and see my creations rendered in some tasty looking environment? 🥺

Sneak peak of The Stretch at Archimex Industries. A new corporation has set up shop and is building a complex for their miners to stay during their work cycle. They understand mining is draining so they want their employees to be comfortable and have a nice place to unwind. The Stretch will feature a diner (Jake's), convenience store, library, rec room, lounge, weight room, laundry services, several sleepcrate options, 1x1, 2x1, 3x1 units for purchase.
The Strech is located below the main Archimex Industries tower (coming later) that will feature a shooting range, gun store and workshop, spacesuit store and workshop, mineral/material store & workshop, clothing store, electronics store, robot store with exhibition arena, and probably more...
I am just getting started with the 'clutter' so it's a little bare now. Set dressing is my weakest part of the process, but I'm plugging away none the less. Just posting to keep me motivated, lol.

I actually like mods like this that add new POIs or expand on existing cities.
Since it's taking me so long, the upstairs shops will be a coming soon, but that allows me to set up some missions for the player to help them finishing building it by delivering some supplies. The player will get some peaks of the unfinished area as well in certain spot.
The location of this one is on Gagarin and will add a tower nestled into the landscape just off the landing pad. There will also be one for sure, but maybe two other entry points around Gagarin into the complex. The inspiration is taken from all around the universe to make the miners coming in from other systems feel a little more at home.
Since it’s on Gagarin, will it conflict with Gagarin New Dawn, since it’s changing the landscape?

Thanks. Yeah, I will keep plugging away. I didn't add a ton to the exterior, mainly just an entry point and tried to make it look like it made sense in the city. The underground portion could really be anywhere, and the upper area is all enclosed too so maybe moving it would give me an opportunity to open it up a bit. Might inspire me to make a completely new settlement location. But I am going to try and finish the housing area I am calling "The Stretch" then worry about all that later.
It might not, I’ve had a few mods that edit the same space and don’t conflict. If you’re able to do it without editing the vanilla navmesh especially you might be able to reduce the chance of conflicts that way

Gagarin is low key under utilized which I one of the reasons I picked it. It started as a small shop to give people more options for purchasing supplies early in the game to a huge complex that I'll probably never finish because I keep changing it.
Nice. It gave me idea for a mining operation poi on New Jemison. I think the main cities would benefit from getting a Skyrim treatment. Basically have a large map section of the world with some purpose with quests, locations, drivable areas, etc... Give the classic RPG feel and organic exploration.
Yes, that would be great. I might end up moving mine somewhere else since I just found out someone did an expansion of Gagarin that would interfere with mine, but I want to stay in the lower class systems to make it accessible from the start. It might make it better anyway having a unique POI settlement. There aren't near enough in the game. And with the game loosely revolving around mining, more mining settlements would be great. I have so many ideas swiming in my head, just not enough time.
What would I give if Bethesda or a really talented modder would rework the water in this game to not suck that much.

Good old planar reflections. They are heavy on performance thus all (most) mirrors in RDR2 are indoors where their hit on performance wouldn’t be noticeable

I found that out when I was building my weight room. I put 'mirrors' on the wall but they are just kind of a distorted chrome affect.

Maybe a little light, it was more of a blob of light. It's not the end of the world, I just found that kind of amusing.
There's a nexus mod that makes mirrors reflect the world. Of course your character is still a vampire though

There are 11,296 mods alone on Nexus, and a large amount on Creations. If you installed it via Nexus you can login and look in the Download History for that mod. Creations might retain it in your collection, you just need to find it. If you never installed it, I am unsure which of the many mods is the one you are looking for.
What is the purpose behind having so many shops being a stand alone cell you are teleported to. Is if for convenience of developing, or to improve performance, or a combination of the two? As I am working on my location, I realized I might have a lot of vendors and was just wondering if I am inviting performance issues, or does it really matter much? Has anyone published a best practices guide?

Still a shame that schedules got scrapped, could have been like in Diamond city where there were two shop keepers for day and night shifts
I was actually going to do this with my NPCs, at least in a few spot. Mainly the shooting range, I didn't want the same 3 people there all the time so I was going to rotate then in and out. So does scrapped mean it doesn't work, or they just didn't do it and the mechanics are still there. I just assumed I would do that with the packages.
NPC schedules are basically AI packages set for different times during a day/week
This still fully works in SF and a few NPCs still have them (like constellation members going to sleep during night)
but for the most part it just wasn't used like it was in previous games
Such a shame that named NPCs just stay in the one spot for the entire playthrough

They use local time
All planets have 24 hours local but UT time differs
So depending on your planet.. that 8 hour work shift gonna be like 20 UT hours for the poor NPC

Has anyone downloaded the Akila Sector 1 mod?
Hey guys sorry to bother you again with this question but I cannnot seem to figure out how to get face customization through the CK to show up on xbox. I'll walk through the process I used and hopefully someone can tell where I messed up. I start by duplicating an ingame npc, in this case a spacer, I then add them to the spacerfaceandgender spawnlist as thats where I intend to add them, from there I make my customizations to the new character, I then click Bake FCT & Bake Chargen Geometry, from here I then use ctrl F4 to export character gen data. Then I create my ba2 files, for both the textures and nifs that were created. Based on file size of the mod when downloaded from xbox I know that these assets are making their way into the game. The issue I am having is that anything to do with skin tone dirt facepaint and tattoes do not get properly added to the character, the face changes hair and jewlery change as intended just not their skin tone or facepaint/dirt.
What's your pre-set model for your character?
did you run the texture files through AssetWatcher? I don't think CK outputs the correct format for Xbox for these as it wouldn't let me pack them via CK - saying invalid platform
I have archived them for xbox, with the archive2 tool, I have made texture mods before and those loaded on xbox when I did it that way

also not sure you need to do the F4 step - I've never done that and my NPCs show up just fine

No, Archive2 is just fine - but AssetWatcher does the conversion stuff.
Also another thing that may could be the issue is the name and path of your folder. Is it named after you mod and ends with .esm?
I have tried with esp and with esm while testing, neither worked
But I havent used asset watcher so I will try that.
Definitely needs to end as .esm to work - but if that's the case the folder isn't the issue

I mean if you're testing on Xbox it should always be an .esm anyways
But there's also a bug where CK sometimes uploads the .esp instead of the .esm if you don't select the .esm during upload
So I recommend never doing the .esp to .esm converting during the upload, do it before and select the .esm during the upload.

right now the only thing I can think that's wrong would be the texture files actually needing converting to Xbox. Like all my custom NPCs are done exactly like you did, minus pressing F4 - made all the changes, pressed the two buttons, converted the texture files for Xbox and added all the files into the archives.

I worked a job once, where regular schedule was 4-12 and 2-8 hour days, Plus had to work over on some days, up to 16 hours. Was 2 Large department stores remodel and I was doing electrical. We Had to have certain things done every day. Job lasted 9 months.
I'm having trouble getting the Creation Kit to launch after installation. Is this the right place to ask questions about that? I've tried a solution I found on r/starfield, but it didn't work.
try to start the creation kit from starfields main game folder
if that doesnt work try running it as an administrator
I'm running Starfield on PC/Xbox Gamepass. Using a solution from r/starfield, I installed the Kit through Steam, then moved all the Creation Kit files to the Starfield/Content folder for the GP installation. It's supposed to work after that by launching using creationkit.exe, but when I do that, I get the below message. There was no such file in the original installation folder, but there are a couple of copies in other Steam game installation folders.
If that's the only thing that you're missing, try pulling it from another Steam game. Halo MCC's steam_api64.dll is exactly the same as SF's.
In Starfield\Tools\SetupUtilities you should have a batch file called ExportEditorDirToTarget.bat. This is what you're supposed to use to move the Creation Kit into your game pass installation. In the dependencies folder inside that, you'll see the two .dll files you're missing. You can just copy those over by hand.
Why Bethesda doesn't tell people (other than VCs) that this batch file is included with the CK is anyone's guess...

I made the spacer's and crimson fleet outfitted mods and courtesy of downfallnemesis I now know how to make faces to deal with the repeat on the fleet and spacers. My question for everyone here is should I make it a standalone mod which adds new faces or should I include it in my spacer and crimson fleet outfitted mod? If you think it should be standalone react with a 👍 and if you think it should be included use 👎 .

Also, the standalone chronomark added by your chronomark and eypatch mod has some clipping issues with a couple of animations where the wristband clips into the skin.

I just recently explored outside of the main complex and it has a crazy amount of activity behind everything, that you don't see from the inside. I've mainly only gone inside and didn't explore much around it.
Yeah, most of them feel pretty tiny. Where are all the people coming from, and where do they live? Plus the only access is only from the spaceports, and I don't see ships flying in and out to transport people.
Hey thanks for the the feedback, no promises on the chronomark but I’ll take a look at it and see if I can fix that. Sadly my mod won’t work with Chosti’s I couldn’t levelled list inject to the pirates or spacers as they don’t have an outfit assigned in the base so both chost’s mod and mine do the same thing and as such it’s sadly one or the other
Both mods create a new levelled list so I don’t know how they could be made to work together

Good news though, my newest mod Enemy Face Variety https://creations.bethesda.net/en/starfield/details/d8f7606a-c508-40be-90bd-ba00201c3fbf/Enemy_Face_Variety__Xbox_ Can fix an issue both my mod and and Chosti's has which is that in the base game the enemies only have a little over a dozen faces which isnt a problem when they wear helmets, but after removing the helmets it becomes. an issue. This mod fixes it and will work no matter which crimson fleet or spacer outfit mod you have.
Ugh I hate that my brain is like a giant hole. I learn how to do something (in the CK) and then after a while I want to repeat it and realise I forgot half of it again 😄

I hope someone can figure out a more dynamic way for levelled lists. There are a couple of creations now that I dont use because they are full replacements. Zones spacer overhaul for example. And there is another spacer overhaul. But they are always all or nothing.

@mystic fox I’ve always wanted to ask—would it be possible to use this fix you so amazingly crafted to add more variety to the regular NPCs (not the crowd ones)? I mean the NPCs that roam in places like Paradiso, Hopetown, and so on. These areas often have near-identical clones standing right next to each other.

Yes and no, I originally planned on doing that but its very confusing in the Creation kit, in many instances the NPC's do not draw from a levelled list and are given faces directly, it would require a massive file size to change this as It would be about 12mb per person I change, The settler, miner, and security levelled lists are all massive so the issue isnt that bgs didnt put enough characters in game
I am always a bit sceptical about crowd NPCs. At this point, i hardly use anything to change them because they seem to be special NPCs and every mod I tested so far with them came with drawbacks (performance) and issues (like missing heads)
Hope town is kinda done differently in the CK and would be pretty time consuming to change. The characters arent randomized which is where the problem comes from
Yep. What I am doing is disabling the clones inside the game.
Just take a look at Larann mod how massive it is and how much stuff it requires you to do, crowd changes are no fun

I made the face mod to fix an issue my mod caused, as such I don't really have any intentions to make more NPC change mods at least in the near future

I honestly think it is optimization, I added under 30 faces and my mod is almost 100mb
(I wished they would have better ways to optimise tbh, but it is what it is)
Like I am currently thinking if I even should remove the fleet expansion mod to see if that is the cause of some of my performance issues.
It feels like Bethesda, even though they were like "this should be the most moddable game ever" did in fact, not make it the most moddable game ever.

I had an issue where game files where changed by a mod even after I had deleted it, it was fixed by deleting and reinstalling the game. (It was very different to your issue though, it had to do with ragdoll getting messed up)
I reinstalled the game, I deleted the inis, I checked the ini values, I packed all my textures in archives, I have very few loose files left at all now, I even switched the game from one SSD to another.
The problem is, this is not an issue that happens all the time, but it happens now and then. So I cannot even go and try the "disable mods" option and see if it works or not.

I wonder if it could be an issue of the fleet extension mod. Maybe the ship I am using is built from too many parts? I honestly dont know if the problem is happening with a smaller ship or with the ship not nearby, I would need to test that. But also, even though I have seen some people complain about performance issues with ship mods, I have not seen someone complain about something like this.

Had a curious thought, weapons are currently forced to use vanilla animations and their designs are restrained around that right? I've seen rifles, shotguns, pistols, melee mayhem, even cryomancers and fight pit has awesome weapons but I haven't seen melee weapons use the unarmed animation ~ in the sense that you equip a weapon, but it's for "unarmed" attacks like boxing tape, knuckle dusters, spiked gauntlets, I haven't seen something like that or missed it entirely

I don't know too much, even with what I've watched in terms of modding it looks like rigging and models are prone to clipping because of the wrist movement

Well at one time they did roll them over. Some people were taking off for 100 days. or more. It was crazy. So they nixed that. No roll over now. For productivity on the company - well - it worked better ending the roll overs in our case.
My company was combined, sick days or off days. mine was 12 days a year. If something like a major surgery was being done - there was a different procedure.

For which? This upcoming mod doesn't touch the Ranger directly. They have a flushed out clothing line and the Ranger suit does actually have a Ranger badge, it's just super small.

This doesn't really focus on the Rangers as it is meant to act as set dressing, RP and immersion for the Freestar Collective as a whole. I can def go back later and add in some Ranger stuff, it's just that the interaction level is low and they already carry unique outfits.

This is pretty great tbh. I actually think I like this over an actual NCR Ranger. Because this retains the starfield vibe. Very kool.
Just force yourself to take detailed notes. It's tedious at first but once you get used to it and learn how to do it quickly and succinctly, it's very helpful.
Sometimes I'll forget how I did something in a previous mod, but I don't need to open an old ESP or even engage my brain - I can just mindlessly follow my own step by step instructions 😁
