Nah. Didn't work.
The only thing you can do is if you HAVE the item, drop it, open the console and click on it. That will give you the ID. So if you have them in a save or something you could retrieve the IDs.

I hope people make some of these with mods.
I'd like to see a mod that allows us to adjust the morality settings of follower NPCs. Or, I'd like to see one of the various sidequest NPCs who we've gotten to know along the way turned into a follower with questionable moral standards. Because as it is, I've yet to find one who doesn't complain every time I'm not on the straight a narrow in every regard. In a game that lets you explore the galaxy, and with all of the potential seedy people, it's quite the missed opportunity.
I might look into that. Haven't gone in-depth into modding in a while, so not even sure where to start. Probably wait on the CK.

I tried using the Happy Little trees and Ulvenwald forest mods for the winter spruce trees but the assets didn't load in game. The trees were just missing

I.... have no idea what's happening. I can't get any IDs right now. Not even for weapons which was definitely possible before. Like you all I am getting is FF blah blah. But no matter where I click (even not on the item).
Was there an update I missed? Did they lock this out somehow?
I've got nothing. Only thing I can think of is that my Widescreen modification or StarUI are blocking this somehow, but I don't see why they would. But those are the only change I made since it last worked for me. Do you have any modifications installed currently? @novel carbon

Sfse doesnāt work on xbox so no achievement enabler wonāt work and if ur talking abt the one which is most downloaded one, check out the first pinned post, the author made clear that mod has reached eol and will no longer support.

im not, i was just saying that cause the achievement enabler that doesnt require sfse is simple it likely wont break saves, but if there are issues that break things i would try fixing it
from what i can tell it patches memory where it marks the save as modded, so unless they change that it shouldn't break

I was looking with experimental version of xedit into imagespace records of starfield.esm, turns out it also has some auto-exposure settings.. so besides all the reshades and LUTS thats being posted on nexus, it might be that the esm file also adjust colors.

reading the post on nexus about it, it doesnt say youll lose your saves, it just says that if an update breaks it, itll make a save be marked as modded and you cant earn achievements from that save, id recommend if the game updates, backing up your saves just in case before launching, but since youre on steam id just recommend using the sfse one
Honestly, to me, losing achievements is not a big deal. I was planning on buying the game on steam in the future anyway and care little for achievements on xbox live.
But if I can keep getting achis on xbox live, that's nice.

The bigger worry for me personally is if some mods add functionality that requires SFSE. SkyUI needed SKSE if I recall correctly.. thankfully the starfield version doesn't.

i didnt, i just used the presets on the main page of bethini after selecting the game, the high preset and the recommended performance tweaks button
then only thing i had to change was which monitor the game was on cause i have 3

Hi guys, trying to fix performance in this game once and for all, apparently there has been no time spend on optimization.
What we need to do is Improve the game's rendering system to be more efficient.
Is it just me or does LOD not exist in this game? It's stupid.
What would also make sense is enhancing NPC AI routines to be more efficient. This can involve improving pathfinding algorithms, reducing the frequency of AI updates when NPCs are not in the player's vicinity.
Its basically non existent in day one starfield.
Also minimizing unnecessary data loading and unloading, as well as optimizing memory access patterns, can help.
Even though we have loading screens everywhere, the place you were before apparently is still loaded in which results in even worse performance.
Focusing on LOD seems to be the most plausible, as they are basically non existent and show the most drastic performance difference.
Does anyone here have documentation about LODs in the Creation Engine?
I see lots of LOD changing when walking around, I play on ultra with averaging 125fps

Certainly no comprehensive easy to use alternative. You could probably find a few mods spread out all over, but nexus is the best source.

It's kind of annoying to have to open the scanner just to see what items you can pick up, on top of not being able to open doors and some containers.

yeah, i just prefer not having to use the scanner all the time, having it up prevents you from opening doors, containers, credit sticks, and damn fumbling to try and get out so you can fight in combat xD
if someone can make a standalone version that would be awesome, scanner free would be the best imho.
Shoot you can even go as far as making a hotkey for a ping system that last like a minute of highlighted items and then goes away and is on a cooldown
Imagine having a helmet mod.. like a tactical visor.. that allows you to highlight enemies and items via a hotkey.

I didn't want to buy the game since my cpu is well below min req (i7-4770k) but pondering it now that it turns out that my rig can actually run the game pretty well after all at medium, with fsr and dynamic res off.

It's tied to tracking crafting recipes, research or outpost buildings isn't it? So you simply have to go and.. untrack those.
I tracked a few things so I know what to keep for research etc, but there is no way to untrack everything at once. You have to untrack each recipe etc individually.
Meaning, look in every crafting station, the research station, and outpost category.

I was trying to do a retexturing of some clothes, which have lower_body and upper_body textures. However for some reason, the parts I didnt touch turned out to be brighter than before. Are my settings wrong or is there some form of limitation in terms of contrast/brightnes for beth-games?

Before I open Pandora's box with mods, from what I gather so far is that I need to:
- Edit .ini file
2.Install Vortex to install mods
3.Check to make sure all files are on same drive
These might be in the wrong order, just as I remember them. So, do I need to edit the .ini with every mod, or just once in the beginning?
Mod to add carry weight - encumbered status to primary hud please. Its a pain to open inventory all the time and track if you're close to encumbered.

I can send some examples of my work, mostly story driven VR games with voice and 3D models with animation. What is step one on this process? Is there any unified storage solution mod around/being worked on/possible? Trying to build any outpost needs a lot of resources, which are too heavy to lug around on your person. A link to the storage locker in your room from anywhere in the world is almost an essential mod.

That looks like a good start, but is not essential, as the workbenches and storage in the basement are within steps of each other, so you can manually lug things around without running out of breath.
I would like that linked storage functionality available while off world when trading/crafting/building. Currently the only way to get stuff where you need is to pick it up from one of the lodge lockers, put it in the cargo, pick it up again, and carry it to where your need is. This becomes even more tedious, if everything you need to carry over puts you over your carry limit or shipās cargo capacity, and will need multiple long trips back and forth.

Hi, I'm mildly experienced with modding other Bethesda published titles, chiefly New Vegas however for the life of me I cannot get Starfield Mods to work. I have no idea why they won't work and it has been extremely frustrating to say the least. I have tried both Vortex as well as manual instillations, I have tried both my own StarfieldCustom ini-s as well as ones I downloaded from others with more know-how. I have tried installing in every conceivable configuration and I cannot get them to work. They are very simple texture replacers. I came here to see if anyone has had a similar experience or could give me some advice or share a nugget of wisdom. I would be extremely grateful for your help. Thank you.

Starfield Mod Suggestion: I would really enjoy an F4 Automatron type mod. Not only would this add a nice crafting element into the game (robots, I mean come on who wouldn't want to craft their own!) it would also make some of the more 'nerdy' builds (think pure scientist for example) more viable since a crafted robot 'bodyguard' would give the needed muscle to survive. No need to initially use any other 'frames' than are already in game, more interested in having options to hang on those frames -weapons, storage, sensors, etc.

I only installed 11 mods + BethINI and now suddenly the pretty planet/star main menu backdrop is gone, everything loads fine but it's just the Starfield logo on black.
I disabled my UI mods and reset BethINI to default, and it's not back. Idk where I went wrong. It's not a big deal, just bothers me that I can't figure out what caused it...
EDIT: Update: it's "Native HDR - SFSE", which also caused the below image's effects. Faulty installation on my part, I'm sure. Disabling it fixed the issue.
Actually I just got it working. Ite seems the problem was the data folder in the documents path. After deleting that and adding a few lines to my custom ini so the game wouldn't re configure it they started working. I have no idea why it was doing that but it is what it is. I'm on steam on windows 10. I have the premium version of the game from a Radeon GPU Download key. I wonder if the premium version of the game has some baggage with it that would cause that.

you know i would love to see more ship manufactures, imagine having like 20 different manufactures you can go and visit and view/buy/sell ships
Having these giant facilities built around the systems that can be explored and seeing parts be made or having just the framework of ships displayed.
Kind of like how star citizen has multiple different companies that design and build ships/parts, I guess same can go with weapons and the like.

Id love to see something like dedicated warehouse storages. Lile a warehouse instead of dozens of stacked storage crates, each with a dedicated inventory. Or perhaps just a large warehouse building with premade labelled storage crates inside with massive storages, allowing players to free up much more space at their outposts.

They affect the same files, you can safely get rid of Undelayed if you have a higher FPS UI, it's the same thing. I recommend doing manual installs since mod managers are not very smart
A good mod for eye temple quest. So annoying going back and forth all the time. Maybe have something buildable in your ship like the armillary or whatever its called. Idk nothing about mods just expressing that it would be a nice edition for the 240 temple grind

This is a strange take. And only really works with a small number of mods. It's dead easy to resolve conflicts with most of the mainstream managers as long as you know what you're looking at.
Assuming it affects the game exe then almost definitely.
If you look at the mod info dialog, it will tell you which files are conflicting. Whichever mod has the highest load priority (the bottom of the mod list) will be seen by the game.
It's not strange at all, it prevents all potential errors (mostly directory path errors next to load order and file mismatch)
Do you think a mod would be possible where a grav drive, shield part, and reactor are all in one? But they have worse stats than if they were separate?
Was thinking about those people who want to create small transports like the Kodiak from mass effect or the one from star trek.
I'd imagine you can put whatever stats you want on a given part, though it would likely need to be labeled as if it was a certain type since the game tries to put them in categories. But even that might be editable. But there's still a lot of work being done to decipher the new records and we don't even have an official creation kit.
Yea I figured it might be possible but there'd be quite a few problems, like categories as you mentioned but also the "requires reactor, shields, etc"
Not to mention how they'd fit it in the existing UI, each part uses up almost the entire square for information so whenever we get the StarUI for shipbuilding I imagine it would be a heavy requirement.
Everything should be solveable but as it is now you'd require an skse mod to remove the requirements

I have a request for a qol mod. After working on your ship. How about all the odds and ends DONT go directly into inventory and they stay where they are.
Sounds like something that should be patched, along with an option when selecting home ship if you want the cargo to transfer or not
I mean I get if you don't wanna lose things you placed yourself.. but constantly getting forks and all sorts of trash get put into cargo doesn't feel good.
I'm sure we will see a mod for it at some point, but it does seem like something that would get patched. I'm more worried about getting a mod or patch about ALL cargo transferring when selecting home ship. Hard to see a purpose in building multiple ships if they can't have different roles, cuz right now they all have to haul cargo.
Yeah, it's kind of dumb. Shame we can't assign crew to a secondary ship and send them on missions, for materials or whatnot.

People will have different opinions - I've used Vortex without issue so far, but each mod, in the description, will have installation instructions to follow.
As referenced 2 messages up, ModOrganizer 2.5 beta is out if you prefer to use that utility over Vortex or manually managing them.

I think the key is an update to nifskope. My understand is thats where you bring your edited texture and meshes togather for a mod.... starfield changed the way it worked in fallout/fallout76 i read and new version needs to be released and may be a new creation kit if we want more than armor/weapon replacers.
This breaks the immersion for 99% of starfield players but i like it

Hi everyone! I'm a software engineer but relatively new to Bethesda modding. I'm loving Starfield so far but there's a couple mods I'd like to make for the community to enjoy that fix some nitpicks I had. Here's the first two ideas I have to start with:
1 - Make the base fire rates of semi-auto guns faster. The current settings are painfully slow, especially when shooting pistols.
2 - Change most of the reflex sight reticles to be dots instead of big circle/dot or crosshair/dot reticles. It's way too busy when you're trying to shoot someone in the face past 40 meters.
Are these things doable before the official modding tools come out? I've already started using the Bethesda Archive Extractor and extracted all the textures so I can change the reticles, but I'm less sure about how to perform the changes to weapon fire rates. Any help/insight here would be appreciated.

I made a reddit post about that exact thing a bit before starfield came out, and got an incredible amount of people actually not caring or opening bashing on the ingame radio. Weird, but that's where the community has stood on radio for starfield to stay true to the lore of the game.

hello everyone, i'm new to bethesda games and heard that they at some point will bring mods to xbox. what type of mods were on fallout and skyrim that are on xbox? do they allow third party through the game? do i install through the game? is it only bethesda official mods or do they have like a community page like on steam
After some time you'll be able to search for and install mods from bethesda.net through an in-game menu. it's usually the same kind of things you can find on PC, though with some limits on file size and lack of script extender
since it's xbox and not playstation they can use original assets though so you'll have a nice library to try out once they actually follow through with it!

if there hasnt been already, would a mod be possible to set where ladders/doors get placed in ships, and possibly dedicated stairwell pieces too, preferably without sfse? if not now, would the creation kit allow it possibly? mainly cause I use gamepass so i cant use sfse at all and don't got the money for steam version atm

I wouldnt mind 2 mods off the top of my head, 1: instead of landing on the planet, ships would transistion into atmo and the player could choose a landing spot completing the animation. (probably not doable though). and 2: ground vehicles with a "bay to store it in".

Call of Duty? If the main story is done, why should you replay it? Need for Speed? If the main story is done, why should you replay it? Hell, EA SPORTS FC 24 why should one even buy that if he has already another FIFA title? It's completely the same with new stickers/players.
There are only few games which I consider completely replayable: Ones with extended mod support which can bring completely new aspects (basically all BGS games on which you find stuff like "Sim Settlements") or games in which you actually create your own vision of something (Cities Skylines/Sim City/Sims) or games featuring a highly dynamic system (Flight Simulators which feature dynamic weather conditions and the whole globe).
The golden hours of Starfield will start next year with the Creation Kit š

iirc they said they needed the toolbox from Behesda to make those, and that is like 6mos out. If you look above they talked about how to do it using gamepass and xbox if that is an option.
There is no ETA for PC mods, so there is for sure no for Xbox. Creation Kit might come next year which enables proper mods (beyond just texture replacements and configuration hacks), after that it will likely take another year for Xbox to get something

I know right now ship building mods are the goal for many. I would really like to see a mod that enhances the interconnectivity between ships in your fleet. As of now all we can do is hit home ship and everything gets transferred. Be really cool to move cargo and crew between ships and have them stay there regardless what ship you have selected for home ship. Of course crew that are story related would always follow.

In theory you could - but one would have to find the differences in the individual formats (like the use vortex colors on models, the general use of texture layers) and how things are scripted/animated
The latter is usually done using HEX editors
Also currently there are no official tools available for Starfield to compile stuff back together, so even if you know how a model is set up the issue is to compile it into a working package š„²

3070 ti aint that powerful to pull a 60fps consistently on a game like starfield

Should work with any card, but youāll need a 4000 series card to take advantage of DLSS 3.0ās frame generation.
Which is where the real fps boost comes from, so honestly Iād pass on it.
Might still provide a small boost in fps but it wonāt really be noticeable. At least it wasnāt for me running dlss 2.5
So I just went back to FSR2 lol
Dlss 2.5 is greater in terms of quality compared to 3.5 mainly because even though the model is improved and trained on much higher numbers the games have to implement it to show the real result. So ur best off with 2.5.1 if ur not having a 40xx series card.

Be really cool to move cargo and crew between ships and have them stay there regardless what ship you have selected for home ship. Of course crew that are story related would always follow.
Ok for everyone here. I keep getting confused from NexusMods on which to install via Vortex, and which to install manually.
If things have to be installed manually, why have the option to download via Vortex? Will it mess up being in both places?

I'm not 100% on this, but my understanding is mods are not fully supported in starfield yet. So some work through vortex and some need to be done manually. Most mod authors do a good job in the description of explaining the best way to install their mod.

(For steam) Move the Data folder from your documents to your game directory. in your custom.INI change the directory of your Photo mode photos and remove the menu stuff (So the game doesnāt re-create the folder you just moved. You will need to add these lines yourselves. Thereās a guide somewhere on nexus). Taadaa, Vortex will now install mods correctly. Worked for me.

Can someone make a mod to remove the generic POI from the game? Every time I land the same ***exact ***research tower is there. Every planet & moon I have landed on in 80+ hrs has had the same exact POI on them including botanists on planets and moons with no botany who need me to recue their friend from wildlife on a planet/moon with no wildlife.
The best thing would be a MOD that can make Starfield use only the dedicated VRAM of the GPU, and only use the shared VRAM if the dedicated VRAM of the GPU is full, since in many GPU models it only uses half, and it fills your RAM and it crashes, and it doesn't matter if you have 8 or 64GB of RAM....

Upon hearing users' complaints, I did some tests and they are right, on a 1050Ti and 1060 6GB, it works perfectly, but on RX580 8GB and ARC770 16GB, it only uses 4.1 GB of dedicated VRAM and the rest of the RAM. The biggest boost I got was enabling Resizable Bar on my system.
I'm running a 3900x / 3080 Ti system and went from getting around 50-60FPS at 2560x1080 in New Atlantis with FRS Bridge DLSS set to 70% resolution. Now I'm running Ultra preset with upscaling disabled completely and I'm getting 65-75FPS steadily with the game feeling a lot more responsive.

Need a little knowledge regarding LUTs. Is NaturaLUTs going to be compatible with any reshade? As in are the ones that are noted compatible just more tuned to NaturaLUTs' color palette?
Because I know some reshades advertise LUT alteration/removal so I want to make sure it doesn't clash.

There is a folder in /data/textures/weapons/reticles/ that has some of them, but not the EOTech style crosshair dot reticles that the AK, 2311, Equinox, and other weapons use.

I know right now ship building mods are the goal for many. I would really like to see a mod that enhances the interconnectivity between ships in your fleet. As of now all we can do is hit home ship and everything gets transferred. Hey guys, are there any mods to fix the texture resolution issue like this? The game here is on Ultra, and yet textures look like this.
I have attempted a few mods already:

None of these worked to fix the issue. Disabling upscaling, FSR entirely did not fix the issue either. Textures continue to be stubbornly low rez no matter what I do.

I wanted to post a suggest for Bethesda so they would see it but i don't know where to do it. I dought they would anyway so i will post it here so maybe a capible mod author will do it. I don't even know it it is possible. I think anything is possible if you wanna do it but one of my suggestions is inflatable habitats for camping anywhere. Like the Road Runners Acme contraptions he made to trick the Coyote in that cartoon. Just toss you handy habitat cube on the ground and WALA... a fully furnished inflated camping habitat.

i tend to mix match my own mod list, as collections are fine, but sometimes they add stuff i dont want, and its a hassle to deactivate those mods, so what i do i do look at the most endorsed collections, and what is in them and then just pick what i like , the only difference being looking at every individual mod page on how to best install them and read the instructions, where collections (well the good ones) are easy for people newer to modding and can just one click get a bunch of mods running.
So here are some future mods im hoping for: the guys of Sim Settlements from Fallout 4, making such a system for starfield with planetary settlements.
and the guys from Legend of the dragonborn from skyrim, making a space museum š

It turned out I put this mod's textures (https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/645) in the wrong folder. Once I installed them correctly, the game was basically forced to render reasonably downscaled textures and my game looks great and runs well.
Only issue is that every time I alt tab, the game does drop in fps significantly. But I can just avoid that by not alt tabbing

it just automatically sorts the mods but if you do need a mod to have a higher priority, you can just set priority relationships between mods

and fallout 3 is so old and barely supported so you pretty much either have to use FOMM (super old mod manager pre-dating NMM) or just manually mod it

right now the modding community seems to be divided between the gamepass version of the game and the steam version of the game, because apparently they require you to do different things
i don't think SFSE works for the gamepass version
.asi plugins are apparently similar to SFSE plugins but they will work on both the steam version and the gamepass version
i don't know which one will become more popular right now
i'm not sure if adding the plugins to the .ini is something that is only necessary for the gamepass edition or what
this whole divide between the steam and gamepass versions will probably stunt the growth of the modding community since gamepass games are significantly less moddable than steam games, since the gamepass ones are windows apps and the files are locked where even you, the system administrator, cannot access them for some wild reason.

Okay, it's fine in an older save, but I landed there, and then didn't do the mission, but left to go help Sarah with her personal Cassiopeia questline, and after doing that and then returning to Procyon III, it's bugged like this.

Made a bug report. I'm completely retracing my steps from my older save before completing Cassiopeia and so far Procyon III isn't bugged. I think some work I did in the ship builder is somehow what bugged it out, because that's the only thing I haven't done yet since replaying all of these parts. And last time in this portion, the planet was already bugged out. Glad I make a lot of manual saves..
Only lost about 2 hours worth of play time
The entire ship situation in this game seems to bug planets out sometimes. Certain series of events with ships seem to screw up world geometry.
ive had some space encounters with invisible enemies, i think there's just weird bugs where things wont load in properly
I often think these games should have come out later, and taken more time in the oven. But when you really think about it, games like Cyberpunk 2077 would never get to the point that it will be when 2.0 and Phantom Liberty releases without having been released to the public first, having been criticized, and having had thousands of people bug testing it for CDPR for the last couple of years. The same can be said for Bethesda games. Starfield is going to be a masterpiece in a couple of years, with patches, bugfixes and mods. I honestly can't wait to see what's possible. The bigger and more complex these games get, the more we have to accept that there's no possible way for all of this bug testing to be carried out in house. It takes thousands of people running the game across dozens of possible hardware and software configurations to truly test a game like this and get anywhere with it.

Metal Gear Solid 5 Phantom Pain was amazing, and the D-Walker robot would be a perfect companion/vehicle in Starfield. It doesn't move too fast so it wouldn't put too much of a load on the game.
I might try to look into seeing how difficult that functionality would be. We already had power suits in Fallout 4, so something like this isn't exactly beyond the engine.

I think in the future they will simply use AI to autocorrect bugs in code and such, or use AI to check for corrupt geometry, bad 3d stitching, snapping, clipping. basically AI as some kind of cleanup tool or finalizing process (post-process)
AI will most likely not be perfect at fixing issues however, and could possibly cause worse issues at times as well

Yeah, mods that can be used on the game pass version usually have instructions on how to install it for that on nexus, mods that require SFSE won't work but more basic asset replacement and such mods can work

So the answer to ur question is look for mods which are to be pasted in the root or documents folder, who knows it might do the trick? Try on. Also I guess only the sfse doesnāt work for gamepass but u already have an achievement enabler which works on gp version

Is anyone looking into making an improved cargo link mod that allows you to specify type and quantity of resources transported. IE Each cargo ship can carry X number of resources A,B,C per trip with requestl inks to storage containers instead of dumb output links basically more fine control of logistics

then you should realise that starfield actually relies quite a lot on texture streaming functionality and relies a lot on i/o. More than you might be accustomed to from other games, so thats why that mod changes things on that level. with SFSE however, some mods need to be in the gamefolder.. depends on what the description or install instructions says

I feel like I am in the minority when I say I have had no issues to speak of and am enjoying the game, even without the mods working, just wanted to clean up some of the visuals and inventory.
I have no issues with the game
Even when there's FPS drops I don't notice it
With FO4 if it drops below 60 FPS you can definitely notice the frame drops
i play in 4k, with fsr2, only lower shadow quality because that seems to be the biggest performance hit, even on a 4080
It gets leggy and buggy
But Starfield runs perfectly

but besides that, the game runs stable.. i only had a few quests that were bugged
No bugged missions yet, fell through ground once, but got out without reloading.
Starfield doesn't use anymore CPU than Fallout 4 does

i mean, if you cant return the game.. be patient, wait for a proper mod or official patch.. but being negative won't make things go any faster
im not excusing the poor optimisation the game has or the myriad of issues with the several design choices they made leading to poor performance. I do think you need to tamper you expectation running this game well on a steam deck that uses a sub 3000 class ryzen laptop gpu/cpu.
Did i expect bethesda to chose more into the direction of performance instead of 'quality'? Definitely and im not too happy about it. But you know you could have refunded it way earlier as the peformance problems hit you quite early in the game. Steam is actually quite willing to refund beyond the deadline of 2h if you present your case and they also tend to give a 1 freebie to bend the rules but id suggest to word it well.
Todd clearly mentioned the game is optimised its ur system that needs to be upgraded lolš and I know he means it to be.

But I do face this weird textures loading thing when exiting any storage crate or weapon crate from explore mode that u press and hold r and then back to game screen it loads the textures for a fraction of second
fo76 was ok regarding missions etc, but i think i would have more fun as a singleplayer game.. all technical issues aside
if you want a laugh and background podcast style thing i recommend patriciantv analysing interviews about starfield and the connection of the main studio and f76

but i do think this new engine which also has some ID-tech in it, once properly optimized in the future, it could be great.. we will see how things play out i guess

But Starfield is a new challenge
